After leaving scumbag A, I Found a Happy Ending with a Flirtatious Beauty - Chapter 85
Chen Guilan carried a cup of almond tea toward the master bedroom, pretending to casually pass by the guest room.
Lately, she had secretly received several transfers from Qin Mian, all of which went toward paying off her son’s gambling debts. But those bloodthirsty loan sharks claimed it was only the interest and gave her seven days to repay the principal otherwise, they would chop off more of her son’s fingers.
If tonight’s plan succeeded, Qin Mian would give her a large sum of money, enough to settle the debt.
Chen Guilan slowly approached Taohua’s room, silently calculating that by now, Taohua should have already drunk the peanut juice and would soon show an allergic reaction.
Sure enough, before she even reached the door, she heard a piercing scream.
“Taohua, what’s wrong? Don’t scare me.”
It was Chen Moli’s voice.
A gleeful expression flashed across Chen Guilan’s face things were progressing smoothly. All she needed to do was add fuel to the fire, and the situation would spiral out of control.
With a loud cry of “Taohua!” she rushed into the room, her face feigning terror. Seeing Taohua convulsing on the floor, she “accidentally” dropped the tray in her hands.
“Taohua, my child, what happened to you?” Chen Guilan threw herself onto Taohua, wailing dramatically. “My precious, who would want to harm you?”
Lu Zhiyuan smirked inwardly. Without even investigating, Chen Guilan was already shouting about “harm” truly a case of protesting too much.
She subtly turned her head, exchanging a meaningful glance with Shen Qiaoyi.
Shen Qiaoyi’s eyes flickered with intelligence before shifting into a panicked expression. ” I was playing Legos with Taohua. She said she was thirsty and wanted milk, so I gave her a bottle…”
Chen Guilan’s viper-like gaze swept over Shen Qiaoyi before locking onto the milk bottle in her hand. Suddenly, she lunged forward, snatched the bottle, and took several gulps, her eyes bulging grotesquely. “This has peanut juice in it you, why would you harm Taohua?”
“I don’t know this was just plain milk. How could there be peanut juice?”
Shen Qiaoyi pretended to be frantic, trying to grab the bottle back, but Chen Guilan dodged. “Don’t even think about destroying the evidence!”
Then, she shrieked at the top of her lungs, “Someone, help! Murder!”
The commotion drew several housekeepers, who hesitated at the doorway but couldn’t resist gossiping in hushed voices.
Meng Ziyan and Granny Luo arrived last, pushing through the crowd. When they saw little Taohua pale, struggling to breathe, with red rashes spreading across her neck and arms, their faces paled.
Though young, Taohua was an excellent actress her convulsions and eye-rolling had fooled not just Chen Guilan but even Meng Ziyan.
“Taohua…” Meng Ziyan looked from Taohua to Shen Qiaoyi’s flustered expression, sensing something amiss. “Yiyi, what, what happened?”
Before Shen Qiaoyi could answer, Chen Guilan threw herself at Meng Ziyan’s feet. “Madam, you must uphold justice for us! Miss Shen, she tried to kill Taohua!”
Shen Qiaoyi pinched her thigh hard, forcing tears to well up in her eyes. “Mommy, I didn’t know Taohua was allergic to peanuts and I don’t know how peanut juice got into the milk…”
“She knew…” Chen Moli caught Chen Guilan’s meaningful glance and immediately knelt before Meng Ziyan: “Taohua told Miss Shen herself that she’s allergic to peanuts. If you don’t believe me, ask Aunt Zhou, she heard it too that day…”
Aunt Zhou clearly wanted no part in this, silently retreating several steps back.
Chen Moli turned her gaze back, weeping pitifully: “I know Miss Shen has never liked me but what did Taohua ever do wrong? If you want to harm someone, come after me! Why target an eight-year-old child…”
Shen Qiaoyi “trembled” as she met Chen Moli’s accusatory stare, momentarily stunned by her masterful acting and nearly breaking character.
“I didn’t…”
While marveling at Chen Moli’s performance, Shen Qiaoyi couldn’t help feeling angry at Lu Zhiyuan again.
Damn Lu Zhiyuan! Why did she have to be so breathtakingly beautiful, attracting all these crazy butterflies?
And each one more formidable than the last.
If someone with such refined manipulative skills stayed by Lu Zhiyuan’s side, wouldn’t she die from jealousy?
Lu Zhiyuan’s gaze swept over, inexplicably receiving a glare from Shen Qiaoyi that left her momentarily blank, unsure where she’d offended her enchanting little fox again.
She slowly moved closer, wrapping Shen Qiaoyi in a protective embrace with unmistakable “doting wife” energy: “Alright, enough arguing. No one wanted this accident to happen. Right now, the priority is getting Taohua to the hospital.”
Meng Ziyan quickly agreed: “Yes, saving little Taohua comes first. Uncle Zhong, Uncle Zhong, prepare the car immediately.”
“Don’t move! Nobody moves!” Chen Guilan suddenly jumped up, pulling out her phone to start recording: “You think you can sweep this under the rug? Not a chance! Stay right there. I’ll let the public judge since when do the rich get to bully others and do as they please? Where does that leave us common folk?”
The domestic workers at the doorway exchanged uneasy glances, their murmurs growing louder.
A flicker of fear surfaced in Meng Ziyan’s eyes not because of Chen Guilan’s theatrics, but from dread that if this escalated, Shen Qiaoyi would face public condemnation, potentially tarnishing Lu Corporation by association. The board would never approve Lu Zhiyuan marrying an Omega with “scandalous baggage.”
She stepped forward, attempting to placate Chen Guilan: “Aunt Chen, there’s no need for concern. We’ve never considered shirking responsibility. Let’s first get Taohua to the hospital, any further delay could be dangerous. We’ll discuss compensation afterward, alright?”
Only after securing enough leverage did Chen Guilan finally step aside, allowing the driver to carry Taohua to the car for hospital transport.
The Meng residence stood silent in the dead of night when a shadowy figure clad entirely in black slipped stealthily into the bedroom.
Shen Qiaoyi had been waiting anxiously. Barefoot, she rushed over and threw herself into the newcomer’s arms, looking up eagerly: “Is everything handled? No complications?”
Lu Zhiyuan pulled down her hood, revealing her stunning features as her eyes curved into a smile: “What? Don’t trust my capabilities?”
“Of course I do.” Shen Qiaoyi clung to her slender waist, almond eyes glistening with playful pride as she sought praise: “So, how was my performance today?”
“That was textbook-level acting.” Lu Zhiyuan reached out and gently tapped the tip of her petite nose, then handed her a paper bag she’d been hiding behind her back. “Your reward.”
Shen Qiaoyi curiously opened the bag, her eyes instantly lighting up. “Wow! The roasted corn shoots I’ve been craving!”
She planted kiss after kiss on Lu Zhiyuan’s cheeks like raindrops. “Mmm, Yuanbao, you’re the best!”
Lu Zhiyuan wiped the saliva off her face helplessly. “You must have been sent by the heavens to torment me. Insisting on airplane food, and it had to be specifically from the S City to W City flight.”
“I had Assistant Xia fly to W City just to pack this meal for you. You should’ve seen the look she gave me like she’d seen a ghost.”
“I really…” Lu Zhiyuan sighed mid-sentence, resigning herself. “Why have your tastes become so peculiar lately?”
Shen Qiaoyi quietly sat on the chair eating her meal, mumbling with her mouth full, “I’ve had no appetite just wanted ** Airlines’ inflight food.”
Lu Zhiyuan massaged the back of her neck. “Alright, eat up and get some proper rest. You’ve got another scene to shoot tomorrow.”
Shen Qiaoyi took another bite and nodded obediently, then suddenly looked up, her long lashes fluttering. “Yuanbao, I want fish.”
Lu Zhiyuan responded softly, “Oh? What kind? I’ll buy it for you.”
Shen Qiaoyi blinked. “Those two koi fish that performed with the mermaids at the aquarium we visited last time.”
Lu Zhiyuan froze for several seconds before finally hearing her own resigned yet indulgent voice say, “…I’ll talk to the aquarium director.”
The next morning, Shen Qiaoyi woke up refreshed, examining herself in the vanity mirror. Not only were there no eye bags, but even dark circles were absent her skin glowed under the light with a natural rosy flush.
“Yuanbao, pass me the eyeshadow. I need to make myself look haggard…” Shen Qiaoyi muttered to the mirror. “No one who’s caused such a huge disaster would sleep so soundly, it’d look obviously fake.”
Lu Zhiyuan rested her hands on her shoulders, smiling with amusement. “Quite meticulous thinking. Good, you’re improving.”
Just then, the doorbell rang. Lu Zhiyuan went to answer it and found Meng Ziyan standing at the doorstep, looking utterly exhausted as if she hadn’t slept all night, faint dark circles under her eyes.
“Mom, did you need something?”
Meng Ziyan walked straight to Shen Qiaoyi and patted her shoulder reassuringly. “Yiyi, don’t worry. I’ve found the best neurologist, she’ll cure Taohua, and you’ll be fine too.”
“Mom…” Shen Qiaoyi gazed at Meng Ziyan’s weary face, guilt washing over her. “Actually, we—”
She barely got a few words out before Lu Zhiyuan tugged her sleeve. Her lips quivered. “We…”
Their conversation was interrupted by hurried footsteps in the hallway.
“A-Yan…” Granny Luo rushed over, a fine layer of sweat on her forehead. “They’re here, they’ve arrived.”
“So soon?” Meng Ziyan looked startled, her gaze lingering before turning back. “Aunt Luo, please prepare some tea and snacks first. I’ll be right down.”
Meng Ziyan hurried out but paused at the door, glancing back at them. “Yuanbao, you and Yiyi come down too. I want you to meet someone.”
Shen Qiaoyi and Lu Zhiyuan exchanged looks. Only after Meng Ziyan’s figure disappeared down the hallway did Shen Qiaoyi whisper with a gossipy expression, “Who does Mommy want us to meet?”
Lu Zhiyuan shrugged. “How would I know?”
Shen Qiaoyi nuzzled against her shoulder. “Yuanbao, are we being too awful? We even kept this from Mommy. Look how worried she is, she hasn’t slept all night. I feel terrible.”
Lu Zhiyuan hummed in agreement, closing her eyes briefly. “Mommy’s too kind-hearted. She can’t hide anything, which is why Qin Mian took advantage of her. Once this is over, let’s both apologize to her, okay?”
“Okay.” Shen Qiaoyi lightly hooked their fingers together. “Come on, let’s go meet this mysterious person.”
As they descended the steps, a black business car pulled through the double iron gates. The door opened, and a woman of striking elegance stepped out dressed simply in a light gray shirt and deep brown trench coat, her entire ensemble composed of clean, muted tones. Yet it was impossible to ignore her refined beauty.
Slowly removing her sunglasses, the woman revealed a face that made Shen Qiaoyi freeze in astonishment.
“Oh my god, it’s Madame Dusang. Yuanbao, pinch me quick, am I dreaming?” Shen Qiaoyi stared unblinkingly, eyes sparkling with admiration. “She’s even more stunning in person than on TV.”
Previously, she’d only seen Madame Dusang on television or in magazines. Up close, her grace was breathtaking youthful yet timeless, with bone-deep beauty. The quiet sophistication in her every movement, the effortless elegance her aura was simply peerless.
Shen Qiaoyi’s eyes practically glittered with stars, but Lu Zhiyuan’s expression darkened, her gaze turning icy. “Could you at least pretend to be remorseful? You’re supposed to be under scrutiny try acting a little afraid, would you?”
Leaning closer with a teasing smile, Shen Qiaoyi whispered, “What? Are you jealous? She’s just my idol. Besides, she only has eyes for your mom look how she hasn’t stopped staring at her since getting out of the car.”
Lu Zhiyuan’s face grew even stormier at this, her expression resembling a pouting child utterly adorable.
Madame Dusang approached Meng Ziyan with a soft smile. “I took the earliest flight to see how I could help.”
Meng Ziyan returned the smile, though her eyes reddened slightly. “Sangsang, I feel awful troubling your mother at her age but this involves my family. She’s the most authoritative neurologist, if anyone can save that child, it’s her. That way, my own child will be safe too.”
“Don’t worry, A’Yan.” Madame Dusang’s soothing voice carried quiet reassurance. “I briefed Mother on the situation. She’s confident she can handle it. She’ll arrive tonight.”
Meng Ziyan nodded, her gentle smile returning. “Sangsang, you last saw Yuanbao as a child, didn’t you? Now she’s practically ready to start her own family. Come, let me introduce you.”
Madame Dusan walked leisurely toward the steps, her demeanor graceful and her smile warm. She extended a friendly hand to Lu Zhiyuan, and when their eyes met, she softly said, “Hello, Yuanbao.”
Lu Zhiyuan returned the greeting with a cultured smile, reaching out to shake her hand briefly before withdrawing.
No sooner had their hands parted than the impatient voice of Grandma Luo cut through the air.
“Ah Yan, Ah Yan! Lu Yuexi is here, and Qin Mian too.”
A small wind chime hung under the eaves of the old house’s front courtyard, its white porcelain figure painted with a smiling face.
Lu Yuexi stood quietly beneath the eaves, her gaze lifting to the porcelain wind chime.
She still remembered this was a gift given to Zhiyuan when she had just learned to walk. After a fall left her wailing inconsolably, the Meng family’s butler had taken it from his own grandson to comfort her.
Memories unfolded before her eyes as if they had happened yesterday.
“Yuexi, why aren’t you going inside?” Qin Mian hurried over, draping a heavy wool coat familiarly over Lu Yuexi’s shoulders. “With the mess Shen Qiaoyi has caused, we must drive her away from Zhiyuan before things escalate. We can’t let her drag our Zhiyuan down.”
