After Infusing Love Poison to the Cold Sword Sovereign - Chapter 25.1
The candle flame flickered gently within its glass shade. Luo Qingyi blew out the light, cradled the sleeping Wu Ruo in her arms, and slowly made her way toward the bedroom.
Wu Ruo’s forehead rested against her shoulder but gradually slid downward with gravity, finally coming to rest against her chest, where it bumped lightly twice.
The wound from today’s bloodletting was irritated by the contact, throbbing faintly in protest. A sharp, stinging pain pulsed through her heart, yet Luo Qingyi paid it no mind.
This minor injury was nothing compared to the harm she had once inflicted on Wu Ruo.
When she had finally broken free from the grip of the nightmare’s control, she couldn’t bear.
As Luo Qingyi walked through the corridor, the woman in her arms stirred. Then, her lashes fluttered, and her eyes clear as autumn water slowly opened, revealing their distinct black-and-white depths.
Dim, indistinct lanterns lined the corridor, casting a quiet, muted glow over the interior. The faint light scattered softly across the woman’s face, lending her an air of serene tranquility.
“What a beautiful immortal sister,” Wu Ruo murmured, still half-asleep, her gaze fixed on Luo Qingyi’s face.
The next second, she jolted awake, snapping back to full awareness. She abruptly twisted out of Luo Qingyi’s hold, startling the latter so much that her arms trembled imperceptibly, forgetting even to catch her.
Thud!
Wu Ruo fell hard but not onto the ground. At the last moment, Luo Qingyi swiftly formed a hand seal, summoning a powerful surge of energy from below that cushioned Wu Ruo’s fall, preventing her from hitting the floor.
“Luo Qingyi?”
The woman lowered her gaze, watching Wu Ruo’s instinctive flinch, and replied softly, “Mn.”
“You scared me half to death,” Wu Ruo said, patting her chest, still shaken. “I thought I was sleepwalking and got picked up by a ghost. And your skin is so cold, I almost thought,”
“Mn. As long as you didn’t get hurt.”
Wu Ruo scratched her head awkwardly. Her reaction had indeed been rather rude she’d clearly upset her Dao companion. But it had been an involuntary, instinctive response, not intentional.
“Sorry about that, I didn’t mean to,” she said, suddenly recalling Luo Qingyi’s earlier departure. “Where did you go?”
“Xinglin Sect,” Luo Qingyi answered. “If you wish to cultivate, I sought a method from Sect Leader Chen to rebuild your Dao bones.”
As she spoke, she slowly raised her hand, revealing a swirling mist of energy in her palm. Though the mist appeared colorless, it seemed to shimmer faintly, illuminating the room as brightly as daylight the moment it appeared.
“If you merge with this, your Dao bones can be restored, and your spiritual roots reforged. However…”
Luo Qingyi’s gaze drifted away, lingering on a wall lantern for a long moment before she finally continued.
“There are some side effects. I don’t know if you’d be willing to accept them.”
Wu Ruo took the mist of immortal bone hesitantly. “Will merging hurt?”
“It’s not pain. The process is completely imperceptible. But if you merge with it, you may occasionally share sensations with me.”
The woman finished speaking and looked back at Wu Ruo, only to find, to her surprise, that the other woman didn’t seem bothered in the slightest.
“What’s the big deal? As long as merging with it doesn’t hurt, it’s fine.” Wu Ruo boldly grabbed the mist with one hand. “It’s just shared perception. Back when I was practicing snake taming, I even had to use drugs to sync with the snake, seeing the world through its eyes.”
“…And.” There’s one more thing.
Luo Qingyi softly opened her mouth, but the latter half of her words stuck in her throat, unable to come out for a long time.
She could only watch as Wu Ruo confidently cupped the mist, brimming with spiritual energy, in both hands, instinctively bringing it close to her spiritual core before sitting cross-legged on the cushion and slowly regulating her breath.
Wu Ruo didn’t ask her anything further or rather, once she entered the merging state, she became completely cut off from the outside world, unable to hear any sounds.
The woman smiled self-deprecatingly and murmured under her breath, knowing the other couldn’t hear her: “And one more thing, you’ll carry my aura with you, no matter where you go.”
She sat down in front of Wu Ruo, watching as the spiritual energy flowed around her body like a golden-scaled koi, swimming lazily across her skin.
After an indeterminate amount of time, the koi suddenly dispersed, and abundant spiritual energy spilled into every corner of the surroundings, glowing with a warm, extraordinary radiance.
Rain began to fall from the sky, and the clouds flickered amidst lightning and heavy downpour. A bolt of thunder, shocking and violent, pierced through the clouds and struck the peak of Snowfall Mountain with tremendous force!
BOOM!
The buildings remained unharmed. Luo Qingyi looked up at the heavenly lightning, swung her longsword, and shattered the merciless strike with a heavy blow!
She closed the doors and windows, stepped outside, and raised her sword high. The heavenly lightning seemed to recognize her divinely granted protection, striking with slightly less force, and fewer bolts landed on the edge of her blade.
BOOM! BOOM!
Rebuilding a Dao Bone was a much faster process compared to cultivating one from scratch. For someone like Wu Ruo, who already had a foundation, it was even easier. Spiritual energy gathered around her, swirling like a vortex before slowly flowing into her dantian and condensing into a solid mass.
The Golden Core had formed.
So, after rebuilding the Dao Bone, one could restore their previous cultivation level.
Luo Qingyi swung her sword once more, dispersing the lingering power of the heavenly tribulation. The flashes of lightning and rolls of thunder vanished from the gloomy sky, and nightfall returned.
The peak of Snowfall Mountain was high enough to see the bright, gleaming moon.
The woman took another glance at the sky, sheathed her sword, stored it back into her personal spatial storage, and walked back inside.
Having fully merged with the Dao Bone, Wu Ruo sat quietly for a while before opening her eyes again.
“Is this what cultivation feels like?”
She examined her hands, which seemed no different from before, but her mind was clear and sharp. The drowsiness from long hours hunched over a desk had completely vanished, and the stiffness in her neck and back was gone. It was as if she had just taken some potent tonic, leaving her body feeling entirely renewed.
“Am I only allowed to practice swordsmanship with you?” Wu Ruo asked, brimming with curiosity. She mimed a few sword gestures with two fingers, looking rather comical without an actual sword in hand.
“Yes, that’s right.”
