After I Transmigrated into the Novel, I made the Heroine Fall for Me - Chapter 33
Yun Yifan made no attempt to conceal his intentions; he openly declared his plan to lure Fang Qingying right in front of Gu Shengxiao.
It was also a perfect opportunity for the others to meet their future sister-in-law. After all, why should he be the only one constantly bossed around by their leader?
“No!” Fang Qingying was about to shake her head in refusal when a delicate hand suddenly rested on her shoulder, pulling her back.
“She’s not going,” Gu Shengxiao said coolly, half-embracing Fang Qingying. Her lashes lowered slightly, obscuring the emotions in her eyes.
The words Fang Qingying had wanted to say were now spoken by Gu Shengxiao.
Dazed, Fang Qingying turned to look at her. For some reason, she suddenly felt that Gu Shengxiao seemed a little sad.
Did she actually want her to go?
A pang of reluctance flickered in Fang Qingying’s eyes, but she still didn’t know what she would even do there. Maybe it was better not to go.
It was their gathering, she was just an outsider.
A sharp sting pricked at her chest, making her bite her lip unconsciously, as if the physical pain could somehow dull the ache in her heart.
“Huh? Then, sis, are you going?” Yun Yifan glanced hesitantly at Fang Qingying. His attempt to cling to her had failed, so he had no choice but to ask Gu Shengxiao again.
“Depends,” Gu Shengxiao replied, sighing as she took in his pitiful demeanor.
She had just returned to the country, and aside from matters concerning Fang Qingying, there were still many things requiring her attention. Only once everything settled down would she have time to spare.
Yun Yifan nodded. “Got it.”
Once their conversation ended, Director Liu finally spoke up leisurely.
“Shengxiao, Qingying, your scene is next,” he said, sneaking a glance at Yun Yifan’s expression.
The underlying message in his words was to ask if they were done talking if so, could they proceed with filming?
The rental fee for the set wasn’t cheap, and no matter how wealthy the investors were, they wouldn’t just throw money away on idle venue costs.
“Then I’ll take my leave,” Yun Yifan said, checking his wristwatch. He had been away for a while and would likely have to work overtime when he got back.
Gu Shengxiao gave a slight nod. “Mm, be careful on the road.”
After exchanging a few more words with Director Liu, Yun Yifan strode off toward the parking lot on his long legs.
Despite being a CEO, he still had to fetch his own car from the parking lot.
Fang Qingying and Gu Shengxiao headed to their respective dressing rooms. Compared to Gu Shengxiao’s luxurious private space, Fang Qingying’s was shared among three or four women.
Fang Qingying paused at the dressing room door, waiting until she heard someone inside call out, “Come in,” before turning the handle and stepping inside.
The modestly sized dressing room had a vanity table, a large sofa nearby, and a space for the actors to store their belongings.
There, Fang Qingying spotted Gao Tian.
Gao Tian had her hair tied in a simple ponytail and was dressed in loose, casual clothes, hugging a large backpack to her chest.
When she saw Fang Qingying approaching, her eyes instantly welled up with tears of relief.
“Ying-jie! I went to the apartment earlier but couldn’t find you. I thought you’d abandoned me! Then Xie-ge told me to wait for you here,” Gao Tian pouted, her voice trembling with emotion.
Her tone vividly conveyed the rollercoaster of emotions she had experienced. If not for the message she later received from Shen Lixie, Gao Tian was certain she would have been facing unemployment.
“I happened to be away from the apartment and forgot to tell you. Sorry about that!” Fang Qingying expressed her apology with a hint of guilt.
This statement immediately made Gao Tian question reality. The changes in Fang Qingying since her discharge from the hospital had been quite significant no, extremely significant.
The Fang Qingying she knew was arrogant and self-satisfied.
Her attitude toward Gao Tian couldn’t exactly be called bad, but it wasn’t good either. However, apologizing was something the old Fang Qingying would never have done.
“I’ll let you know in advance next time,” Fang Qingying said awkwardly, running her fingers through her hair. Even now, after transmigrating into this world, she still wasn’t quite used to being a celebrity.
Before transmigrating, she had preferred holing up in her apartment to paint, with almost no one seeking her out except for the occasional visit from her comic editor.
Her social life had always been poor since childhood. She had tried hard to make friends, but it was as if she were cursed nothing ever worked out.
Once, she had even nearly been tricked by a so-called friend, which made Fang Qingying even more reluctant to interact with others.
So, after transmigrating, when Gu Shengxiao showed her kindness, Fang Qingying couldn’t help but feel moved.
Gao Tian didn’t say anything more, just nodded repeatedly to show she understood.
The makeup artist in the dressing room was still working on someone else. Fang Qingying checked the time, it would be about three more hours before her turn, possibly longer if luck wasn’t on her side.
So, Fang Qingying decided to open the script and study it carefully. That way, she wouldn’t waste time and wouldn’t forget her lines.
The script in her hands wasn’t very thick, about the size of a small booklet. Aside from a few scenes with the male and female leads, there wasn’t much else.
By now, the original host had already filmed all her scenes with the male lead though the results were, well, less than inspiring.
The part she needed to focus on now was her scenes with the female lead, Gu Shengxiao.
The original host had earned the nickname “NG Queen” on set, and that was not a good title.
The reason for this nickname stemmed from a previous scene with the male lead, a rather ambiguous one.
The character Fang Qingying played had deliberately fallen onto the male lead and then seized the moment to confess her feelings. It was during this confession scene that she had NG’d countless times.
Unnoticed, time slipped away.
Knock, knock, knock.
The dressing room door was pounded loudly from the outside.
“What’s going on?” The makeup artist paused her work, sounding slightly annoyed.
“Fang Qingying’s scene is in half an hour. Hurry up and do her makeup!”
The person who stuck his head in was an unremarkable young man. He glanced at Fang Qingying, who was still bare-faced, frowned, and shouted at the makeup artist.
“Got it,” the makeup artist replied, looking at the person she was currently working on just finishing up and nodded at the young man.
“Should we go change into the costume first?” Gao Tian asked softly, watching as Fang Qingying put away the script.
Judging by the makeup artist’s tone, they could change and come back just in time for makeup.
“Sure. Which outfit is mine?” Fang Qingying tucked the script into her bag and looked questioningly at the rack of costumes lining the wall.
Today’s scene involved Gu Shengxiao’s character “accidentally” bumping into Fang Qingying’s character and the ensuing events.
So, Fang Qingying wasn’t entirely sure which outfit she was supposed to wear.
Of course, the more significant reason was that the original owner hadn’t left her any memories in this regard.
If not for 888’s assurance that there were no signs of the original owner still being alive, Fang Qingying would have suspected that the original owner had deliberately hidden her memories.
“That entire wall of clothes consists of your costumes for the show, and more than half of them are your personal outfits,” Gao Tian said, looking at Fang Qingying with confusion as she pointed at the clothes and explained.
In the film crew, actors could bring their own clothes for shooting. The original owner played the role of a wealthy heiress, so it was convenient to use the personal outfits from her wardrobe at home.
“So, which one am I supposed to wear?” Fang Qingying stared at the wall of clothes, feeling utterly overwhelmed.
“Of course, the outfit from the last shoot? Sister Ying, have you forgotten even this?”
As she spoke, Gao Tian walked over to the clothing rack and deftly pulled out the outfit Fang Qingying had worn during the previous shoot.
“I’m a little curious. Xiao Xiao and I never filmed a ‘hit-and-run’ scene, so why is there a video of us online?” Fang Qingying took the clothes from Gao Tian and asked quietly.
Gao Tian’s eyelashes fluttered slightly at the question, her eyes filled with disbelief.
“Sister Ying, that video didn’t show your faces,” Gao Tian replied helplessly.
What she meant was that the video posted online was just a scene filmed by stand-ins, since the two leads weren’t available at the time.
Hadn’t Fang Qingying already known this? Why did she still seem so clueless?
Gao Tian thought that if she hadn’t been with Fang Qingying the entire time during the accident, she might have suspected that Fang Qingying had been replaced by someone else.
But unfortunately, there was no possibility of a switch, so it could only be attributed to “amnesia.”
Fang Qingying nodded vaguely, holding the costume as she headed to the changing area.
Her character had just had a falling-out with the male lead, so she emerged from the dressing room wearing a white blazer and a tight black pencil skirt.
The makeup artist, who had been waiting nearby, glanced at the schedule Director Liu had given her.
“Ms. Fang, we might have to speed up the makeup process later. Please cooperate with me.”
Without waiting for Fang Qingying’s response, the makeup artist immediately began working on her.
After nearly half an hour of adjustments, she slightly reshaped Fang Qingying’s willow-leaf eyebrows to make her look less delicate.
The character she played was a somewhat dashing heiress, so Fang Qingying needed a slightly sharper makeup look.
By the time the assistant came to hurry her again, Fang Qingying was already made up, her eyes slightly narrowed, giving off an unexpectedly heroic aura.
“Ms. Fang, are you ready? Director Liu is calling for you to start filming,” the assistant called out.
“Ready, I’m coming out now,” Fang Qingying replied in a lowered voice, stepping out in a pair of ten-centimeter heels.
Her gaze first fell on the high heels she was wearing. She took a deep breath and carefully stood up.
Making a homebody wear ten-centimeter heels was no different from asking someone to walk on stilts.
And to stay true to the character, Fang Qingying had to wear stiletto heels.
At this moment, Fang Qingying suddenly realized that the original owner was a tough cookie.
She was starting to admire her.
Being able to wander around in such a pair of high heels now that’s absolutely savage!
Fang Qingying’s inner monologue was dramatic, yet not a trace of it showed on her face.
She attempted to walk, moving very slowly, like a baby taking its first steps.
Gao Tian: “???”
Is this seriously not a whole different person?
After an accident, she suddenly can’t wear high heels anymore?
With a mix of shock and concern, Gao Tian stuck close to Fang Qingying’s side, not leaving an inch. It was as if the moment Fang Qingying showed any sign of faltering, she’d immediately catch her.
Falling in high heels was one thing, but twisting an ankle was the real nightmare.
Fortunately, Fang Qingying walked slowly but with remarkable steadiness.
They arrived at the filming location, a massive square filled with extras playing ordinary passersby.
Yet, the first person Fang Qingying’s eyes sought out was Gu Shengxiao.
