After I Transmigrated into the Novel, I made the Heroine Fall for Me - Chapter 28
Gu Shengxiao glanced at Fang Qingying for a few seconds before walking in from outside, casually glancing back before shutting the door.
She strode over to the chair by the bed, propped her chin lazily, and asked, “Care to explain?”
A living, breathing person right beside her, yet she preferred lifeless merchandise Gu Shengxiao couldn’t shake the irritation whenever she thought about Fang Qingying clutching her own merchandise.
Seriously? Getting jealous over her own merch? What kind of nonsense was that?
“Well, it’s just.” Fang Qingying avoided her gaze, shifting her eyes elsewhere, unwilling to meet hers.
Doing something so irrational right in front of the actual person made Fang Qingying feel unbearably embarrassed.
So when Gu Shengxiao brought it up, her first instinct was to dodge the question.
Otherwise, what was she supposed to say? Shout right in front of the female lead, “I’m obsessed with your looks, in love with your voice, and thirsting for your body”?
No, no, no…
Even if she wasn’t beaten to death for it, Fang Qingying knew she could never say those words out loud, it was just too mortifying.
“Hmm?” Gu Shengxiao’s voice lifted slightly at the end, her long lashes curling as she fixed her gaze on Fang Qingying, clearly waiting for an answer.
Her body relaxed naturally as she leaned back in the chair, watching Fang Qingying quietly.
“What if I said I’m your fan, would you believe me?” Fang Qingying swallowed nervously, her eyes darting around before finally landing on Gu Shengxiao.
She was waiting for Gu Shengxiao’s reaction, as if ready to change her story at the slightest hint of displeasure.
“Oh?” Gu Shengxiao’s red lips parted slightly, her tone teasing. “So, are you a looks fan? A die-hard fan? Or a wifey fan?”
When she said “wifey fan,” Fang Qingying wasn’t sure if it was her imagination, but it almost sounded like Gu Shengxiao had deliberately emphasized those words.
Her low, magnetic voice seeped into Fang Qingying’s ears like an electric current, sending tingles down her spine.
Fang Qingying unconsciously touched her ear, the skin beneath her fingertips burning hot.
The sound left her feeling restless all over, while Gu Shengxiao herself remained composed, her gaze clear and unbothered.
Fang Qingying let out a soft huff, shooting Gu Shengxiao a slightly resentful look. She had no idea how effortlessly she flirted, leaving Fang Qingying all flustered.
“Did I ask the wrong question?” Gu Shengxiao’s eyes never left Fang Qingying, and seeing her reaction, she smirked. “Or is this just Xiao Ying’s way of fooling me?”
There was no trace of belief in her words this little liar was definitely not her fan. That line was just a flimsy excuse.
“No way!” Fang Qingying exclaimed, reacting like a startled cat.
Gu Shengxiao glanced at her and pointed at her hand. “Doesn’t that hurt?”
Fang Qingying blinked in confusion. “Hurt what?”
Without another word, Gu Shengxiao pressed the call button, then gently pushed Fang Qingying back onto the bed, pressing a tissue against the back of her hand where blood was slowly seeping out.
Dazed, Fang Qingying sat on the bed and followed her movements. Oh great, she had dislodged the IV.
In her excitement, she had completely forgotten about the needle in her hand. Now it had shifted, causing the blood to leak. No wonder Gu Shengxiao had suddenly asked if it hurt.
Gu Shengxiao held her hand gently and asked again, “Really, it doesn’t hurt?”
Her fair, jade-like hand was delicate and tender, swelling up instantly from the sudden movement.
She hadn’t expected Fang Qingying to act so abruptly. Had she known, she would have held her down firmly.
Blinking innocently, she realized strangely enough, she didn’t feel any pain at all?
Doctors and nurses rushed over in a flurry, only to sigh helplessly upon seeing the swelling on Fang Qingying’s hand.
“Patients really shouldn’t move too much during an IV drip. It can be dangerous,” the nurse advised earnestly while treating Fang Qingying, casting a meaningful glance at Gu Shengxiao, who had somehow slipped on a mask at some point.
Compared to Fang Qingying’s level of fame, Gu Shengxiao was far, far more renowned.
To be safe, Gu Shengxiao had decided to wear a mask just to avoid giving gossip reporters any fodder for their next sensational piece.
Not that she particularly cared, but she had to consider Yu Lu’s sanity. She’d already made Yu Lu “cry” not long ago. If she caused another meltdown now, Gu Shengxiao figured her ears might not survive the scolding.
“I understand. Thank you,” Gu Shengxiao responded with a slight nod.
Her skin was so delicate that even the slightest pressure could leave a mark. Given that, the current state of her hand was nothing short of “horrifying.”
Once the injury was treated, Fang Qingying switched to her other hand for the IV.
Curious, Gu Shengxiao asked, “Your wrist!” Why was there no scar?
Blinking, Fang Qingying glanced at her wrist, now being adjusted by the nurse, and asked in confusion, “What about my wrist?”
The original owner had been the one to attempt suicide, so Fang Qingying herself hadn’t paid much attention to the wrist-cutting incident. She hadn’t even noticed that there wasn’t a single mark left as if it had never happened.
“Nothing,” Gu Shengxiao murmured, pressing her lips together and shaking her head.
“Family members, take note once this IV bottle is finished, she can be discharged,” the nurse instructed, pointing at the newly hung drip while addressing Gu Shengxiao.
Fang Qingying was simply weak, not suffering from some rare or complicated illness. There was no need for an overnight hospital stay.
Though, if she had money to burn.
Ahem. For safety’s sake, she could, of course, choose to stay longer.
Or so the nurse mused internally.
“Got it. We’ll press the call button when it’s almost done, right?” Gu Shengxiao nodded in acknowledgment.
The nurse nodded back, but then suddenly paused and looked up at Gu Shengxiao with curiosity. “Miss Gu, your voice sounds just like my idol’s!”
It was almost the same tone, but the nurse quickly dismissed the thought, there was no way it could actually be her idol, Gu Shengxiao.
After all, if her goddess ever stepped foot in a hospital, wouldn’t the entertainment gossip reporters have a field day with headlines?
“Must be a mistake. My throat hasn’t been feeling well lately, cough, cough!” Gu Shengxiao’s smile stiffened slightly beneath her mask. She even faked a few weak coughs for good measure, as if to emphasize her discomfort.
Hearing this, the nurse pointed to the badge on her chest. “If Miss Gu’s throat is bothering her, you could visit the outpatient clinic. After all, this is a hospital. Surely Miss Gu wouldn’t avoid treatment out of fear?”
Gu Shengxiao froze, then forced an awkward smile. “I’ve already taken medicine. It’s fine.”
What was I thinking? she scolded herself. This is a hospital and I’m pretending to be sick here? If Yu Lu ever found out, she’d never hear the end of it.
“Alright,” the nurse said before leaving the ward with the doctor.
Once they were gone, Fang Qingying couldn’t help but burst into laughter. “Pfft! Xiao Xiao, you’re just too adorable.”
Who in their right mind pretends to be sick right in front of doctors and nurses? Wasn’t that just asking to be exposed?
“Wasn’t I doing it for you?” Gu Shengxiao sighed helplessly, pulling down her mask, her eyes brimming with affection. Thankfully, the film crew had the day off today, otherwise, Yu Lu’s relentless calls would’ve already tracked her down.
“Hehehe,” Fang Qingying giggled foolishly. “Don’t you think I’ve been a bit unlucky lately? Just left the hospital a few days ago, and now I’m back again?”
Running in and out of the hospital like this made it seem like the original owner’s body was ridiculously frail.
“I heard there’s a sacred mountain in H City, the temple there has really effective protective charms. How about we go together sometime?” Gu Shengxiao casually took a seat on the chair, neatly folding her mask and placing it on the table. She tapped her fingers lightly, waiting for Fang Qingying’s response.
“We’d have to wait until after filming wraps up, right? Neither of us has even had our scenes yet,” Fang Qingying nodded, her heart tempted, though her words sounded like a refusal. Besides, her response also seemed like an attempt to divert the conversation.
If Gu Shengxiao kept pressing, Fang Qingying felt she wouldn’t escape unscathed today.
Her tone was just too disarming, what if she ended up falling headfirst into it?
“Are we heading back to the set tomorrow?” Gu Shengxiao glanced up at her.
She knew Fang Qingying was changing the subject.
But if it was what Fang Qingying wanted, Gu Shengxiao would play along even if it was something as trivial as dodging a topic.
Fang Qingying: “Yeah. Director Liu gave me two days off, today’s the second.”
Gu Shengxiao glanced at the IV drip and tentatively asked, “After the drip’s done, want me to take you home?”
She’d been drinking, no way she could drive herself back, and Gu Shengxiao wouldn’t let her take a cab alone either.
Too dangerous.
Gu Shengxiao pressed her tongue against the roof of her mouth, lost in thought. She wanted nothing more than to take Fang Qingying home with her, but she couldn’t come up with a plausible excuse.
“Sure,” Fang Qingying agreed sweetly, her eyes curving into crescents.
By the time the IV finished, it’d probably be close to 11 PM. Either her family would have to pick her up, or someone else would need to take her back.
So Gu Shengxiao’s offer was exactly what she needed.
888 had once said its sole purpose was to cuckold the male lead. Now that the female lead was right beside her, why not take advantage?
Best if she could cuckold him in one fell swoop.
888: [Warning! Warning!]
The sudden alarm in her head made her frown.
Fang Qingying: “What are you warning me about?”
888: [Host must uphold the values of prosperity, democracy, civility, harmony, and goodwill.]
Fang Qingying was even more confused. How had her thoughts violated socialist core values?
888: [Detected host harboring aspirations of unearned gains. Manual suppression required.]
Fang Qingying: “What’s wrong with wanting instant success? Not allowed?”
After transmigrating, all she wanted was to live comfortably as a wealthy woman and find a sweet, gentle girl to call her own was that so wrong?
Had she begged the system to assign her missions?
Had she?
888: [Would you like a replay of you begging me?]
Some things really could be lethal in one hit.
Fang Qingying instantly backed down. “No, thanks.”
Fang Qingying was completely engrossed in bickering with 888, unaware that to everyone else, she appeared to be in a constant daze.
“Xiao Ying? Are you okay?” Gu Shengxiao reached out and touched Fang Qingying’s forehead, leaning in closer with a puzzled expression.
Why did she suddenly zone out like that?
Hearing this, Fang Qingying blinked and stared at the face so close to hers, swallowing hard in spite of herself.
Oh my god!
This beauty is slaying me!
AWSL! (Ah, I’m dead!)
Completely clueless about what she was thinking, Gu Shengxiao agonized over whether to call the doctor again to have Fang Qingying’s brain checked. She couldn’t possibly be suffering from a headache that might lead to something serious.
“I’m fine.”
She raised her hand and grabbed the other’s hand.
