- Chapter 20 - Humility
No one would have guessed that Yu Lu, who appeared so refined and elite, could be so shameless when she wanted to be, embodying the classic “cry, make a scene, threaten suicide” tactic.
Yu Lu carefully observed Gu Shengxiao’s reaction and tentatively asked, “So, should I have the company help stir things up a bit more? Maybe push the hottest angle right now?”
Currently, the last trending topic on Weibo was still about the CP shippers, especially after Fang Qingying was seen pinning Gu Shengxiao against the door in a domineering manner. A horde of fangirls were practically losing their minds over it.
They wished they had been there in person to witness such a breathtaking moment.
Of course, even though they knew it was just a candid shot with a tricky angle, that didn’t stop them from wanting to instantly transform into the “head-pushing squad” to make their fantasies a reality.
And seeing what looked like an elopement scene only fueled their excitement even more.
“Do as you like,” Gu Shengxiao said lightly, her lashes lifting slightly. Her face remained expressionless, as if she couldn’t care less about Yu Lu’s arrangements.
But from the rearview mirror, Yu Lu could see the faint tension in Gu Shengxiao’s fingers as she gripped the script, veins slightly protruding clearly suppressing something.
After driving along the winding mountain road for a while, they hit a traffic jam just as they were about to enter the highway.
Yu Lu glanced irritably at her watch. They had an hour left before they’d be late, and under normal traffic conditions, the trip would take at least thirty-five minutes.
Gu Shengxiao had been scrolling through her phone for a while, as if waiting for a message from someone. After some thought, she finally asked, “Yu Lu, can I log into my account?”
She wasn’t fond of managing social media accounts unless absolutely necessary, usually leaving them to Yu Lu and the team. As a result, she had even forgotten her password.
“Which account?” Yu Lu asked without turning her head.
Her eyes were fixed on the traffic ahead, feeling increasingly frustrated and what came next only made it worse.
“My Weibo password.”
“Oh, that? It’s just the initials of your name in lowercase plus your phone number.”
Without a second thought, Yu Lu blurted out the password, her mind preoccupied with when the traffic would finally clear.
In the end, despite the jam, Yu Lu managed to get Gu Shengxiao to the set safely, arriving with just five minutes to spare.
“I’ll leave you here. Xiao Lin will be here soon, don’t wander off alone,” Yu Lu said from the driver’s seat, not getting out of the car. She rolled down the window to give Gu Shengxiao a final reminder.
Gu Shengxiao nodded. “I know.”
Starting today, her scenes would be prioritized in filming, mainly because her schedule had fallen too far behind.
Xiao Lin was her assistant, who was supposed to come with her today. But since Gu Shengxiao would be staying at the crew’s hotel, Xiao Lin had gone ahead to check the accommodations and ensure security.
Once, Gu Shengxiao had been stalked by an obsessive fan at a hotel, nearly having her door broken into in the middle of the night. Ever since then, her assistant always inspected the hotel beforehand whether it was the surroundings or the interior, everything had to be scouted in advance.
The moment she arrived on set, a crowd swarmed around her. Gu Shengxiao’s fans truly spanned the globe, captivating people of all ages and genders.
“Ms. Gu, this is your dressing room.”
“Ms. Gu, here are all your costumes.”
“Ms. Gu, this chair is from Director Liu.”
“……”
A large crowd surrounded Gu Shengxiao, chattering away noisily with everyone talking over each other.
Meanwhile, Yu Lu, who was driving back to headquarters, received a tearful call from the head of the PR department.
“Yu Lu-jie, was this message posted by you?”
Yu Lu: “???”
What message? Who posted what?
Yu Lu asked, “What are you talking about?”
She had been in the car the entire time and barely touched her phone, how could she have posted some unknown message? Was this some kind of ghostly prank?
“Yu Lu-jie, haven’t you checked Weibo?”
After a hesitant pause, the person on the other end cautiously reminded Yu Lu to check the current trending topics on Weibo.
“I’ve been driving the whole time and didn’t have a chance to check my phone. What’s going on?” Yu Lu asked, puzzled, as she continued driving.
What on earth had happened to make them sound so aggrieved and frantic?
“Shengxiao’s Weibo account posted something, and now it’s completely out of control. That single post alone has taken up three or four spots on the trending list.”
“Huh? I didn’t log in.” Yu Lu started, then suddenly stopped.
It was true she hadn’t logged into Gu Shengxiao’s Weibo account today but Gu Shengxiao herself had asked for the login details.
The truth was obvious.
It was Gu Shengxiao’s doing.
“What did she post?” Yu Lu abruptly changed the subject, directly asking the PR head what exactly Gu Shengxiao had posted.
“Yu Lu-jie, maybe you should just take a look yourself?”
The PR head didn’t want to get caught in the middle of their dispute, especially since the trending topic wasn’t just refusing to die down, it was only getting more intense.
Suspicious, Yu Lu hung up and opened the Weibo app, swiftly logging into her manager account. A notification immediately popped up: “The account you follow, Gu Shengxiao, has posted.”
Moreover, her inbox was flooded with red dots so many that the number of unread private messages couldn’t even be displayed.
She skimmed through a few of them, all asking whether the news was true.
Yu Lu wondered, what news? Could it possibly be fake?
With that thought, Yu Lu clicked on the second pinned post on Gu Shengxiao’s Weibo. She nodded subconsciously, yes, this was definitely real.
But the next second, she abruptly closed the app and called Gu Shengxiao.
The phone rang for a few seconds. Since filming hadn’t started yet at this hour, the call was quickly answered.
“Hello? Yu Lu-jie, what’s up?”
Gu Shengxiao’s cool voice traveled through the phone, bringing a refreshing chill to the sweltering summer heat.
Even Yu Lu, who wasn’t particularly sensitive to voices, couldn’t help but be momentarily enchanted. But she quickly remembered why she had made this call.
“Shengxiao, I’m not trying to control what you post on Weibo, but shouldn’t you at least discuss something like this with me, your manager?”
“Besides, when you posted it, I was literally sitting right in front of you, driving. Did you just pretend I didn’t exist?”
Yu Lu unleashed a torrent of complaints, making it clear to Gu Shengxiao that her actions had been exposed.
“You were driving. If I distracted you, wouldn’t that be unsafe?”
“Well, that’s true.”
Yu Lu instinctively recalled the traffic jam at the time and found herself somewhat agreeing with the reasoning.
“Moreover, there’s no need to conceal the truth.”
