- Chapter 12 - You Will Not Do Anything to Me, Right?
When Yu Yi returned after class, he found himself locked out once again. He stood before the transparent gates of the Command Academy, wanting to find Ji Xingxiao to let him in. He pulled out his phone, only to realize a moment later that he did not even have Ji Xingxiao’s contact information.
However, his luck was good this time. After standing there for a while, he encountered someone else who was about to enter. It was a man with striking red hair. It was not a dull red, but a vibrant and flashy shade. The man’s skin was very fair, making the red hair stand out even more.
The Command Academy only admitted ultra-high-level Alphas, yet this person looked as delicate and feminine as an Omega. His expression was cold, which contrasted sharply with his bold hair color. He did not even look up as he brushed past Yu Yi with an indifferent air.
Yu Yi shamelessly followed him through the doors. It was only then that the red-haired man noticed a Beta trailing behind him. He furrowed his brows and scrutinized Yu Yi with a cold, piercing gaze. High-level Alphas possessed a natural sense of pressure, and Yu Yi felt a chill run down his spine. He gave an awkward smile and tried to make conversation.
“Hey, handsome. Your hair is truly beautiful,” Yu Yi said.
The red-haired man gave him a frigid look, ignored the comment, and walked straight toward the elevator. Yu Yi followed him inside. The man glanced at him several times and finally spoke when he saw Yu Yi repeatedly pressing the button for the twenty-fifth floor without any response.
“Who are you?” he asked. There were no Omegas in the Command Academy, so a Beta like Yu Yi was highly suspicious.
“Handsome, could you do me a favor and let me up to the twenty-fifth floor?” Yu Yi asked.
“Are you looking for Ji Xingxiao?” The red-haired man became serious. “Who exactly are you?”
Yu Yi was about to explain when the elevator screen suddenly lit up. There was no image, but Ji Xingxiao’s roar came through the speakers with startling clarity. “Get in here now!”
The elevator chimed and stopped at the twenty-fifth floor. Yu Yi grinned and said, “No need for the help, handsome.” He then walked out confidently while the red-haired man watched in surprise.
The door to Ji Xingxiao’s dormitory was wide open. He appeared to be angry as he stood there with his arms crossed. When he saw Yu Yi’s playful expression, he said with annoyance, “If you continue to spread rumors everywhere, I will not be lenient.”
“I have not said anything. I have not even had the chance yet,” Yu Yi interrupted. He ignored Ji Xingxiao’s defensive posture and leaned in close to him.
Yu Yi was one hundred eighty-two centimeters tall, which was quite tall for a Beta, but Ji Xingxiao was still half a head taller. Yu Yi intentionally took a step closer until they were almost touching. He tilted his head back to look at Ji Xingxiao’s deep-set eyes and the birthmark on his temple. When Ji Xingxiao felt Yu Yi’s breath on him, he realized they were too close and took a step back with a frown.
This was the moment Yu Yi was waiting for. He ducked down and slipped under Ji Xingxiao’s arm into the room. Yu Yi called out from inside, “If you do not lift the restrictions on the elevator for me, I will have to keep hitching rides with other people. Soon, the entire building will know we are living together.”
“Everyone already knows!” Ji Xingxiao shouted, his anger rising.
Yu Yi glanced at the decorative water wall in the room. It had not frozen yet, which meant Ji Xingxiao was not that furious. Yu Yi laughed and sat on the sofa. “There is nothing I can do about that,” he said, dramatically raising his hand to admire the ring on his finger. “After all, you are the one who got engaged to me.”
The water wall began to freeze. Yu Yi quickly lowered his hand and said, “I am just joking. I am just joking.”
“How long do you plan to stay here?” Ji Xingxiao asked, getting straight to the point.
“What is the maximum amount of time you can tolerate?” Yu Yi asked in return.
“Until next semester,” Ji Xingxiao replied.
Yu Yi gasped. “You are so heartless!”
“That is my limit,” Ji Xingxiao said through gritted teeth.
“Fine,” Yu Yi agreed. He knew there was no benefit in pushing Ji Xingxiao too far. “But can we wait until I graduate to announce the cancellation of the engagement?”
“Why?” Ji Xingxiao refused immediately. Graduation was at least four years away. If they maintained this relationship for that long, people would take the rumors as truth. It would make things far more complicated to resolve later. Ji Xingxiao realized what Yu Yi might be planning. He said mockingly, “You want to spend four years in this school as my fiancé? How would I ever cancel the engagement then?”
Yu Yi realized that was a valid point. “How about this,” he suggested. “We keep it until you find someone you actually like. Once you have someone, we will cancel it immediately, and you can tell them that everything between us was fake.”
“Oh?” Ji Xingxiao narrowed his eyes. He did not relax at Yu Yi’s seemingly thoughtful words. “Is this how you show your love?”
Yu Yi felt a bit embarrassed. To be honest, his love for Ji Xingxiao was quite shallow. He was simply acting out a level of devotion he did not truly feel. However, Yu Yi was quick-witted. He said seriously, “Is this not love? To love someone means wanting them to be happy. If I clung to you even after you found someone else, that would be annoying. Do you want the person you love to dislike you?”
“I do not see a hint of sadness on your face,” Ji Xingxiao said with a cold laugh.
“I am sad! I am staying here specifically to work hard and become your legitimate fiancé,” Yu Yi said with feigned grief. “If you find someone else, just tell them it was a one-sided love on my part.”
“It already is a one-sided love!” Ji Xingxiao corrected him angrily.
Yu Yi noticed the ice on the water wall was melting. He breathed a sigh of relief. “Think of it this way. The fact that I moved in cannot be hidden. It is better to be open about it, right?”
Ji Xingxiao snorted but did not disagree.
“When I eventually move out, I will tell everyone we broke up because I was not good enough for you,” Yu Yi offered.
Ji Xingxiao was speechless. Seeing that Ji Xingxiao was silent, Yu Yi quickly grabbed his toiletries. “If there is nothing else, I am going to take a shower.”
For safety reasons, the guest bathroom door was semi-transparent. For some reason, Yu Yi did not turn on the privacy mode. Ji Xingxiao watched as he walked in and immediately began to undress. While it was not completely clear, he could see the outline of Yu Yi’s waist against the glass. Ji Xingxiao froze for a moment before turning his head away. He thought Yu Yi was truly shameless.
When Yu Yi opened the door later, a refreshing scent carried by the warm steam filled the room. It was not an unpleasant smell.
“Oh?” Yu Yi said as he walked out, drying his wet hair. “You are still here.”
“This is my dormitory,” Ji Xingxiao said with an unnatural expression. “Why can I not be in my own dormitory?”
“Oh, no reason. I just thought you did not want to see me,” Yu Yi said with a grin. He sat down nearby. Droplets of water from his hair fell onto Ji Xingxiao’s hand. Yu Yi was wearing worn-out clothes that he used as pajamas. The collar was wide, leaving his collarbones fully exposed.
“Do not sit so close,” Ji Xingxiao said. He glanced over and immediately looked away. He frowned, and the water droplets on his skin instantly turned into ice before evaporating.
Yu Yi was amazed. “Wow! Is that your ability?”
“It has nothing to do with you,” Ji Xingxiao said impatiently.
“Is it a water-based power? That is so cool!” Yu Yi said with admiration. As a Beta, Yu Yi possessed no special abilities.
“By the way,” Yu Yi said. “I do not have a mecha. What is an online simulation practice?”
“You do not have a mecha, but do you not even have a simulation pod?” Ji Xingxiao asked.
“I think I know what that is,” Yu Yi said. “But I do not own one.”
Ji Xingxiao felt frustrated. He wondered why the Cheng family had given him such a fiancé. “You need to have at least a simulation pod,” he stated.
“Alright. How much does one cost?”
“A basic one is about two hundred thousand star coins,” Ji Xingxiao said.
“How much?” Yu Yi shouted. He should have known prices in the Upper District were astronomical. “Can I rent one?”
“Those are not public items!” Ji Xingxiao replied. No one in the Upper District would ever need to rent one.
Yu Yi slumped back with a discouraged expression. He needed to save his money for tuition.
“Do you really want to learn how to pilot a mecha?” Ji Xingxiao asked. He felt a bit of pity for the Beta.
“I do,” Yu Yi nodded. “Otherwise, why would I stay at the Guard Academy?”
“I have one here,” Ji Xingxiao said hesitantly. “I can lend it to you.”
“Really?” Yu Yi’s eyes lit up. “Husband, you are too good to me! I might actually fall in love with you.”
“Stop calling me that!” Ji Xingxiao shouted.
“Okay, okay,” Yu Yi nodded. “Where is it?”
“It is in my room. Follow me,” Ji Xingxiao said.
Yu Yi gave him a suggestive look. “In your room? Is this not moving a bit too fast? You will not do anything to me, right?”
A vein throbbed on Ji Xingxiao’s forehead. He realized he should never have been so kind.
“I am not lending it to you then,” Ji Xingxiao said as he stood up.
“No, wait!” Yu Yi shouted, grabbing Ji Xingxiao’s leg. “I was only joking! Please do not be angry!”
