After I Married the Comatose CEO - Chapter 15
Xie Qiu froze for several seconds before he came to his senses.
He walked quickly to the bed and caught the large hand just as it was about to fall. “Husband, are you looking for something?”
He Siyan gripped his fingers back, holding on tightly and not letting go.
Xie Qiu’s heart beat uncontrollably. He leaned over the edge of the bed and asked, “Husband, can you hear me talking?”
The man on the bed kept his eyes closed, and the movement of his hand seemed more like a meaningless reflex.
Xie Qiu negotiated with him softly, “I’m going to let go of your hand now. If you are awake, keep your hand raised, okay?”
After saying that, he slowly pulled his own hand out of the man’s grip.
As he pulled away, that long, handsome hand dropped down lifelessly.
Xie Qiu sighed softly, then curled his lips into a smile and praised him: “It’s okay, husband. You’ve already done a great job.”
According to the doctors, when a person in a coma makes a large limb movement without external stimulation, it means the patient is about to enter a state of minimal consciousness.
“Husband’s condition is a little better every day than it was yesterday.” Xie Qiu stood up to tuck the man in, giving him a word of encouragement. “Maybe tomorrow you’ll be able to hear my voice, right?”
Just as he finished speaking, the door was pushed open. The caregiver came in to give He Siyan his evening massage.
Xie Qiu left the room and went downstairs.
“Xiao Qiu, you’re down.” Su Wanrong called out. “I was just about to send someone to call you for dinner.”
Xie Qiu smiled. “As they say, being early isn’t as good as being on time.”
Su Wanrong asked casually, “Have you been to see Siyan?”
“Yes, I went to see my husband.” Xie Qiu didn’t mention the little episode from just now. He only said, “The caregiver was about to do the massage, so I came down.”
During this time, he had gradually begun to empathize with Su Wanrong’s feelings. He didn’t want her to go through the torture of repeated cycles of surprise followed by disappointment.
During dinner, the three of them sat at their usual spots.
Halfway through the meal, Su Wanrong suddenly seemed to remember something. “By the way, Xiao Qiu, I forgot to ask—do you want to invite your foster parents to the birthday banquet?”
Xie Qiu’s movements paused. He replied obediently, “I’ll follow your arrangement, Mom.”
Grandpa He’s birthday banquet would only invite prominent figures from City A. The Xie family didn’t really make the cut, so it was normal for Su Wanrong to forget.
Su Wanrong spoke gently, “I want to hear your thoughts. Do you want to see them?”
Xie Qiu was silent for a few seconds before replying tactfully, “I’ll have plenty of chances to see them. It doesn’t have to be at Grandpa’s banquet. After all, it’s a very formal occasion.”
In fact, when the Xie family accepted the “sky-high bride price” from the He family, Su Wanrong likely already knew that his relationship with them was not very good.
By suddenly asking him this question now, she probably wanted to show that she respected his opinion while also testing his attitude toward the Xie family.
As expected, Su Wanrong followed up by saying: “Xiao Qiu is right. There will be many guests at the He house that day, and we might not be able to look after everyone properly. Let’s wait until next time.”
With that, the topic was lightly brushed aside.
After dinner, Xie Qiu went back to his room to take a shower and then went to the sickroom next door.
He sat on the chair by the bed and reached for the fairy tale book, but after a thought, he pulled his hand back.
“Husband, I’m not reading you a bedtime story tonight.” Xie Qiu gave a mysterious smile. “I’m going to read you something different tonight.”
He pulled his phone out of his pajama pocket and opened a search for news reports about the He Group.
Ever since He Siyan fell into a coma, the top management of the He Group had split into several factions. There was the faction led by Su Wanrong and Assistant Fang, the faction led by the second He brother, He Feng, and the third brother, He Cheng, and then the neutrals who might switch sides at any moment.
Because of this, the He Group was currently going through a difficult time. Not only was there internal fighting, but there was also pressure from the outside. Many competitors wanted to take the chance to bite a piece of meat off the sleeping lion.
Xie Qiu picked a particularly mean report, cleared his throat, and began to read it aloud.
Since fairy tales couldn’t wake up his husband in a coma, he decided to try using the thing he cared about most: The He Group.
Unfortunately, even after his throat felt a bit dry from reading, the man lying on the bed gave no reaction at all.
“Cough, cough…” Xie Qiu put down his phone and took a sip of water from a cup.
A moment later, he leaned close to that handsome face: “Husband, can’t you hear anything I’m saying?”
The man’s breathing was steady. Xie Qiu continued: “Husband, if you don’t wake up soon, the kingdom you worked so hard to build is going to be divided up by the bad guys.”
Seeing that the man still didn’t react, Xie Qiu lowered his voice and threatened: “Husband, don’t force me to use my secret weapon.”
However, he didn’t say what that secret weapon actually was.
“Alright, that’s enough for today.” Xie Qiu yawned. “Husband, I’m going back to my own bed to sleep tonight.”
He touched the hand resting on the sheet and stood up. “Goodnight, husband. I’m right next door. Call me if you need anything.”
As soon as he said it, Xie Qiu laughed at himself. “What silly things am I saying again…”
He shook his head and turned to go back to his own room.
Xie Qiu jumped into his soft, fluffy bed and rolled around happily. He couldn’t help but sigh: “It’s still most comfortable to sleep in my own bed.”
He flipped over onto his pillow and quickly fell asleep.
At the same time, in the sickroom next door, the man’s pale, large hand was fumbling on the bed.
The man’s range of motion was limited. Soon, his hand stopped and slowly curled into a fist, pressing so hard that the veins on the back of his hand popped out.
A few seconds later, the hand let go, losing its strength again.
When the caregiver entered the room, he saw He Siyan lying quietly on the bed, just like every other night.
The next day was Saturday. Xie Qiu woke up naturally and felt very refreshed.
He went downstairs for breakfast and then started helping Su Wanrong.
Time flew by. In the evening, Xie Qiu went to the sickroom and pushed his husband in the coma outside.
As he pushed the man across the grass, he apologized in a low voice: “Husband, I’ve been so busy these past few days that I forgot to bring you out for some fresh air.”
He pushed the wheelchair to the usual spot. Just as he sat on the swing, he heard the “woof woof” of a puppy.
Xie Qiu immediately smiled. “Oreo, come here.”
A little black dog ran toward him from a distance, its tail wagging back and forth as it ran.
Xie Qiu leaned down to catch the puppy as it lunged at him and held it in his arms. “Oreo, how did you know I was here?”
The puppy was all black except for a small patch of white fur on its belly. It looked like a sandwich cookie, so he named it Oreo.
“Woof woof~” Oreo rolled around in his arms, showing its belly for him to rub.
Xie Qiu rubbed the puppy’s soft belly and asked with a laugh, “Oreo, did you get a little fatter again?”
Oreo played with him for a while, then jumped out of his arms and ran a few laps around the grass.
After a short while, it ran back. But this time, it didn’t return to the swing. Instead, it went to the wheelchair and bit the shoe on He Siyan’s foot.
“Oreo, you can’t bite Daddy’s shoe.” Xie Qiu spoke up to stop it. “Come here, quick.”
But Oreo seemed to be having fun. It shook its head while biting He Siyan’s shoe.
“Oreo, you’re being naughty.” Xie Qiu jumped off the swing, picked up the puppy, and teased it: “Watch out, or your Dad will give you a spanking when he wakes up.”
Oreo barked twice, appearing quite unimpressed.
Xie Qiu laughed and leaned down to put the puppy back on the grass. “Go play, Oreo.”
He looked at the man sitting in the wheelchair. His face didn’t look quite as pale as before, though he was still very thin.
Xie Qiu went to wash his hands. When he came back, he suddenly felt something drip onto his hair.
He looked up. A few more drops fell, and he realized it was starting to rain.
Xie Qiu immediately started running, wanting to push his husband back inside as quickly as possible.
The physical condition of someone in a coma isn’t like a normal person; their immunity is much worse. He couldn’t let him stay out in a heavy rain.
However, the summer rain came out of nowhere. In just a few seconds, large raindrops began to drum down from the sky.
Without a second thought, Xie Qiu quickly unbuttoned his white shirt and draped it over the man’s head. Then he pushed the wheelchair quickly toward the hallway.
Luckily, it wasn’t a long distance. Soon, both of them successfully escaped the downpour.
“Husband…” Xie Qiu said, panting slightly as he apologized. “Sorry. I definitely won’t let you get caught in the rain next time.”
He calmed his breathing, went around to the front of the wheelchair, took off his shirt, and put it back on.
When He Jingchen walked out, he happened to see this scene.
Xie Qiu had his head down. The damp white shirt clung to his body, clearly showing the shape of his thin waist.
He Jingchen looked away: “What happened?”
“Hmm?” Xie Qiu looked up and smiled when he saw who it was. “Nothing much. It started raining suddenly, so I took off my shirt to use as an umbrella for my husband.”
He Jingchen instinctively looked at his face and noticed his hair was wet, too, making the curls at the ends even more obvious.
Xie Qiu casually wiped the rainwater off his face and started pushing the wheelchair again: “Second Young Master, we’re going upstairs now.”
He Jingchen stood there watching their backs for a moment before turning to leave.
Xie Qiu took his husband back to the room and, with the help of the caregiver, placed him back on the bed.
He took off the man’s clothes, carefully wiped his body with warm water, and changed him into fresh home clothes before he finally felt at ease.
Xie Qiu sat in the chair, now in the mood to joke: “Husband, I almost turned into a soaked chicken just now.”
The man on the bed moved his brow slightly.
“My hair is naturally curly, so it gets even curlier when it’s wet. My friends at the orphanage used to tease me and say I looked like a curly-haired cat.” Xie Qiu grabbed the large hand by the bed and lowered his head, letting the man’s hand touch his hair. “Feel it; it’s not actually that curly, is it?”
The soft hair was damp from the rain. It pressed into the palm of the man’s hand, making his skin feel itchy and tingly. The man’s fingers curled up.
Xie Qiu lifted his face, and the hand slid down, coming to rest on his cheek.
He couldn’t tell if the man’s hand was too big or if his face was too small, but one hand covered almost his entire face.
Xie Qiu smiled silently. Water dripping from his hair ran past his eyes, and he instinctively closed them.
The drop of water continued to flow down, looking just like a falling tear.
He Siyan’s fingers moved again. His thumb gently brushed the skin under the eye, as if he were wiping away that tear for him.
Xie Qiu sensed it immediately: “Husband?”
