- Chapter 7 - Clarification
Zhang Zeyang pressed the doorbell as usual and waited for about ten minutes before the main door slowly opened.
As soon as he entered, he could see the broken railing on the second floor, like a neatly constructed fence with a large gap. An idiom he learned from picture reading in primary school immediately came to his mind. However, this incident baffled him; he remembered that when he left the night before the day before yesterday, the villa was still normal. The next morning, he saw that the old ivy hanging from the eaves on the third floor looked as if it had been completely stripped overnight, with leaves scattered all over the ground.
That scene was truly suspicious.
But his Miss remained silent about it, even rejecting his suggestion to hire a few people to reinstall the railing, leaving the second floor balcony wide open.
“Miss, here are the micro-cameras you requested.”
“Mm.”
Seeing Xu Yujing looking down at the surveillance footage, Zhang Zeyang couldn’t help but be curious, “Miss, is there a problem with the surveillance cameras installed inside the villa?” The railing on the second floor was broken too suspiciously, almost like a thief had broken in to rob the place, but he had inspected the entire villa that day, and other than the books scattered on the floor in the third-floor office area, there was nothing else unusual. Zhang Zeyang felt a faint sense of unease in his heart and couldn’t help but mention, “Madam previously said I should select a few personal assistants. If you don’t like strangers near you, I can have them stay on the first floor.”
In the surveillance video from that night, a fleeting, elegant figure could vaguely be seen flying past. The figure was fast, and the camera only captured a few rapidly flashing blurs. This was only discovered after Xu Yujing reviewed the footage several times. If the intruder hadn’t been wearing such conspicuous clothing, she might not have noticed anything.
But would a thief dress so brightly?
Xu Yujing suddenly looked up, “A few days ago, you mentioned there was a celebrity living next door?”
Zhang Zeyang didn’t understand why the topic suddenly jumped to this. After a moment of hesitation, he continued, “The last time I saw someone move in next door, I looked into it. It should be a female celebrity named Tang Shuxia, but recently there has been a huge uproar about her online.”
Xu Yujing gestured for him to continue.
Zhang Zeyang paused. Since Xu Yujing’s car accident, he had rarely seen her interested in anything, let alone a person. Could this Tang Shuxia be special in some way?
As for Tang Shuxia, Zhang Zeyang had done his homework. Concerned that someone bad might approach Xu Yujing, he had looked into Tang Shuxia’s background and ended up consuming a lot of gossip, just like the general public. “The internet is buzzing that she got involved in the relationship between Cheng Zeyu and Mu Yingying, becoming the mistress. She was cyberbullied a few days ago, her address was leaked, and she even ended up in the hospital. But what’s strange is that she hasn’t come out to clarify anything yet, so it might really be confirmed.”
Xu Yujing, “Who are Cheng Zeyu and Mu Yingying?”
Zhang Zeyang, “…”
How to explain the touching love story of the three time Golden Globe winner and the Heavenly King to someone who doesn’t follow entertainment news? While he was racking his brain, Xu Yujing naturally dropped the question and continued, “You said she was beaten into the hospital a few days ago?”
For the first time, Zhang Zeyang felt his eloquence was lacking. He simply took out his phone and searched for the video of Tang Shuxia being chased and beaten, as well as the first hand gossip about Tang Shuxia that the major online commentators he followed were covering. “Miss, these few are enough.”
Xu Yujing stared at the delicate person being pushed and hit in the video on the phone, her brow gradually furrowing. Was this person truly the same one who broke into her house that night?
She felt such a strong sense of incongruity; if they didn’t share the same face, she would suspect the person had been replaced.
Fortunately, the timelines matched up.
Zhang Zeyang constantly watched Xu Yujing’s expression, “Oh, right, I just saw a promotion saying Tang Shuxia will live stream tonight to clarify things with Cheng Zeyu. It seems to have started about half an hour ago.” He hesitantly whispered, “Miss, would you like to watch?”
In the live stream room, the dense barrage of comments immediately crashed Zhang Zeyang’s account. Under Xu Yujing’s suspicious gaze, he managed to log in three times, and by the time he succeeded, the sweat on his back had soaked his shirt.
[WTF, I’ve been watching her eat grapes here for half an hour, and you finally say something? Didn’t you say you were going to clarify?]
[Jerk Tang, you’re amazing, you made me hungry. But her grapes look so big and juicy, my baby is so envious, sob sob sob.]
[Jerk, you tricked us into watching for fun?]
[Go to hell, go to hell, all mistresses deserve to go to hell.]
Tang Shuxia sat with her legs crossed, immediately tossing out another grape as soon as she finished one, catching each one accurately. The sight made Xie Jinzhi’s eyelids twitch the flesh on her cheek almost spasmed. But this little ancestor completely ignored her reminders and wasted time with this crowd. Ten minutes passed, then another ten minutes…
Just as Xie Jinzhi was about to despair.
Tang Shuxia shook her leg slightly, “It is indeed very delicious.”
[???]
[What’s delicious? The grapes?]
[Please be human. I actually used my evening self-study time. The teacher thought I had diarrhea and sent a classmate to look for me. Now we’re both squatting until our legs are numb, sob sob sob.]
Tang Shuxia precisely located this comment, “Alright, for the sake of this classmate, I will make a statement.”
As soon as she finished speaking, the comment section was filled with expressions of ecstatic relief.
However, Tang Shuxia frowned in feigned distress, “Ah, I’ve always been quite curious about the man you all decided was your idol. What does he look like again?”
Xie Jinzhi, “…”
If she hadn’t just accompanied Tang Shuxia to see Cheng Zeyu, she might have believed her.
Xie Jinzhi directly searched on a certain engine (Baidu), and a series of facts and photos about Cheng Zeyu popped up. She handed the phone over, “Look, he looks like this.”
Tang Shuxia casually scanned the photos on the phone. Every time she flipped a page, she couldn’t help but let out a soft “Tsk,” with undisguised disgust and disdain clearly visible on her face, “Just this??”
It was hard to believe that the original owner fell into a verbal storm and even lost her life over such a plain-looking little man. She truly died with her eyes wide open. Perhaps heaven guided her here to seek justice for the original owner?
Coldness filled Tang Shuxia’s eyes, “I, Tang Shuxia, declare again that I have absolutely no relationship with this man named Cheng Zeyu.”
[Just this??]
[Just this??]
[Just this??]
A series of echoing comments, unsure if they were mimicking Tang Shuxia or mocking her concise statement.
Tang Shuxia didn’t care, and her mood was even quite good, “If you insist on defining this relationship, it would probably be he harassed me persistently and used his seniority to coerce me into agreeing to the dates he offered.” Saying this, she couldn’t help but let out another ‘Tsk,’ “It seems you all have poor judgment. I hope you can keep your eyes open in the future and not be used as a pawn without even knowing it.”
Xie Jinzhi, “???”
Holy crap, holy crap, holy crap.
This little ancestor really dared to say anything. She rushed forward in a panic and covered the camera, “The clarification ends here for today. Thank you, everyone.”
Tang Shuxia sounded like she hadn’t finished, “I haven’t warned them yet. Why did you shut it off for me?”
Xie Jinzhi, “What? You still want to warn them? Warn them about what? You think you’re going to heaven, look at you!”
Tang Shuxia, “…”
She felt that after this matter was settled, she would probably have to replace her subordinate with a more obedient one. In the past, she would never have kept a subordinate so rebellious.
Xie Jinzhi was unaware that her life had just teetered on the edge of disaster. Of course, she was even less aware that she was about to face the possibility of unemployment. Regardless, she couldn’t afford to face either outcome. She anxiously picked up her phone, “Do you believe me, what you just said will be trending again soon? Didn’t we agree to just clarify a bit first?”
Tang Shuxia let her off for the time being, considering that Xie Jinzhi was always thinking about the original owner, “It’s clarified.”
You call that a clarification?
That was indiscriminate attacking, directly triggering the mass mockery skill.
As expected, a trending topic titled #Shocking! Tang Shuxia Clarifies No Relation to Cheng Zeyu, Reveals Cheng Coerced Her Using Seniority# quickly appeared and shot up the trending list. The comments underneath were increasing by the minute. Xie Jinzhi watched helplessly as the topic climbed from the bottom of the trending list, quickly entering the top ten. There was even a picture of Tang Shuxia’s clearly disgusted face accompanying it, with the caption “Just this???”
Even through the screen, Xie Jinzhi could feel the wave of disdain rushing towards her.
Tang Shuxia glanced at it, “Not bad.”
Xie Jinzhi’s phone suddenly rang. She panicked and hastily hit the decline button, “It’s over, CEO Gao is calling again.”
Tang Shuxia was unconcerned, “So what?”
Xie Jinzhi could guess with her toes that the other party must have seen the trending news and was calling to demand an apology or to pay to take down the trend. If she were unaware, she would probably think that was the best course of action right now. But, remembering the major scoop she had on Cheng Zeyu and Mu Yingying on her phone, she steeled her heart and shut down her relentlessly ringing phone.
The world around her instantly became quiet.
On the other side, CEO Gao, unable to get through, angrily threw his phone to the ground, “Xie Jinzhi’s wings have hardened. How dare she not answer my call? Are they trying to clarify, or have they gone crazy?”
Xie Jinzhi was restless. She soon remembered the important matter, “Should we drop the scoop tomorrow?”
Tang Shuxia calmly tossed another grape into her mouth, “It tastes so good.”
Xie Jinzhi couldn’t figure out Tang Shuxia’s thoughts. The calmer the other party acted, the more anxious she became, “Stop eating. Let’s drop the scoop first, otherwise, you won’t get rid of that mistress label. Don’t you want to resume work immediately? Isn’t your wish to take on more roles and let more people recognize you?”
Tang Shuxia, “Work?”
What a foreign word.
It was probably similar to her time as the leader of the Demonic Sect. To expand her territory and recruit talent, Tang Shuxia had worked diligently in the past, but the result was…
Tang Shuxia found it extremely boring, “Many people recognize me now anyway.”
Xie Jinzhi was momentarily speechless, unable to refute.
Tang Shuxia popped another grape into her mouth, “I haven’t met that three-time Golden Globe winner yet. Perhaps we should find an opportunity to meet in the next couple of days.”
Xie Jinzhi, “Meet her for what?”
Tang Shuxia smiled without answering. Nothing was more exciting than witnessing an opponent’s downfall with her own eyes.
