After I Gave Up/Let Things Slide, I Became Famous Across The Entire Internet - Chapter 26.2
final commercial product came out, and I filmed it very well. As a thank you, they specially sent me several boxes. Xu Yujing, this box is for you.”
Xu Yujing: “…”
On the day Tang Shuxia was due to leave for filming in S City, Xu Yujing was about to see her off when a black car pulled up and blocked the entrance to their villas. Tang Mingcheng slowly stepped out of the car. He didn’t even glance at Xu Yujing but walked straight to Tang Shuxia. “Shuxia, where are you going?”
Tang Shuxia: “Get to the point.”
Tang Mingcheng had worried himself sick over the past few days, his hair turning white. He looked like he had crossed directly from middle age into old age. Tang Shuxia could tell this wasn’t an act or him trying to elicit sympathy, but that he was genuinely facing consequences.
Tang Mingcheng: “Miss Xu, I have a private matter to discuss with my daughter. Please excuse us.”
Xu Yujing nodded. “Alright.”
Zhang Zeyang pushed Xu Yujing back inside the villa and quietly reported to her, “Tang Mingcheng has been rejected by many people these past few days. Those who used to call him brothers wouldn’t even let him in the door or answer his calls. He can’t even spare a thought for Yu Huimei. He’s at the end of his rope, which is why he came to find Miss Tang.”
Xu Yujing glanced worriedly in their direction.
Tang Shuxia and Tang Mingcheng walked to a secluded corner. Tang Mingcheng directly stated his purpose. “Shuxia, Dad’s company has run into some trouble. Right now, only you can save it. Dad hopes you”
Tang Shuxia raised an eyebrow, interrupting his lengthy discourse. “Why should I save it?”
Tang Mingcheng’s prepared speech was completely deflated by Tang Shuxia’s cold, almost heartless question. He stared at the girl with the indifferent expression, unable to connect her with the dependent daughter he remembered. “Shuxia, how can you say such a thing? This is the company your mother and I built together. It holds half of your mother’s efforts. And in the future, when Dad retires, I will leave this company to you.”
Tang Shuxia sounded like she had heard a joke. “Leave it to me?”
I suppose he said the same thing to Tang Wenjing.
Tang Mingcheng noticed a new barrier between Tang Shuxia and himself, and his expression grew severe. “Yes, Dad was planning to leave it to you. You will be the largest shareholder of Tang Corporation. This company’s name is Tang, and it can only be left to a Tang family member.”
Tang Shuxia couldn’t help but sneer. “Tang Mingcheng, I think you’ve misunderstood something.”
A trace of confusion flashed in Tang Mingcheng’s expression. “What?”
Tang Shuxia: “I don’t collect garbage.”
Tang Mingcheng almost lost control of his temper upon hearing this. How could the company he had painstakingly managed for decades be called garbage by Tang Shuxia?
He clenched his fists tightly, the veins on his arms bulging, but he quickly extinguished the blazing anger in his heart. He even ignored Tang Shuxia’s extremely unfamiliar address for him. “Shuxia, Dad knows you resent me because of your Aunt Yu’s matter. Yes, Dad mishandled the situation with your Aunt Yu. I shouldn’t have shielded her. She made a mistake and should be punished. Don’t worry, as soon as the company matter is resolved, I will let her repent and reflect in prison honestly. That should appease you, right?” Without waiting for Tang Shuxia’s reply, he changed the subject. “But right now, the company urgently needs capital. As long as you speak to your Grandpa and Uncle, they love you so much, they won’t stand by and watch your mother’s life’s work go to waste. It’s the only thing your mother left behind.”
Tang Shuxia clicked her tongue. She really should record this speech and send it to Yu Huimei.
A couple is like birds in the same forest, flying off separately when disaster strikes.
If Tang Mingcheng had been a man and shielded Yu Huimei to the end, even if he couldn’t be a good father, he could at least be labeled a good husband. Unfortunately, he failed at both.
Tang Shuxia directly interrupted his self-pity. “That’s your life’s work, not Sheng Muxue’s.”
The third floor of her current villa was entirely covered with Sheng Muxue’s paintings. Though she had only glanced at them, she could clearly see that most of the paintings depicted the original host and various cozy corners of their life. What Sheng Muxue truly wanted wasn’t the company’s shares but a home with a husband and a pair of children. Sadly, the man in front of her didn’t understand her at all.
Tang Mingcheng saw that Tang Shuxia still had that indifferent expression. “The 30% of shares you asked for before if you agree, Dad will immediately arrange the transfer procedures. As long as you persuade your Uncle to inject capital, everything you want, yes, including the matter with your little girlfriend. If you truly like her and must be with her, Dad won’t object anymore.”
Tang Shuxia coolly scanned Tang Mingcheng’s face, which was slightly contorted by excitement and looked ugly. She found it incomprehensible. Some fathers would sacrifice their own lives for their daughters, while others would sell their daughters for a bit of profit. Yet, the original host had still hoped to receive a tiny bit of care from such a person.
Tang Shuxia silently pitied the original host for a second.
“Tang Mingcheng, I gave you many chances.”
“What?”
Tang Shuxia had Xu Yujing cooperate with her in acting, not just to contradict or challenge Tang Mingcheng. If Tang Mingcheng cared about his daughter, he would have privately asked her if she truly liked women, instead of using threats to achieve his goal of a marriage alliance.
See, even the marriage alliance was purely for the company’s benefit, for himself.
Tang Shuxia also hoped to fulfill the original host’s expectation of a loving father and obedient child, but unfortunately, Tang Mingcheng was utterly undeserving of being a good father. “That day at the detention center, I asked you what you wanted me to do. Do you remember?”
Tang Mingcheng was momentarily stunned. He hadn’t rested much these past few days due to company affairs. How could he remember what he had said? He couldn’t even recall Tang Shuxia’s question at the time. He instinctively held his head. What did I say? Why can’t I remember?
Tang Shuxia looked at him coldly. “When you learned that your wife had hired someone to harm your own daughter, if you had just asked one single question, a caring one like, ‘Does it hurt?’ I think Tang Shuxia would have been very, very happy. Your daughter was that foolish, that naive of a person.”
All she wanted was that tiny bit of extravagant hope, a little warmth.
Sadly, you never gave it to her.
Tang Mingcheng’s lips moved, but his throat felt clogged, preventing him from making any sound. “Dad, at the time, at the time”
Tang Shuxia finished his sentence for him. “You were busy saving face and busy protecting your wife. No, you can even discard your wife at any moment. You love yourself the most.” After speaking, Tang Shuxia’s lips curled into a wicked smile. “So, Tang Mingcheng, you’ve run out of chances.”
Tang Mingcheng watched helplessly as Tang Shuxia casually waved her hand at him. It looked like a farewell, an end to the past. Tang Mingcheng suddenly felt a huge empty space in his heart, as if something precious had left him.
