As soon as Tang Shuxia and Xu Yujing left, the Tang family house was no longer peaceful.
Tang Mingcheng was furious. “She, she has truly rebelled.”
Yu Huimei shot a look at Tang Wenjing, who was nearby. Tang Wenjing immediately threw herself into Tang Mingcheng’s arms and whined coquettishly, “Daddy, how could you casually agree to give all 35% of the shares to my sister? No, wait, sister already owns 6% of the shares, so that adds up to 41%. I only have 5%. Daddy, you’re really too partial.”
Tang Mingcheng was already infuriated by Tang Shuxia, and his younger daughter’s fussing only fueled his anger. “What are you making a fuss about? Are you not satisfied with 5%?”
Tang Wenjing, having been yelled at, started shedding tears. “Why does my sister have almost half of the Tang Group’s shares? You said the company would be mine when you retire, but you lied. You clearly want to give the company to my sister. She dislikes me and my mother so much; what am I going to do in the future?”
Tang Mingcheng’s head was buzzing from the noise. To make matters worse, Yu Huimei was whispering in his ear, “What does a girl need so many shares for? But Old Tang, have you considered this? If Shuxia’s shareholding truly surpasses yours, the company you worked so hard for most of your life could become a dowry for someone else. And I see Shuxia is currently intent on getting entangled with that person surnamed Xu…”
Tang Wenjing cried and chimed in, “Exactly! If that person surnamed Xu has ulterior motives for our family, then my sister is just leading a wolf into the house.”
Tang Mingcheng knew perfectly well this was a ticking time bomb. He used to think he had Tang Shuxia under control, but a few days ago, Sheng Gaoyang suddenly showed up and warned him. His brother-in-law, whom he hadn’t contacted in over ten years, repeatedly alluded to the favors the Sheng family had done for him back then. Coincidentally, the usually obedient Tang Shuxia seemed to have entered a rebellious phase, contradicting him repeatedly and publicly mentioning the shares left by Sheng Muxue.
Tang Mingcheng narrowed his eyes. “Have you kept all the things Muxue left for Shuxia properly?”
Yu Huimei’s heart skipped a beat, and her composure almost failed her. She hadn’t expected the conversation to suddenly shift from the coming-of-age ceremony to this, a true example of hoisting herself by her own petard. She struggled to maintain a smile that looked as normal as it had in the past. “Of course, Old Tang. I naturally have to keep a careful watch over the things you asked me to look after.” She cautiously gauged Tang Mingcheng’s expression. “Why bring this up suddenly? Are you agreeing to Shuxia and that person surnamed Xu’s”
Tang Mingcheng was indeed touched where it hurt. “What nonsense are you talking about? I don’t care what that person surnamed Xu is plotting, but I will absolutely not allow my daughter to be involved with another woman.”
Yu Huimei wished nothing more than for Tang Shuxia to be more rebellious, to be entangled with that cripple like a vine for the rest of her life, preferably making Tang Mingcheng abandon the idea of marrying her off. “But Shuxia doesn’t seem to think that way.”
Tang Mingcheng spoke with a knowing air, “She’s just finding someone to provoke me and throw a tantrum. Given time, she’ll naturally come to her senses. Right, take out those dowry items first to appease her.”
Yu Huimei’s hand trembled, and the glass cup on the coffee table fell and shattered into pieces. “What?”
Tang Mingcheng was almost developing a stress disorder from the recent sound of breaking glass. “What’s wrong with you? You’re becoming clumsy now.” He finished, then felt his reaction was excessive. He softened his tone. “I told you to take out the things Muxue left for Shuxia. I’ll stabilize her first, so she doesn’t keep fighting with me and cause trouble with the Sheng family. Once the company matter is resolved, I’ll talk to her properly.”
Yu Huimei frantically cleaned up, even cutting her finger on a glass shard due to lack of concentration. She bled quite a bit.
Tang Mingcheng was also mentally exhausted. “Bandage it yourself. Remember to disinfect it.”
After Tang Mingcheng left, Tang Wenjing said, “Mom, what should we do? We sold quite a lot of those things. Where are we going to conjure them up for Dad now?”
Yu Huimei was also flustered but managed to stabilize herself. “Shut up! Wipe that expression off your face. If your dad notices anything off, your good life is over.”
Tang Wenjing immediately pouted. Thinking about it, all the mess in the house was caused by the troublemaker Tang Shuxia. “Tang Shuxia is such a plague! Why didn’t those people smash her to death last time? They’re all useless, throwing tomatoes! They should have thrown bricks!”
Yu Huimei, “Stop it. If your dad hears that, he’ll feel sorry for her again.”
Tang Wenjing immediately stopped talking.
After repeatedly cautioning her, Yu Huimei tidied herself up and rushed out.
“When did you become interested in jade and gemstones?” Xie Jinzhi asked when she came to deliver the revised program script, seeing Tang Shuxia looking through photos on her phone. She looked over and immediately leaned in. “Wow, this must be the legendary Imperial Green! It’s so vivid green; just looking at it makes one feel refreshed.”
Tang Shuxia, “Is it very valuable?”
Xie Jinzhi’s eyes widened. “Of course it’s valuable! Extremely, extremely valuable! Selling both you and me wouldn’t be enough to buy even one small piece of this. But the one in your photo is quite large. A piece that size would be worth tens of millions, no, no, I was wrong. It’s probably more, maybe hundreds of millions.”
Tang Shuxia’s spirits lifted instantly. She had only felt that Yu Huimei looked very flustered and guilty when she mentioned the coming of age ceremony. Yu Huimei kept subconsciously covering her sleeve, and if Tang Shuxia hadn’t mistaken it, she was wearing a green gemstone bracelet on her wrist at the time.
And just like that, she uncovered something interesting.
Tang Shuxia instantly calculated the value and then asked, “If someone were to steal an Imperial Green thumb ring this size, what would the punishment be according to the criminal law?”
Xie Jinzhi was stunned for a moment, as she hadn’t majored in law. “The punishment would definitely be heavy. I remember theft is judged according to the amount stolen. The larger the amount, the longer the time spent in the big house? But I don’t know the specifics. Maybe I can ask Lawyer Cao for you? But why are you suddenly asking about this?”
Tang Shuxia, “Curiosity.”
Xie Jinzhi stared at her for a while, then couldn’t help but whisper, “You’re not still thinking about how to convict those people, are you?”
Ever since that unreasonable woman proposed a settlement last time, she felt like Tang Shuxia was obsessed, constantly asking about sentencing standards for jail time… Anyone who didn’t know would think her artist was going back to university to major in judicial studies.
Tang Shuxia put away her phone, picked up Xie Jinzhi’s program script, flipped through it, and a minute later tossed it aside. “I’ve read it. You can leave.”
Xie Jinzhi, “???”
Flipping through it so casually counts as reading? Didn’t she see that this attitude was incredibly perfunctory?
Xie Jinzhi was hurt.
But she had no way of dealing with this capricious little ancestor. Xie Jinzhi lingered for a long time. “Don’t overthink things. Even if we defend our rights, it has to be within the scope of the law. But saying you want her locked up for ten or twenty years is unrealistic. Things outside of that scope… don’t be too obsessed.”
Tang Shuxia ignored her, poking at her phone, seemingly replying to someone’s message.
[Sheng Gaoyang: Why do you suddenly need your mother’s dowry list? Is something wrong?]
[Sheng Gaoyang: Don’t let yourself be wronged. If anything happens, be sure to tell your uncle. Your uncle and grandparents will support you.]
[Tang: Something is a little wrong. I’ll call you then.]
Sheng Gaoyang couldn’t sit still after seeing this. He paced back and forth in the room with his phone. She asked for his sister’s dowry list and said something was wrong…
Meanwhile, Zhang Zeyang was meticulously reporting to Xu Yujing, “Miss Tang gave me a sum of money to hire a few competent private investigators to fully track Tang Mingcheng’s current wife, Yu Huimei where she goes and who she meets.”
Xu Yujing raised her head from a stack of documents without surprise. “Are there any results yet?”
Zhang Zeyang had indeed received some news. He opened his mouth, seeming hesitant to speak.
Xu Yujing, “Speak.”
Zhang Zeyang felt he was enduring too much. Why had he, a dignified senior assistant, been reduced to running errands for others? Checking data was one thing, but now he was also, “Miss Tang said my efficiency was acceptable and asked me to use any means necessary to get a confession from the person in jail, whether by coercion, inducement, or, if absolutely necessary, some special methods. She also specifically instructed me not to leave any evidence.” After saying this, Zhang Zeyang was hesitant and coy, like a young bride, and added, “She also said that if I accidentally get caught, it would mean I was stupid, and she wouldn’t save me.”
Xu Yujing suddenly laughed. “She really said that?”
More than that! Zhang Zeyang was about to complain when he saw Xu Yujing smiling brightly and looking very happy.
Zhang Zeyang, “???”
His boss’s reaction was not what he expected.
His heart felt like it was smashed into two pieces on the floor. His boss really forgot about him after getting a girlfriend. Righteously indignant, he revealed Tang Shuxia’s lesser known side, hoping his boss would clearly see what kind of person his little girlfriend truly was. “Not only that, Miss Tang also threatened me. If I get exposed and dare to confess anything about her, she has ways to make me… wish I were dead.”
Xu Yujing’s smile grew even wider. “Did they talk?”
Zhang Zeyang, “…Yes, they talked.”
Xu Yujing nodded with satisfaction. “Pass the results on to her. You did well this time. There’ll be a bonus at the end of the month.”
Zhang Zeyang instantly became energetic. He felt that everything before was worth it. An occasional errand or two for his boss’s girlfriend didn’t seem like much, especially since some people didn’t even have that privilege.
