- Chapter 21 - A Kiss
Tang Shuxia leaned closer, lifting her chin and pouting her red lips, urging, “Smell it, quick.”
The jar of disguised honey was so sweet and fragrant. Tang Shuxia was thoroughly amused watching Xi Qingshu tearfully eat the chili sauce while trying to look joyful for the camera. The sight of Xi Qingshu’s stiff, distorted face her “happy” face turning into a grimace had made Tang Shuxia so happy that she ate quite a bit herself. As a result, she now exuded a sweet fragrance, inside and out, especially within the confined space of the car where the sweetness lingered at the tip of Xu Yujing’s nose.
All Xu Yujing could see were the slightly parted red lips, opening and closing, seemingly extending a silent invitation. As she instinctively drew closer, she caught the familiar sweet scent. But this wasn’t the floral scent she remembered from Tang Shuxia that night.
She shivered, and a sliver of clarity broke through her daze. She met Tang Shuxia’s half smiling eyes. Even the red lips, which had seemed so alluring moments ago, now curved with a hint of wickedness, like a deadly poison wrapped around a sweet candied fruit, luring her into a carefully set trap.
“Clang.”
Zhang Zeyang’s document bag accidentally hit his own foot. Without turning his head, he mumbled, “Sorry, sorry, I didn’t see anything, please continue.”
After saying this, he couldn’t help but tap his own head. When he got into the car, he heard Tang Shuxia saying “Xu Yujing, smell me” and other such bold remarks. If it had been anyone else, he wouldn’t have reacted so strongly, but how dare Tang Shuxia speak so lightly to his Miss?
He couldn’t help but sneak a peek in the rearview mirror. He expected his Miss to be displeased, but instead, he caught sight of two small heads drawing closer, the atmosphere sickeningly sweet. He may not have experienced romance, but he wasn’t blind. They looked exactly like a couple meeting after a long separation, unable to control their desire for intimate contact.
So, when his Miss sent him to help Tang Shuxia and had him waiting here early, claiming they were going to meet the family, was it all because she had a crush on her!?
Zhang Zeyang felt like he had uncovered a major secret. He quietly sank lower in his seat, not daring to make a sound, trying hard to minimize his presence.
Xu Yujing leaned in and sniffed Tang Shuxia’s cheek. The moment their breaths mingled, she braced her hand and put distance between them. “What did you eat? It’s very fragrant.”
A trace of confusion flashed in Tang Shuxia’s eyes. “A certain brand of chili sauce. Have you had it?”
Xu Yujing replied, “No.”
Tang Shuxia clicked her tongue in regret.
The sweetness of the honey still lingered on her lips. In a good mood, she crossed her legs and leisurely looked at the chili sauce jar placed in the middle of the seat. There was about half a bottle left. “Xu Yujing, don’t you think it’s strange that someone would treat me to honey?”
Xu Yujing continued to look straight ahead at her document file. The document was filled with dense English, but she couldn’t register a single character.
Tang Shuxia didn’t seem to expect an answer and spoke to herself, “It’s a shame, though, that I don’t know who this person is. Xu Yujing, who do you think would be so bored as to show up at a place like this so early in the morning?”
Xu Yujing suggested, “A fan?”
A fan?
The fans she had seen were all fair-weather friends, easily swayed. Look at Mu Yingying’s downfall.
Tang Shuxia didn’t believe she had any fans who would know she was filming for a certain chili sauce here. The people at the company were out of the question; it was already merciful that they didn’t replace the jar’s contents with poison. She wasn’t close with the chili sauce staff either. For someone to swap her jar’s sauce without anyone knowing, and replace it with honey that had a similar color, it couldn’t have been done on the spur of the moment. It was clearly premeditated.
Her endorsement deal had only been finalized two days ago, and the contract was signed in a hurry.
But this kind-hearted person must have had a clear grasp of her movements. How coincidental right now, there was someone in the car who knew her whereabouts and the details of her endorsement.
The person who had gone to all that effort maintained a normal expression, but her heartbeat nervously skipped two beats. She had to admit, for a second, she was tempted by the person in front of her.
She’s a little temptress.
Tang Shuxia suddenly changed the subject. “Xu Yujing, are you my fan?”
Xu Yujing didn’t answer immediately.
Tang Shuxia didn’t press, just smiled and watched her.
A rare look of confusion appeared on Xu Yujing’s face. “What are the requirements for becoming your fan?”
This question stumped Tang Shuxia. Her memory felt deficient regarding this kind of knowledge; the original owner didn’t follow celebrities. “I’ll let you know after I’ve researched it.”
Xu Yujing nodded, then returned her focus to the document. Meanwhile, Zhang Zeyang in the front seat was utterly baffled.
What fan?
How did she become a fan?
Were they planning to do a ‘fan-relationship’ act???
Were these two playing things too wildly?
Tang Shuxia tried to probe again. She held back, but finally, unable to contain her curiosity, she leaned over. Xu Yujing let her look openly. Tang Shuxia felt mentally exhausted after a short while. Although the written language in this world was simplified, the number of languages had increased. English, Japanese, German…
In short, a pile of things that gave her a headache.
“Xu Yujing, don’t you get bored looking at these things every day?”
“It’s alright.”
Xu Yujing guessed she was bored, so she closed the file. “The data you asked for, Xiao Zhang has already sent it to you.”
Tang Shuxia’s spirits lifted. “Let me borrow your laptop.”
Xu Yujing handed over the laptop and turned to look outside. Zhang Zeyang, sitting in front, shifted restlessly in his seat. His Miss was truly indulgent towards this Miss Tang. She lent her the laptop immediately. This laptop contained a lot of confidential documents; normally, even he couldn’t touch it.
How was it that for Tang Shuxia, everything was permissible!
And the information about the Tang family recent events were easy to find, but anything twenty years ago was difficult. His Miss had made him work overtime and insisted on having it today.
Thinking about pulling an all-nighter and then having to wait at Tang Shuxia’s workplace early in the morning, Zhang Zeyang felt a pang of bitterness.
Tang Shuxia skimmed through the information quickly. Finally, she let out a cold laugh. “No wonder.”
Xu Yujing saw her close the laptop and followed up, “What’s wrong?”
The original owner’s relationship with the Tang family was far from harmonious. She had quarreled with Tang Mingcheng many times, and with Tang Wenjing and Yu Huimei stirring up trouble, the father-daughter relationship was more strained than most. She only remembered one time the family had a peaceful meal together, and that was before the original owner entered the entertainment industry. However, that meal also ended unhappily. Tang Mingcheng even ordered the original owner not to use the Tang family’s resources and not to come back for help if she ran into trouble.
To save face, the original owner had always worked hard, until the scandal involving Cheng Zeyu and Mu Yingying’s affair erupted…
Even so, the original owner never sought help from the Tang family, never opened her mouth to her father, Tang Mingcheng, and never even placed a call.
Tang Shuxia admired the original owner’s integrity, but she thought it was too foolish. Sometimes, a person’s rightful interests should be retrieved in full, without losing a single cent. For instance, the coming-of-age gift left by the original owner’s mother should have been transferred to the original owner on her eighteenth birthday.
But…
Yu Huimei used the excuse that Tang Shuxia was too young, easily tempted by outsiders, and feared she would be conned by unscrupulous men, allowing Tang Mingcheng, the nominal guardian, to justifiably occupy the original owner’s mother’s assets. Because of the death of her mother and brother, the original owner had cut ties with her maternal relatives. With no one to support her, she was completely at Tang Mingcheng’s mercy.
The only thing she did against her father’s wishes was to enter the entertainment industry.
Tang Shuxia was shocked by what she read. Now she understood why Tang Mingcheng suddenly brought up the original owner’s marriage, urgently wanting to arrange an engagement for her, even going so far as to threaten her with her mother’s relics. It turned out the Tang Group’s capital chain had recently run into problems, and he suddenly remembered he had this grown daughter who could be used for a marriage alliance. It was truly a case of killing two birds with one stone. “He’s certainly played a clever hand.”
If it were the original owner, she might have followed the path Tang Mingcheng had planned, step-by-step, and married Xu Heng.
Unfortunately, she was not the original owner.
Tang Mingcheng wanted an obedient puppet, but he had likely misjudged his target.
Xu Yujing saw the mischievous smile on her face. “Is there anything you need me to do?”
Tang Shuxia replied, “You? Just be my little girlfriend.”
Zhang Zeyang exclaimed, “!!!”
Little… little girlfriend?
He felt that term was completely unrelated to his Miss. Furthermore, in no way did his Miss look like she should be the little girlfriend.
After Tang Mingcheng was discharged from the hospital, he stayed home for two more days. Moreover, his misfortune had led to a comprehensive checkup in the hospital, where he was diagnosed with a fatty liver. This frightened Yu Huimei and Tang Wenjing, who had been showering him with double the care from his wife and daughter over the past two days, nearly forgetting about his unfilial daughter, Tang Shuxia.
“She actually remembered to come back.”
“Dad, big sister didn’t come back alone, she brought someone with her.”
Tang Wenjing tattled with a touch of schadenfreude, though trying not to be too obvious.
The last time at the hotel, Tang Shuxia revealed she liked women, which ruined the arranged meeting with Xu Heng. Tang Wenjing had been happy for days. Just now, she saw Tang Shuxia return from upstairs, so she hid nearby to watch, and then discovered Tang Shuxia had brought someone back.
It wasn’t just Tang Wenjing who was stunned; Zhang Zeyang was too.
Tang Shuxia smoothly picked up Xu Yujing in a princess carry and gestured for him to unfold the wheelchair from the trunk. Xu Yujing was already accustomed to this, wrapping her arms around the other’s neck and leaning affectionately into Tang Shuxia’s embrace. They cooperated so seamlessly that even Zhang Zeyang was impressed, concluding that his Miss truly liked this Miss Tang, otherwise, why would she allow such close proximity?
Tang Shuxia bent down to place her in the wheelchair. Just as she was about to straighten up,
Xu Yujing gently pulled her closer. Under Tang Shuxia’s questioning gaze, she naturally leaned in and kissed her cheek.
Zhang Zeyang cried out, “!!!”
He covered his eyes in agony. Save me, is this something I should be seeing?
