Chapter 5: Utopia It’s Normal for Friends to Do These Things
Coming out of the bathroom, Fang Ran felt as if he were treading on cotton, light and floating. His whole being was like a strawberry daifuku white with a flush of pink showing through.
He threw himself directly onto the bed, letting out a puppy-like “Awoo” and burying his head under the quilt.
The scenes from the bathroom just now still replayed in his mind.
The man’s fingers were so long. He remembered how good they looked holding a fountain pen back in school, but now they seemed quite wicked; Fang Ran had clearly shed tears and said he didn’t want any more.
Yet Huo Yan wouldn’t let him go.
He stared into Fang Ran’s eyes, saying the most erotic things in the flattest tone: “Ranran, has it been a long time since you’ve done this?”
Fang Ran was truly about to cry.
Anxious and angry, he snapped, “How long it’s been… don’t you know?”
Huo Yan smiled, his dark eyes rippling like a disturbance in an ancient well.
“My apologies. It’s been ten years; I’ve truly forgotten this matter.”
The man apologized with his mouth, but his actions remained willful, coaxing Fang Ran perfunctorily: “Eating venison brings internal heat; otherwise, you wouldn’t sleep well tonight.”
Is that how it works?
Fang Ran didn’t understand such things and was easily deceived.
Under the stream of the shower, amidst the rising steam, a layer of mist covered Fang Ran’s eyes. He couldn’t quite see the expression on the man’s face anymore; it felt a bit fierce, as if the man wanted to swallow him whole when he looked up at him.
The man’s clothes were soaked through, clinging to his body, becoming almost transparent.
Fang Ran blinked his eyes. For some unknown reason, his face inexplicably felt hot. He averted his gaze, bit his lip, and whispered, “Do… Do you want me to help you?”
They both ate the venison; why didn’t Huo Yan have a reaction like his?
The man’s gaze darkened, falling deeply upon Fang Ran. After two seconds, he whispered, “No need.”
If Ranran helped him, he was afraid he wouldn’t be able to restrain himself from doing even more excessive things.
Huo Yan gave Fang Ran a quick rinse, wrapped him in a bath towel, and sent him out. Fang Ran was dazed and completely failed to notice what he had left behind.
Closing the door, Huo Yan’s gaze fell upon the white underwear placed in the basin to one side.
His breathing grew a few degrees heavier.
Ranran.
My baby.
It took another half hour before Huo Yan walked out of the bathroom.
Fang Ran had already wrapped himself in the quilt and fallen asleep.
He truly was tired; after all, they had done it three times in a row. By the last time, it was so clear there was nothing left.
Huo Yan approached, staring deeply at Fang Ran with lowered eyes, then bent down to press a gentle kiss on the corner of his lips.
…
Following the events of the previous night, Fang Ran was awkward all the next day. Whenever his eyes met Huo Yan’s, he would immediately look away.
The man frowned almost imperceptibly.
Liu Ma baked a tray of egg tarts. Huo Yan carried them over to Fang Ran. “Do you want to go to the orphanage?”
As expected, Fang Ran immediately perked up, his eyes lighting up. “Can we go?”
Huo Yan gave a soft chuckle. “You can go if you want to.”
After speaking, he raised his hand again to brush the hair off Fang Ran’s forehead. “What’s wrong? Did I make you uncomfortable yesterday? Are you mad at me?”
Fang Ran’s face instantly turned red again.
He stammered, “N-no, it’s not that.”
Huo Yan insisted on praying: “Then why is it?”
Fang Ran turned his head away, bit his lip, and scratched his head. “I just feel like… even between brothers, doing that kind of thing is…”
“I almost forgot, your thoughts are still stuck ten years ago.” Huo Yan interrupted with a smile. “It’s 2027 now; you’ve turned into an old fogey.”
Huh???
What does that mean???
Fang Ran’s eyes widened slightly.
Huo Yan’s tone was very natural. “Your mind should be more open. What does this even count as? It’s very normal between friends.”
Ah…
Has the world become this open in ten years?
Fang Ran asked doubtfully, “Is… is that so?”
“Of course.” Huo Yan smiled. “You’ll get used to it after doing it a few more times.”
A few more times?!
Fang Ran was struck with horror.
Huo Yan felt an itch in his heart seeing him like this; he reached out and ruffled Fang Ran’s hair again. “Go change your clothes. We’re going to the orphanage.”
Fang Ran immediately bounced off the sofa. “Okay!”
He was always so energetic, running upstairs with a deng-deng-deng sound.
Huo Yan watched his back with a smile. As Fang Ran’s figure receded, the smile on his face faded bit by bit.
Avoiding him?
Not obedient.
He could least tolerate Fang Ran’s avoidance. It made the desires in his heart clamor to lock Ranran up, to chain him, so he could never avoid him again.
…
Being able to return to the orphanage made Fang Ran quite happy, but at the same time, he felt a faint worry fearful that the orphanage had changed too much and he wouldn’t recognize it.
While sitting in the car, he leaned against the window. Looking at the scenery outside, everything felt unrecognizable.
Since time-traveling, he had stayed in the villa and never stepped out. Seeing the high-rises springing up on both sides of the road, it felt like this was no longer the S City he knew.
“Did the orphanage move?”
After driving for a while, Fang Ran realized something was wrong and asked belatedly.
Huo Yan gave an “Mm.” “It changed locations. The original site was demolished; it’s a school now.”
Fang Ran opened his mouth slightly as if to say something, but in the end, he closed it dejectedly.
He wanted to ask: Does anyone still remember me?
Not long after, the car stopped at the gate. Huo Yan came over to open the door for him, saying softly, “Take a look. Is it still the orphanage in your memory?”
Of course not.
Fang Ran stared in shock at the rows of high-rise buildings before him, murmuring, “The change is too huge.”
Walking further, he saw a crowd waiting at the orphanage gate. The leader was a familiar face. His eyes widened. “Auntie Zhao!”
Huo Yan explained in a timely manner, “The director retired. Auntie Zhao is the person in charge of the orphanage now.”
Ah.
Actually, Fang Ran’s impression of his Auntie Zhao was mediocre.
She was somewhat sharp-tongued and snobbish, and hadn’t been very kind to Fang Ran. However, among the people present, only Auntie Zhao was a familiar face, which brought a slight sense of closeness.
Unexpectedly, Auntie Zhao was extremely enthusiastic upon seeing him. She grabbed his arm and talked incessantly. “Oh, Ranran, you haven’t changed at all! Auntie has missed you so much all these years. Come, come, Auntie will take you around. The environment of our orphanage is wonderful now.”
She didn’t ask curiously where Fang Ran had been all these years, nor did she mention why Fang Ran still looked the same after ten years. She simply chatted with him warmly about daily life and childhood stories.
She even took Fang Ran to see the newly built dormitory building.
“Wow, it’s so new, so good. Much better than our dormitory back then.”
Fang Ran tugged at Huo Yan’s sleeve. “Do you remember? Our dorm heating wasn’t good in the winter, so I would run over to sleep in the same quilt as you.”
Huo Yan had a smile on his lips. “You have the nerve to say that? You came over to steal my quilt and even kicked me off the bed in the middle of the night.”
Fang Ran smiled sheepishly. “I’m a restless sleeper.”
“Indeed. You always love to kick off the covers.”
But it didn’t matter. Huo Yan would always help him tuck them back in.
He did then, he did now, and he would in the future.
After a tour, Fang Ran excitedly asked if he could eat in the cafeteria here. Auntie Zhao naturally said yes and led them over.
Fang Ran, like an enthusiastic puppy, charged toward the cafeteria. Auntie Zhao deliberately fell a step behind, walking beside Huo Yan.
She wore a flattering smile. “President Huo, about next quarter’s sponsorship…”
“If you make Ranran happy, I’ll transfer next year’s along with it,” Huo Yan said flatly.
He looked up, watching the joyful Fang Ran ahead.
If Ranran wanted to come to the orphanage, he would build an orphanage exactly as Ranran remembered it. If Ranran wanted to see friends, he would arrange for “friends” to come.
Huo Yan could construct whatever utopia Fang Ran desired.
As long as Ranran didn’t leave him.
“A-Yan, hurry up!” Fang Ran called to him from ahead.
Auntie Zhao saw Huo Yan’s face transform instantly; a gentle smile appeared, and his tone became mild.
“Coming.”
He took two steps forward, then paused slightly, looking back at Auntie Zhao with indifferent eyes.
“Watch your mouth. Don’t say a single word that shouldn’t be said.”
Auntie Zhao nodded repeatedly in haste.
Huo Yan reminded her expressionlessly:
“Smile.”
“Don’t spoil Ranran’s mood.”
