After I Died, My Childhood Friend Became Daddy - Chapter 28
Chapter 28: Wife
Fang Ran was jolted awake by his alarm at six in the morning.
In his senior year of high school, he used to wake up this early, but after a summer of indulgence, he really found it difficult to crawl out of bed.
It wasn’t until the others in the dormitory started getting up and tidying things that he finally struggled to rise, stumbling along.
After washing up, he finally felt a bit more awake. Just as Fang Ran finished changing his clothes, Huo Yan’s phone call came through.
“Baby, are you up?”
The man’s voice was incredibly gentle; even coming through the receiver, it felt like it carried a tiny electric current, making Fang Ran feel tingly and numb.
Fang Ran gave a mumble in response and let out a yawn.
“Be good. You must eat breakfast. Go to the cafeteria; I’ll send lunch over to you at noon.”
“No need, I’ll go to the cafeteria at noon too.”
In the time it took to exchange those few words, Fang Ran saw his roommates had already finished packing and were ready to head out. He said hurriedly, “I have to go, talk later.”
Huo Yan frowned. He had only just said a few words to his baby.
He gave lingering instructions, “If you’re hot or tired, ask for leave to rest. If it really doesn’t work out, call me and we’ll go home. No more military training, my precious baby…”
Before he could finish, Fang Ran hung up the phone.
Huo Yan: “…”
The cafeteria army in the morning was dense and packed. Fang Ran had to pick a window with fewer people and bought two steamed buns to make do.
It couldn’t compare to the breakfast Auntie Liu made at home, but Fang Ran still ate with gusto and even happily took a photo to send to Huo Yan.
Little did he know that seeing it only made Huo Yan more anxious.
Eating just that—can there be any nutrition in it?
Ranran’s health was already poor to begin with.
At home, Auntie Liu would always cook various dishes for him to rotate through.
And with the big sun lately, being exposed outside, who knew what he would look like?
The more Huo Yan thought about it, the more irritable he became. The secretary went in several times to deliver documents, and seeing President Huo’s icy gaze, felt a chill run down their spine.
He barely endured the whole morning. Finally, at noon, Huo Yan couldn’t wait any longer and placed a video call to Fang Ran.
Dismissed just for the noon break, Fang Ran wasn’t in a rush to go to the cafeteria. He found a shaded spot to rest, which was perfect for the video call with Huo Yan.
Looking at the camera, seeing Fang Ran’s face flushed red from the sun, Huo Yan felt deep heartache. “Baby, I’ll help you ask for leave. Let’s not do the military training anymore.”
Fang Ran frowned. “No! You promised me—it’s only these two weeks.”
Huo Yan didn’t want to fight with Fang Ran, so he settled for the next best thing. “Then I’ll send food to you, okay? You don’t eat well in the cafeteria; food from home is more nutritious.”
Fang Ran still shook his head. “Since I’m living in the dorm, let’s not make a fuss. It’s only for a few days.”
Although when the two were together, Huo Yan was usually the more assertive one, Fang Ran also had a very stubborn streak; once he set his mind on something, he wouldn’t change it. Huo Yan couldn’t bear to make him angry, so most of the time, he was the one who yielded.
After hanging up, Huo Yan could no longer restrain himself and dialed the secretary’s internal line.
“Didn’t we receive a batch of speaking invitations from universities a few days ago?”
…
The days of military training were indeed bitter. Especially after transmigrating back, Fang Ran had been raised to be quite delicate by Huo Yan. Not only did he do no work at home, but tasks like dressing and washing up were often handled by Huo Yan.
Although he was a bit unaccustomed at first, fortunately, Fang Ran had grown up suffering since childhood, so he soon got used to it. Every day, besides the scheduled drills and training, he was busy snatching food at the cafeteria and finding time to call Huo Yan.
On Wednesday, it rained, and they couldn’t do outdoor drills. Initially, they thought they could have a good rest, but they unexpectedly received a notice to attend a lecture.
“Shouldn’t juniors and seniors be the ones listening? Why call us there?”
His roommates were discussing it, but Fang Ran was too sleepy; he didn’t hear a single word clearly, leaning back in his chair and falling asleep dizzily.
When the lecture started, he was practically dragged there by his roommates.
The largest meeting room in the school was overcrowded, with many people even squeezed outside. Fang Ran was somewhat surprised; he hadn’t expected a lecture to be so popular.
He squeezed in with his roommates and sat down according to his seat number, not expecting the position to be quite near the front.
Fang Ran, however, was a bit unhappy.
There was no way to slack off and sleep now.
He took out his phone and realized that the message he sent to Huo Yan at noon had not yet been replied to by the man.
Fang Ran pursed his lips and poked Huo Yan’s avatar twice.
[Where are you?] [Cat peeking.]
Suddenly hearing a burst of enthusiastic applause around him, Fang Ran was startled and quickly flipped his phone over.
He never expected that the person he was just chatting with on his phone would actually appear before him at this moment.
Fang Ran’s eyes grew round, looking at the man in disbelief.
???
Why was Huo Yan here?
The man was in formal attire. The silver-gray suit made his figure look upright and tall, and he rarely wore a pair of gold-rimmed glasses, looking uncharacteristically refined and scholarly.
He naturally spotted Fang Ran at a glance, his lips curling up slightly.
Fang Ran heard his roommate beside him speak in shock, “It’s actually President Huo. I heard he never participates in school lectures like this.”
Fang Ran silently lowered his head.
What could he say?
He couldn’t exactly say that Huo Yan was here to see his wife.
Wait!
Why did he say “wife”?
Fang Ran paused, his face turning a bit red.
Argh, it was all Huo Yan’s fault for calling him that all the time; he had actually gotten used to it himself.
Huo Yan’s lecture was not boring; he even linked together several cases from his company. Throughout the entire lecture, the applause was thunderous.
When it ended, his roommates packed up their things to leave, not expecting to see Fang Ran still sitting in his original spot.
“Eh? Fang Ran, let’s go.”
Fang Ran waved them off, saying vaguely, “Uh, you guys go back first.”
Once most people had left, Fang Ran quietly slipped out the back door. Who knew that just as he turned a corner, in the dark corridor, he was suddenly pulled by the waist and pressed against the wall.
Before he could react, the man had already kissed him forcefully.
They hadn’t seen each other for several days. Heaven knew how Huo Yan had endured it, relying on a few items of clothing Fang Ran had left behind which vaguely carried a bit of Fang Ran’s scent to barely struggle through.
Huo Yan’s breathing was slightly heavy, kissing Fang Ran with such force it was as if he wanted to eat him whole.
Who would have thought? In a dark corner, a CEO who had just been giving a speech on stage and a student who had been sitting below listening would be kissing so passionately in a place where no one was around.
Fang Ran couldn’t quite bear it and tried to hide back. He was supported by his butt by Huo Yan, lifted up a bit, his white sneakers stepping on Huo Yan’s leather shoes, his head tilted back, obediently enduring it.
Fang Ran was still wearing his camouflage uniform, while Huo Yan was in a sharp suit. The contrast between the two was great, yet they seemed so well-matched.
Between breaths, Huo Yan finally let him go. Fang Ran panted slightly, burying his head in Huo Yan’s chest, his voice muffled, “Why are you here?”
Huo Yan lowered his head and couldn’t resist kissing the tip of his nose again. “I missed you, so I came.”
He lifted Fang Ran’s chin, looking greedily at every part of Fang Ran’s face. “Baby, I really missed you so much. Come back with me.”
Fang Ran gave his chest a push. “Didn’t you secretly take my underwear?”
Huo Yan: “…You found out?”
