- Chapter 90 - Breaking the Sea and Entering the Abyss
Inside the Morning Twilight City Lord’s Manor, Prince Ning , with his arm just reattached, offered a cup of tea to Qiu Fuxue with a plastered-on, apologetic smile.
“Sect Leader Qiu, it’s my fault. I was too drunk and didn’t see it was you… Don’t hold a grudge, okay? We even played together when we were kids.”
Qiu Fuxue didn’t take his tea. “I don’t remember ever meeting you.”
“Oh, come on…” Prince Ning scratched his head. “You always had a stern face back then. Besides that little Junior Brother of yours, who dared to get close to you? I wanted to play with you, but you ignored me…”
To maintain their relationship with the immortal sects, the imperial court often sent some of their princes to cultivate in a sect for a year or so when they were children. But it was more of a formality. They were mostly fed well and had a good time before leaving.
Qiu Fuxue genuinely didn’t remember Prince Ning. When he was a child, his mind was focused solely on cultivation and nothing else.
“Basically, you just met once. You should’ve picked a better excuse to get close to him.” Jiufang Cangze mercilessly exposed him, still stewing over the incident from earlier.
Now that he had finally gotten his “wife,” his possessiveness was especially strong. He couldn’t bear to let anyone else touch him.
“Look at you!” Prince Ning’s arm ached just from hearing his voice. He had been so ruthless.
“Ahem…” Lan Shiyi coughed softly, worried the prince would keep digging his own grave. “Your Highness Prince Ning came for the Princess. My apologies for him offending Sect Leader Qiu.”
Qiu Fuxue was already used to running into a few unthinking rogues like this every month. “It’s fine. Are you here to take the Princess back, Your Highness?”
“How could I!” Prince Ning blurted out, clearing his name. “I would never, ever, send my little sister back to that bastard!”
“Pfft—!” Lan Shiyi nearly choked on his tea. “Cough, cough, cough… Your Highness, mind your words!”
The succession to the throne was a fierce struggle, and it was normal for Prince Ning to dislike the current emperor. But as mortals, if they were to speak so carelessly, it could bring them to ruin with the world being divided between the imperial family and the immortal sects.
But Jiufang Cangze liked this kind of rebellious attitude. He finally looked at Prince Ning properly. “I didn’t think you had it in you! How about I go kill the emperor and put you on the throne?”
Jing An let out a quiet, “Huh?” She felt like she had heard that before.
Prince Ning slapped his thigh, as if he had found a kindred spirit. The animosity between him and Jiufang Cangze vanished as they began to talk passionately.
Qiu Fuxue had a headache. He felt like the world was about to fall into chaos, and he was losing his mind, too.
The atmosphere gradually grew lively. To make up for his reckless drunken behavior, Prince Ning invited Qiu Fuxue to take a ride on his newly built pleasure boat the next day.
To enter the deep sea to find the god statue, they had to take a boat to the center of the ocean. If Prince Ning could take them part of the way, it would save them some spiritual power.
Qiu Fuxue immediately agreed.
Jiufang Cangze’s heart fluttered in his chest. He was very moved, thinking that A-Xue wanted to go on a romantic boat ride with him.
But early the next morning, after his clothes were stuffed with talismans and a water-avoiding bead was forcefully tied to him, Jiufang Cangze felt like A-Xue didn’t want to get romantic; he just wanted to go on an adventure.
“We haven’t properly explored Morning Twilight City yet! Are you sure we have to leave now?”
After packing, Qiu Fuxue checked Jiufang Cangze from head to toe. “Once we find the god statue, I’ll take you wherever you want for as long as you want.”
The sun was bright that day. Lan Shiyi and Jing An were also on the boat. After they set sail, Prince Ning lay on the deck’s cushioned seat, with fresh fruits and fine wine beside him, looking very leisurely and content.
“Sect Leader Qiu, what do you think? I spent a fortune to build this boat!”
The boat traveled very smoothly. Qiu Fuxue faced the sea breeze, offering no comment.
But Jiufang Cangze walked around the boat, knocking on everything. “If you modify this boat, it could be used as a warship for a navy.”
“That’s exactly what I was thinking!” Prince Ning’s eyes lit up instantly. “When I assemble my army to rebel, I’ll be sure to invite you!”
Qiu Fuxue twitched his lips and held his forehead in a helpless gesture. Two troublemakers together were just pure chaos.
Sunlight sparkled on the sea, reflecting shiny, little points of light. For a moment, Qiu Fuxue felt that this scene was familiar.
Back then, he was wearing shackles, and his feet were bleeding. He was holding onto his last shred of faith in a place very similar to this, making a deal with the malicious Nine Fiends.
“The Flowing Light River (流光河)…”
Qiu Fuxue murmured. Jiufang Cangze walked to his side, having also noticed the strangeness of the area.
It was too similar.
“How could the Flowing Light River from the demon realm be here?”
Jiufang Cangze put his arm around his shoulder and smiled faintly. “Don’t you already have the answer in your heart, A-Xue?”
“The Nine Fiends?”
Qiu Fuxue summoned his sword spirit. The little spirit circled the sea and found no threatening demonic energy.
Jiufang Cangze grabbed the little hopping spirit. “It’s probably just a reflection. He himself isn’t here.”
“How can we run into the Nine Fiends everywhere we go?” Qiu Fuxue’s initial nervousness had turned into a calm acceptance, like running into a cat or dog on the street.
Jiufang Cangze raised his eyebrows slightly. “Yeah, you’ve got one right beside you.”
He mock-punched him on the shoulder. Qiu Fuxue said with a worried tone, “If it’s just a reflection, I hope he doesn’t interfere with us finding the god statue. We’ll deal with him later.”
Jiufang Cangze’s eyes darted around as he began to play the rogue. “But A-Xue promised he would tour Morning Twilight City with me after we find the god statue.”
The other man’s eyes narrowed. “Oh? You’ve learned to talk back now?”
“…I wouldn’t dare.”
The pleasure boat sailed slowly. After two hours, Qiu Fuxue estimated that they were close enough. He had his sword spirit grow in size, and it carried him into the air.
Prince Ning had a few maids playing music and dancing for him, and he was enjoying himself. Jing An suddenly ran over and patted him. “Brother, look! Sect Leader Qiu is about to perform a spell!”
“Huh?” Prince Ning scrambled up from his seat. Everyone looked up at Qiu Fuxue, who was in mid-air.
The sea breeze made his robe flutter like a blooming white lotus. Qiu Fuxue held a thin but sturdy longsword and swung it, sending out several surges of sword energy. The sea below him created several tumultuous waves before a deep chasm slowly opened up.
Prince Ning shrieked. “Shouldn’t we stop the boat?! We’re going to fall in the chasm!”
“Tsk.” Jiufang Cangze found him annoying. He picked up a piece of fruit and stuffed it in his mouth. “Keep your mouth shut. I’ll protect you!”
Just as he said, the boat stopped a short distance from the abyss, as if an invisible barrier was blocking it.
“A-Xue and I have something to do. You guys should head back.”
With that, Jiufang Cangze flipped over and jumped off the boat. Qiu Fuxue saw him out of the corner of his eye and scolded him for acting recklessly. He flew over, took his hand, and the two of them jumped into the abyss together.
Prince Ning’s mouth hung open in shock at the sight. “If I had stayed and cultivated at the Qianshan Sect, would I have become this powerful, too?”
“…Keep dreaming.”
