- Chapter 86 - The Bamboo Forest, Bones, and Red Robes
The one who opened the door was Jing An with a brilliant smile on her face.
“Sect Leader Qiu, would you like to eat some bamboo?”
Jiufang Cangze crossed his arms, looking completely displeased. “I say, Princess, Immortal Lord Fuxue doesn’t eat mortal food. Can you stop bringing food for no reason? Besides, bamboo isn’t meant for people to eat!”
“But he ate the pastries last time…” The young girl pouted and peeled a stalk of bamboo she was holding. “Look, you can eat bamboo. It has glutinous rice and fruit inside. It’s a specialty of this town.”
Even if there was a demon beast inside, it was none of his business. Jiufang Cangze was about to launch into a big speech, but Qiu Fuxue quickly pushed him aside.
“I’ll have some. Thank you, Princess.”
After successfully delivering the food, Jing An left with a spring in her step. Qiu Fuxue cradled the pile of bamboo, setting them down on the table with a rattle.
He opened a bamboo stalk and took a bite. It was sweet and refreshing. It was indeed delicious.
“Cangze, want a taste?” He turned his head and saw that Jiufang Cangze was still looking very unhappy.
“Does that little girl like you?” The jealous demon said sourly. “She brings you food for no reason and doesn’t even pick a good time!”
Qiu Fuxue’s eyes shifted, intending to provoke him. “What if she does?”
“A-Xue, you…!” His handsome face was practically crumpled in an expression of pure grievance.
After teasing him enough, it was time to comfort him. Qiu Fuxue took some of the peeled glutinous rice and fed it to him. “Even if she has some feelings, I don’t like her.”
With that, he leaned against him and took a deep breath, smiling. “I smell vinegar.”
After being fed a mouthful of sweet rice, Jiufang Cangze looked at his gentle smile and was momentarily lost.
When he was throwing a tantrum, it would have been fine if Qiu Fuxue had hit or scolded him. But being so gentle and coaxing him made him feel guilty.
He wrapped his arms around the person in front of him, and his nose tingled. A teardrop fell. “A-Xue, it’s my fault.”
Qiu Fuxue couldn’t see his expression and could only judge by his slightly choked voice. “No one’s bullying you. Why are you crying?”
“The wind is too strong,” Jiufang Cangze lied with his eyes open.
Facing the table, the green bamboo stalks, even after being steamed, suddenly brought back a memory from his slumber.
The Moon Shadow Wall wasn’t just a simple desert landscape. It also had a lush bamboo forest, and on occasion, he would nap by a tall, green bamboo stalk.
He suddenly released Qiu Fuxue, his eyes still moist with tears, but they couldn’t hide the light that was radiating from them. “A-Xue! I know where the Skeleton is!”
“Huh?” Qiu Fuxue was just indulging in their hard-won sweet romance, but he was suddenly pulled out of the room to handle business.
After some threats and bribes, the innkeeper honestly pointed them in a direction: a bamboo forest to the east of town.
They sent the little sword spirit to scout ahead. On the way, Jiufang Cangze held his head, enduring the pain of jumbled memories rushing through his mind.
Qiu Fuxue could see he was in pain and gently held his hand. “Cangze, do you need my help?”
“I’m fine.” He forced a smile. “You should worry about how to deal with the Skeleton first. His strength is not to be underestimated.”
Qiu Fuxue’s worried gaze remained on him. “We’ll talk about that when we find him. I’m worried you won’t be able to handle it…”
Jiufang Cangze held his hand back. “Don’t worry. I survived without my spiritual core. What is this little pain?”
Just as he finished, the little sword spirit came flying back in a panic, clinging to Qiu Fuxue and talking his ear off.
Qiu Fuxue’s expression changed slightly. He and Jiufang Cangze quickly rushed into the bamboo forest.
They saw the red-robed woman from that night, holding a wailing baby. She was coaxing it with a crazed expression. On the other side, the Skeleton was in an intense fight with Ye Chu and his men.
Summoning his sword, Zhengxin, Qiu Fuxue threw the black gold spear to Jiufang Cangze. “You’re not feeling well. Maybe you should hide?”
But the other man shook his head, indicating he was fine. “Whose side are we on?”
“We’re fighting Ye Chu!” Qiu Fuxue said concisely.
Ye Chu had brought a lot of men, and the Skeleton had used up too much of his magic and was already at a disadvantage. It was at this moment that two figures joined the battle.
Qiu Fuxue’s sword strike was sudden. Ye Chu was caught off guard. Even though he instinctively blocked, he was still forced back a few feet.
The remaining demon soldiers were mostly taken care of with the cooperation of the sword spirit and Jiufang Cangze.
When the Skeleton saw his figure, his two hollow eye sockets seemed to burst with light. “Cangze! I love you!”
Jiufang Cangze and Qiu Fuxue’s hands both trembled at the same time, and they almost dropped their weapons.
Jiufang Cangze held his spear, took out a demon soldier, and yelled in a hoarse voice, “Shut that rotting mouth of yours!!”
Ye Chu looked at Qiu Fuxue with a half-smile. “Sect Leader Qiu, throwing yourself at such a playboy is quite a loss of dignity.”
“None of your business!” Qiu Fuxue took out all his anger on him. His sword strikes became even more ferocious, and the other man could barely keep up.
With a swish, Ye Chu’s sleeve was sliced. He flew up and stood on a bamboo stalk, looking down with a sneer.
—”Qiu Fuxue, you’ll regret this.”
With that, red sparks of fire scattered everywhere, and Ye Chu’s figure disappeared within them.
Jiufang Cangze was exhausted and instantly fell to the ground.
But before Qiu Fuxue could go to him, the Skeleton rushed over and embraced him in a scene of brotherly affection.
“Wuwuwu… Cangze, it’s all my fault… Wuwuwu, I’m the one who harmed you…”
Qiu Fuxue was secretly displeased. He clenched his fists. So “some friendship” was just an understatement.
“I’m not dead yet! Stop acting so disgusting!” Jiufang Cangze grabbed the Skeleton’s arm and pulled it off. He scrambled away from his embrace, not forgetting to throw the arm back afterward.
He had fallen to the ground because he truly couldn’t stand anymore, but he also wanted Qiu Fuxue’s sympathy. Unfortunately, this clueless Skeleton had ruined it.
Qiu Fuxue walked straight to the woman. Her smile was strange. As soon as she saw him approaching, she hugged the baby in her arms and turned to run away. However, she only ran in two circles around a few bamboo stalks and stopped again, humming a creepy tune.
The Skeleton had sensed their arrival long ago, but he had been hesitant to show himself due to their spiritual energy.
The Skeleton reattached his arm and shook the gold dust off himself. “Cangze, when did you wake up?”
Jiufang Cangze looked at Qiu Fuxue and said, “Probably… about twenty years ago.”
The white lotus had bloomed because of his awakening. Qiu Fuxue was only a little over twenty years old.
The Skeleton came over and patted his bald head. “I heard… what happened in the demon realm. Ye Chu is a complete bastard!”
Jiufang Cangze disgustedly pushed his hand off and gestured towards Qiu Fuxue. “You don’t need to comfort me. You should worry about yourself. Sect Leader Qiu won’t go easy on you!”
The Skeleton scratched his bald head. He saw Qiu Fuxue’s sharp gaze turn towards him. “That child is the one who went missing from town.”
