- Chapter 84 - A Stone Tied to the Heart
“Senior Brother, should I send some people to help you?”
“No need, I can handle it for now.” Qiu Fuxue sat at a table as Li Yun’s voice came through the Lingxi stone.
On the other side, Jiufang Cangze was also charming a Lingxi stone with his good looks.
“Your Honor, have you remembered something?”
“A little bit. I remember the Skeleton coming to see me before he left, but I don’t remember what he said.”
Through his own Lingxi stone, Qiu Fuxue heard an echo of Lun Ling’s voice. He narrowed his eyes in displeasure. “A-Yun, is Lun Ling with you?”
Li Yun was silent for a moment, then Lun Ling’s voice came from the other side. “Are you looking for me, Sect Leader Qiu?”
And Jiufang Cangze also heard a clear echo on his end.
“…”
They were so close, there was no need to use four Lingxi stones.
Qiu Fuxue’s face darkened. He confiscated Jiufang Cangze’s Lingxi stone, ending the chaotic echo-fest. “A-Yun, although Ye Chu has appeared here, you must not let your guard down at the Qianshan Sect.”
“Don’t worry, Senior Brother.” As soon as Li Yun finished, the sounds of Xu Wan playing around were heard from his side.
Qiu Fuxue shook his head helplessly, a smile in his eyes. It seemed Xu Wan and Li Yun were getting along well, otherwise Lun Ling wouldn’t have taken a Lingxi stone by himself.
He had said all he needed to say. Just as he was about to end the communication, he suddenly heard Li Yun say, “Oh, right, Senior Brother, you…”
“Hmm?” He instinctively stopped what he was doing.
The other person was silent for a moment, then laughed. “Nothing. I’ll tell you when you get back, Senior Brother.”
With that, the light on the stone went out, and he didn’t give Qiu Fuxue a chance to ask further.
Qiu Fuxue stared blankly at the Lingxi stone in front of him. In a trance, he felt as if he had heard a hint of bitterness in Li Yun’s laugh.
Suddenly, a pair of hands was on his shoulders. Jiufang Cangze sat down beside him. “A-Xue, I had a dream while I was asleep, but now that I think about it, it doesn’t seem like a dream.”
Qiu Fuxue put his chaotic thoughts aside for now. “You mean you also have a spiritual body inside the Moon Shadow Wall?”
Jiufang Cangze nodded and took a deep breath. “I was asleep for three thousand years, and that dream lasted for three thousand years. But the memory is too blurry. If I hadn’t seen the Skeleton here, I wouldn’t have even remembered it.”
Qiu Fuxue’s expression was a little crestfallen. He held the hand that was on his shoulder. His lips parted, but he couldn’t seem to speak.
The Nine Fiends were ancient malevolent spirits. He had promised the Primordial God that he would exterminate them all, not leaving a single one.
But…
Jiufang Cangze looked at his hand and subtly raised an eyebrow. “A-Xue, are you trying to kill me?”
Qiu Fuxue was startled and quickly let go. “I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay.” Jiufang Cangze took his hand again. When his hand touched Qiu Fuxue’s wrist, he felt something hard. “Hmm? What’s this…?”
It was the small stone he had picked up by the river, tied with a red string, and bound to the string of red beads.
He suddenly laughed. “It’s not some rare item. The things I gave you before were much more precious than this.”
His hidden thoughts had been exposed. Qiu Fuxue decided not to hide anymore. He relaxed and leaned all his weight against Jiufang Cangze.
He held up his hand. The string of crimson beads and a plain, unremarkable stone were tied together on his slender wrist.
“The value of an item is given by a person. The things you gave me before were rare, but you should also remember what you did to me.”
With his help, Jiufang Cangze recalled his past misdeeds. He pursed his lips in distress. “Then… I’ll use a lifetime to make it up to you.”
“A lifetime, those are just empty words.” Qiu Fuxue slowly lowered his eyelashes. “It’s a pity for me. My feelings hadn’t even awakened, yet I was already taken advantage of by a rascal like you.”
“A-Xue…” Jiufang Cangze was filled with guilt. His lips were slightly parted, but he couldn’t say a single word. At this moment, no amount of apologetic words could make up for his actions.
“I won’t settle.” Qiu Fuxue looked up, his expression serious. “Jiufang Cangze, I admit I have feelings for you, but I need a concrete promise.”
His crimson eyes widened slightly. Jiufang Cangze felt his heart skip a few beats. He couldn’t believe what he had just heard.
A-Xue had feelings for him…
So this is what it feels like to be truly loved.
He snapped out of his dazed state. Jiufang Cangze carefully and sincerely held his hand. “A-Xue, I will seize this opportunity and prove it to you.”
Qiu Fuxue looked up at him, watching his handsome features slowly get closer. Their breaths became intertwined.
It was a light, fleeting kiss, but it was more satisfying than all the passionate kisses they had shared in the past.
Jiufang Cangze changed his position, lifting him into a bridal carry. He performed his habitual action, gently stroking the beauty mark.
Qiu Fuxue wrapped his arms around his neck and looked at him seriously, his eyes filled with a rare tenderness. “You like this place so much?”
“Yes.” Jiufang Cangze didn’t let go. “A-Xue is the most beautiful.”
He lowered his head, wanting to get a second kiss, but was suddenly interrupted by a violent knocking on the door.
In an instant, his arms were empty.
He turned his head stiffly and saw Qiu Fuxue, his clothes neat, sitting calmly at the table sipping tea. If it weren’t for the lingering blush on his cheeks, Jiufang Cangze would have thought it was all a dream.
“He’s that fast…?”
“Bang! Bang! Bang!” There was another round of knocking and a man’s gruff shouting. “Open up! Open up!”
Both their expressions changed slightly. They looked at each other, and Jiufang Cangze got up and opened the door.
A group of officers immediately rushed in.
The one in charge said arrogantly, “Government business!”
Jiufang Cangze hated nothing more than people putting on airs in front of him, especially mortals. He raised his fist, ready to strike.
“What case?” Qiu Fuxue’s voice suddenly came from behind him.
The officer leader glared at Jiufang Cangze, walked around him, and went up to Qiu Fuxue. “It’s classified. Young Master, you’re a reasonable person. Just stay put and don’t move. We’ll leave once we’re done searching.”
Qiu Fuxue put down his teacup and said faintly, “Please, do.”
A few officers searched the room, as if looking for something. They turned over every corner but didn’t make a big mess.
After the search, the officer didn’t seem to have found what he was looking for. He perfunctorily said, “Sorry for the trouble,” and led his men to search the next room.
Lan Shiyi and Jing An’s room were not spared either.
All the rooms in the inn were searched. After the officers left, the guests walked out, looking confused, and discussed noisily.
Jiufang Cangze stood on the porch, looking at his hands, and sighed from the bottom of his heart. “This lord has truly fallen into a mud pit and is being bullied by dogs. Even a bunch of ants dare to glare at me!”
After hearing that, Qiu Fuxue walked up to him and gestured for him to bend over.
The latter leaned in as instructed.
A soft touch on his cheek was gone in an instant. It was a little cool.
Qiu Fuxue’s face was red. He cleared his throat while holding his fist to his mouth. “That’s your reward for not causing trouble.”
His lips curved into a smile uncontrollably. Jiufang Cangze was about to push his luck again when Lan Shiyi and Jing An found them.
“Sect Leader Qiu.” Lan Shiyi had a strong scent of medicine on him. His voice was weak. “I just went to ask around. A child went missing in town, and the officers are searching house by house.”
“A child?” Qiu Fuxue said in surprise. “If it’s a child from an ordinary family, would the officers be so concerned?”
Lan Shiyi gave a bitter smile. “Of course not ordinary. The town has had many missing children over the years, but that family has some influence locally. After they reported it, the government has been searching like crazy.”
Jing An put her hands on her hips, fuming. “The officials treat human life like grass! Are the children of ordinary people not children?”
Jiufang Cangze’s lips curved up. The way he looked at her was different from before. “What the princess said makes sense. If I ever get the chance, I’ll kill the emperor and let you sit on the throne.”
