After Her Death, They Begged for Forgiveness - Chapter 61
Gu Xiaozhou looked at Xiao Hua, who was curled into a ball, then turned her gaze to Jiang Ruo, who was smiling politely. She frowned slightly in confusion.
Xiao Hua was Jiang Ruo’s boyfriend, yet the way he looked at Jiang Ruo was as if he were staring at a terrifying demon.
Was there something wrong with Xiao Hua’s mind? Did he no longer recognize his own girlfriend?
“I went to visit Aunt Xu, and before leaving, I thought I’d check in on your boyfriend.”
Gu Xiaozhou deliberately emphasized the words “boyfriend.”
Jiang Ruo nodded understandingly, her smile tinged with a hint of gratitude. “Sister Xiaozhou, you’re truly kind.”
She then glanced at Xiao Hua, who was still curled up, his face filled with uncontrollable fear. Jiang Ruo couldn’t help but tighten her fingers.
Gu Xiaozhou was still here, she couldn’t let her notice anything unusual.
Jiang Ruo slowly walked toward Xiao Hua, her gaze gentle and considerate. “I’m sorry, I’ve been so busy filming lately that I haven’t had time to visit you.”
She gently took Xiao Hua’s hand and rubbed it softly, her voice tender. “You must have been really excited to see me just now, right?”
Xiao Hua trembled even more violently. He even regretted not listening to Xu Bingqi’s demands earlier.
He glanced at Gu Xiaozhou, but at that moment, Jiang Ruo blocked most of Gu Xiaozhou’s line of sight. Gu Xiaozhou assumed it was just a loving reunion between a couple who hadn’t seen each other for a long time.
In this situation, should she tactfully leave?
“Ruo Ruo, I’ll be going now.”
Gu Xiaozhou had no interest in being a third wheel and discreetly took her leave.
Although she felt there was something off about Xiao Hua’s expression, perhaps it was just some playful dynamic between the young couple.
Gu Xiaozhou thoughtfully closed the door for the affectionate pair.
It seemed Jiang Ruo and Xiao Hua’s relationship was still quite strong. Most likely, Jiang Ruo wouldn’t be bothering Xu Bingqi again anytime soon, right?
After closing the door, Gu Xiaozhou paused for a moment and took out her phone to check if Xu Bingqi had posted any updates. But as soon as she opened Xu Bingqi’s account, she faintly heard a hoarse, agonized scream.
It sounded like Xiao Hua’s voice.
So soon… and so intense?
Gu Xiaozhou’s face instantly flushed bright red, and she quickly hurried away from Xiao Hua’s hospital room.
Jiang Ruo tightened her grip on Xiao Hua’s throat slightly. “Don’t expect anyone to save you. Stop deluding yourself.”
Although Gu Xiaozhou still called her “Ruo Ruo,” indicating she didn’t know what kind of person she really was, she had to take precautions and warn Xiao Hua in advance not to entertain any foolish ideas.
Xiao Hua’s throat was tightly constricted, each breath like pulling a rusty bellows. His chest heaved violently, yet he couldn’t draw in enough air. His lips turned purple, and the corners of his dry mouth twitched slightly.
Jiang Ruo was truly insane. His struggles grew weaker and weaker, and he felt as though he might die right there in the hospital bed.
Time seemed to stretch on endlessly. After what felt like an eternity, Jiang Ruo slowly released her grip on Xiao Hua’s throat.
She raised her hand, elegantly took a wet wipe, and meticulously cleaned her fingers from the tips to the pads, and then to her slender knuckles.
“This kind of situation really isn’t conducive to your recovery. Starting today, I’ll arrange for a few caregivers to look after you.”
That way, Xiao Hua wouldn’t be able to speak freely to people he shouldn’t.
“By the way, besides Gu Xiaozhou, have you seen anyone else?” Jiang Ruo paused, staring intently into Xiao Hua’s eyes. “You’d better tell me yourself.”
Xiao Hua wanted to mention Xu Bingqi’s name, but then he reconsidered. If he revealed Xu Bingqi’s involvement, Jiang Ruo would surely press him about what they had discussed, and he’d face retaliation from both Jiang Ruo and Xu Bingqi.
He struggled to keep his tone steady. “No, just the person who just left.”
Jiang Ruo narrowed her eyes. Xiao Hua didn’t even know Gu Xiaozhou’s identity, he certainly hadn’t had time to ask Gu for help.
Thankfully, she had arrived in time today.
But just as Jiang Ruo let her guard down slightly, she spotted a long strand of hair on the floor.
She bent down to pick up the smooth, silky strand, lifting it to her nose with her fingertips. A faint, familiar scent greeted her.
Clearly, this wasn’t Gu Xiaozhou’s hair it belonged to someone else.
It had never occurred to her that her sister had also found this place, and perhaps had been here for quite some time.
“So, my sister has been here too.”
After returning, Xu Bingqi didn’t rush to organize the recorded evidence. Instead, she went straight to her cat’s home.
The cat was scheduled to fly out with the film crew early the next morning to shoot in another city, so she had been particularly clingy lately.
But the main issue was that Xu Bingqi had discovered the cat had no idea how to pack a suitcase properly. She had to help her willful little cat.
“Guanjin, do we really need to bring so many snacks?”
Xu Bingqi sighed, looking helplessly at the two large suitcases stuffed full with dried fish and spicy marinated snacks, trying to reason patiently.
Song Guanjin lowered her head guiltily. She didn’t argue with her sister but instead wrapped her arms protectively around the suitcases, making her stance clear through action.
“You can buy these snacks anywhere,” Xu Bingqi said, rubbing her temples in exasperation. “Why don’t we use the suitcases for warm clothes instead?”
Song Guanjin still clung to the suitcases. “Clothes are sold everywhere too.”
The cat felt she was being more sensible than her sister. If she didn’t bring clothes, she could buy pretty new ones after arriving. And by the time filming wrapped up, she would have finished all the snacks, leaving room in the suitcases for the new clothes.
Wasn’t that a perfectly logical plan?
Xu Bingqi sighed in resignation. Buying new clothes was one of the cat’s greatest joys, and she knew it would be hard to change her mind.
Fortunately, the music company she planned to establish was already taking shape. In the future, she would have plenty of money to indulge her clothes-loving cat.
“If you run out of money, just let me know,” Xu Bingqi said, then pointed to another small suitcase. “Does this one need packing too?”
The cat glanced at the delicate little suitcase and lowered her head slightly.
She really wanted her sister to see what was inside, but she was also worried that if her sister found out, she might not let her bring it along.
Then all the strategies her advisors had suggested would be ruined!
Xu Bingqi watched as the cat lowered her head, her beautiful eyes darting back and forth, and suddenly grew curious. “Is it something important?”
If it was something particularly private, then she wouldn’t insist on helping the cat pack it.
“Sis, it’s not that I can’t show you,” the kitten licked the corner of her lips, “but if you look, you have to let me bring them along.”
Xu Bingqi felt a slight confusion. After a moment of careful thought, she cautiously asked, “It’s not anything illegal, is it?”
The kitten stared at her sister with emerald-green eyes, then after a long pause, nodded gently. “Probably not, right?”
These were all heartfelt recommendations from her strategists, who claimed they were essential tools to win over her chosen sister while she was away. Surely they couldn’t be contraband, could they?
But the kitten wasn’t particularly familiar with the convoluted laws of humans, so she guiltily averted her gaze.
“Sis, I feel like these are all good things,” Song Guanjin hugged the small suitcase tightly. “Definitely nothing illegal.”
When Xu Bingqi heard the words “good things,” her eyelid twitched involuntarily.
That kind of description was hard not to misinterpret.
But if she insisted on having Song Guanjin open the suitcase, it would imply she didn’t trust her.
“Forget it, I can open it for you to see,” Song Guanjin made up her mind. “But as long as it’s not contraband, I have to bring them.”
She was also a bit worried about whether these “good things” were actually illegal. Better to let her sister take a look.
Song Guanjin slowly opened the delicate little suitcase, and a faint, sweet fragrance wafted out, lingering around the two of them.
When Xu Bingqi saw the “good things” inside the suitcase, she unconsciously clenched her fingertips.
At the very top was a sexy maid-style nightgown.
The lightweight, semi-transparent lace fabric carried the faint scent of laundry detergent. The deep V-neck design extended all the way to the waistline, seemingly ready to reveal the entire expanse of the back.
“I’ve tried them all,” the kitten explained cautiously, noticing her sister’s apparent shock. “This design shows off my entire back, and the V-neck is cut really wide. The white lace trim around the collar actually complements my skin tone quite well.”
“It’s a bestseller,” the kitten continued, seeing her sister remain silent. “This one definitely isn’t illegal, so I can keep it, right?”
“This…” It wasn’t until the kitten pulled out the body-hugging skirt from under the maid nightgown that Xu Bingqi snapped out of her daze. “Do you really need these clothes?”
“Of course!” The kitten calmly showcased the short skirt to her sister from all angles but felt a tinge of disappointment when she noticed her sister lowering her head. “If I don’t prepare these, what if you forget about me?”
Her strategists had told her that only by constantly stimulating her sister both mentally and physically could she make sure her sister remembered her deeply!
“You don’t need to,” Xu Bingqi thought for a moment and said seriously. “What if you catch a cold?”
As the kitten pulled out an assortment of uniforms and lace nightgowns, she froze at her sister’s words.
Inappropriately, she recalled an outdated meme: I say I kill without blinking, and you ask me if my eyes are dry?
The kitten felt like she was winking at a blind person.
But in a place the kitten couldn’t see, Xu Bingqi slowly clenched her fingertips, and her breathing began to quicken.
“I’ll turn up the air conditioning beforehand,” the kitten explained dryly.
“This one is really thin and sheer,” the kitten continued, flipping through the clothes to show her sister. “I’ll try them on for you one by another time.”
Xu Bingqi could no longer bear to look. “Put them away for now,” she said.
Her mind involuntarily conjured images of Song Guanjin’s demeanor and appearance while wearing those clothes.
When Song Guanjin held up the maid-style nightgown, the lace edge accidentally brushed against Xu Bingqi’s face, causing her breath to hitch. Her once-bright eyes instantly clouded over with a hazy mist.
A few strands of hair, stirred by the nightgown’s movement, fell messily across her cheeks. Unconsciously, Xu Bingqi clenched her sleeves, her knuckles turning pale.
The kitten’s actions… were indeed far too enticing.
Seeing her elder sister’s long eyelashes trembling uncontrollably, Song Guanjin slowly moved closer with the nightgown, her exhaled breath scorching hot: “Sister, this surely isn’t against the rules, right?”
Xu Bingqi slightly turned her face away, yet the fervent, hurried breaths lingered around her neck. “Sister, later… I’ll wear it for you, okay?”
A faint, sweet fragrance gradually permeated the air, and Xu Bingqi felt herself slowly sinking into this soft, saccharine atmosphere.
The kitten before her still exuded a sugary aura, like a freshly baked peach pie.
Xu Bingqi struggled to control her breathing, clenching her slender fingers tightly to suppress the urge to taste this delectable peach pie.
But the peach pie before her was so irresistibly sweet, she still wanted to take a bite.
