After Her Death, They Begged for Forgiveness - Chapter 59
Song Guanjin had been clinging tightly to Xu Bingqi every evening lately.
“Sis, our crew is about to move locations soon. Will you miss me then?”
Xu Bingqi froze for a moment upon reading the message from the kitten: “When? Where are you moving to?”
The kitten pouted sadly: “We leave the morning after tomorrow, going somewhere really far away, it takes three hours by plane.”
Xu Bingqi gazed out the window at the lightly falling snow, feeling as if the snowflakes were drifting into her heart.
She had grown accustomed to the kitten’s clinginess and to frequently visiting the set. The thought of Song Guanjin going elsewhere to film left her with an empty feeling.
“Be safe on your journey. When will you be back?”
The kitten clutched her phone under the covers, her eyes still red, typing much slower than usual: “Not until after early spring.”
Sis had promised to give her an answer on New Year’s Eve!
She had it all planned out, if Sis agreed to her confession, she could test Sis’s “learning results” that very night!
“Sis, do you still mean what you said?”
A teardrop fell from the kitten’s eye, splattering on the phone screen with a soft “plop” and dampening a small area.
Song Guanjin hurriedly grabbed a tissue to wipe the moisture off the screen. After cleaning it, she saw Xu Bingqi’s reply.
“Of course I mean it, don’t worry.”
The kitten stared at the message for a long time, feeling that Sis must know what she was referring to, then saved the message.
If Sis ever tried to go back on her word, she’d have this as evidence!
Xu Bingqi waited a moment but didn’t see a reply from the kitten. Not knowing how the kitten was feeling now, she grew anxious: “Guanjin, are you okay? I’ll come see you.”
Song Guanjin was just a kitten who had recently blended into human society she probably had never been so far away and must be really nervous right now.
“No need, it’s still snowing outside.”
Sis wanted to come see her!
Song Guanjin’s first instinct was to obediently wait for Sis to arrive, but then she looked out the window. The snow was falling more heavily, and the roads were surely slippery and treacherous definitely not suitable for going out.
The kitten tapped and typed on her phone screen, ultimately deciding to decline Sis’s kind offer.
Just the fact that Sis offered to come see her already made her happy.
“Sis, after I leave, you have to stay firm. Don’t fall for Gu Xiaozhou and Jiang Ruo’s tricks.”
She wouldn’t allow those people to steal Sis away while she was gone!
Xu Bingqi was currently putting on her coat to go out. With one sleeve on, she took a moment to type a reply: “Okay.”
After a moment’s thought, she added: “You too.”
The kitten was so beautiful she was worried someone else might snatch her away.
Seeing Xu Bingqi’s message, Song Guanjin happily rolled over in bed.
With this precaution in place, her Sis would definitely sternly reject those nasty troublemakers!
She thought for a moment, then pushed her luck further: “And that beagle, don’t pay any attention to it either.”
That silly dog was so annoying it had eaten so many of the chestnuts Sis bought for her.
If Gu Xiaozhou brought that dog to see Sis again, Sis might not soften toward Gu Xiaozhou, but she’d probably soften toward that silly dog.
She might even feed it something delicious again!
And then, who knows Sis might even want to get a dog herself!
【No, don’t pay attention to any dog sisters.】
【And cats are not allowed either.】
Xu Bingqi, who had just put on her coat, froze for a moment. Not even cats or dogs?
Isn’t the cat being a bit too domineering?
She thought for a moment and typed a reply: 【Can I pet them?】
【Of course not!!】
This was absolutely not allowed!
The thought of herself working hard filming while other cats and dogs might be gently petted by Xu Bingqi made Song Guanjin’s eyes red with anger.
What if some cat or dog spirits approached her sister?
The possibility made Song Guanjin tremble, as if the biting cold outside had seeped into her body through the gaps in the blanket.
【Sister, you can pet me for a lifetime, so don’t worry about those cats and dogs outside. Are any of them as pretty or as adorable as me?】
Xu Bingqi sighed: 【Alright.】
The cat was the one she had chosen, so she had to spoil her.
The cat, noticing her sister’s reluctance, stared at her fingertips and fell into deep thought.
If it really came to that, maybe she could try transforming into the appearance of other cats?
Just as the cat was attempting to mimic the forms of popular pet cats, Xu Bingqi was already knocking on the door outside.
Song Guanjin trembled and quickly transformed back into the stunningly beautiful celebrity.
Could it really be her sister?
【I’m outside the door.】
Song Guanjin rushed to open the door, and a gust of icy cold air, carrying the dampness of melting snowflakes, swept in.
“Sister, you actually came!”
Ignoring the chilly droplets on Xu Bingqi’s coat, Song Guanjin practically threw herself into her sister’s arms, wrapping her tightly in an embrace.
Xu Bingqi’s fingers loosened, and her umbrella fell to the ground. After a moment’s hesitation, she reached out and hugged the cat back, holding her close.
“Alright, be careful not to catch a cold. Let me take off my coat first.”
Xu Bingqi gently pushed Song Guanjin away and removed her outerwear.
Song Guanjin stared unblinkingly at her sister. Even the way she took off her coat was captivating her slender fingers deftly unbuttoned it one by one, the collar parting slightly to reveal a glimpse of her fair collarbone.
“Sister, I have something to give you!”
After staring for a while, the cat suddenly remembered the package she had just received and wanted to hand it over to her sister.
“What is it?”
Song Guanjin naturally brought out the already opened package and said very casually, “Sister, take a look.”
After studying the learning materials for so many days and having mastered them, her sister was bound to like this!
Handing the items over, Song Guanjin watched her sister’s reaction with eager anticipation.
Even though her sister had studied the materials, the cat was certain she would still blush at the sight of these! Her sister was just too easily flustered!
Xu Bingqi first took out a few scented candles, then paused when she saw the remaining items.
Song Guanjin felt a sense of foreboding. Her sister’s expression was calm, and she even picked up the packaging with interest, examining it carefully.
Could it be that she didn’t even know what these were?
After carefully comparing the styles and brands described on the packaging, Xu Bingqi calmly remarked, “We bought duplicates.”
Song Guanjin was a bit confused: “Duplicates meaning?”
“I bought these styles too.” Xu Bingqi set the packaging down. “I think we can try the ‘ice and fire’ one first. I’ve heard it’s less intense.”
Song Guanjin was utterly shocked.
Was this really her sister, the one who used to blush furiously at the mere sight of her own body?
Why was she saying these words with such calm composure? And how should she even respond to her sister speaking like this?
Song Guanjin’s gaze began to wander. She lowered her head slightly and murmured something under her breath.
Xu Bingqi didn’t catch it and asked, puzzled, “What did you just say?”
“We could try using two different ones,” Song Guanjin repeated a little louder. “One with a cooling sensation and one with a warming sensation.”
Since her sister’s acceptance level was so high now, she could freely discuss these kinds of experiences with her in the future.
Xu Bingqi fell silent for a moment.
She had to admit, the kitten had a certain talent in this area.
Even though she had anticipated the kitten would bring up this topic and had prepared herself mentally beforehand, she still couldn’t match the kitten’s spontaneous creativity.
Xu Bingqi set down the packaging box. “We’ll talk about it another time.”
The kitten was probably just imagining things. If they actually tried it, she’d likely end up in tears.
Song Guanjin nodded, then immediately dashed off to retrieve another package. “I also got this for you, sis.”
She had placed the order a few days ago, and the delivery had finally arrived today.
Xu Bingqi recognized the packaging of the Audio-Technica ATH-L5000 at a glance.
These were headphones perfectly suited for discerning audio nuances while composing, and they were exceptionally comfortable to wear.
The kitten’s gaze was sincere and earnest. “Sis, once I become a film queen, I’ll definitely be able to buy you even better ones.”
With mixed emotions, Xu Bingqi took the box from Song Guanjin. “Thank you. But why did you suddenly buy this for me?”
“No one ever gave you birthday gifts before,” Song Guanjin said, seizing the moment of her sister’s surprise to plant a kiss on her cheek. “I’m making up for it.”
In her sister’s previous life, every birthday had been cold and lonely. No one had ever given her a gift, not even a simple birthday wish. But now that she was here, such a thing would never happen again.
“Thank you.”
Xu Bingqi forced out the words of gratitude. Her eyes glistened with a shimmering light, her lips trembled slightly, then slowly curved into a beautiful smile.
Song Guanjin hadn’t expected her sister to be so moved. She felt a little embarrassed. “Sis?”
When Xu Bingqi looked at her, she flashed an obedient smile. “Other cats and dogs can’t do any of this for you, so could you just keep me as your only kitten?”
She had to eliminate any possibility of her sister being tempted by other cats!
Xu Bingqi nodded gently.
Reassured by her sister’s promise, Song Guanjin, content, transformed back into a kitten, leaped onto the bed, and invited her sister to rest with her.
The kitten’s thoughts were simple: since her sister wasn’t going to do anything with her now, there was no need to maintain her human form. Everything that had happened today left her completely satisfied. Snuggled against her sister’s chest, she quickly fell asleep.
In the darkness, Xu Bingqi lay awake, her eyes open.
Beside her was a warm, fluffy kitten, yet she couldn’t find peace enough to sleep.
She had already uncovered Xiao Hua’s current situation.
To Xu Bingqi’s utter astonishment, Xiao Hua’s legs had indeed been broken by Jiang Ruo herself.
Jiang Ruo’s madness had exceeded all her expectations.
“Jiang Ruo is a lunatic.” At that time, Xiao Hua had long lost the audacity he once had when facing Xu Bingqi. His eyes were filled with terror: “I simply can’t shake her off. To her, I know too much.”
Xiao Hua also feared the cold and ruthless Xu Bingqi standing before him. Xu Bingqi had grown up with Jiang Ruo perhaps she was another kind of madwoman.
But he had no other options left.
He only wanted to escape Jiang Ruo, and for that, he was willing to pay any price.
Xiao Hua could only gamble that Xu Bingqi was slightly more sane than Jiang Ruo.
“What exactly do you know?”
Xu Bingqi paid no mind to Xiao Hua’s fearful gaze; she merely hoped to gather evidence of Jiang Ruo’s crimes from him.
But the very first thing Xiao Hua said made Xu Bingqi’s stomach churn.
“She’s in love with you.” Xiao Hua lowered his head, staring at the hospital gown he hadn’t changed in days. “I once saw her private office it was filled with photos of you from childhood to now.”
“And all of them were taken from hidden angles.”
At the time, Xu Bingqi had to struggle for a long moment to suppress the overwhelming nausea.
Recalling this, Xu Bingqi closed her eyes in disgust and hugged the sleeping cat in her arms tighter.
There is nothing in the world more healing than holding an adorable, sleeping cat.
