After Her Death, They Begged for Forgiveness - Chapter 57.1
“Song Guanjin actually survived?”
Jiang Ruo stared disbelievingly at the message on her phone: “How could anyone fall from such a great height completely unscathed?”
She recalled the previous failure when attempting to use points for an exchange.
250,000 points should have been enough to eliminate someone who didn’t exist in the original novel. While Song Guanjin truly wasn’t mentioned in the story, she had still managed to survive until now.
“Could it be that she isn’t human at all?”
Jiang Ruo questioned the system: “Is she another transmigrator?”
Transmigrators possessed systems, which indeed placed them beyond ordinary humans.
[Host, I’m not certain either.]
Jiang Ruo seemed to have completely given up on completing the transmigration mission. The system wouldn’t provide any assistance for Jiang Ruo’s personal goals, as helping an obsessive madwoman served no purpose.
“She must be another transmigrator.” Jiang Ruo didn’t care about the system’s response either way: “That’s why she remained completely unfazed when I threatened her before.”
“And this time, when she fell but wasn’t injured, it must be because she used points to exchange for some item or tool that negated the damage.”
The more Jiang Ruo analyzed, the more reasonable her hypothesis seemed: “So her clinging to my sister’s side and pestering her definitely isn’t out of admiration, it must be to complete a conquest mission.”
“Her feelings for my sister aren’t genuine at all.”
The system listened silently to Jiang Ruo’s analysis, growing increasingly unable to understand why the host cared so much about whether others held sincere feelings for Xu Bingqi. It couldn’t comprehend how Jiang Ruo, once so brilliant and successful, could become so obsessively fixated on an ordinary person.
The host’s previous explanation was that Xu Bingqi remained unaffected by the novel’s world, hence sparking strong interest. But the system always felt this reasoning didn’t hold up.
As a host who had completed thousands of transmigration missions, would she truly develop feelings for such a reason?
Someone unaffected by the novel’s settings should, for a host eager to complete missions, logically be nothing more than an obstacle to eliminate.
[Host, did you know Xu Bingqi before this conquest mission?]
“None of your business?” Jiang Ruo’s tone turned icy: “What does that have to do with your objectives?”
The system understood the answer now Jiang Ruo must have known Xu Bingqi beforehand. That explained why she chose this particular world for the transmigration mission, even though it wasn’t suitable for transformation into a novel setting.
“I must go tell my sister.” Jiang Ruo sneered coldly: “She’s been so protective of Song Guanjin. Won’t she be utterly heartbroken to learn Song Guanjin is just completing a conquest mission?”
The system offered no suggestions. Since Jiang Ruo’s actions had nothing to do with the transmigration mission, it certainly wouldn’t waste processing power predicting the outcomes of such foolish behavior.
Jiang Ruo went directly to the hotel where Xu Bingqi was staying.
However, obtaining the room number proved difficult. No matter how politely she inquired about Xu Bingqi’s room number, the staff consistently stated they couldn’t disclose guest privacy information.
Just as Xu Bingqi returned carrying a cat teaser wand, she spotted Jiang Ruo quietly asking the front desk staff for a room number.
She paused briefly, then walked straight forward without avoiding the encounter.
After all, she was checking out tomorrow, so even if Jiang Ruo learned the room number, it wouldn’t matter. Moreover, she suspected Jiang Ruo was involved in Song Guanjin’s fall, and this was the perfect opportunity to gauge her reaction.
If Jiang Ruo truly had something to do with it, she would gather evidence and make sure Jiang Ruo ended up in prison.
“Sis!” Jiang Ruo hurried over upon seeing Xu Bingqi, pausing briefly at the sight of the cat teaser in her hand before smiling. “Do you have time to talk?”
Xu Bingqi nodded coldly, subtly sidestepping Jiang Ruo’s attempt to hold her hand.
“I have something very important to tell you,” Jiang Ruo said, seemingly unbothered by Xu Bingqi’s evasion. “Can we talk in your room?”
Jiang Ruo’s lips curved into a gentle, sunny smile, but the moment she lowered her gaze, a flicker of obsession and madness surged deep in her eyes.
Xu Bingqi didn’t respond or even look at Jiang Ruo. She stepped into the elevator and pressed the floor button, with Jiang Ruo following closely behind.
“Sis, you have a cat teaser did you get a cat?”
Jiang Ruo eyed the cat toy in Xu Bingqi’s hand, puzzled.
No wonder Gu Xiaozhou had insisted on keeping a cat before, even if it meant being hospitalized due to allergies. It was because Xu Bingqi liked cats.
“I like cats too,” Jiang Ruo said with a smile. “Can I help you take care of the cat?”
“No.”
Xu Bingqi’s reply was icy.
Jiang Ruo frowned in disappointment before remembering Song Guanjin. “Is Song Guanjin staying with you?”
If Song Guanjin was here, she couldn’t speak freely she’d have to find a way to send her away first.
Xu Bingqi paused briefly before answering softly, “No.”
Jiang Ruo’s tense nerves instantly relaxed, and she let out a long sigh of relief, followed by an irrepressible surge of joy.
So, that night when her sister and Song Guanjin came to see her together, it wasn’t because they were living together maybe it was just a coincidence.
Her sister not liking her didn’t necessarily mean she liked Song Guanjin. With that thought, Jiang Ruo felt much more balanced.
After all, she had spent years by her sister’s side day and night surely, she had more of an advantage over Gu Xiaozhou and Song Guanjin.
Reassured of her superiority, Jiang Ruo regained her confidence and followed Xu Bingqi into the room after she swiped the keycard.
The cat demon had been lying by the door, waiting for her sister to return. Hearing the “beep” of the keycard, she stretched lazily, took a dignified step forward, then rolled over on the floor, exposing her soft belly.
“What a cute cat.”
Jiang Ruo frowned briefly before offering the insincere compliment.
First, there was Song Guanjin, who was skilled at acting pitiful and seductive, and now even the cat her sister kept knew how to charm people.
Song Guanjin, upon hearing the familiar voice, widened her emerald-green cat eyes in disbelief. Before she could let out a defensive hiss, Xu Bingqi picked her up from the floor.
“She really is adorable,” Xu Bingqi said, her gaze tender as she soothingly stroked the cat’s head. “I like her a lot.”
She could tell the cat demon seemed angry.
Song Guanjin turned her head away, refusing her sister’s affection, but she didn’t jump out of her arms. Instead, she nuzzled against her sister’s waist and shot a challenging look at Jiang Ruo.
In this situation, I must stay calm, Maomao thought to herself. Once that cunning Jiang Ruo leaves, she would post online seeking advice from her strategist friends on how to deal with a third party who completely lacks moral boundaries.
“May I pet the cat?” Jiang Ruo noticed the cat’s obvious look of disgust but smiled faintly, unfazed. “The cat seems to like me a lot.”
Song Guanjin ignored Jiang Ruo. Instead, she widened her round cat eyes and stared at her sister, hoping she would immediately agree to Jiang Ruo’s request.
If Jiang Ruo dared to pick her up, she would not hesitate to use her little cat paws to scratch her so badly she’d need a rabies shot.
“No.”
Xu Bingqi held the cat even tighter, casting a disdainful glance at Jiang Ruo. “This is my cat.”
Song Guanjin felt her fluffy head pressed tightly against her sister’s slender waist, to the point where it was a little hard to breathe. She let out a soft “meow,” and only then did she feel her sister’s grip loosen slightly.
Jiang Ruo awkwardly withdrew her hand. In the past, when her sister had taken care of small animals, she had always allowed Jiang Ruo to pet them. But now, her sister’s gaze toward the cat was filled with possessiveness.
Yet, it was just an ordinary, unremarkable cat.
Jiang Ruo carefully observed the ill-tempered feline but found nothing special about it.
“If you have something to say, just say it directly.”
Xu Bingqi’s gaze never left the cat in her arms as she gently smoothed the fur around its ears. “I have things to do later.”
Jiang Ruo’s eyes had been fixed on her cat the entire time she must be envious of her well-behaved, adorable pet. Xu Bingqi stroked the cat’s fur even more deliberately, wanting to make it clear to Jiang Ruo exactly who the cat belonged to.
