After Her Death, They Begged for Forgiveness - Chapter 28
Xu Bingqi slightly turned aside to avoid Song Guanjin’s touch.
She tilted her head back slightly, her long lashes lowered as she blinked gently, then extended her slender fingers to press against her temples, struggling to stay clear-headed.
Xu Bingqi regretted having drunk so many glasses of fruit wine, to the point where she now mistook Song Guanjin’s outstretched hand for a cat’s soft, pink paw pad.
Dissatisfied with Xu Bingqi’s evasion, Song Guanjin reached out again, wrapping her arm around Xu Bingqi’s waist and pulling her close. She rested her head on Xu Bingqi’s shoulder and murmured indistinctly, “Sis, it’s so late already, let’s rest first.”
Xu Bingqi’s first instinct wasn’t even to push Song Guanjin away but to look down at the arm and fingers encircling her waist.
They still seemed to belong to a human.
Maybe she was a little more sober now?
Only then did Xu Bingqi fluster and resist, pushing Song Guanjin away. She tried to pry off the arm wrapped around her, her nails turning white from the effort.
For the first time, she realized how strong Song Guanjin was she couldn’t break free right away.
The cat, satisfied, held her sister and guided her toward the room. “Sis, this way.”
The alcohol content of the fruit wine was very low, making it perfect for a lightweight cat who loved to indulge. She felt she could somewhat control her shape-shifting, though her consciousness remained a bit hazy.
She leaned against the warm body beside her, which exuded a faint, fresh scent, clinging to it like ivy tightly winding around a tree trunk.
The little cat believed that snuggling up with her closest friend for a peaceful rest was the happiest thing in the world.
Walking side by side into the room, Song Guanjin wore a pleased smile as she closed the door contentedly. “Alright, time to sleep!”
“Is this, sleeping together?”
Xu Bingqi watched as Song Guanjin, after closing the door, leisurely made her way to the bed. After a long silence, she finally murmured hesitantly, “Is there a problem with that?”
The little cat, puzzled, touched her hair to make sure her cat ears hadn’t popped out before calming down and retorting, “I’m just not used to it yet.” Xu Bingqi slowly edged toward the door. “I’ll just sleep on the sofa.”
“What’s there to get used to?” The little cat stood up and walked over to her sister, taking hold of her pale fingertips, feeling the thin calluses from playing musical instruments. “Sleep here.”
Just as Xu Bingqi was about to argue, she heard Song Guanjin’s slightly aggrieved voice, “Sis, aren’t I your good friend?”
The girl’s voice carried a sob, her eyes slightly reddened and glistening with tears, like a delicate flower drenched by rain, gazing at her with pitiful vulnerability.
“Yes, but…”
Xu Bingqi looked at Song Guanjin’s reddened eyes, struggling to find an excuse. “I’m not used to sleeping with others.”
“I’m not ‘others.’” Upon receiving Xu Bingqi’s acknowledgment, Song Guanjin’s lips curved upward. “I’m your good friend.”
Then the little cat wrapped her arms around the human’s neck. The fair skin glowed delicately in the dim light, like a swan arching its neck, tracing an enchanting curve from the chin to the collarbone.
The little cat couldn’t resist gently stroking it a few times and was surprised to feel the sister in front of her shiver slightly.
Xu Bingqi grabbed Song Guanjin’s mischievous hand, striving to keep her tone steady. “Don’t touch me.”
“Sis, you were trembling just now.”
Song Guanjin lightly touched her sister’s neck, then looked up to see her sister’s cheeks instantly flush crimson. The usually cool and distant curve of her brows and eyes now carried a hint of alluring charm, adding a touch of enchantment.
It was like witnessing the eternal snow peaks beginning to melt, the cold, hard ice slowly flowing down the mountainside, gradually revealing the gentle contours beneath.
The kitten seemed to realize something and withdrew her hand as if shocked.
Was her behavior too impolite in human terms?
But this version of her sister was actually quite captivating.
Song Guanjin stared intently at the gentle figure before her, as if frost and snow had melted away to reveal a tender spring. She felt as though tiny claws were scratching at her heart.
Xu Bingqi, who had finally calmed down, felt it necessary to confess her sexual orientation to Song Guanjin. It seemed she could no longer endure the teasing from a straight girl.
Every flirtatious gesture felt like a feather lightly brushing against her heart, stirring up turmoil she could no longer bear.
Xu Bingqi carefully weighed her words in her mind, pondering the best way to broach the subject.
She couldn’t just blurt out, “The weather’s lovely today, oh and by the way, I’m a lesbian,” could she?
Xu Bingqi took a deep breath.
“I’m really sorry I didn’t tell you earlier,” Xu Bingqi paused, then slowly exhaled: “I’m attracted to women.”
Song Guanjin froze in place.
The kitten’s brain short-circuited for a moment. After rebooting her mental processes and carefully sorting through the information, she finally realized that “attracted to women” was equivalent to “lesbian.”
Seeing Song Guanjin standing there dumbfounded and seemingly confused, Xu Bingqi understood that this revelation had hit her hard.
Indeed, even though Song Guanjin often hugged and held her, she probably couldn’t accept the fact that she was gay.
Still, this reaction was much better compared to how Gu Xiaozhou and the others had responded.
“I’ll take a taxi home.”
“It’s fine, you can stay here tonight.”
Their voices overlapped. After realizing Xu Bingqi was gay, Song Guanjin felt somewhat guilty. Had all her previous behavior seemed like blatant flirting in Xu Bingqi’s eyes?
Becoming aware that she might have caused trouble, Song Guanjin instantly sobered up. She quickly grabbed the doorknob, turned it with a sharp “click,” and didn’t dare look back: “I won’t disturb you anymore. You should rest.”
Xu Bingqi smiled wryly. Song Guanjin was truly kind even though she seemed unable to accept her being gay, she was still willing to let her stay.
Just as Xu Bingqi stood there collecting herself, the door clicked open again. Song Guanjin poked her head back in: “Oh, by the way, how did you know you were a lesbian?”
Song Guanjin was curious. She had never really thought about whether she might be gay herself. How had Xu Bingqi figured out her own orientation?
“Hmm?” Xu Bingqi was surprised by the sudden question. “I just naturally knew.”
Song Guanjin nodded, then closed the door again.
Damn, she realized she had never actually considered whether she might be gay. She had never even experienced what love felt like.
Looks like she’d have to search on social media for answers.
Song Guanjin opened her phone and fell into deep thought upon seeing a series of messages: “Having desires for girls,” “Feeling a flutter towards close friends,” “Come on!” You can only know this kind of thing through real experience!”
Real experience? With what? How?
The text before her eyes began to blur. Song Guanjin helplessly rubbed her forehead, the fruit wine was clearly too strong for her.
When Xu Bingqi woke up the next day, she felt something warm and fluffy in her arms, its texture like a sun-dried blanket, silky smooth to the touch.
Slowly opening her eyes, Xu Bingqi saw Pomegranate nestled in her embrace, purring contentedly.
Where was Song Guanjin? Had she brought the cat back from the boarding place again?
But how did the cat get in? Did Song Guanjin let it in?
Xu Bingqi picked up her phone and saw it was already past ten in the morning. So much for relying on her internal clock. Expressionless, she reset her alarm.
After quickly getting dressed, Xu Bingqi pushed open the door to look for Song Guanjin.
But the house was empty Song Guanjin was clearly not home.
Xu Bingqi dialed Song Guanjin’s number and heard the ringtone echoing from the living room.
Picking up Song Guanjin’s phone from the sofa, she wondered why Song Guanjin had gone out without it.
Setting the phone aside, Xu Bingqi decided to return to the bedroom and bring the cat out.
With Song Guanjin away, she could play with the sweet and adorable Pomegranate again.
When Song Guanjin woke up, she found herself in cat form, cradled in Xu Bingqi’s arms.
Xu Bingqi’s body emitted a faint, soothing fragrance, like gentle tides enveloping her.
Song Guanjin could feel the slight pressure of Xu Bingqi’s ribs and the gentle strength of her abdomen.
It was as if she were resting on an island bathed in soft moonlight, her very breath tinged with its serene scent.
Yet, instead of sinking into this tranquility, she felt waves of restlessness.
The cat squirmed uneasily, arching its back and slowly raising its tail, gradually wriggling out of Xu Bingqi’s embrace.
Amid the confusion, she seemed to understand what the post meant by “having desires for a close friend.”
In her agitation, Song Guanjin faintly heard Xu Bingqi’s cool voice tinged with urgency: “I really should have taken you to get neutered sooner.”
Then she felt the other’s slightly calloused fingertips gently and rhythmically stroking her head.
