After Getting Pregnant, I’m Divorcing My Alpha - Chapter 36
“Everyone, let’s share the cake.” After the press conference ended, the cake was wheeled backstage, and An Xiangdi called everyone over to have a slice.
“Isn’t this for Teacher Shen? Wouldn’t it be rude for us to eat it?”
“Exactly, let Teacher Shen handle it himself. We shouldn’t take it from him.”
The staff members hesitated, seemingly unwilling to take Shen Xiao’s cake. But how could An Xiangdi not know what they were thinking? Wasn’t it just because the cake looked a little unappealing?
“Are you all afraid to eat it?” An Xiangdi narrowed his eyes, scanning the people around him.
“How could we? If Teacher Shen agrees.” Everyone turned to look at Shen Xiao, who had been standing silently nearby.
Shen Xiao didn’t respond. Instead, he walked over to the cake, cut a small piece, and took a bite. Then, in a low voice, he said, “I don’t agree.”
That settled the matter. Everyone laughed awkwardly and quickly dispersed.
An Xiangdi rushed over to him. “What’s the matter? Did you taste it and decide it’s too good to share?”
“Why don’t you try it yourself?” Shen Xiao asked.
An Xiangdi glanced at the cake, which had a large hollow in the middle. “Never mind.”
Shen Xiao curled his lips into a smile. The cake tasted decent at least, it was far better than what An Xiangdi used to make.
“Wait until I finish it,” Shen Xiao said, sitting down and methodically cutting and eating the cake piece by piece.
An Xiangdi watched as he polished off the entire eight-inch cake, not even leaving a single crumb. “You ate so much. What are you going to have for dinner tonight?”
“Dinner?” Shen Xiao raised an eyebrow. “Do we have plans tonight?”
“We did, but not anymore.” An Xiangdi crossed his arms and walked out.
Shen Xiao quickly caught up, grabbing his hand. “Where are you taking me to eat? You decide.”
An Xiangdi shot him a sidelong glance. “If you end up in the hospital, don’t blame me.”
Despite his words, An Xiangdi didn’t take Shen Xiao to the restaurant they had originally planned. Instead, he brought him to a beef noodle shop across from Zongming Municipal Middle School.
“Why did we come here?”
“Just to take a look.”
This beef noodle shop was a place the two of them often visited together during their school days.
High school was busy, but the two of them possessed an enviable, almost unnatural intelligence. They barely studied yet consistently ranked first and second in every exam.
During evening self-study sessions, An Xiangdi would often lounge lazily at his desk, passing small notes to Shen Xiao, asking if he wanted to go for beef noodles after class.
Now, more than a decade later, the shop owner had aged, but the shop itself looked newer than ever.
“Boss! Your shop it’s been renovated?” An Xiangdi felt a sense of disorientation as he stepped inside.
The walls were freshly painted, the floor tiles were spotless, and even the large pot used for cooking noodles at the entrance had been replaced with a brand-new one.
“Oh my, aren’t you two big celebrities?”
When Zongming Municipal Middle School was first established, it was built in the relatively remote western suburbs of Zongming City, with the intention of providing students with a quiet campus environment.
Usually, the noodle shop only had students as customers. But now, during summer vacation, business was slow. By six or seven in the evening, the owner would start cleaning up and preparing to close. Little did he expect Shen Xiao and An Xiangdi to show up.
“One bowl of beef noodles,” An Xiangdi ordered, then sat down in the corner spot they often occupied during their student days.
Shen Xiao sat across from him, lowering his head to hand him a pair of chopsticks. “Aren’t you eating?”
“Just a little, I’m not hungry.” An Xiangdi propped his chin on one hand, flipping through the sticky notes pasted on the wall.
The beef noodle shop had a dedicated wall covered in handwritten sticky notes from students. The contents varied some wished for a partner, others for top exam scores, and some hoped to meet their idols.
“Look, your idol Shen Xiao.” An Xiangdi tapped a pink sticky note on the wall.
Shen Xiao glanced at it briefly before picking up a pen and signing his name underneath.
As the two chatted, the shop owner, while cooking noodles, stole glances at An Xiangdi’s slightly rounded belly. After a moment, he finally asked, “Xiangdi, are you pregnant?”
An Xiangdi, who had been pressing his fingertip against the wall, froze. Slowly, he withdrew his hand. “Yes.”
“I thought so, looking at your belly” The owner gestured vaguely.
“Is it that obvious?” An Xiangdi realized that since his pregnancy had started showing, more than one person had commented on how noticeable it was.
“My wife was like this when she was pregnant. She ended up giving birth to twins.” The owner smiled warmly. “Come to think of it, back then, we all thought you were an Alpha.”
“Yeah, I’m that impressive and handsome.” An Xiangdi boasted playfully.
An Xiangdi had presented late. After all his peers had presented their secondary genders, as a prominent figure in school, he was often the subject of speculation about what gender he would present as.
Most people assumed he would be an Alpha because, back then, An Xiangdi was bold and unrestrained stunningly beautiful yet talented in both academics and sports, an exceptional singer and skilled fighter. A minority believed he would be an Omega because he was simply too good-looking, the kind of face that would stand out in any crowd.
But by graduation, no one had gotten their answer.
Only Shen Xiao had.
The owner brought the noodles to the table. “I didn’t add much oil, so it’s relatively light.”
“Thank you, boss.” An Xiangdi didn’t eat, though. Instead, he pushed the bowl toward Shen Xiao. “Birthday boy, eat up.”
“Is it Shen Xiao’s birthday today? Wait, let me add two eggs for you.”
“No need” Shen Xiao tried to stop him. After eating a whole cake, he was already quite full.
But the owner insisted, bringing two pre-fried eggs to the table. “Enjoy, no need to be polite. Wishing you twins.”
Hearing such a straightforward blessing, An Xiangdi blushed, half-covering his face in embarrassment. “That’s nice of you.”
Seeing his reaction, Shen Xiao chuckled softly as he buried his head to eat the eggs.
An Xiangdi kicked him under the table, then stared blankly at the sticky notes on the wall, not taking in a single word.
Shen Xiao ate half the noodles and set aside a small bowl for An Xiangdi.
An Xiangdi had passed the morning sickness phase, but his appetite was still slowly recovering, so he didn’t eat much.
After finishing the noodles, the two bid farewell to the owner and drove home.
Shen Xiao had planned to shower with An Xiangdi, but he received a call from his studio and had to attend to work first.
An Xiangdi didn’t mind. He couldn’t stay in the bathroom too long, as it wasn’t good for his health, so he finished showering early and settled into a chaise lounge with a book.
Shen Xiao put down his phone. “I’m going to shower.”
“Mm.” An Xiangdi turned a page, engrossed in his book.
As the sound of running water echoed from the bathroom, An Xiangdi’s phone rang.
He reached for it and saw the caller ID: “Shen Hou.”
His grip on the phone tightened. It had been a month since their last call, and Shen Hou hadn’t contacted him since. An Xiangdi had assumed the man was too important to remember him. But it seemed some things were inevitable.
The ringtone persisted relentlessly. Just before it could hang up automatically, An Xiangdi answered the call.
“Hello.”
“Is this Mr. An Xiangdi?” The caller was a woman, likely Shen Hou’s secretary, An Xiangdi guessed.
“Yes.”
“Mr. Shen Hou has a two-hour window from 2 to 4 p.m. on August 3rd. Please arrive punctually at Sanfu Café on Qiao’an Road.”
“How presumptuous, giving me no choice at all,” An Xiangdi sneered.
The secretary seemed to have anticipated his response and replied smoothly, without a hint of surprise, “Every minute of Mr. Shen Hou’s time is worth millions. As his secretary, I don’t believe he would casually schedule a meeting with you.”
An Xiangdi rolled his eyes. His Alpha was worth millions per minute too, okay?
Who couldn’t compare in terms of money?
“Do you have any other questions?” the secretary asked politely when she received no further response.
An Xiangdi said nothing and simply hung up.
By the time Shen Xiao stepped out of the shower, An Xiangdi was already in bed, his earlier good mood seemingly gone.
Sensing something amiss, Shen Xiao was about to ask when An Xiangdi spoke first.
“I just got a call from the doctor.”
“Which doctor?” Shen Xiao paused, towel in hand.
An Xiangdi looked up and caught sight of Shen Xiao’s well-defined muscles, his cheeks flushing slightly. “The private doctor you hired. He asked me to go for a prenatal check-up tomorrow.”
“What time tomorrow?” Shen Xiao immediately decided to clear his schedule. For something as important as a prenatal check-up, a responsible Alpha must accompany his Omega.
“In the afternoon, anytime.” As he spoke, An Xiangdi slowly burrowed deeper under the covers.
“I’ll go with you.”
“Were you not planning to come with me?” An Xiangdi raised an eyebrow.
“Of course, I will.” Shen Xiao silently sent a message to Cheng Youyi.
Shen Xiao: I won’t be attending tomorrow’s meeting.
Rich First-Gen: ???
Rich First-Gen: Bro, you just took over, and you’re already skipping meetings?
Shen Xiao: Your sister-in-law has a prenatal check-up. Rich First-Gen:
Rich First-Gen: You and sis go ahead and flyI’ ll always have your back!
The next afternoon, An Xiangdi and Shen Xiao, both heavily disguised, followed the private doctor through the staff entrance of Zongming Municipal Hospital.
The doctor had arranged all the necessary tests in advance, and An Xiangdi was given a “Pregnant Husband Health Handbook.” The handbook listed the dates for future prenatal check-ups and the required tests.
“Your physical condition is well-maintained so far. Keep it up. Come back for a blood test in the 16th week, and remember to bring this handbook with you,” the private doctor said, adjusting his glasses as he went through each item.
“Can’t the prenatal check-ups be done at home?” Shen Xiao didn’t want An Xiangdi to go through the hassle of coming to the hospital every time.
“No,” the private doctor replied firmly. “New fathers often have this misconception. Drop that terrible idea.”
Shen Xiao, the new father, had nothing to say in response.
An Xiangdi sat to the side, covering his mouth to stifle a laugh.
The private doctor turned his attention back to An Xiangdi. “Has your heat cycle not arrived yet this time?”
“Ah yes, that’s right.” An Xiangdi nodded.
Reminded by his private doctor, he finally recalled the matter he had been neglecting.
Because his perception of pheromones had unconsciously returned to normal, he had previously gone to Dr. Qiao’s clinic for a re-examination. Although a blood test couldn’t be performed due to his pregnancy, a conclusion could still be drawn based on scent alone.
Now that it was mentioned, his last heat had been during the filming of “Hidden Eyes.” Logically, three months had passed, and his heat should have arrived in July.
“It’s normal. During pregnancy, the heat cycle may be irregularly delayed, but it shouldn’t be delayed for more than a month,” the private doctor said while noting the situation in An Xiangdi’s medical record. “Pay a little more attention to yourself recently. When your heat arrives, make sure your Alpha is by your side.”
“Can we have sex?” Shen Xiao asked bluntly.
An Xiangdi felt embarrassed by his Alpha’s straightforwardness.
“Of course, the Alpha’s pheromones are beneficial to the fetus in the Omega’s womb. Just remember to keep the movements gentle.”
“Okay.”
For some reason, An Xiangdi felt like Shen Xiao’s eyes were gleaming with a green light.
