After Getting Married to My Obsessive Older Sister - Chapter 50
Chapter 50
The thin veil was lifted. Chu Yiqiao wrapped her arms around Tan Ze’s slender waist, raised her face, and covered Tan Ze’s pale pink lips with hers.
She kept her eyes open, able to see how Tan Ze’s expression softened and became gentle. Tan Ze’s features, usually so cold, seemed to obey their owner’s will, appearing incomparably tender under the pale yellow light.
Chu Yiqiao delicately licked the tip of Tan Ze’s tongue, feeling a supreme sense of contentment inside.
Fireworks, a ring, a proposal, or anything else, in Chu Yiqiao’s mind, were merely embellishments to Tan Ze’s affection for her. They were nice to have, but not essential.
They now shared a secret, and Chu Yiqiao felt a tighter bond with Tan Ze, as if she was finally allowed a glimpse into the inner world that her sister had always kept locked away from her.
In Chu Yiqiao’s mind, Tan Ze had always been a god-like presence, synonymous with home and security. Her sister was always stable, her sister was the most incredible person in the world, and her sister could solve any problem.
Whether holding or being held, Chu Yiqiao felt she wasn’t alone in the world when she was with Tan Ze, not drifting aimlessly like duckweed.
The evening of April 23rd remained sacred and unforgettable in Chu Yiqiao’s mind, but this time, what she remembered wasn’t just her sister’s exquisite, perfect profile and her warm, reassuring embrace. It was also her sister’s fleeting surprise, the slight trembling of her fingers when she put the ring on her, and the compensatory tenderness that followed.
Chu Yiqiao had always understood Tan Ze’s strength as a factory setting, something innate and to be taken for granted.
Now, that belief experienced a subtle shift.
Chu Yiqiao held Tan Ze tighter. The small bouquet of roses was crushed between them, pressing against Chu Yiqiao’s lower abdomen, squashed by their bodies attempting to move even closer.
Tan Ze intensified the pace of the kiss, kissing fiercely and urgently, as if the suppressed desire that had been building up for a long time was finally allowed to spill out all at once onto Chu Yiqiao’s soft lips.
Faint sounds of flowers dropping and Chu Yiqiao’s soft gasps reached her ears, followed by a subtle metallic taste of blood that spread through their intertwined mouths before gradually fading.
Tan Ze tentatively kissed the small wound. Chu Yiqiao was afraid of pain and instantly let out a gasp, her eyes red as she glared at Tan Ze.
Half a minute later, the ceremony hall door was opened again. A uniformed staff member peeked in, kindly reminding them: “Your service time is almost over. The next couple is waiting outside.”
Chu Yiqiao voluntarily let go of Tan Ze’s waist, covering her mouth with the back of her hand.
Those two lips felt like they had been bitten off by Tan Ze and no longer belonged to Chu Yiqiao—they were stinging, hot, and numb.
When she removed her hand, two faint streaks of blood were visible on the fair skin.
Chu Yiqiao frowned, presenting the evidence of the crime to Tan Ze: “Wife, it hurts!”
“I’ll disinfect it later.” Tan Ze expertly pulled a tissue from her pocket, grabbed Chu Yiqiao’s hand to wipe it clean, and then pulled her hand to lead her outside.
She had smiled a little too much today. She turned her head, her face still bearing a smile: “What are you planning to eat for lunch?”
Chu Yiqiao named a restaurant.
Rarely, Tan Ze refused.
“We’ll go there tonight. The reservation is already set,” Tan Ze said to Chu Yiqiao, who was in the passenger seat looking at a small mirror, as she helped her into the car and fastened her seatbelt. “Let’s eat something light for lunch first.”
“How is it?” Tan Ze didn’t realize how gentle her tone was when she said this, as if she were coaxing a child. When she leaned over to buckle Chu Yiqiao’s seatbelt herself, she also didn’t realize how mushy the gesture was, as if the small cut on her lip had caused Chu Yiqiao so much pain that she couldn’t even buckle her own seatbelt and required an urgent “Sister, help me” or “Wife, help me.”
Chu Yiqiao nodded. In the end, they went home and ate vegetable and lean meat congee cooked by Tan Ze, accompanied by stir-fried meat.
Only today did Chu Yiqiao learn that the bowl of congee she had declared “so delicious” a month ago in Linhang was also cooked by Tan Ze.
After a morning had passed, Chu Yiqiao transformed from a carefree single youth into a married person with a family. Coupled with the small secret she was keeping for Tan Ze in her heart, she felt she had instantly matured and finally accepted that the world did not revolve around just the two of them.
They were indeed married, but because it was Wednesday, Chu Yiqiao still had to go back to the studio to paint for her portfolio, and Tan Ze still had documents to review and executives to meet.
Tan Ze drove Chu Yiqiao to the North Gate of Jing University. Chu Yiqiao was looking down, painstakingly photoshopping the picture they had just taken at home, holding their marriage certificate. She zoomed in on the photo with two fingers, removing the wound on her lip as if she were painting.
“All edited!” Chu Yiqiao sent the photo to Tan Ze, emphasizing: “You have to pin it to the top of your Moments!” (WeChat’s social feed)
Tan Ze received the photo. In the picture, Chu Yiqiao’s lips were rosy and full. She looked up, and the real-life Chu Yiqiao’s lips were injured and pitiful.
Tan Ze genuinely exclaimed: “Very impressive.”
“Hmph, I can’t stand you, Sister,” Chu Yiqiao had already adopted the persona of a virtuous wife: “It’s a good thing I’m good at editing pictures, or we wouldn’t have been able to make our official announcement today.”
Getting married on a Wednesday was Chu Yiqiao’s idea. If the check-up results hadn’t arrived at 6 PM on Tuesday, after the Bureau of Civil Affairs had closed, Chu Yiqiao probably would have made Tan Ze speed-drive her to get married.
So, even though the newlyweds were about to be separated (25 km! 4 hours!), Chu Yiqiao was very mature and didn’t complain. Her brown tote bag was filled with festive, red Wangzai milk candies, which she planned to share with her classmates later.
In return, Tan Ze’s well-fitting trench coat was also stuffed full of milk candies by Chu Yiqiao. The elegant, flowing hem of the trench coat was weighed down by the ‘weight of happiness.’
From the back, her tall, slender figure had two small bulges, and she could no longer maintain an air of aloofness.
At 6 PM, Tan Ze arrived punctually at the North Gate of Jing University. Chu Yiqiao ran to the car with her still-heavy backpack and excitedly shared the gifts she had received in return with Tan Ze.
Opening the bag, there was a medley of fruits, snacks, and sticky notes with blessings. Tan Ze expertly took the bag and put it in the back seat. She had more tidying up to do tonight.
The restaurant Tan Ze booked wasn’t on Chu Yiqiao’s “Personal Red List of Top N Must-Eat Restaurants in Yanjing.” It rarely accepted external reservations and was usually used for business or hosting foreign guests. Chu Yiqiao followed Tan Ze into the elevator, watching the number on the small screen on the top right jump all the way to 35.
With a “ding,” the door opened. Chu Yiqiao stepped out first. The immediate impression was one of spaciousness. Large, curved floor-to-ceiling windows offered a panoramic view. The sky was darkening, and the round sun was half-hidden behind distant silver skyscrapers. The entire scene felt like a frame from a movie.
The sky-high restaurant, large enough to serve as a ballroom, was empty except for the staff, Tan Ze, and Chu Yiqiao. Any fool could guess what was about to happen next.
Chu Yiqiao ate distractedly, chewing and chewing, completely unaware of the taste of the food in her mouth.
Tan Ze asked her how the food tasted; Chu Yiqiao nodded. Asked if she wanted more dishes; Chu Yiqiao nodded. Asked if she was full; Chu Yiqiao nodded.
Tan Ze sighed: “Are these leftovers for me to eat this time?”
Chu Yiqiao finally reacted, nodding guiltlessly: “I genuinely can’t eat anymore. Thank you, Wife.”
The “Wife” took it and silently finished the food.
Chu Yiqiao felt no guilt whatsoever. Tan Ze had no idea how much Chu Yiqiao was sacrificing! Bringing her newlywed wife to a restaurant like this was clearly for that reason, wasn’t it?
She sat quietly across from Tan Ze, staring blankly as Tan Ze slowly ate her remaining portion of the meal, elegantly pulling her napkin to wipe her mouth.
It was nearly 8 PM. The sky outside the massive floor-to-ceiling windows was completely black. Due to the altitude, the entire surrounding area was visible. Chu Yiqiao turned to gaze at the starry night sky outside, silently counting down in her mind.
“Chu Yiqiao?” Tan Ze suddenly spoke.
Chu Yiqiao was ready to put on a surprised expression. She turned around. Tan Ze had, at some point, presented a new jewelry box, held in the same posture as when she handed Chu Yiqiao the menu before the meal.
Chu Yiqiao hesitantly took it. The moment she opened the lid, her feigned surprise turned into genuine confusion.
Inside was a new ring. The main stone was a perfectly cut, multifaceted blue sapphire, surrounded by three circles of small diamonds. The overall style was very similar to the one Chu Yiqiao had accidentally taken from the safe before, but this one felt heavier and its design was simpler.
“Sister?” Chu Yiqiao took the ring out, simultaneously raising her left hand to show Tan Ze her beloved existing ring: “I already have a ring.”
Tan Ze slightly pursed her lips: “You can alternate wearing them. You can wear this one at home, and take pictures with it.”
Chu Yiqiao accepted this well. It wasn’t illegal to buy ten wedding rings, after all. She immediately put it on and happily enslaved her wife to help her take pictures.
Even after getting married, Chu Yiqiao’s favorite pose was still the peace sign. She wanted photos of the front and the back.
“I want that especially melancholic, youthful feeling!” Chu Yiqiao tried hard to describe it to Tan Ze: “The one that’s super classy.”
Tan Ze nodded, though she didn’t quite understand.
Chu Yiqiao sat on the chair with her back to Tan Ze. Her outfit today was chosen by Tan Ze and was quite form-fitting. As the surrounding lights dimmed, her silhouette was slender, indeed giving her the look of a romantic film heroine.
Tan Ze took a picture. Looking at Chu Yiqiao’s frail silhouette in the viewfinder, she secretly, secretly, flashed a peace sign above Chu Yiqiao’s head as she was posing.
She no longer looked like the ‘pained heroine’ now, but an idiot.
Just then, the sky outside was instantly lit up. Fireworks of various colors sequentially bloomed before her eyes. Chu Yiqiao’s acting, which she had been preparing for so long, finally came in handy. She gasped and looked back, surprised to find Tan Ze also gazing out the window, standing motionless.
Although the two were in a windless indoor space, Chu Yiqiao somehow felt the hair near Tan Ze’s ears was swaying.
“Wife,” Chu Yiqiao called out.
She walked over. Tan Ze blinked, her gaze gently settling on Chu Yiqiao.
When Chu Yiqiao stood in front of her, Tan Ze took her hand out of her pocket and opened it. Two red milk candies rested quietly in her palm.
As if afraid of Chu Yiqiao’s complaint, Tan Ze quickly clarified: “I saved these specially. They’re not the leftovers from what I couldn’t hand out.”
“Alright,” Chu Yiqiao admitted she was pleased. She smiled, took the candies from Tan Ze’s palm, and immediately unwrapped one to put it in her mouth.
Just like in the office, they struggled to squeeze onto one chair. Chu Yiqiao was embraced by Tan Ze, with both the holding and the being held giving her a sense of security.
Chu Yiqiao spoke the line she had prepared: “Sister, there are fireworks… they’re so beautiful.”
Tan Ze looked at the specifically requested ‘heart-shaped design’ outside the window and said: “It’s probably a promotion by a nearby mall.”
Chu Yiqiao chuckled: “Is that so? Then we’re really lucky!”
Perhaps Wednesday was an auspicious day for fireworks. After watching the fireworks at the sky-high restaurant nestled in Tan Ze’s arms, they returned home. As they finished showering, fireworks just happened to be going off outside their riverside penthouse apartment.
Chu Yiqiao looked at Tan Ze. Tan Ze was wearing soft cotton pajamas, her long hair draped over her shoulders, looking like a neighbor: “Perhaps there’s a mall promotion here too.”
They were still in the living room when she said this. Chu Yiqiao nodded, and then instantly clung to Tan Ze again. She had recently become particularly fond of burying her face in Tan Ze’s chest. On one hand, the height made it convenient, and on the other, Chu Yiqiao found that Tan Ze’s scent was different from hers. She couldn’t describe it, but it was strangely reassuring.
The fireworks outside continued. Behind the transparent balcony door, the faint crackling of the fireworks was gradually drowned out by the rapid and sweet gasping sounds from inside.
Chu Yiqiao was carried by Tan Ze and placed on the dining table. The initially cold tabletop was gradually warmed by their body heat. Tan Ze propped herself up with her hands on Chu Yiqiao’s knees, kissing quickly and urgently. Her usually cold and beautiful features were soon covered in a lovely sheen of sweat.
Chu Yiqiao tilted her head back, watching the fixed ceiling light sway back and forth in her vision.
“Wife! Wife, don’t bite!”
The plea resulted in the opposite effect. Technically, Tan Ze wasn’t biting. She had already broken Chu Yiqiao’s lip earlier today, so there was no need for another one. She was merely sucking and pressing. Chu Yiqiao was just too delicate, unable to handle this much passion.
Why hadn’t she improved at all? Tan Ze felt the intensity of Chu Yiqiao’s grip on her shoulder increasing, even though they had accumulated so much experience.
Besides, Chu Yiqiao’s words couldn’t be entirely trusted. She acted as if she couldn’t take it, but in reality, she absolutely loved it. Tan Ze, accustomed to having to personally verify everything to be satisfied, pushed even harder.
!
Then came a very distinct gulping sound. Chu Yiqiao, breathing heavily, had her arms wrapped around Tan Ze’s neck. Her eye corners and cheeks were flushed red. Tan Ze was kissing Chu Yiqiao’s neck, the sensitive area near her heart bringing more delicate shivers, prolonging the exquisite contact.
Chu Yiqiao was fed a lot of water mid-session. Tan Ze first used the insulated cup with a straw, the one they used during their hike, patting Chu Yiqiao’s back as she watched her drink.
Later, they moved to the balcony door. Chu Yiqiao had never imagined the chair by the coffee table had that function, wedged between the armrests. Tan Ze switched to a regular open-mouth cup to continue feeding Chu Yiqiao.
Chu Yiqiao drank half of the 500ml bottle of water. The other half spilled down her chin. Her fringe was wet, and her thin pajamas were also wet, clinging to her body and outlining her beautiful youthful figure.
Tan Ze kissed Chu Yiqiao’s lips. The kiss after the intimacy was always very gentle, a well-deserved reward for the compliant and adorable Chu Yiqiao.
Tan Ze treated Chu Yiqiao’s lips like a lollipop. She might have thought she was holding back, but Chu Yiqiao was still left blank-minded by the kiss. She retaliated by biting Tan Ze’s lip, and the familiar metallic taste of blood spread through their mouths again.
In the end, this proved to be an ineffective method. Chu Yiqiao merely provoked Tan Ze’s even pettier desire for revenge. She was picked up like a cotton doll by Tan Ze, her bent legs dangling bonelessly around Tan Ze’s waist.
The next second, her back hit the cold wall. Tan Ze reverted to her usual efficiency. Human and technology alternated, but unfortunately, Chu Yiqiao was only flesh and blood. She passed out before Tan Ze could carry her back to the room, thus regrettably missing the word “Wife” that Tan Ze called out to her.
