- Chapter 25 - The Clarification Plan
After hanging up the phone, someone sent him a friend request. The verification message read: “I am Shi Fu.” Even without checking, Sang Luo knew who it was, as no one else had his private contact details.
Upon accepting the request, Shi Fu sent a message.
[Shi Fu: Do not rush to clarify. Wait a little longer.] [Sang Luo: Yes.]
He did not ask why; he instinctively felt that Shi Fu would not harm him.
[Shi Fu: I know these things do not affect you and you do not care, but you must understand that this is vital for your future. You must follow CEO Huo’s arrangements.]
Sang Luo paused. He felt as though Shi Fu was genuinely concerned about him, even though they had only just met. He did not dwell on it and instead went online to check the trending topics.
Essentially, someone had leaked that Sang Luo’s original company, Wenkai Entertainment, had given him their best resources, yet he had terminated his contract just before joining the dating show. Once he gained fame through the show, he quickly signed with a new company, Huo Xun’s Star Media.
The posts were written to paint Wenkai Entertainment as a company that deeply valued Sang Luo and provided excellent treatment, while depicting Sang Luo as an ungrateful white-eyed wolf. They even claimed the 9403 dating show was Wenkai’s biggest resource. Allegedly, after Sang Luo terminated his contract, Wenkai tried to reclaim the invitation, but Sang Luo refused to return it.
The news stunned everyone. Under the deliberate orchestration of those behind the scenes, the general public’s goodwill toward Sang Luo turned into disgust. Some fans even believed the rumors, turning into anti-fans and cursing Sang Luo for being shameless.
Currently, public opinion was heavily against him. Star Media, which had been monitoring the situation, quickly informed Huo Xun. Initially, Star Media had noticed the trending topics, but because Huo Xun had given no instructions, they had not intervened. It was only when Huo Xun failed to contact them that they realized he might not have known.
Upon being informed, Huo Xun immediately called a meeting. The consensus among the others was to endure for now, wait until the topic reached its peak popularity, and then clarify. At that moment, Huo Xun’s eyes were bloodshot, looking as though they might bleed. He knew this was the most effective solution, but he could not bear to let others insult Sang Luo so freely. He was in constant agony, yet he could only watch it happen.
“Brother, I know you are reluctant, but sometimes you have to lose something to gain more.”
Huo Xun’s voice was hoarse, but he remained stubborn. “I need his consent.”
His meaning was clear: he would only proceed if Sang Luo agreed.
“I understand.”
After the call ended, Huo Xun leaned back on the sofa, closing his eyes to rest. For a brief moment, he drifted off and fell into a dream. Huo Xun looked at the many soldiers before him and the crumbling city gates, feeling momentarily dazed. Then, someone called out to him: “Crown Prince, the Emperor of the Yun Kingdom has been brought forth.”
Huo Xun looked over uncontrollably. He saw a man covered in blood, staring back at him with autumn-water peach-blossom eyes. At that moment, Huo Xun was shaken to his core because the person was none other than Sang Luo. He wanted to say something, but he could not control his body. He realized he was merely an observer.
He heard someone snicker, “Your Highness, this Emperor of Yun is quite good-looking. Why not reward him to us?”
Others joined in the jeering. “Yes, Your Highness. He is a death-row prisoner anyway. Why not let us enjoy ourselves?”
“Silence!” Huo Xun heard himself shout. “Stop thinking about such things all day. Take this person away for now.”
“Your Highness, this Emperor has committed countless crimes, and the people have suffered under his rule. Everyone has long been disgusted by this dog emperor! Furthermore, he was the one who first attacked our Jiang Kingdom. Should we not execute him on the spot to appease the souls of our fallen soldiers?”
“Take him away first.” Huo Xun clearly saw the hatred for Sang Luo in the others’ eyes.
The man was dragged away by his hair. Despite being treated this way, he only smiled at Huo Xun and said, “Long time no see.”
Huo Xun woke up with a start. The dream was incredibly realistic, as if it had actually happened. He remembered the sound of the wind in the dust so clearly that it made him shudder. Once awake, he desperately wanted to know the fate of the Emperor of Yun in that dream. Given the soldiers’ attitude, his end would likely not be peaceful. What puzzled Huo Xun was why that person looked exactly like Sang Luo. Could it be?
Huo Xun pushed the thought aside and sent a message asking Sang Luo to come over to discuss matters. Sang Luo did not delay and knocked on the door shortly after. When the door opened, he immediately noticed Huo Xun’s extremely pale complexion.
“Are you unwell?” Sang Luo asked, though his eyes remained distant and cold.
The words caught in Huo Xun’s throat. After a moment, he said hoarsely, “It is nothing. Come in.”
He poured a glass of warm water for Sang Luo. “You likely know about the trending topics. We have gathered the evidence. The company has two solutions.”
“First, ignore it for now to attract maximum attention, then clarify by revealing Wenkai’s true face.” “Second, clarify immediately.”
Sang Luo nodded calmly. “Which one does the company prefer?”
Huo Xun could not lie. He said with some difficulty, “The first one.”
“Then let it be the first one.” Sang Luo took a sip of the warm water. His pale lips instantly gained a luster, and his whole being seemed highlighted.
Huo Xun wanted to say more, but looking into Sang Luo’s bottomless dark eyes, he found himself speechless. In this moment, the youth before him overlapped with the person in his dream, becoming incredibly vivid.
“Alright. We will do as you say.”
Sang Luo took another sip of water and coughed twice.
“Do you have a cold?” Huo Xun asked with concern. “Does your head hurt?”
“It is nothing.” Suppressing the itch in his throat, Sang Luo shook his head. He might have caught a chill last night while standing in the wind for a long time. He did not mention this and brushed it off.
“I will send you some materials. Take a look later.”
Huo Xun lowered his head to use his phone, unaware that Sang Luo was standing right behind him. By the time he realized, it was too late; the Good night message in the chat box had not been deleted. In that moment, time seemed to stretch, leaving only the sound of the person’s breathing behind him. The room was silent, and Huo Xun’s mind went blank. Every night, he typed Good night to Sang Luo, but he never sent it. It was a private secret, one he sometimes found a hidden joy in. He thought this secret would never see the light of day, yet now it had been discovered.
Sang Luo watched silently for a long while before finally tossing the disposable cup into the trash. He had intended to get more water but had seen this instead. An indescribable feeling washed over him. He turned to leave, leaving behind only one sentence: “I will look at them.”
The door shut out everything. Huo Xun covered his eyes with one hand, blocking the piercing light. He must have done something terrible to Sang Luo in a previous life to be tormented like this in this one. He did not know when he had become so weak. Perhaps it was the very moment he saw Sang Luo again.
[THE END]
