- Chapter 17 - The Meaning of the CP Name
Huo Xun did not understand the meaning of that dream. Once awake, he could not even recall the face of the young boy, remembering only those ink-colored eyes. He took a deep breath as scenes from yesterday’s performance with Sang Luo flashed before him, making him feel suffocated once again. He told no one that the aftereffects of acting with Sang Luo were far too intense.
Even though it was just a play, it felt as though something similar had truly happened. It was terrifyingly realistic. He felt he had seen Sang Luo’s deathly, silent expression before. He wondered if something was wrong with himself or the script. That strange sense of trance lingered like a haze that refused to dissipate.
Scrolling through his phone, he stopped at a certain number. After a moment of hesitation, he dialed. The phone rang for a long time before someone picked up.
“Brother, what is it?” The man’s voice was clear and soothing.
Huo Xun checked the time. “Did you write the script, or did you find someone else to do it?”
“I wrote it. Why? Did something happen?” The voice sounded puzzled.
“Did you not say you were busy?” Huo Xun leaned against the bedside table, his voice low.
“You dumped the company on me, so I was busy. But I suddenly felt inspired one night and wrote it,” the man paused. “What is really going on?”
Huo Xun stared ahead, deep in thought. “Nothing. I was just asking. It is well-written. Thank you for the hard work.”
“No problem. I have not had a chance to see your performance yet. Did it go smoothly?”
“Yes.”
“Alright, I am hanging up. I have a meeting.”
“Okay.” Huo Xun placed the phone on the table and picked up a cigarette but did not light it.
In contrast to Huo Xun, Sang Luo showed no reaction after his initial strangeness upon seeing the script. Perhaps he had a reaction, but his expression was always so indifferent that it was impossible to tell.
Breakfast was prepared by An Yushu. Huo Xun was not around when Sang Luo came downstairs. He initially wanted to decline An Yushu’s food, but the latter insisted. Sang Luo looked at the sandwich and thanked him. An Yushu’s eyes lit up instantly with joy.
Sang Luo felt a bit guilty. Making a sandwich was not difficult, but An Yushu had burned his finger while frying the egg. Sang Luo had sharp eyes; even though An Yushu tried to hide it, he saw the injury.
“Have you eaten?”
An Yushu smiled unnaturally. “Yes.”
Sang Luo looked at him, cut the sandwich in half, and handed one piece over. “Let us eat together.”
“Alright. Thank you.”
An Yushu was the one who made it, yet he was the one saying thank you. Sang Luo did not quite understand, but he accepted it; people are complex and different. The sandwich was neither delicious nor terrible. After eating, Sang Luo prepared to treat An Yushu’s burn. He found the burn ointment in the first-aid kit in the living room and applied it carefully.
Sang Luo kept his eyes lowered, looking very serious. An Yushu could see that iconic red mole without even looking down, and his heart raced. Huo Xun came downstairs just in time to see this. He gripped his water glass so hard that the veins on his hand bulged. His lips were pursed, and his brow was clouded with gloom.
A moment later, he relaxed his grip, his eyes dimming. Huo Xun’s narrow eyes drooped slightly, making him look somewhat aggrieved. The three of them were alone in the living room, and the cameras captured every reaction.
[An An is like a little wife, and Luo Luo is so doting! I am done with the schedule; Luo-Yu is the only way!] [Actually, Luo Luo is not as submissive as An An. A cold but soft-hearted lead? I am in.] [Wait, is no one noticing Movie King Huo? He looks so sad.] [I see it! Is the Xun-Zhao CP destined for tragic romance?] [Who gets it? Even Movie King Huo has moments like this. My heart is melting; I would give him the stars and the moon!] [To the person who said Movie King Huo treats everyone the same: please bring your eyes next time.] [I am speechless. CEO Huo is so good to Sang Luo, yet Sang Luo remains so cold. What, does he have to take out his heart for you to see it?] [He is just stringing Movie King Huo along. Acting all cold, I think he is just a player.] [Is a relationship not between two people? Should someone respond even if they do not like the other person?] [I do not think it is that special. It is just the ambiguous stage; he is not even courting him. Is there a problem with wanting to be good to someone you like?]
Some of Huo Xun’s fans felt sorry for him, even though he quickly hid his disappointment. As for the CP name given to Huo Xun and Sang Luo, it was Xun-Zhao. Sang Luo means fading mulberry leaves, and Xun means to seek. It implied that even if you fade among many fallen leaves, I will still find you.
Regardless of the comments, the parties involved showed no reaction. They sat on the sofa, clearly keeping their distance. Today was Friday, and there were no tasks. Although filming lasted three weeks, there was no filming on weekends. The last day of the week was free time, and they only needed to return by the following Monday.
The other guests entered the room. Before leaving, the production team had to announce the rankings for the script performances. The team had invited famous directors, a move funded by Huo Xun. If Sang Luo were recognized by these directors, he would never have to worry about finding work. The directors provided their critiques via a large screen in the living room as they were busy on their own sets.
The rankings were announced:
- First Place: Sang Luo and Huo Xun with a 200 yuan reward.
- Second Place: Bai Chen and Liu Zhiya with a 150 yuan reward.
- Third Place: Qin Yibing and Chu Yuqing with a 100 yuan reward.
- Fourth Place: Chen Jing and An Yushu with a 50 yuan reward.
The critiques for the first few groups were standard. Although Bai Chen was a Movie King, he was restricted by a mediocre script and could not perform beyond its framework. As for Sang Luo and Huo Xun, the directors gave excellent reviews. Sang Luo in particular earned high praise from Director Xu, who even asked about his future schedule.
Upon learning that Sang Luo had already terminated his previous contract and was a free agent, the directors were surprised but expressed interest in future collaborations. They advised Sang Luo to focus solely on honing his acting skills. They were not worried about the rest; since Huo Xun had invited them, it was obvious that Sang Luo would eventually sign with Star Media.
[THE END]
