The dating show 9403 had once again claimed a spot on the trending searches.
#Famous Actress Slacks Off During Task, I Will Not Say Who#
The comments section was a riot, filled with people laughing.
[Oh, it is just that certain someone. I just went from fan to hater yesterday.]
[Oh, I get it. That certain someone. No surprise there; this trending topic was practically made for her. Her fans still will not admit it, though. Oops! My bad, I did not mean your precious Yaya. Do not attack me, I am so scared.]
[Oh, I know too. Pure green tea. I can smell the tea through the screen. Even a century-old tea cake would see her and say, “Now that is high quality!”]
[I saw her with my own eyes in the livestream trying to hook up with a big shot. Just to clarify, I did not say Big Shot Huo, and none of you are allowed to tell him or tag him. Otherwise, if that certain someone’s fans find out, they will shamelessly come back to leech off him and talk about “true love.” I would vomit up last year’s dinner.]
[Do not worry, sis, we definitely will not tell Big Shot Huo that certain someone wants to hook up with him.]
[Comment away, sisters! We are with you. I gave you a like so your comment stays prominent in the thread.]
They might as well have shouted Liu Zhiya’s name out loud.
The cause of it all was Liu Zhiya’s behavior toward the cameraman during her run. She did not dare say anything explicitly, but she was full of subtle complaints, claiming heatstroke one moment, leg pain the next, and lamenting how a girl could be expected to do such a task.
The fans in the livestream were speechless. They began firing off sarcastic remarks that were as cutting as they were funny. Unfazed, Liu Zhiya strutted around with a parasol, touching up her makeup and stopping to admire the flowers. She ran for a total of only a few minutes, annoying the cameraman to no end. Since he had to stand outside in the sweltering heat with her, the cameraman showed no mercy and broadcast every second of it. That was how the trending search was born.
In short, it was pure drama. However, Liu Zhiya’s die-hard fans refused to see it that way, offering illogical defenses that made them look like a joke. At this moment, Liu Zhiya was still unaware of the backlash. The guests only received their phones back in the evening; for the rest of the day, they were essentially cut off from the internet.
In the afternoon, Bai Chen suggested checking out the game room on the fifth floor of the villa since they all had free time. No one objected, and even Sang Luo joined them. Usually, Sang Luo preferred staying in his room, but feeling that it might be perceived as rude, he occasionally came down. Since he happened to catch Bai Chen’s suggestion, he had no reason to refuse. Sang Luo wondered if it truly was a coincidence or if Bai Chen had planned it, but he remained silent. Regardless of the truth, he had his own suspicions.
The fifth floor was the game room, packed with a dizzying array of arcade machines. Chen Jing was a master at livening up the mood, hopping from one game to another. Following his lead, the others began to explore as well.
Sang Luo walked toward the very end of the room, looking around with a lack of interest. In truth, he wanted to go back to his room to read. He had brought several books on acting and some films with him. That web drama he had been in only worked well because it happened to align with his past identity, but he did not want to stop there; he wanted to reach the next level.
He calculated the time in his head. The variety show would end in a little over two weeks, not too long, but not short either. Through his research, he already knew that Star Media, under Huo Xun, was his best option. Not only because of the terms Huo Xun offered but also because their talent managers were leagues ahead of Fang Hai. He understood the contracts of this world; if he signed with Star, he believed Huo Xun would not breach the agreement. This was why he was considering it; Star offered enough freedom.
Of course, he would not take the favor for nothing. He intended to show his value and prove that Huo Xun’s choice was not a mistake.
“Want to play this?”
Bai Chen’s voice sounded beside his ear. Only then did Sang Luo realize he had unconsciously stopped in front of a claw machine.
“Take these.” Bai Chen pressed game coins into Sang Luo’s palm without waiting for an answer. “Give it a try.”
The coins felt cool. Sang Luo accepted them. “Thank you.” His voice was like a light breeze, devoid of ripples.
Sang Luo picked a machine at random. He knew the mechanics, but his experience was limited to swinging the hook. After several attempts, Sang Luo only managed to catch a single keychain, and even then, it had only snagged onto the hook by accident. After retrieving it, he saw it was a small cartoon panda. Sang Luo gave it a shake, a glint of silver reflecting in his eyes. It was a simple gesture, yet it was exceptionally eye-catching. Sang Luo’s fingers were slender, his pupils a pale ink-jade color, and his skin was as fine as white porcelain.
The light in Bai Chen’s eyes darkened, as if stained by ink, making his emotions impossible to read.
“This is so cute.”
A soft voice came from beside him. Sang Luo glanced over; it was An Yushu. The young man gave an embarrassed smile, his handsome face naturally evoking a sense of goodwill. “Sorry to bother you, I was just looking.”
“I will give it to you.”
Sang Luo handed it over, his clear peach-blossom eyes reflecting directly in An Yushu’s gaze.
“Th—thank you!” An Yushu’s face suddenly flushed red, and he began to stammer.
“Mm.” Sang Luo nodded. He bypassed Bai Chen and walked toward the second row of machines.
As he turned the corner, Chen Jing’s voice burst into his ears. “Wow! CEO Huo, you are seriously amazing! I admire you so much!”
Huo Xun did not answer. He was staring intently at a plushie inside the claw machine, his gaze like an unsheathed blade, unstoppable. As he moved, the smooth lines of his arm muscles suggested a hidden, immense strength. Liu Zhiya was standing beside him, adding her own supportive praise. “It really is impressive. I do not know how to play this at all.”
The scene reminded Sang Luo of his previous life. Huo Xun had been like this then too, accepting the admiring gazes of the crowd. Back then, Sang Luo had been a prisoner, while Huo Xun was the hero who saved the people, worshipped by everyone. Sang Luo had been wretched and covered in blood.
Sang Luo’s heart began an uncontrollable descent, as if falling into an endless abyss with no bottom. With a soft thud, Huo Xun finally caught the white plushie. It was a small cat, its proud, sitting posture looking remarkably like a certain person.
Sang Luo turned to leave, but unexpectedly, his wrist was caught.
“Do you like it?” Huo Xun’s eyes curved slightly. His narrow eyes, usually like a deep pool, suddenly looked like melting ice, rarely tender and shimmering with a smile.
Sang Luo’s heart gave a sudden thud. Subconsciously, he reached out and took it.
Huo Xun’s smile widened. “Which other one do you like? Tell me.”
Sang Luo’s ears were filled with Huo Xun’s low, soft voice. Anyone who heard it would feel as if they were being cherished. He kept his head down and did not speak. Huo Xun’s gaze lingered on the red mole at the end of Sang Luo’s eyebrow, then moved to the young man’s exquisite features.
“Which one?”
“None of them.” Sang Luo snapped back to his senses, his ink-colored eyes returning to their icy state.
Huo Xun did not press him further. “Alright. I am going to get some water.”
Sang Luo watched the man’s retreating back with a neutral gaze. No one knew what he was thinking.
[THE END]
