After Flirting with the God-Tier Beautiful Tycoon - Chapter 76.1
After a casual glance, Chen Yi sat in the car after He Zhong opened the door.
Shen Xiaojiang exhaled softly, her warm breath forming a faint white mist in the slightly chilly air.
But very quickly, that line of white mist dissipated.
The back door was opened, and the first thing that came into view was Chen Yi’s crossed, long legs slender, white, and dazzlingly beautiful.
This woman must be doing this on purpose, Shen Xiaojiang thought.
Just as she was about to get into the car, she suddenly paused. The space inside the car was enclosed, and the fragrance lingered persistently.
A faint, elegant woody cold scent seemed to have a life of its own, possessively rushing into her nostrils, seeping into every minute nerve, and traveling throughout her body.
She swallowed hard. Her previously fluid movements stopped, like an old machine that had suddenly jammed.
Chen Yi had one hand propped on the window frame and the other resting loosely on her lap.
At that moment, those light colored starry eyes slowly shifted, and the corners of her lips tugged slightly, yet she didn’t say a single word.
She was very quiet and very patient.
She didn’t rush Shen Xiaojiang she couldn’t bring herself to rush her. If possible, she even hoped time would move slower.
The car door closed, and Shen Xiaojiang waved to the people outside the window.
The car started, and she withdrew her hand, sitting upright and formal, as if it were her first time in this car.
Until the car drove out of the Sun family courtyard, neither of them said a word.
She hadn’t felt it before, but the silence now was truly awkward.
Shen Xiaojiang’s phone vibrated. She took it out and clicked on a message it was a photo of dinner sent by Bai Shuhua.
They were sitting on a palm fringed beach bathed in the afterglow of the sunset, eating barbecue and drinking California beer how pleasant.
Even through the screen, Shen Xiaojiang could almost smell the alcohol.
She was briefly rescued from this awkwardness.
Though rescued, she didn’t feel any sense of gratification.
Beside her, Chen Yi sat lazily, her gaze drifting toward Shen Xiaojiang intentionally or otherwise.
When she saw the slight upward curve of the other’s lips, that surge of sourness inexplicably rose up again, causing waves of discomfort in her chest.
With nothing to say, she turned her head to look out the window.
The neon lights in the rain were like the eyes of a crying girl red and increasingly moist.
The cold rain hit the glass car window just as it hit Chen Yi’s face, a raw and vivid pain.
Water droplets formed small lakes in the window grooves they filled up, overflowed, filled up again, and overflowed again, repeating in an endless cycle.
The rain seemed like it would never stop.
Shen Xiaojiang put away her phone and also propped one hand on the window frame, looking outside.
Unlike Chen Yi, she wasn’t looking at anything in particular she was just spacing out, staring blankly at some unknown spot.
Perhaps this way, she could appear more composed.
“Your hair got shorter.” In the quiet cabin, Chen Yi’s voice drifted over.
The car’s soundproofing was excellent, yet the sound of the fine, dense rain could still be heard.
Her voice, mixed with the sound of the rain, had an indescribable sexy haze to it.
Shen Xiaojiang couldn’t help but think of the time the two had kissed in the rain; the rainwater seeping into their mouths had been sweet.
That time, Chen Yi had asked her if everything she said was true, and she had replied that it was.
“Mm. Your hair got longer,” Shen Xiaojiang said.
From the window, Chen Yi looked at the blurred reflection of the person speaking. The hand propped against her head slowly lowered, her index finger pressing against the glass, tracing the person’s silhouette bit by bit.
Though she couldn’t see clearly, it was the image she loved.
“Mm,” she responded.
She didn’t know if Shen Xiaojiang heard her.
The two continued in silence, no longer communicating.
He Zhong, who was driving, had damp palms. He looked nervously in the rearview mirror at one then the other, not daring to speak or even breathe.
At a time like this, if he made even the slightest noise, it would practically be a crime.
The rest of the way was speechless.
The rain outside grew heavier, and the colored neon lights were like a glowing red horizon, sparkling and bright.
The fact that the two said nothing was driving He Zhong crazy with anxiety.
He only knew Shen Xiaojiang was going back to her rental apartment, but he didn’t know exactly where this mysterious apartment was.
The atmospheric pressure in the car was very low; nothing seemed quite right to say.
He slowed down the car, glancing at the rearview mirror while meaninglessly clearing his throat.
Chen Yi noticed He Zhong’s reaction. She withdrew her hand from the glass, rested her finger against her cheek, and asked neutrally: “What’s wrong?”
Shen Xiaojiang didn’t notice He Zhong and thought Chen Yi was asking her.
Her pupils flickered as she tried hard to remember why she had cut her hair.
There didn’t seem to be a special reason; she just wanted to cut it.
“I…”
Before she could speak, He Zhong spoke first: “Um, I don’t know where Miss Shen’s place is.”
Chen Yi noticed Shen Xiaojiang’s parting lips but ignored He Zhong, looking at her instead: “Shen Xiaojiang, what were you about to say just now?”
Xiaojiang bit her lip, her palm rubbing against the fabric of her pants as she looked up at He Zhong: “I was just about to say that too. My rental is in Sihang District.”
“Sihang District, Wutong Road, Emerald Garden,” she added.
Chen Yi’s brow furrowed almost imperceptibly. A memory from two months ago surfaced she had seen Shen Xiaojiang and Sun Jiabao coming out of a 24-hour convenience store side by side on the street.
So, she had moved there.
He Zhong acknowledged her, but didn’t step on the gas.
He continued to look at Chen Yi in the rearview mirror, seemingly waiting for her command.
“Mm, go ahead,” Chen Yi said.
Almost the very instant Chen Yi finished speaking, the car’s speed picked up.
Although Emerald Garden was an old community, its location was good and it was quite easy to find.
The security guard was nowhere to be seen. The car honked several times outside the gate, but no one came to open it.
“Just stop here. It’s only a few steps anyway; I’ll just run over,” Shen Xiaojiang said, reaching for her bag.
“I’ll walk you,” Chen Yi said while reaching for an umbrella.
The bag and the umbrella were very close together.
At that moment, their fingers touched without warning.
Time paused for a brief second.
As if startled, both of them pulled back simultaneously.
Neither knew that the other’s heart was racing.
“No need, thank you.” After saying that, Shen Xiaojiang pushed the door open as if escaping and ran into the rain.
Chen Yi looked at the departing figure, gritted her teeth, and followed her out of the car.
