After Flirting with the God-Tier Beautiful Tycoon - Chapter 71
Returning to the dormitory after 3:00 PM, Sun Jiabao was suddenly as hyper as if she’d been injected with chicken blood. After receiving a text from Shen Xiaojiang, she had been fussing in front of the mirror relentlessly.
When the dorm door opened, Shen Xiaojiang was dazzled by a chaotic explosion of colorful clothes.
“What’s going on?” she asked.
Sun Jiabao held a light pink short-sleeved shirt in her left hand and a pale grass green T-shirt in her right. Seeing Shen Xiaojiang, she immediately turned toward the door, her face lit with excitement.
“Ginger, you’re back just in time,” Sun Jiabao said, gesturing with the two shirts. “Quick, give me some advice. Which one should I wear?”
Shen Xiaojiang set down her bag, poured a glass of warm water, took two sips, and gave a faint reply: “Either is fine.”
Sun Jiabao, who had been glowing a moment ago, now knit her brows tightly. “Ginger, can you put a little heart into it?”
Hearing this, Shen Xiaojiang bit the rim of her cup and looked seriously for a few seconds. “Um… truly, either is fine.”
Sun Jiabao winked and nudged her. “Are you still my bestie? Can you give me at least one constructive opinion? Hmm?”
She grabbed a rose-pink denim skirt and paired it with the light pink shirt. “How about this set?”
She looked, for all intents and purposes, like a human peach.
Shen Xiaojiang’s eyes flickered slightly. “This… what kind of look is this?”
“Huh?”
“Isn’t the color… a bit much?”
Sun Jiabao gave Shen Xiaojiang a look of friendly disdain. “Oh my, you really don’t get it, do you?”
“Get what?”
“It’s very popular right now Dopamine Dressing.”
Dopamine?
Shen Xiaojiang: “…”
Looking at Sun Jiabao’s face, then at the entirely pink outfit, Shen Xiaojiang wore an expression that said, ‘As long as you’re happy.’
“Do you want to wear the other set?” Sun Jiabao pointed to the grass-green T-shirt and dark green skirt draped over the back of the chair.
Shen Xiaojiang shook her head like a rattle.
She didn’t have special requirements for clothes she wouldn’t dress in a vulgar or dated way, but she wouldn’t blindly follow trends either. Dopamine dressing looked good, but it didn’t suit her.
Looking at her own light gray T-shirt and black straight leg cargo pants, she felt just fine.
“Ready to go?” she asked Sun Jiabao.
“Ready, ready. Just let me touch up my makeup.” With that, Sun Jiabao pulled an array of complex cosmetics out of a knitted clutch bag.
Bored, Shen Xiaojiang walked over to her side, looking at this and poking that, filled with curiosity.
“What, you like it?” Sun Jiabao asked, sweeping a makeup brush lightly across her cheek.
Shen Xiaojiang smiled faintly but didn’t answer. She didn’t like makeup, nor did she know how to apply it. She set down the pile of bottles and jars she couldn’t name and leaned against the wardrobe door with her arms crossed.
After several steps, Sun Jiabao’s face was whiter, and her lashes looked thicker. Then, she fished a lipstick out of her bag.
Shen Xiaojiang’s dull gaze instantly lit up.
Noticing her expression, Sun Jiabao handed the lipstick over. “Want to wear some?”
Shen Xiaojiang stared at the lipstick case as if frozen, motionless.
“Do you want me to help?” Sun Jiabao blinked at her.
A flash of a memory crossed Shen Xiaojiang’s mind someone else once applying lipstick for her. She snapped back to reality and quickly pushed Sun Jiabao’s hand away. “Forget it. I’m not used to having things on my lips.”
After saying that, she turned and walked away.
Sun Jiabao showed her understanding. She carefully brushed a coat onto her own lips and packed her things away.
“OK. Let’s go.” With that, Sun Jiabao put on her black leather shoes and skipped along, hooking her arm through Shen Xiaojiang’s.
Just as they left the dorm, they saw a girl from another room in their class dragging a suitcase, heading home.
“Sun Jiabao, you look really pretty today,” the girl said.
Sun Jiabao, easily swayed by praise, looked triumphant. “I’m going shopping with my darling bestie, of course I have to dress up. Besides, when is this girl not looking good?”
“By the way, Xiaojiang, you haven’t gone home yet?” the girl turned to ask Shen Xiaojiang.
She gave a soft “Mm.” “In a while.”
“There aren’t many days left, the dorm will be locked down soon.” The girl walked side by side with Shen Xiaojiang.
“Yeah, I know,” Shen Xiaojiang looked at her. “I’m going out to look for an apartment now.”
“Renting? Short-term?”
Shen Xiaojiang nodded.
The girl scratched her chin, deep in thought. “You could go to the Sihang area. There are many rental agencies there. A girl in our dorm rented a place there, several of us went to see it, and it was quite nice.”
Sun Jiabao suddenly cut in: “Am I, a Nancheng local, just a decoration here?”
“Well, did you know about it?” Shen Xiaojiang asked.
Sun Jiabao gave a guilty smile. “I didn’t, but I do now.”
Shen Xiaojiang rolled her eyes.
The two took a taxi to the Sihang district and, following their classmate’s lead, arrived at the so-called “Rental Street.”
“Good grief, I’m a local and I didn’t even know Nancheng had a place like this?” Sun Jiabao combed her bangs, looking like a tourist.
They picked a random shop and walked in.
The air conditioning was set so low that Shen Xiaojiang shivered the moment she entered.
“Hello, beauties! Looking to rent?” A woman with an exploded perm wearing gold rings and bracelets walked over.
Shen Xiaojiang was about to speak, but Sun Jiabao stopped her.
She spoke in the local dialect: “Boss, are there any good listings right now? Convenient transport, good environment, and most importantly, the soundproofing must be good. We play games at night and don’t want to disturb the neighbors.”
Seeing a local, the boss’s expression lost a lot of its “salesy” edge. Locals knew the area well and weren’t easily fooled.
Shen Xiaojiang stood obediently behind Sun Jiabao, as if she wasn’t the one looking for a place at all. She finally understood why Sun Jiabao insisted on coming along she was afraid Xiaojiang would be overcharged or scammed.
The boss led them to a computer. “Nanhua District has a few units. The environment is nice, and it’s close to the subway…”
Sun Jiabao stood directly behind the boss. “Nanhua won’t work. Too many people, too noisy. Next one.”
The boss didn’t mind and switched to another: “Lijing is also good. Transport is convenient, and the key is that it’s close to University Town…”
“Tsk,” Sun Jiabao rejected it immediately. “What’s the use of being near University Town? We don’t work there. Besides, you have to wait over an hour for the subway there on average. Do you have a misunderstanding of the word ‘convenient’? Next.”
Shen Xiaojiang couldn’t help but look at Sun Jiabao. Bringing this local along was definitely the right choice.
The boss was clearly unhappy but held it in.
“Then this one must be fine. Century City, a new development…”
This time, before the boss could finish, Sun Jiabao interrupted: “Boss, Century City is very expensive. And the units there are generally tiny. This says eight units per floor, how many square meters would I actually get?”
The boss’s face was darker than Sun Jiabao’s black leather shoes. She looked collapsed. “This won’t work, that won’t work… then you tell me, where do you want to live?!”
Sun Jiabao rubbed the tip of her nose and looked at Shen Xiaojiang.
“Um… how should I know? You’re the boss,” she said.
The boss nearly choked. “You tell me, what are your conditions?”
“Just what I said. Good environment, good soundproofing, convenient transport, and not too expensive,” Sun Jiabao said seriously.
The boss, having hit a wall, asked, “Where do you work?”
“Where do we work?” Sun Jiabao asked Shen Xiaojiang.
“Near Century Jiayuan.” That location was close to both the pet shop and Wanning Electronics.
“That’s a hard area to rent in,” the boss said, playing hard to get.
With one look, Sun Jiabao started pulling Shen Xiaojiang toward the door.
“What’s wrong?” Shen Xiaojiang lowered her voice.
Sun Jiabao said nothing, only gesturing with her eyes. Shen Xiaojiang hadn’t quite decoded the signal when she heard the boss’s voice behind them: “Hey, hey, hey! I have them! I definitely have listings! Let me look!”
Sun Jiabao suppressed a laugh and dragged Shen Xiaojiang back to the computer.
After chatting for so long, the boss wanted to close the deal. Following their requirements, she found a place that met all the criteria.
It was an older complex called Emerald Garden. It wasn’t large, just two bedrooms, suitable for roommates. The landlord had renovated it, each room had its own bathroom and shower, and the walls had soundproofing materials so they wouldn’t disturb each other while moving around.
It was 900 yuan a month, with a one month deposit and one month’s rent upfront.
Shen Xiaojiang could accept this, so Sun Jiabao said nothing more.
After learning the location, they went back to school to get their things. With bags and boxes packed, by the time they finished moving, it was already past 8:00 PM.
With Sun Jiabao there, Shen Xiaojiang indeed found things much easier, avoiding many detours and unnecessary troubles.
“There are two keys. Do you want one?” Shen Xiaojiang asked.
Sun Jiabao collapsed onto the bed in a “starfish” position. “What do you think?”
Shen Xiaojiang smiled, carefully removed a key from the metal ring, and placed it next to Sun Jiabao’s handbag.
“I heard the room next door hasn’t been rented yet. It’s like you’re paying half price to live in a two person house alone. It’s actually pretty good.”
Shen Xiaojiang gave an “Mm.”
“So if I come over occasionally, you won’t get annoyed with me, right?”
Of course, Shen Xiaojiang didn’t mind.
Afraid Xiaojiang wouldn’t agree, Sun Jiabao added: “When I come, I’ll fill your fridge, order you takeout and milk tea, and if I play games, I’ll go out to the living room. Don’t worry.”
“Fine, just don’t disturb the neighbors,” Shen Xiaojiang laughed.
“Oof, I’m hungry.” Sun Jiabao sat up, rubbing her stomach.
While wiping the table, Shen Xiaojiang asked, “What do you want to eat? My treat.”
Sun Jiabao bit her fingernail and grinned mischievously. “Shin Ramyun.”
“Shin Ramyun again?” Shen Xiaojiang felt helpless.
“Yup!”
They went downstairs. Though the complex was a bit old, the overall environment was great, there were parks, 24-hour convenience stores, schools, bus stops, and a hospital nearby. A single bus stop away was Wanda Plaza.
Besides the noodles, they bought other food and daily necessities. Before paying, Shen Xiaojiang saw strawberry lollipops, but what she said was: “Give me a pack of cigarettes.”
Next to her, Sun Jiabao, who was eating an ice cream, nearly dropped her jaw.
Once outside, she asked in shock, “Ginger, since when did you smoke?”
Shen Xiaojiang said casually, “A long time ago.”
“Then how come I’ve never smelled smoke on you?” Sun Jiabao asked, staring at the light blue cigarette box in the transparent bag.
Shen Xiaojiang changed the subject. “Let’s go. I’m hungry too. Let’s go back and cook the noodles. I want a fried egg. How many do you want?”
“Well, obviously one for me too.”
“Why not two?”
“I’m on a diet.”
