After Flirting with the God-Tier Beautiful Tycoon - Chapter 68.1
“If no one is sitting here, may I?” Another boy from the Computer Club came over to ask Sun Jiabao, though his eyes were fixed on Shen Xiaojiang.
“Hey, hey, hey, that’s my seat.” A girl Shen Xiaojiang didn’t recognize walked over and snatched the chair. “Didn’t you see my phone there?”
This seat was directly opposite Shen Xiaojiang and had been fought over by several people as if it were some kind of auspicious “Feng Shui” treasure spot.
While Shen Xiaojiang was wondering why, a message popped up on her phone.
Sun Jiabao: Do you have any idea why everyone wants to sit around you?
Shen Xiaojiang didn’t reply but turned her head to look at a mysterious looking Sun Jiabao. After their eyes met, another message arrived.
Sun Jiabao: Because rumors are spreading across the school that you’re a “Human Lucky Koi.” During finals month, students sat near you in class to soak up the “metaphysical aura” of not failing. Now that summer break is coming, they’re sitting next to you to get some luck for part time jobs, internships, and campus recruiting. [Dog Head Emoji]
Shen Xiaojiang turned to look at her, her beautiful eyebrows furrowed tightly.
Shen Xiaojiang: What kind of nonsense is this?
The waiter brought several menus. In Shen Xiaojiang’s section, Sun Jiabao was in charge of ordering, and she basically ordered everything Shen Xiaojiang liked to eat. But today, looking at the plates of bright red raw meat being brought to the table one after another, Shen Xiaojiang had no appetite at all.
Lately, Shen Xiaojiang’s stomach pain had become more severe. Previously, it was just an occasional ache, but the week was only half over and it had already hurt twice. She had always been one to ignore such things, choosing to simply grit her teeth and endure it.
“Jiang-jiang, since we’re at a Korean BBQ place, should we get some Shin Ramyun?” Sun Jiabao didn’t know about Shen Xiaojiang’s condition. After all, the two of them used to eat Shin Ramyun frequently.
Shen Xiaojiang shrugged, acting casual.
“Shin Ramyun?” the junior girl said. “I want some too.”
Shen Xiaojiang looked kindly at the junior, then turned to Sun Jiabao and said, “Since both the junior and you want it, let’s order it.”
Sun Jiabao squinted and pouted, leaning in close to Shen Xiaojiang to whisper, “Why are you putting the junior before me? Don’t forget, I’m your best friend.”
Shen Xiaojiang let out a soft laugh and shook her head. “Alright, alright, I won’t forget.”
“Ah, she smiled, she smiled!” Sun Jiabao closed her eyes in exaggerated relief. “You’ve been so gloomy lately seeing you smile makes me finally feel at ease.”
Shen Xiaojiang wanted to say something, but as she watched the beef sizzling on the grill, she hesitated and remained silent.
After the meal, the group marched back toward the school in a grand procession.
“Jiang-jiang, come with me to Changbai Mountain this summer to escape the heat?” After Sun Jiabao finished speaking, she patted her stomach contentedly and let out a soft burp.
Shen Xiaojiang looked thoughtful. “I can’t. I have to go home, and I have a part time job.”
Sun Jiabao frowned. “That’s so boring. It’s a rare summer break. Think about it after we graduate, we won’t have summer breaks anymore.”
Shen Xiaojiang was unmoved. “If you go for a Master’s or PhD, or become a teacher, you’ll still have summer breaks.”
“Shen Da Jiang!”
“Hahaha!”
Just then, a message arrived on Shen Xiaojiang’s phone.
President Bai of Wanning Electronics: Student Shen, I remember you’re a programming expert. Could I ask you for a favor?
Shen Xiaojiang’s contact name for Bai Shuhua was simple and formal.
With Sun Jiabao still fussing beside her, Shen Xiaojiang held up her phone and shook it. “See? I might have other things to do.”
Sun Jiabao didn’t push her. If Shen Xiaojiang truly had time, she would definitely go with her.
“Fine, fine, you’re a busy person. Should I ask Chen Xingnan instead?” Sun Jiabao puffed out her cheeks, thought for a moment, and shook her head. “Forget it, she’s no fun. Let’s just wait until winter break to go to the hot springs at Changbai Mountain. Hey, winter break. I’m booking you now.”
Shen Xiaojiang was nudged so hard her phone almost fell to the ground. “Winter break is still far off, Big Sis Sun.”
“Who are you calling ‘Big Sis’? You’re the ‘Old Auntie’!” Just as Sun Jiabao was about to hit Shen Xiaojiang, the long-legged girl bolted ahead like a rabbit, joining the junior and the others.
“Jiang-jiang, you stay right there!”
As the shouts grew distant, Chen Yi took off her sunglasses, started her car, and drove out of the tree lined avenue.
Even though she had eaten with the Chamber of Commerce members until late, she still wanted to come and see Shen Xiaojiang. It felt as if her day wasn’t over until she saw her as if something were missing.
Shen Xiaojiang was always surrounded by noise and excitement, unlike her, who was always alone. Simply watching from a distance didn’t help much her heart still felt empty.
Without her, Shen Xiaojiang’s life was still full, with plenty of things to do and plenty of people to meet. And what about her? She could only rot and fester in a pile of filthy money.
Would someone come to save her? Probably not.
As Chen Yi’s car reached the school entrance, she passed by Bai Shuhua’s car. Outside of work, Bai Shuhua was high-profile, the roar of her red sports car was deafening. Chen Yi recognized it instantly.
Stepping on the brakes, Chen Yi slowed down immediately. Watching the red sports car disappear into the rearview mirror, Chen Yi bit her lip, unable to stop wondering.
What is she doing at the school at this hour?
The electric gate at the school entrance was halfway through closing. The security guard, seeing the familiar license plate, didn’t know whether to hurry her along or not. Chen Yi gripped the steering wheel tightly, nodded to the guard, and quickly drove out.
Since it was past the dormitory curfew, there weren’t many students or vehicles passing by. Chen Yi’s concentration was lapsing looking at the neon lights on the road, she hit the brakes and crawled along the open space by the school gate like a snail.
The more she thought about it, the more uneasy she felt, and the more uneasy she felt, the more she couldn’t stop thinking about it. Her heart felt like a ball of yarn tied in a knot that she couldn’t untangle, the more she tried, the tighter it became.
With a sigh, she turned the steering wheel and returned to the electric gate. The guard, thinking she wanted to enter, immediately opened the gate for her.
But she stopped at the gate, motionless. She was afraid Bai Shuhua really was looking for Shen Xiaojiang. If she bumped into them together, it would be even more awkward.
She wavered, trapped in hesitation. The guard was completely confused, his brow furrowing and relaxing repeatedly. Again, it was a “Seventh Master Chen” car he couldn’t rush her, but he couldn’t just stand there either.
It wasn’t until the honk of another car sounded behind her that Chen Yi snapped out of it, stepped on the gas, and turned around to leave Nancheng University.
For some people and some things, letting them end here might be the best conclusion.
