After Flirting with the God-Tier Beautiful Tycoon - Chapter 56.1
“Chen Xingnan, do you have to be that disgusting?”
Shen Xiaojiang shook her head with a smile. The dormitory was always this lively completely unlike the Xinghui Hotel.
The Xinghui Hotel…
In Shen Xiaojiang’s mind, Chen Yi’s cool, aloof face surfaced. If she didn’t go to the hotel, Chen Yi would be there all alone. But if Chen Yi hadn’t proactively sent her back to the dorm, Xiaojiang would have definitely stayed with her.
Thinking of this, she couldn’t help but wonder what important business Chen Yi had to do so late at night. And even if she had to work, surely there was no problem with Xiaojiang staying in the hotel to keep her company?
Thinking about it now, she still felt a bit dejected.
“Ginger, look at her, look at her!” Sun Jiabao squeezed onto Xiaojiang’s chair and leaned on her shoulder, faking a cry.
Shen Xiaojiang rubbed Jiabao’s head. “Oh, you two just settle down. Look what time it is; we have major classes tomorrow.”
Sun Jiabao slapped Xiaojiang’s hand away. “Ugh, stinky Ginger, you messed up my hair!”
This scene was so familiar. Just a moment ago in the car, Chen Yi had stroked the top of Xiaojiang’s head in the same way. Shen Xiaojiang hadn’t minded at all; in fact, she had enjoyed it.
Subconsciously, Xiaojiang touched the crown of her own head, biting her lip with an expression of lingering bliss.
Sun Jiabao looked at her as if she were constipated. “Sister, are you in heat? No way, right?”
Shen Xiaojiang abruptly dropped her hand and pushed Jiabao away. “Go away, go away.”
“Hiss…” Sun Jiabao stopped bothering with Chen Xingnan, her focus entirely on Xiaojiang. “Wait, something’s not right. Ginger, it’s so late how did you get into the dorm?”
Shen Xiaojiang didn’t rush to answer. She looked toward Chen Xingnan. “Look, didn’t she just get back too?”
Chen Xingnan laughed as she twirled a lock of Jiabao’s hair. “You’re funny. I’ve been in the dorm the whole time.”
“Really?” Xiaojiang countered.
Sun Jiabao disgustedly slapped Xingnan’s hand away. “Yeah, she was just hanging out in the room next door.”
“Oh.” Shen Xiaojiang cleared her throat guiltily. “The dorm mother saw it was raining and showed some mercy letting me in. Any problem with that?”
“Mm, keep clearing your throat all you want. We’ve known each other for how many years? I know you too well you clear your throat the moment you lie, and you lie the moment you clear your throat.” Sun Jiabao narrowed her eyes with a gossipy look. “Oh my god, oh my god… Ginger, you have a little secret.”
Shen Xiaojiang bent over to change into her slippers. “Secret my foot.”
Sun Jiabao nudged her shoulder. “Come on, confess the truth.”
“Confess what? I was at the pet shop, okay?” Xiaojiang feigned a righteous tone.
“Tsk tsk, don’t think I don’t know didn’t the pet shop close ages ago?” Jiabao continued her interrogation.
After changing her slippers, Xiaojiang grabbed her towel and stood up. “The pet shop was busy today, okay? Move, move, I need a shower.”
“Ginger!” Sun Jiabao blocked her path. “Based on my years of experience knowing you, I smell something on you…”
Shen Xiaojiang blinked rapidly in guilt. Chen Yi’s perfume still lingered on her. She was afraid Jiabao would recognize it.
Fortunately, Jiabao didn’t have much contact with Chen Yi. She said, “I smell… the scent of being in love.”
Shen Xiaojiang quickly skirted around her and let out a sigh of relief. “You’re overthinking it.”
She had managed to get past Sun Jiabao, but then Chen Xingnan leaned in.
“Xiaojiang, I smell it too. It’s like perfume,” Chen Xingnan scrunched her nose. “Whose is it? It smells pretty good.”
Sun Jiabao and Liu Wei joined in on the fun. The three of them surrounded Shen Xiaojiang like police dogs investigating a scene.
Shen Xiaojiang: “…”
Sun Jiabao and Liu Wei looked at each other and said in unison: “There really is a scent!”
Shen Xiaojiang: “…”
“It’s from a customer at the shop,” she glossed over it casually.
The three of them crossed their arms and leaned in together. “Really?”
Shen Xiaojiang rolled her eyes at all three of them simultaneously and said through gritted teeth, “Really.”
The trio continued: “We don’t believe you.”
Shen Xiaojiang tapped one of them on the forehead. “What is wrong with you guys? Didn’t you say you couldn’t focus on your books? Didn’t you say calculus was torture? So, do you still want my notes? Do you still want my tutoring?”
Sun Jiabao said with mock loftiness, “One thing has nothing to do with the other. Exams are important, but they aren’t as important as your sexual… happiness, Ginger…”
“Do you want them or not?” Xiaojiang’s voice rose.
Sun Jiabao immediately retreated and practically knelt before her. “Want! Want! Want!”
And so, the matter was smoothed over.
Meanwhile, Chen Yi drove away from Nancheng University and headed straight for the Nancheng Mansion.
She hadn’t replied to messages all day; the Old Man must be furious. Chen Yi decided to stay at the Mansion tonight so she could explain everything to him first thing tomorrow morning.
Back when she was still “Chen Xiaoqi,” she lived there. Her room had been kept exactly as it was, even after she moved out, cleaned daily by the staff.
Old Man Bai had only one son. To escape the Old Man’s control, the son and his wife had both left Nancheng for America in search of freedom, only to lose their lives in an accident. Because Chen Yi had once taken a knife for Old Man Bai, he treated her differently than everyone else.
The outside world whispered that Old Man Bai kept her as a mistress, but only Chen Yi knew that he treated her like his own child.
“So you finally remembered to come back.”
Chen Yi, who was closing the door and changing her shoes, was startled by Old Man Bai sitting on the sofa.
“Master Bai, it’s so late, you haven’t slept yet?” Chen Yi approached and squatted beside him.
“I’ve realized lately that it’s truly difficult to get a word in with you.” Old Man Bai’s words were loaded.
Chen Yi blinked, her smile faint. “I’m sorry, I was busy and didn’t see your messages.”
The Old Man put down the walnuts he was fiddling with and rested his folded hands on the handle of his cane. “Busy?”
Chen Yi stiffened her posture, looking like a student being lectured.
“I’m not an idiot,” Old Man Bai turned his head and glanced at her. “That girl is Shen Xiaojiang, isn’t she?”
“The reason you left Nancheng during the Dragon Boat Festival.”
Chen Yi lowered her head, not daring to meet his eyes.
Old Man Bai continued: “Top student from Hai City No. 1 High School, the 2021 provincial science top scorer in the Gaokao, the 2022 Nancheng Computer Competition champion, and in the top tier for recommended graduate admission at Nancheng University’s School of Computer Science.”
Chen Yi said nothing. She had known all this since she first investigated Xiaojiang.
“Yes, a very beautiful resume. A clean person who stands almost at the peak of her field. She won’t even have to wait for graduation before a pile of companies starts fighting to sign her. Her future is immeasurable.” Old Man Bai nodded. “You two… are not from the same world.”
“Of course, if you’re willing to use money and power to corrupt her, you could. But you’d have to stand at the absolute peak of that money and power first, wouldn’t you?”
“Are you the President of the Chamber of Commerce yet?”
“Do you have the strength to hold onto her?”
Chen Yi was stunned for a moment. All the thoughts she’d had before were now surfacing one by one.
Corrupt her? Chen Yi had never thought of that.
But truly, she was afraid of not being able to hold onto her. She was afraid someone would jump out and say bluntly, “She and Shen Xiaojiang don’t match.”
It wasn’t that Shen Xiaojiang wasn’t good enough for her, but that she wasn’t good enough for Shen Xiaojiang. Many things cannot be obtained through money and power alone. Shen Xiaojiang was one of those things.
Today, someone had finally said it out loud someone who knew her well and held her in high regard. She couldn’t ignore it.
Back at the dorm, Shen Xiaojiang finished her shower. On her desk sat washed and sliced fruit, a glass of warm milk, and a box of double layered chocolate cream cookies.
On the other side, the three roommates were lined up with black pens and notebooks, surrounding Xiaojiang’s seat.
Shen Xiaojiang almost died laughing. “What’s the meaning of this?” she asked while drying her hair.
The three were rarely this united: “Tutoring, oh Great Scholar!”
Shen Xiaojiang: “My hair isn’t even…”
Chen Xingnan: “Understood, Great Scholar. I’ll blow dry your hair for you. From now on, my hairdryer is at your command.”
Shen Xiaojiang: “My face is too dry. Can I at least put on some lotion first?”
Liu Wei: “Understood, Great Scholar. Dry face? I am willing to offer up all of my hydrating masks.”
Shen Xiaojiang: “Hey, hey, don’t press down on my Kindle…”
Sun Jiabao: “Understood, Great Scholar. Forget a Kindle from now on, whatever novels, short videos, or movies the Great Scholar wants to see, colored or not, are all on me.”
Shen Xiaojiang didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. She shook her head with a sigh. “I don’t want all that. But, seeing as you’ve put in so much effort… come on, where do we start?”
The three immediately scurried to her side. One did a massage, one fanned her, and one fed her fruit. They were having the time of their lives.
Half an hour later, Shen Xiaojiang had drafted a detailed revision guide for them. Official supervision would start tomorrow.
Liu Wei and Chen Xingnan went to sleep. Sun Jiabao was about to climb into bed when she saw Shen Xiaojiang standing alone on the balcony, letting the wind blow on her.
She was thinking of Chen Yi. She was hesitating whether or not to send a message.
Sun Jiabao put on her pajamas, pushed open the balcony door, and let out a small yawn. “Ginger, why aren’t you sleeping yet?”
Shen Xiaojiang turned to meet her sleepy eyes. “I don’t feel like sleeping yet,” she said.
Sun Jiabao stood beside her, looking at the sky. “The rain stopped. The air is so fresh.”
“Mm,” Xiaojiang replied.
“Ginger, tell me the truth. Are you in lo…”
Shen Xiaojiang blinked and changed the subject. “Do you remember the birthdays of your relatives?”
“My relatives?” Sun Jiabao was easily distracted. “Which relative?”
Shen Xiaojiang: “How about this try to recall all of them.”
“Huh?” Jiabao was confused.
“Don’t ‘huh’ me. Start your performance.” Shen Xiaojiang smiled and winked at her.
“Ginger, why are you asking this?”
Shen Xiaojiang scratched her forehead and thought for a moment. “You asked for my mom’s birthday before, and I told you the truth.”
“Oh,” Jiabao answered blankly. “My mom’s birthday is November 1st.”
Shen Xiaojiang: “Noted. Anyone else?”
“Anyone else?” Jiabao searched her brain. “My dad…”
“No, no, no. Tell me about the women.” Xiaojiang waved her off.
Sun Jiabao didn’t have time to be suspicious. “My aunt is quite close to my family. When was her birthday again…?”
Shen Xiaojiang clasped her hands together, feeling the nervous excitement of waiting for lottery numbers. “So, when was it?”
Sun Jiabao rested her chin in her hand and looked at the sky. “I remember it was during the summer break. I think it was July, but I don’t remember the exact day.”
Shen Xiaojiang’s expression turned solemn. It felt like she had found out, yet also hadn’t.
“Ginger, what are you up to?”
Shen Xiaojiang waved her hand. “I can give you extra tutoring on Professor Lao’s major course points. The condition is that you find out the exact day of your aunt’s birthday tomorrow.”
With that, Shen Xiaojiang slipped back into the dorm without another word. Without Shen Xiaojiang, Sun Jiabao would definitely fail her major. Knowing Jiabao, she would definitely find out Chen Yi’s birthday when faced with such a huge temptation.
Sun Jiabao’s interest was piqued. “Does it have to be my aunt’s birthday? I remember my paternal aunt’s! Would that work? Would it?”
Shen Xiaojiang: Of course not! (Finding out a birthday has exhausted nearly all my brain cells.)
Shen Xiaojiang: March 28 (Aries) Unafraid of power, decisive and brave, straightforward and passionate, sometimes exceptionally childish.
Chen Yi: July 22 (Cancer) The first sign of summer. Aloof, demanding, and possessive suspicious, sensitive, and hard to please. Sometimes lives too seriously and lacks fun.
