- Chapter 11 - Quite Delicate
During the bath, Gu He was initially very resistant and refused to let anyone touch him. However, he eventually lost to the disparity in physical strength and weakly rested his arms on the man’s shoulders.
In the end, He Yunqi carried him back and tucked him under the covers, remarking with a smile that he was delicate.
Perhaps because He Yunqi was in a good mood, he did not mind providing the aftercare service himself.
He leaned against the headboard and lit a cigarette. Holding the filter between two fingers, he moistened it with his tongue and took a drag, slowly exhaling the smoke. A sliver of moonlight filtered through an unclosed gap in the curtains, falling on Gu He’s skin, which still had a faint pink tint.
Gu He’s hair hung over his forehead, and his usual cold aura had vanished. Half of his face was hidden by his arm, revealing only a soft, fleshy earlobe marked with faint teeth indentations. He looked both obedient and pitiful. Perhaps feeling too warm, he frowned and kicked the blanket away.
Asleep, he was a completely different person than when he was awake. He was delicate and somewhat difficult to coax. His long, curled eyelashes were still slightly damp.
The faint smell of smoke caused Gu He’s brow to furrow. Seeing this, He Yunqi instinctively clicked his tongue, extinguished the cigarette, and went to the bathroom to rinse his mouth. His movements as he got out of bed were uncharacteristically careful.
If Xie Jun had seen this, he would have thought he was seeing a ghost or that the Seventh Master had been possessed.
He Yunqi’s internal thought: No, this is called making an exception.
After brushing his teeth, he lay down again, lowered the air conditioning by one degree, and pulled up the covers, naturally drawing Gu He into his arms.
Gu He was not used to such intimate physical contact. The moment his back touched the man’s chest, his limbs struggled slightly.
He Yunqi tightened his hold and threatened in a low voice, “If you do not want to go another round, stop moving.”
His tone was not harsh; rather, it held a hint of laziness and fatigue. Gu He’s struggling immediately ceased, and he allowed himself to be held.
He Yunqi lowered his head with a faint smile. He looked up, his sharp gaze sweeping over the red dot of a camera in the dark corner of the room. He licked his lips in satisfaction and said in a rare, coaxing, slightly hoarse voice, “Go to sleep.”
Wrapped in that gentle voice, Gu He became unusually obedient, and his breathing soon became steady and deep.
Human desire is endless once a taste is acquired.
“I will let you off tonight. Once you are better fed and cared for, I will not be able to spoil you like this.”
In the frozen frame of the glowing red lens, the hair on Gu He’s forehead was soaked with sweat, clinging to his skin.
Actually, they had already met earlier that morning.
“Next, we invite the students who received the National Scholarship to come up for a commemorative photo: Gu He, Jiang Bai, Tang Jie.”
The opening ceremony of W University began under the direction of the counselor. As a key university in G City, the ceremony was always solemn and orderly. After the speeches by successful alumni, it was time to commend the outstanding students of the previous semester.
The audience was even more excited than those on stage. The smiles on the faces of the leaders and teachers reflected pride. Each outstanding student added luster to the school’s reputation for funding and investment.
On the podium, sponsors followed one after another, standing beside the students they supported.
One youth among the crowd was particularly eye-catching. His slightly curled, fluffy hair was a cool, ashy gold. The lights falling on his hair seemed to plate it with a layer of pale gold. His long bangs fell over his brow, and his clear eyes were so cold they seemed detached from the crowd. His facial structure was bold and defiant, and the black short-sleeved shirt he wore added a sense of wildness to his presence.
“Xiao Gu, your current grades are excellent. I have an opportunity for further study abroad. Do you want it?”
The man standing next to Gu He wore a refined suit and an expensive watch with gold and diamonds that dazzled in the sunlight. He handed a bouquet to the youth, his eyes carrying an ambiguous smile as he stared directly at him.
Many reporters from newspapers and television stations were present, most of them focusing on the wealthy businessmen and celebrities. Countless cameras flashed, capturing the material they wanted.
Gu He glanced at the man from under his lashes. His eyes were clear and deep, as indifferent as a cold spring. His lips were a beautiful, bright red, looking unintentionally sexy. “No need,” he replied.
He said he did not need it, not that he did not want it, silently snapping the olive branch offered to him.
The man’s smile remained unchanged. He placed a hand on Gu He’s shoulder, pulling him closer, and audaciously slid his hand down to the boy’s waist, giving it a hard squeeze, completely ignoring the reporters and teachers below.
He whispered provocatively, “Do you know how many students from poor families fight until they are bloodied for this slot? If you want it, I can give it to you.”
The two were very close, and their voices were low. Others passing by with microphones remained oblivious, maintaining their professional smiles.
“President Zhao truly dotes on our Xiao Gu.”
“Haha, a child as smart as Xiao Gu is naturally likable. I like him very much too.”
“Xiao Gu, would you consider joining our company’s laboratory?”
“Old Xu, you cannot poach someone right in front of their face!”
“Hahaha, Old Zhao, you had better watch your treasure closely.”
Others nearby laughed and offered flattering remarks.
The host finished reading the names, signifying the end of the award round.
At that moment, Gu He expressionlessly pushed the man’s hand away. He handed the flowers to a teacher walking past him and left the podium, leaving behind only the sight of his slender back.
The man watched that plain, indifferent face, his throat tightening. He was likely only restrained by his reputation and status; otherwise, he would have kidnapped the boy and taught him a lesson long ago.
This move caused a stir in the audience. After all, Gu He was a low-profile but well-known figure in the academy.
The reporters were already paying close attention to students with topic potential. By the time they reacted, their cameras could not catch up with the fast-walking Gu He. Almost simultaneously, the lenses focused on the man. This was a minor scene for him; he was not flustered and handled it with ease, wearing a face full of smiles and speaking high-sounding words to win the applause of the ignorant crowd.
Feeling irritable, Gu He accidentally collided with someone at a corner. The faint scent of masculine wood mixed with a hint of bitterness filled his nose. In the moment he was surrounded by this hardy aura, it felt like a tide breaking through the dark night, steady and deep.
“Sorry,” Gu He said. His voice was cold, though his tone was relatively mild.
He looked up, the wind blowing his hair so that a few soft strands brushed against He Yunqi’s chin.
His neck was snow-white, and his chin was slightly raised. His amber eyes showed a trace of impatience that was quickly suppressed.
The first thing Gu He saw was the superior curve of the man’s jaw, and above that, thin lips. Even though the man wore sunglasses on his high-bridged nose, his features looked like those of a person of mixed race.
He was clearly someone of great wealth or status.
Gu He took a few steps back to maintain distance and turned to leave. As he passed He Yunqi, he caught a crisp scent that did not smell like perfume, but rather like temple incense, perhaps agarwood or sandalwood. He was stunned for a few seconds.
“Seventh Master, you are here.” Xie Jun, wearing a black suit, walked toward He Yunqi, looking quite respectable.
In the gap of their conversation, Gu He had already left quietly, leaving only the soft, itchy sensation of his hair against He Yunqi’s chin.
Xie Jun felt like crying. In some respects, he was indeed experienced. After all, he had read many self-reflection letters in middle school. Now that his identity had suddenly changed, he was quite uncomfortable. Finally, he did not have to pretend anymore. He tugged at his tie and grumbled, “It is so hard to pretend to be a decent person.”
“Who is he?” The high bridge of He Yunqi’s nose cast a shadow. His stern brow made Xie Jun’s body stiffen instantly.
When faced with beautiful people or things, one always uncontrollably looks a few more times and pays a bit more attention.
Xie Jun narrowed his eyes and stared at the retreating figure for a moment. Was that the student who had just defied Zhao Pengtai? He blurted out, “Oh, he is one of Zhao Pengtai’s people.”
He Yunqi glanced at him, annoyed that the answer missed the point entirely.
“Shoot.”
Xie Jun immediately shut up and carefully observed He Yunqi’s expression. He was a subordinate with some situational awareness. Could the Seventh Master be interested in this type?
His heart skipped a beat.
He immediately tapped on his phone screen to make up for his mistake. “Seventh Master, wait a moment.”
A moment later, Xie Jun began to exclaim, “Seventh Master, this guy is a genius! His name is Gu He. His grades crush everyone in his year, and he even skipped grades. He is 19 years old, in the 5+3 integrated master’s program for Forensic Medicine at W University. He is currently a junior. He is an orphan. No wonder that dog Zhao Pengtai could find an opening.”
He Yunqi raised an eyebrow.
Xie Jun had a big mouth and rattled on about what had happened. He had been standing right behind Gu He and heard the shameless things Zhao Pengtai said. But Gu He was no pushover; the young man was tough and pushed back directly, giving no face at all.
There was a saying that advising someone to study medicine was like inviting a lightning strike, and advising law was like a thousand cuts. This boy combined both; he was truly a dual-wielding Rakshasa.
Xie Jun spat on the ground. “That dog Zhao Pengtai, his three virtues follow his bladder. His head is full of bubbles.”
He really was a piece of work.
He Yunqi had seen many seventeen or eighteen-year-old youths. They were beautiful, refined, obedient, arrogant, or cold. He could have as many of those as he wanted. But someone like this, who looked like a beautiful and fierce little fox, happened to be exactly to his liking.
He Yunqi’s eyes were unreadable. The youth’s appearance and cold voice were a perfect match. Those pale amber eyes were cold and flat, yet held an indescribable allure. This treasure had caught his eye.
Xie Jun stole another glance in the direction Gu He had left. His temple throbbed. What a pity.
“By the way, Master, the people from TOP are coming to investigate your purpose for returning to the country. Should we?” Xie Jun made a throat-slitting gesture.
“I am here to fall in love.”
