- Chapter 1 - Shall We Do it Tonight?
“Be good, arch your back.”
“……”
Shen Qi could not say a word. He only felt his brain swimming in a haze, his body burning with intense heat.
Suddenly bullied too fiercely, his eyes reddened, and tears began to fall drop by drop.
“Don’t cry, darling. I will be gentler.”
Seeing him cry, a large hand gently stroked the corner of his eye, and the man, smiling softly, leaned down to kiss away his teardrops.
The air was permeated with the rich scent of gin. It was the Alpha’s pheromones, intense and passionate, wrapping tightly around their intertwined figures.
Unfortunately, Shen Qi could not smell it.
He was a Beta.
But that did not affect his subconscious reaction when being occupied.
Tears kept streaming down like strings of beads, and the man patiently coaxed him over and over again.
“Don’t cry, baby.”
“Why are you so delicate? Come here, let your husband give you a kiss.”
“Qiqi is so cute.”
……
When Shen Qi woke up in the morning, the soreness he expected in his body did not strike. On the contrary, he felt refreshed and inexplicably satisfied.
Pushing back the quilt, he seemed to immediately understand what had happened.
He rubbed his hair in annoyance, feeling so ashamed he could not face himself. After a long while, he let out a deep sigh.
Another erotic dream.
Yes.
Another.
Calculating the dates, his and Cheng Yanzhou’s third wedding anniversary was fast approaching.
Married for three years, he and Cheng Yanzhou had lived as a married couple for three years without ever truly consummating the marriage.
They say that what you think about during the day, you dream about at night; so what did this dream mean? That he wanted to sleep with his own husband?
How ridiculous.
Shaking the messy thoughts out of his mind, Shen Qi threw himself out of bed in resignation and plunged into the bathroom.
In the evening.
When Cheng Yanzhou pushed open the door, Shen Qi was sitting at the dining table fiddling with his ledger. A bowl of seafood porridge sat on the table. He had reheated it and let it go cold several times.
He did not seem to notice that the other had returned, continuing to write and calculate with his pen.
The blue light of his laptop screen reflected on his face, casting a hint of sharpness upon features that were usually docile.
Shen Qi’s fingertips were still dancing on the calculator when, the next second, he finally heard the sound of leather shoes treading on the floor.
He’s back?
Shen Qi’s eyes flickered, and he quietly looked up, his gaze sweeping over the Alpha.
His eyes rested for two seconds on the collar of the shirt, which was stained with a lipstick mark, before he calmly lowered his gaze.
“You’re back.”
He closed the ledger, his voice so soft it was like he was talking to himself.
Cheng Yanzhou gave a hum, walked a few steps closer, and then stopped, maintaining the distance that had always existed between them.
He loosened his tie, and the gin-scented pheromones began to release.
As an S-class Alpha, his pheromones were overwhelmingly dominant. Suddenly, they swept through the entire floor like a storm.
As for why he did not restrain the release of his pheromones at all? It was simple. In the entire villa, apart from him, everyone else was a Beta. No one could be affected.
Including the “wife” in name sitting before him.
Shen Qi could not smell a thing, nor did he know what the cold-faced man in front of him was thinking.
“Do you want to eat something?” Shen Qi said calmly. “I left some porridge for you.”
He then stood up, prepared to go heat the porridge again.
He maintained the usual obedience and detachment he always showed when interacting with Cheng Yanzhou, and even though his inner emotions were surging, his expression did not show a single flaw.
“No need,” Cheng Yanzhou replied.
His voice is cold, too.
Shen Qi thought that his offer was indeed unnecessary; the other party had most likely enjoyed something better outside tonight.
That lipstick stain was proof enough of everything.
He suddenly wondered: when Cheng Yanzhou was fooling around with those Omegas, would his tone be like it was in his dream last night? Would it be doted, husky, and overflowing with affection?
For a moment, no one spoke, and the air solidified eerily for an instant.
“Do you want a bath? I will go draw the water for you.”
Shen Qi asked again, breaking the dead silence.
“No need. Let the servants handle those things.”
This time, the other party said a few more words, but the tone remained icy. Shen Qi pursed his lips, not knowing where the courage came from to drive him to say what followed.
The moonlight was like water, shining into the room at an angle through the window lattice.
Shen Qi’s heart was pounding, and he heard himself say:
“Then, shall we do it tonight?”
His tone was very light, probing, and one could even detect a faint, subtle hint of pandering and seduction in his words.
Once finished, he secretly lifted his eyelids, his gaze reflecting the moonlight as he calmly observed the expression of the man standing two meters away.
But Cheng Yanzhou’s expression could be described as foolproof; he completely ignored the sentence.
He turned around and went upstairs.
When they signed the marriage certificate three years ago, Old Master Cheng said that Cheng Yanzhou just had a cold personality.
Looking at the ring on his ring finger at the time, Shen Qi thought that being a bit cold was fine. It was better than those Alphas in the Shen family who committed domestic violence.
But he had not expected it to reach this point.
And it was not just his personality that was cold. He suspected that he was asexual.
Although he was a Beta and could not personally experience the feelings of AO during special periods, he had learned in physiology class back in his student days that during special periods, an Alpha needed to resolve their heat with their partner.
But with Cheng Yanzhou, during his rut periods, he would rather inject inhibitors than touch him.
In the first year of marriage, they barely shared a room, but afterward, he moved to the guest bedroom using various excuses.
He was always sparing with his words when talking to him, his tone was cold, and in three years, he had not once called him “darling.”
And now, there were even occurrences like tonight, coming home with clear lipstick marks and the scent of perfume.
Every sign indicated that Cheng Yanzhou did not love him and perhaps even loathed him; otherwise, he would not be this cold.
But Shen Qi was very unprincipled.
In the three years he had been here, he had still fallen for the other man.
Sighing, he silently put away the ledger and prepared to go upstairs to rest in the bedroom.
“Young Master, are you not going to drink the porridge?” the housekeeper asked, looking up as she mopped the floor.
“Throw it away.”
Shen Qi pushed open the bedroom door, and sure enough, Cheng Yanzhou was not there.
Each bedroom had its own bathroom, so he was likely staying elsewhere.
True, from a long time ago, this master bedroom had no longer been visited by the head of the Cheng family; instead, it was where he always lived.
Living alone.
After showering, Shen Qi turned off the faucet and walked out of the bathroom. Through the wide-open door, he noticed the light in the study was on.
Usually, in such cases, after finishing his work, Cheng Yanzhou would sleep directly in the guest room.
It would be the same tonight, then. There was no need to leave the door unlocked.
“……”
Walking over calmly to close the door that was specifically left open, even though no one would enter, Shen Qi leaned his back against the door panel and sighed silently.
The bedding on the large bed was arranged neatly, without even a wrinkle, constantly reminding him of that silent rejection.
He could not describe how he felt right now, because this situation was simply too ordinary. The two of them were basically the most familiar strangers in this house.
Shen Qi said nothing, dried his hair on his own, walked to the bed, and sat down, staring at the spacious bed, wondering what he was thinking.
Finally, he was suddenly struck by an inexplicable impulse to pull open the nightstand drawer. Inside was a box of condoms he had bought shortly after they were married three years ago, and it was still unopened.
The expiration date was 36 months. It was about to expire.
A wave of frustration washed over him. Shen Qi angrily threw the box of condoms back in and slammed the drawer shut.
It is fine. I have long been used to being a background figure in this cold home.
They were just a couple of resentful spouses. If Cheng Yanzhou could tolerate living under the same roof with someone he did not love, he could keep his feelings hidden and keep going.
Before falling asleep, Shen Qi prayed that he would not have that kind of dream again, then turned off the light, forcing himself to close his eyes.
Little did he know that he would soon be welcoming an unexpected visitor.
