- After Faking Her Death and Escaping, the Junior Sister Fell to the Demonic Path
- Chapter 101 - Failed Negotiation, I Want Her to Take Over My Sect Leader Position
Qin Qingyi stood outside, looking at the moving shadow within the bed curtains.
Then came two low voices conversing.
“It’s alright, ask her to come in.”
Qin Qingyi heard Shangguan Yu say to another person, and then someone drew back the bed curtains, looking up at her.
It was Bai Lan, the Valley Master of Medicine King Valley.
“Valley Master Bai,” Qin Qingyi nodded to the person.
Bai Lan softly “hmm’d” and stepped aside to let her through.
“Come in, she’s been waiting for you for a long time.”
Perhaps annoyed that Qin Qingyi had returned so late, Bai Lan held back but ultimately spoke, “You should have returned sooner.”
Qin Qingyi’s steps paused, momentarily feeling helpless.
The next moment, Shangguan Yu’s voice sounded from within the bed curtains, “Bai Lan, don’t make it hard for her.”
It was Shangguan Yu, forcing herself to speak up for her.
With the main person speaking, Bai Lan, as a healer, naturally couldn’t say more. She could only sigh, seemingly complaining, “You two talk, I’ll go out for some fresh air.”
Seeing her leave, Qin Qingyi also sighed in relief, drew the bed curtains open, and walked in, wanting to see how Shangguan Yu truly was now.
She hadn’t been unconcerned during this time; it was just that matters of the demon race entangled her, making it impossible to leave.
But when she saw the person, she was even more speechless.
“Senior Martial Aunt…”
Qin Qingyi’s lips trembled, somewhat unable to believe the sight before her.
After drawing back the bed curtains, the injuries that Shangguan Yu hadn’t mentioned during their communication were revealed to Qin Qingyi.
Shangguan Yu was already lingering on her last breath, her face pale, her breathing so weak it was almost undetectable.
Demonic energy emanated from her heart, and blood-red demonic patterns spread from her heart to her limbs, neck, and cheeks. She was clearly deeply parasitized by a demonic seed, which was almost completely draining her life force.
One hand was still hooked onto the bed curtain, frozen stiff in place.
The sight before her was horrifying, to say the least. If it weren’t for the bed curtains obscuring it, one might mistake this place for where the demon race resided, with no sense of contradiction.
Qin Qingyi felt her breathing become somewhat difficult.
A world of difference separated by a curtain!
“Did I scare you?” Shangguan Yu chuckled, completely unbothered by Qin Qingyi’s unusual gaze.
Shangguan Yu acted as if nothing was wrong, pointing to the small stool beside her, “Come and sit, I have something to tell you.”
She leaned against the side of the bed, the exposed part of her shoulder covered in gruesome wounds. Due to the invasion of demonic energy, these wounds wouldn’t heal for a long time; no matter what medical treatment was applied, they couldn’t be stitched up. They were just exposed like this, with the meridians sealed to slow down the time the demonic seed took to erode her body.
In addition to this, the very obvious, unhealed, gruesome wound on Shangguan Yu’s chest almost made Qin Qingyi’s eyes split with anger.
“Senior Martial Aunt, who hurt you like this?!”
Her voice trembled, tinged with an uncontrollable fury.
The wound piercing her chest was clearly caused by a sword, and it was aimed at the heart from behind, intending to be a fatal blow.
If the demonic seed hadn’t deeply rooted itself in Shangguan Yu’s chest, and if the demonic seed hadn’t temporarily protected the host’s life in order to grow stronger, Shangguan Yu would have likely died long ago.
However, there are very few sword users among the demon race, and her Senior Martial Aunt was a supreme master of the sword. The number of sword users in this world who could get close to her, even if counted carefully, wouldn’t exceed five fingers. Even if she was ambushed, she shouldn’t have been injured so severely.
Unless… it was an attack from a very close person, only then could such precise and efficient sneak attack and assassination be achieved.
“It was a demon.”
Qin Qingyi was lost in thought, carefully pondering who could have possibly injured Shangguan Yu, when the bedridden Shangguan Yu spoke, interrupting her.
Qin Qingyi looked up, her gaze clearly not believing Shangguan Yu’s words.
If it were truly a demon, they would injure her hands, feet, or arms, or at worst her waist and abdomen, but it shouldn’t be her heart.
Such a precise and swift strike clearly didn’t resemble one made in battle. When danger approached, cultivators would instinctively turn to dodge. Even if the enemy launched a sneak attack from the back, it would be impossible to pierce through the entire heart so accurately.
But if it were as she had just speculated, an act by a close person…
“It was the work of a demon.”
Shangguan Yu repeated.
Seeing her persistence, Qin Qingyi reluctantly nodded in a perfunctory manner, “Yes, yes, if you say it’s a demon, it’s a demon.”
“Now that I’m back, you should finally talk about the important matter, right?”
The topic was brought back, and Shangguan Yu “hmm’d” before looking up at Qin Qingyi again.
A deep meaning surged in her eyes; it was clear she was about to say something extremely important.
“There’s one thing I need you to agree to.”
Qin Qingyi’s heart suddenly pounded.
——————
A long while later, Qin Qingyi’s loud rejection erupted from within the bed curtains.
“No! Absolutely not! I won’t agree!!”
Bai Lan, who had finished getting fresh air outside and was preparing to go back in to check on Shangguan Yu’s injuries, happened to hear this sentence.
The sudden, out-of-context “No” scratched at Bai Lan’s heart.
“What’s this about ‘no’?” Bai Lan muttered, cautiously approaching the bed curtains. “Let me hear what they’re saying.”
Just as she got close and was about to press her ear against the bed curtains, the person inside suddenly threw open the curtains. Her furious look softened slightly when she saw Bai Lan.
Realizing that the other person was trying to eavesdrop by standing so close, Qin Qingyi’s expression darkened.
She was the first to attack, speaking in a sarcastic tone, “Does the Valley Master of Medicine King Valley also have a penchant for eavesdropping?”
“I never knew that Valley Master Bai would be so disgraceful, like those disreputable people in the local markets.”
The words were extremely impolite. Bai Lan, who was used to being flattered in the Xuan Tian Realm, became furious upon realizing what was said. “Are you scolding me?”
As the Valley Master of Medicine King Valley, everyone Bai Lan met had always been respectful, extremely courteous, and flattering, humbling themselves and offering up all their possessions just to ask her to see a patient.
She had never encountered such an arrogant and unruly person!
And a junior at that!
If a junior dared to give her attitude, wouldn’t she lose face?!
“Your Master, along with the Sword Sect’s Leader, dare not offend me. And you scold me like this?”
Bai Lan was exasperated, determined to get an answer from Qin Qingyi.
One must know that the Sword Sect’s Leader now relied on her to stay alive. If she became upset, Shangguan Yu could die the next day.
How did Wen Qing teach her disciple? Why did she have the same bad temper?
Qin Qingyi sneered, completely disregarding the hidden threat in Bai Lan’s words.
She had encountered enough frustrating things today, and the person before her was truly annoying. So, Qin Qingyi spoke bluntly, her words barbed:
“Valley Master Bai, many people in the Xuan Tian Realm flatter you; I suppose one less won’t make a difference. Why subject yourself to humiliation?”
Meaning, other people flattering her was their business, and she wouldn’t treat her with the same respect and courtesy.
Qin Qingyi drew the bed curtains open and walked out directly, her face clearly showing suppressed anger as she left.
Bai Lan watched as she completely ignored her and just walked away, feeling a moment of annoyance.
She was about to tell Qin Qingyi to stop and to have a good argument with her, but the voice coming from within the bed curtains stopped the words that were already at her lips.
“Valley Master Bai, it’s time for the check-up.”
Bai Lan looked at Qin Qingyi’s retreating figure, then at Shangguan Yu, who was faintly coughing inside the bed curtains. Ultimately, the compassion of a healer won over the obsession to teach a disrespectful junior a lesson.
Bai Lan exhaled sharply through her nose, suppressed her anger, drew back the bed curtains, and walked in.
After a busy period, Bai Lan stabilized Shangguan Yu’s deteriorating injuries again. Tired after a long while, Bai Lan plopped down onto the small stool.
“Thank you for your hard work during this time.”
Shangguan Yu thanked her.
Bai Lan waved her hand, “What thanks? It’s what I should do.”
After a pause, she added in a low voice, “As long as you’re alive, we can be safe.”
Bai Lan was speaking the truth. Currently, the conflict between Immortals and Demons was tense, and the battle at Yashan, guarded by the Sword Sect, was the most intense.
The disciples of the Sword Sect were fierce and unmatched by the disciples of other sects. Even when facing a stronger demon, three or two Sword Sect disciples could surround a high-level Demon General and even kill him with their swords.
With the Sword Sect guarding this final barrier, the Xuan Tian Realm would be much safer, especially for sects like Medicine King Valley, which specialized in medicine and weren’t skilled in combat. As long as the Sword Sect didn’t fall, they could continue to live peacefully.
“It’s not just my contribution.”
Shangguan Yu gently shook her head, “It’s also thanks to all of you, otherwise the Sword Sect wouldn’t have lasted this long.”
This was also true.
Medicine King Valley spared no effort in treating the Sword Sect disciples. Led by Bai Lan, almost all members of Medicine King Valley stayed within the Sword Sect, constantly treating the wounded brought back from the front lines. After many days, the disciples of Medicine King Valley were also exhausted.
Bai Lan was especially so.
She had to treat Shangguan Yu’s incredibly complex injuries and also spare time to check the rear to prevent some Sword Sect disciples from having serious injuries that weren’t treated in time.
The exhaustion involved was self-evident.
Shangguan Yu pinched her eyebrows, her eyes extremely dry. She was too tired, she slightly closed her eyes to relieve her dry eyeballs, when Bai Lan suddenly remembered something she hadn’t asked.
“Hey, what did you talk about with Wen Qing’s eldest disciple just now?”
Shangguan Yu raised an eyebrow, leaning against the bed and smiling, “You want to know?”
Bai Lan “tsk’d”, “Nonsense. If I didn’t want to know, why would I ask you?”
Shangguan Yu smiled with curved lips.
“Stop being mysterious. Say it if you’re going to, otherwise, I’m going back to rest.”
Bai Lan pouted.
She didn’t want to know that badly either.
Just at this moment, Shangguan Yu finally spoke, “I want her to take over my Sect Leader position.”
Bai Lan’s eyes widened the moment she clearly heard it. “What?!”
“I don’t agree!!”
Bai Lan’s roar traveled far.
She stood up abruptly, becoming extremely agitated. “I don’t agree!”
The position of Sect Leader was always extremely important. Unless the Sect Leader died or ascended, it wouldn’t be easily changed. Was Shangguan Yu thinking of passing on the position because her injuries were so severe that she feared she wouldn’t survive?
Moreover, passing it on to that reckless person? Wouldn’t choosing anyone else be better than choosing Wen Qing’s eldest disciple?
Bai Lan thought Shangguan Yu was worried that the Sword Sect would be leaderless after her death, so she anxiously tried to persuade her.
“I will find a way to treat your injuries. I won’t let you die; there will definitely be a way to cure you.”
Bai Lan firmly grabbed Shangguan Yu’s hand, “Believe me, I will definitely find a way to treat you.”
She had looked through many ancient texts these days, hoping to find similar symptoms to Shangguan Yu’s, and she would surely find a way.
But all her persuasions came to an abrupt halt upon hearing one of Shangguan Yu’s sentences.
“Bai Lan, I’m about to ascend.”
“So, there’s no need to look for medicine anymore.”
