- Chapter 33 - You Are Mine
Hospital, VIP Ward
A piercing sound of shattering glass echoed through the room.
Fang Qi smashed the last mirror. Blood seeped through the bandages wrapped around her head, which only left one bloodshot eye visible a truly terrifying sight.
She hysterically hurled everything from the bed onto the floor, her voice hoarse as she screamed, “I want Ye Qinglan to die a horrible death!”
Slap!
Fang Zhiqiang, who had rushed in, struck her across the face. His voice was thick with impatience. “Have you had enough? Do you know how many strings I had to pull to get you medical parole? Do you want to drag the entire Fang family down with you?”
Fang Qi’s head snapped to the side. The bandages slipped, revealing her gruesome wounds, yet she only laughed more maniacally. “Drag you down? Dad! Ye Qinglan ruined me! Look at my face! My life is over!”
“Is your face more important, or is the Fang Group more important?” Fang Zhiqiang lowered his voice, grabbing her wrist and pulling her close. “Listen. The lawyer I hired will be here soon. Speak to them properly. Better yet, find a way to beg President Song! She’s the only one who can get you out of this now!”
“But…”
“No buts!” Fang Zhiqiang squeezed her chin with enough force to crush bone. “The Song family has a deep background; this scandal won’t hurt her. But if your big mouth causes problems for the family company…”
His eyes turned sinister. “You know the consequences.”
Thinking of certain memories, Fang Qi trembled violently, the wounds under her bandages burning.
Fang Zhiqiang glanced toward the door and lowered his voice even further. “As for Ye Qinglan, do you really think she can cover the sky with one hand? Her mother, Ye Hui, is still in my hands. She wouldn’t dare move against us. Once you’re out, there will be plenty of opportunities for revenge!”
Looking at the greed in her father’s eyes, Fang Qi finally grew quiet. A twisted smile curled beneath the gauze. “Fine, I’ll listen to you. But I want Ye Qinglan to pay. I want her to…”
“Enough!” Fang Zhiqiang released her, straightening his suit cuffs. “Solve the immediate problem first. Remember: speak less, cooperate with the lawyer.”
Before he could finish, the ward door swung open. Both fell silent and looked toward the entrance.
A police officer stood there. “Mr. Fang, visiting hours are over.”
Fang Zhiqiang instantly donned the mask of a devoted father, gently patting his daughter’s shoulder. “Get some rest. Papa will see you tomorrow.”
As he turned to leave, he whispered, “Remember what I said.”
Once the door closed, Fang Qi collapsed onto the bed. Shaking, she picked up a shard of the mirror. A piercing pain throbbed beneath the bandages.
Was the hideous monster in the reflection truly the once-glamorous star?
“Ye Qinglan…” She gripped the bedsheets so hard her fingernails snapped, drawing blood she didn’t even feel. “I will make you… pay in blood…”
The Ye Residence
Exhausted, Su Jin fell into a deep sleep in Ye Qinglan’s arms, her steady breathing brushing against Ye’s neck.
Once she was certain Su Jin was sound asleep, Ye Qinglan carefully slid her arm out and tucked her in. Her fingertips lingered briefly on Su Jin’s warm earlobe, her gaze darkening with intensity.
Unable to resist, she pressed a soft kiss to Su Jin’s brow before donning her robe and leaving the bedroom.
Inside the study, a mechanical system voice rang out in the void:
[Ye Qinglan, you have consumed too much energy recently to shield that other system.]
The system’s voice held clear concern.
[Continuing like this will delay the extraction plan.]
Ye Qinglan closed the door and walked to the floor to ceiling window, her fingers absentmindedly tracing the frame. “The reason for everything I do is her. If I can’t keep her by my side, what meaning does this world have?”
[But the energy…]
“Energy isn’t an issue. As a primary character in the plot, Song Jing possesses no less energy than Fang Qi. Once this filming concludes, I will settle the scores one by one.”
The system fell silent for a moment before its electronic voice flickered.
[Are you certain that the person currently inhabiting that body is the Master?]
“Of course!” Ye Qinglan answered decisively, her eyes shining brilliantly in the morning light outside the window. “It is her! It finally sent my Sister back to me.”
The system became excited. [Then you must quickly accumulate energy to strip that ‘thing’ away from the Master! Once the Master regains her energy, I have a way to restore her memories!]
Once the Master regained her memories and completed the final mission, they could finally escape all control!
“No rush,” Ye Qinglan’s voice cooled. “Things must be done one at a time; people must be dealt with one by one.”
A radiant smile appeared on her face, though her trembling fingers curled into a fist. “As for the system currently parasitizing her…” Her tone took a sharp, chilling turn. “I’ll give it a few more days to jump around. When the time comes, I’ll settle the old and new debts together!”
The system calmed down at the sound of her voice. [Then what should we do now?]
Ye Qinglan tapped the windowpane thoughtfully. “You were right about one thing: points shouldn’t be wasted. It’s best if your ‘system’ presence disappears for a while.”
The system was confused.
She turned and sat in her office chair. “I will handle the rest. After you absorb Fang Qi’s energy, go into hiding immediately. Do not contact me for a short while to avoid being detected by the other system.”
The system wanted to ask what she planned to do, but it remained silent. Ye Qinglan always had her own plans, it had no right to question further.
[Understood,] the system said before vanishing completely.
Ye Qinglan sat in the study for a while before heading downstairs to cook.
In the Bedroom
A piercing ringtone jolted Su Jin from her sleep.
Groping blindly for the nightstand, she hissed as a dull ache throbbed in her waist. She grumbled under her breath, “No moderation at all… it’s not like this was our last meal together.”
Complaining aside, she answered the phone, her voice thick with sleep. “Hello?”
“Su Jin! You’ve hit the jackpot!” Sister Li’s excited voice nearly shattered her eardrum. “Our company is going to make it big!”
Su Jin was nearly deafened. She checked her phone, and seeing it was Sister Li, her sleepiness began to fade. “Sister Li, what’s going on?”
Sister Li’s voice trembled with suppressed euphoria. “Ye Qinglan’s manager just contacted the company. They want to team up to handle the public relations for this scandal! Do you know what this means?”
“What?”
Su Jin snapped awake and bolted upright, only to wince again at the soreness in her back. Ignoring the pain, she asked immediately, “Ye Qinglan wants to collaborate with the company?”
“Isn’t it a surprise?”
On the other end of the line, Sister Li misunderstood her reaction, her tone growing even more agitated. “I knew you’d understand how rare this opportunity is! You’d better stay glued to Ye Qinglan’s side; the whole company is counting on you to fly high!”
Su Jin frowned as she got out of bed, her bare feet sinking into the soft carpet. She grabbed a silk robe and threw it on, covering the intimate marks scattered across her body.
“Sister Li, Teacher Ye and I are just in a normal working relationship,” she responded coldly, her fingers absentmindedly tracing a hickey on her collarbone.
“Stop that act!” Sister Li lowered her voice. “The internet is going crazy; everyone says you two are dating. The company has already decided to strike while the iron is hot. We’re going to book several duo endorsements for you to maximize the hype. Use this chance to jump up a tier in the industry!”
“If you have the ability, whisper in her ear a bit more. Get Ye Qinglan to give you some resources. It would be best if you two could appear on a variety show together, though the film crew might not agree to that yet…”
Sister Li rambled on with her calculations, making it blatantly clear that she intended to exploit Ye Qinglan to the very end.
Su Jin felt a sudden wave of nausea. She couldn’t listen anymore and interrupted Sister Li directly: “I have things to do, I’m hanging up.”
“Wait!” Sister Li shouted hurriedly. “Everything I told you—you must take it to heart! If you want to survive long in this circle, you must have a backer! Your chance is right in front of you; grab it!”
After hanging up, Su Jin sat blankly on the bed, slowly rubbing her aching waist. The sunlight outside was perfect, but it left her feeling dazed. How did things turn out like this?
She picked up her phone and scrolled through Weibo. The top five trending topics were all related:
- #YeQinglanSuJinRelationshipConfirmed
- #LiveStreamConfessionPlayback
- #TheTruthBehindFangQiDisfigurement
- #SongJingCapitalManipulation
- #YeQinglanToxicFansLeavingFandom
Clicking into the first topic, she found an edited clip of her and Ye Qinglan’s “confession” from the livestream. The comment section was polarized, featuring a carnival of “CP fans” (shippers) and the vitriol of toxic solo stans.
【Does this 18th-tier flop even deserve her? She’s clearly just riding the coattails!】
【Ugh, divine love! The way President Ye looks at Jinjin the tension is palpable!】
【Am I the only one who thinks this is a publicity stunt? The new drama is about to air, right?】
Su Jin’s private messages were overflowing some full of envy, some cursing her out, and others asking for her “secrets to snagging a top star.”
Annoyed, she turned off notifications and tossed the phone aside. Although the System’s requirement was to develop in this direction, now that it was actually happening, she felt a pang of distress. Especially after the call with Sister Li, a sense of disgust welled up; she felt like she might throw up.
All these people were using Ye Qinglan, but no one truly cared about her.
While she was lost in her discomfort, she heard Ye Qinglan’s voice faintly from outside the door, seemingly on a phone call.
“…Don’t worry about the Fang family… Song Jing is already overwhelmed with her own mess…” Ye Qinglan’s voice was calm and restrained. “As for the topics online, just say directly that I am dating Su Jin. You handle the rest.”
Su Jin involuntarily pricked up her ears, only to hear footsteps suddenly approaching. She looked up just as she locked eyes with Ye Qinglan standing at the doorway.
The moment their gazes met, Ye Qinglan raised an eyebrow slightly, a hint of a smile flashing in the depths of her eyes.
“Alright, let’s leave it at that. We’ll talk about the rest later.” Ignoring the surprised exclamation on the other end, Ye Qinglan hung up.
“Ye Qinglan, I haven’t even said. ” Zhao Man’s voice abruptly vanished.
“You’re awake?” She walked in and sat naturally beside Su Jin, reaching out to rub her waist. “Is it still sore?”
The sunlight streamed in from behind her, outlining her silhouette in a golden glow. Su Jin suddenly remembered the absurdity of last night, and the tips of her ears burned: “It’s… it’s okay…”
“Is it?” Ye Qinglan’s movements were gentle. Her gaze swept over Su Jin’s messy collar, her eyes darkening for a moment. She didn’t do anything, however, only asking, “I thought you’d sleep until the afternoon. Why did you wake up so suddenly?”
“Sister Li called me,” Su Jin instinctively pulled her collar tighter. “She said the company wants to collaborate with your team for public relations.”
Ye Qinglan gave a soft “mm.” “I asked Zhao Man to contact them.”
She reached out to help Su Jin straighten the collar of her robe, her fingertips grazing the collarbone as if by accident. “It’s the perfect time to solidify our ‘relationship.'”
Su Jin was confused. “Why?”
“Why what?” Ye Qinglan feigned ignorance.
“Exposing the relationship,” she said. They weren’t actually dating…
“Because of you, of course.” Ye Qinglan smiled, but her expression held a shadowy intensity. “I must let everyone know that you are mine.”
Otherwise, she would go insane.
