After Failing to Reverse the Plot, I Made My Escape - Chapter 40
Memory Reset.
In the year Chun Chun turned seven, he witnessed his father and mommy fall from a great height with his own eyes. His world completely collapsed.
He seemed to have lost the ability to speak. His soul was stripped away as he sat woodenly in his wheelchair, his eyes wide to the limit, staring fixedly at the twisted, giant structure of the fallen Ferris wheel.
“Daddy.” “Mommy.”
His mind was a total blank. The world seemed to have lost all sound in this instant.
“No, don’t.”
He slowly reached out his hand, wanting to grasp the Ferris wheel that had already struck the ground with a resounding crash. At that moment, the mechanism began to malfunction, rotating chaotically. The remaining pods hanging above were in a precarious state.
“Daddy, Mommy.”
His voice sounded like an ancient organ, capable only of producing tuneless gasps that mixed with the tears surging down his deathly pale face.
The accompanying staff members had long been stunned by this sudden disaster. They were frantically trying to contact rescue services and maintain order, failing to look after him for a moment.
In that heartbeat, Chun Chun’s body suddenly lurched forward. He completely forgot he was sitting in a wheelchair. He forgot his legs could not walk. His mind held only one obsession.
“Go over there! Get to that spot! Get to Daddy and Mommy’s side!”
He forced his body upright, his hands clawing at the hard ground as he crawled forward step by step.
Another giant pod fell from above, the massive sound echoing in Chun Chun’s ears. He let out a small whimper. Terror paralyzed him, leaving his body trembling in small spasms.
“Almost there. Mommy is right in front.”
He had blocked it for Mommy once. He could block it a second time. Last time, he was just a little bit away from leaping into Mommy’s arms. This time was the same. This time, Daddy was there too.
“So, Chun Chun, try a little harder. Mommy and Daddy are up ahead. They are right there.”
“Why is there a child here?” “Whose child is this? It is too dangerous!” “Come back quickly!”
These voices could not enter his ears. His world consisted only of the distance ahead. Suddenly, a raging fire erupted in front of him. The flames were reflected in his eyes, and the oncoming heat wave felt as if it would scorch him.
Mommy had promised to watch the fireworks with him, and Daddy was supposed to be the little goat drummer tonight.
“Mommy.”
He felt himself being lifted. A long trail of blood was left on the ground. His movements had been so violent that his wounds had reopened, yet he felt no pain.
“Let me go!”
Chun Chun struggled, emitting incoherent, stubborn whimpers like a young bird calling for parents who would never return. Dust and blood stained his clothes, his cheeks, and his wet eyelashes.
“They are right in front of him! They are right there! Let me go over there! I want to find them! Let me go!”
Chun Chun struggled, but his legs hung limp and powerless, blood dripping from the wounds.
“Chun Chun!”
As if hearing a call, Chun Chun instinctively looked up. Xiao He held him in his arms, apologizing to the staff. “I am sorry.”
“Where are his parents?” The staff member braved the sudden burst of fire. Just a few inches more and Chun Chun would have been burned. The man’s face was covered in dust as he frowned and looked around. “What are the parents thinking, leaving such a small child in such a dangerous place? Also, did your parents never tell you not to run toward danger?”
The staff member wanted to continue the scolding but found that Chun Chun was trembling and pointing in one direction. “They are there. They are there.”
“Who?” The staff member did not hear clearly.
Chun Chun let out a whimper like a wounded animal. “Daddy and Mommy. They are there.”
“So I have to crawl over. As long as I crawl there, to my parents’ side, I can hear Mommy’s gentle voice again. I can return to my father’s firm, warm embrace.”
But then, another violent explosion erupted not far from them.
Trending Search: #Yu Fuqiu Ferris Wheel Fall
Breaking News: At approximately 8:30 PM local time tonight, a major safety accident occurred at a famous theme park in Country R. While a large observation Ferris wheel was at its highest point, part of the structure suddenly snapped, causing two pods to collide severely before hanging precariously in mid-air. Eyewitnesses and multiple foreign media outlets have confirmed that inside one of the pods were the well-known artist couple, Chang Tingzhi and Yu Fuqiu, along with their young son!

Flower Never Fades: “Stop spreading rumors, okay? Taking advantage of the chaos to spread lies, isn’t that disgusting?”
Always Happy: “This fan ran into Yu Fuqiu. The family of three was happily visiting the amusement park. It was just one incident. Do not believe or spread rumors. These people spreading lies never think about how much pain one sentence can bring to those who love them, okay?”
Little Cotton: “Waiting for official news!”
Meanwhile, under Yu Fuqiu’s Weibo:
Single Dog’s Daily: “Brother, can you come out and post a Weibo?”
Yuzu Loves Yuzu: “Brother, this is fake, right? You are still here, right? Long Journey has not been released yet, and Small Town Doctor has not even started filming. Brother, we are waiting for your return.”
Red Sun Rising: “I saw the trending searches today and truly cannot believe it. It is impossible. I have been your fan for fifteen years. I am waiting for you to post and break the rumors, to tell us everything is fine. I watched you go from small roles to Movie King, watched you go from being alone to having your own happy family. Qiuqiu, post something, please?”
Charge: “My family comes from a lineage of Feng Shui masters. I cast a hexagram, and the direction is very strange. It seems that ever since he came into contact with a certain person, first it was a car accident, now a Ferris wheel fall. It feels like he attracted something unclean, or something was replaced.”
Yu Fuqiu had that dream again.
Only this time, his perspective had shifted, and the plot within it had changed. From a third-person perspective, he saw Chang Tingzhi’s figure on a cold operating table.
“Tingzhi?”
Yu Fuqiu wanted to get close to him, but his entire body was immobile, fixed in place. He watched as a doctor entered with cold surgical instruments and asked Chang Tingzhi again, “Mr. Chang, are you certain you want to erase the second personality?”
“Erase the second personality? What does that mean?”
Chang Tingzhi, about to be injected with anesthesia, furrowed his brows. He opened his eyes and glanced toward Yu Fuqiu’s position. With just that one look, Yu Fuqiu was certain. The Chang Tingzhi lying on the table was his Chang Tingzhi, not the original protagonist of the book.
“To erase the second personality, did he mean to erase the original protagonist’s personality? Had his Chang Tingzhi finally come back in the end?”
The fluttering in his heart had just begun when it was frozen by a cold, unfamiliar gaze.
“But does Mr. Yu know?” The head surgeon leaned down, his voice very low, offering a final professional reminder. “Mr. Chang, I must inform you again of the worst-case scenario. When the second personality fought your primary personality for control, certain emotional memories became deeply integrated. Especially the neural circuits related to Mr. Yu Fuqiu. Once he is completely cleared, even if these memories are not erased, their emotional color will be permanently stripped away. You may never feel anything for him again, whether it is love or hate.”
The doctor’s words were tactful, but the meaning was clear. After the surgery, Yu Fuqiu would become a total stranger in his heart. Not even hate would remain.
Chang Tingzhi suddenly gave a light laugh. “He probably still thinks I am doing this for him. It is exactly this kind of cheap self-indulgence that bores me. A person who constantly blackmails me using old favors and that broken body of his, a waste who only knows how to use tears and weakness to kidnap me emotionally. Who knows how many men had him when he was a ‘One-Night Bride’? A dirty, used shoe.”
His tone was as flat as if he were evaluating an insignificant old object.
“Clear it as cleanly as possible.” He paused, as if emphasizing a point. “I only need to remember who stayed by my side with dignity during my most chaotic times.”
The image of Ke Qian quietly accompanying him seemed to float before his eyes, forming a cruel contrast with Yu Fuqiu’s hysterical or grief-stricken face.
“It is Ke Qian. We are the perfect match, destined lovers. Yu Fuqiu is nothing more than a thief. If not for him, how could I have missed fifteen years with An An? He must eventually atone for his sins. Greed always carries a punishment. I want to start over, become clean, and love him.”
“Oh, right,” Chang Tingzhi added before falling into complete unconsciousness. “That little brat killed An An’s favorite fish, didn’t he? Hang him over the sea to be shark bait. Make An An happy.”
“Little brat? Chun Chun?”
Yu Fuqiu’s breath stopped. He watched with a vacant gaze as the cold scalpel cut into Chang Tingzhi’s brain to erase the second personality.
“Had the future changed? Because of his intervention? Was this the ending the plot wanted to show him? Was it a warning that if he continued to interfere, he and Chun Chun would both meet this end?”
But he needed to hear these things from Chang Tingzhi himself, not see them in these illusory, uncertain scenes!
He only remembered that when they fell from the Ferris wheel, a look of panic and loss appeared on Chang Tingzhi’s usually calm face. Disregarding himself entirely, the man had lunged forward to hold Yu Fuqiu tightly in his arms.
“Sigh, the injuries are too severe this time. Falling from the highest point of the Ferris wheel. If they do not die, they will be crippled. Mr. Yu’s injuries are slightly lighter. When he was found, he was being held in Mr. Chang’s arms, so his brain did not suffer a major blow. But Mr. Chang’s head hit the ground. The situation is not optimistic.”
Yu Fuqiu tried with great effort to open his eyes. So heavy, so heavy. He could not open them.
“Where was Tingzhi? How was Chun Chun? Was he frightened?”
“Then what is the worst-case scenario?”
Yu Fuqiu could not hear clearly, only catching the doctor’s faint words. “Mr. Chang’s injuries from the previous car accident had not even healed, and now he has fallen from a great height. At worst, he will lose his life. Even if he is saved, he will be in a vegetative state. At best, he wakes up, but he might forget everything.”
