- After Failing To Mark The Movie Queen Omega, I Ended Up With A Cub
- Chapter 5 - Keeping Up the Coaxing. Brave Ning Ke, Afraid of No Hardships.
Ning Ke, who suddenly realized her primary mission was to grind Fan Qingyin’s favorability points, instantly threw herself into her work with dutiful dedication.
After finishing the feeding session, Ning Ke pulled up the favorability interface. Seeing her life force remaining completely stagnant save for the ticking countdown, she felt a wave of despair. She truly hadn’t expected that Fan Qingyin wouldn’t grant her even a single point of favorability!
Glancing at Fan Qingyin’s completely cleaned out food bowls, Ning Ke then cast a deeply resentful look at her own portion of the nutritional meal, which had already gone cold.
To not raise a single favorability point after all that… Fan Qingyin, are you even human!
Ning Ke secretly wiped away a tear of bitter sorrow. Realizing that Fan Qingyin’s heart was currently as cold as stone, she still couldn’t just starve herself. Thus, she picked up a sweet salad radish, planning to pad her stomach with it.
Then, with just one bite, it was so spicy that Ning Ke nearly jumped right up.
“Ding! Fan Qingyin’s favorability +1. Successfully exchanged for two hours.”
The sudden notification system announcement left Ning Ke in a daze. Beside her, Fan Qingyin sneered, “Seeing you bring me so many radishes, I actually thought you just particularly fancied this flavor!”
So, it turned out that Fan Qingyin would only be happy if she saw her suffering misfortune? No, wait, was there really no other way around this?
Refusing to give up, Ning Ke rinsed her mouth with water, turned back to find something else to eat, and pondered whether there were other ways to please someone while she ate. As she thought about it, she couldn’t help but recall the “empire” of gifts Yang Xu had brought when visiting her this morning.
If she remembered correctly, that pile of random clutter seemed to contain a bit of everything, flowers, ornaments, plush toys…
Ning Ke had actually asked someone to take the food gifts back to Yang Xu. She wasn’t the original host, after all, and possessed absolutely no interest in those bizarre, dark cuisine flavors.
However, the moving company responsible for transferring her things told her that they were on holiday today and could only make one trip; the rest of the items would have to wait until tomorrow.
Ning Ke had initially wanted to call another company, but at that moment, she suddenly remembered she hadn’t asked about Fan Qingyin’s dietary restrictions. She forgot about the matter shortly after, and only now did she feel that perhaps she could have unearthed a few bouquets of flowers from that pile.
Yet, when Ning Ke walked into her own ward and rummaged through the items repeatedly, let alone a flower, she couldn’t even find a single leaf.
Ning Ke scratched her head and couldn’t help but mutter, “How strange.”
Ning Ke hadn’t locked the door when she entered. A nurse making her rounds uttered a surprised “Huh?” outside before pushing the door open. Upon seeing that it was Ning Ke, she let out a sigh of relief and asked out of curiosity, “Why did you come back?”
This rounding nurse wasn’t the same one from Fan Qingyin’s room, rather, she was the one who had set up Ning Ke’s IV drip earlier.
So Ning Ke confessed honestly, “I wanted to give someone flowers, but for some reason, the flowers that were placed nearby earlier seem to have completely vanished…”
The nurse blinked, a little puzzled. “I think Doctor Ning came by and took them away. He probably gave them to your mother on your behalf?”
Ning Ke was stunned. “Why would he give them to Mom?”
“Because your ward was entirely filled with carnations… Wait, Miss Ning didn’t know about this?”
Ning Ke shook her head blankly. She couldn’t fathom why Yang Xu would send her carnations. Had his brain short-circuited or something? At the same time, she felt a bit of regret in her heart. “And here I thought there would be roses…”
She said this sentence softly, but it was still caught by the sharp eared nurse. The nurse blinked, as if remembering something.
“Roses? There’s a flower shop right at the hospital entrance, you know? You can go check it out.”
Ning Ke’s eyes instantly lit up.
Not long after, Ning Ke, triumphantly squeezing her way back into the ward while cradling a massive bouquet of roses, froze as her peripheral vision caught Fan Qingyin resting with her eyes closed.
Alright, it seemed she hadn’t timed this well.
After a moment’s thought, Ning Ke drew nine flowers from the bouquet, meticulously snipped off their stems, and placed them into a slender glass vase.
While she was occupied with this, the previous rounding nurse stepped in again. She checked the instrument readings, made a few notations on the medical chart, and cast a curious glance at Ning Ke.
“What are you doing?”
Ning Ke hastily stabilized the vase on the window sill, then gave her a “shh” gesture, speaking in a tiny whisper. “She just fell asleep, let’s not wake her.”
The nurse caught her drift and closed her mouth. Looking at Ning Ke and then at the bouquet of roses, her eyes couldn’t help but fill with a touch of envy.
Being looked at like this by the young lady, Ning Ke instantly felt a bit swept away again. She scratched her head and stepped down from the side, only to hear the nurse also cooperate by whispering back to her, “Is that big bouquet of roses a gift for Miss Fan?”
Ning Ke nodded without a moment’s hesitation. “Of course.”
Who else would it be for?
The little nurse’s eyes sparkled as she spoke, “Miss Fan is so fortunate to have such a thoughtful Alpha who even remembers to give her flowers. If I were Miss Fan, I would definitely be thrilled to death.”
Ning Ke’s eyes instantly sparkled as well. “Really? She’ll really be that happy?”
The little nurse nodded vigorously, the envy in her eyes growing more pronounced. It made Ning Ke feel a bit embarrassed. Thinking that she still had plenty of roses left, she suddenly felt generous.
“Seeing how much you like roses, how about I give you a few flowers too?”
The little nurse froze. Heaven knows what crossed her mind, but her face suddenly flushed red. Ning Ke also froze, only then realizing what she had just blurted out.
…Damn it. She had subconsciously treated the nurse she’d met only a few times as a close acquaintance, completely failing to realize that the girl was in the spring of her youth…
And that wasn’t the end of it. While Ning Ke’s brain was frantically brainstorming how to avoid this emergency situation, the little nurse had already lowered her head and spoken bashfully, “Oh, that would be so embarrassing…”
Wait, you’ve misunderstood!
Before Ning Ke could even explain, a voice so familiar it made her suffocate crashed down upon her from behind, pelting her with a harsh sentence. “If you want to perform some melodramatic drama of mutual affection and playing hard to get, get the hell out of here to put on your show.”
“Especially you, Ning Ke. I find it embarrassing. Do you understand?”
Ning Ke turned around with tears in her eyes. Sure enough, Fan Qingyin had already awakened. At this moment, her expression was incredibly dark as she glared at them gloomily.
After that, no matter what Ning Ke did, the result remained the same. Fan Qingyin’s expression showed absolutely no ripples. Her heart, which had seemed to show some slight signs of loosening up this morning, had completely shut tight all at once.
Ning Ke still wanted to try offering the flowers as a tribute, believing that Omegas should generally like flowers.
In the end, Fan Qingyin cast a glance at the roses in her hand, then looked up at her and let out a cold laugh. “Giving me roses? Are you looking down on me?”
Ning Ke hugged her legs and sat on the bench outside the ward for a whole hour, completely unable to fathom why Fan Qingyin would say such a thing.
But time waited for no one. Especially given that Ning Ke had only pulled in a single hour of income today, night was fast approaching. Sleeping hours would also deduct from her life force, which meant wouldn’t she…
Oh, wait.
Ning Ke pondered for a moment and realized that even under the best case scenario, she might only survive until after dinner.
Sleeping? What even was that? There was absolutely no need to consider it. If Fan Qingyin didn’t add more favorability points to her, she would just end up sleeping here eternally!
Is this reasonable? Is this humane?
Ning Ke felt she couldn’t just accept her fate like this. Bitterly reflecting on her mistakes, she realized she had still fallen into a logical trap.
The attentive methods of grinding favorability, such as asking after someone’s well-being, giving flowers, and feeding them meals were entirely useless. Thus, everything returned to the starting point, only when she was down on her luck would Fan Qingyin be happy.
This was truly a despairing fact. Ning Ke looked up at the sky in speechless resignation, the sins committed by the original host just had to be repaid by her.
And she couldn’t even choose not to repay them. In a certain sense, Ning Ke could be considered the original host’s “mother” (creator), so it was no wonder the system dragged her into this world. Sigh, perhaps this is what they call drawing the wrath of both gods and men.
While Ning Ke was off to the side drowning in her autumn sorrows, the system refused to let her off easy, jumping out dutifully to announce:
“Respected host, you have two hours of life force remaining. Please be sure to seize the time, otherwise, you will be obliterated.”
Ning Ke leaned against the bench listlessly and let out a lamenting sigh. In the end, she could only stand up, brushing off non-existent dust from her clothes while thinking. One last push!
If she still couldn’t raise the favorability points this time, then… then she could only resort to selling herself out!
Ning Ke had never realized so clearly that Fan Qingyin was a little white rabbit who had already blackened. After all, honestly speaking, which rabbit’s favorability points would be this difficult to grind?!
Was her feeding movement not tender enough? Were the roses she trimmed not beautiful enough? Was her affectionate appearance not sincere enough?
Ning Ke wanted to roar out loud. “Fan Qingyin, turn around and look at me! What are you going to use to pay back the life you owe me!”
Of course, that was just a thought. How could Ning Ke dare to roar at Fan Qingyin now? She wished she could enshrine Fan Qingyin like a deity, only hoping this great Buddha could casually bestow a few favorability points upon her.
Regrettably, Fan Qingyin was a block of wood who didn’t understand her heart.
She finished her final effort, feeding Fan Qingyin dinner and almost washing the dishes for her personally. In the end, the caregiving auntie snatched the bowls away directly and threw her out without standing on ceremony, telling her to “stay far away and stop adding to the mess.”
Ning Ke walked out dejectedly, listening to the system broadcast in her ear. “There are ten minutes remaining. Respected host, please be sure to seize the time!”
While Ning Ke complained in her heart that this system was quite AI like for knowing how to vary its sentence structures, she slouched her shoulders and stepped into Fan Qingyin’s ward.
To be honest, she didn’t really want to face Fan Qingyin. After all, anyone would feel heavily demoralized upon discovering that their passionate enthusiasm had been entirely met with a cold shoulder, right? But the problem now was that she didn’t have any choice at all.
The more she thought about it, the more pitiful she felt herself to be. Deeply immersed in weeping for her own plight, Ning Ke didn’t pay attention to her feet and instantly tripped forward.
In reality, Ning Ke still had a chance to steady her body at this moment. After all, as an Alpha, even if her eldest brother considered her physical fitness poor, the basic foundation of an Alpha was still present. Her reaction speed and agility were of the highest tier, how could she possibly fail to avoid a single trip?
But at that exact moment, Ning Ke recalled the conclusion she had reached this morning, which had even been validated by a single point of favorability this afternoon.
Her mind hesitated for a single second. In the end, she didn’t move a muscle, allowing herself to take a massive fall right in front of Fan Qingyin.
Her head felt a bit numb from the impact, but simultaneously, the system’s broadcast rang out once more.
“Target character Fan Qingyin’s favorability +30. Successfully exchanged for 60 hours. Please keep up the good work, host.”
Ning Ke took advantage of the position to remain sprawled on the ground, rolling her eyes.
