After Entering a Contract Relationship with Hisoka - Chapter 3
The socially anxious Immortal Venerable Liya was hesitating between reaching out or staying silent when she suddenly sensed the original owner’s obsession stirring restlessly, as if urging her toward something. Only then did she remember that she had yet to clarify the details of that betting contract.
Since she currently lacked a Golden Core level of cultivation to craft a transmission talisman, Liya temporarily set aside her desire to communicate and closed her eyes, sinking into her sea of consciousness.
Lilia’s presence remained in the sea of consciousness as a faint, misty figure. Generally, memories that linger in a body are things the person valued deeply in life. Furthermore, if a memory has transformed into a literal obsession, the soul occupying the body must help fulfill it or else they will suffer a backlash. This was one of the reasons Liya had accepted the fight earlier. She could not refuse Lilia’s obsession.
After defeating Aura, although Lilia’s obsession had weakened significantly, a wisp of a remnant thought remained, refusing to dissipate. It seemed she would only leave peacefully once the contents of the bet were fulfilled.
From her most private and secret pocket, Liya pulled out a neatly folded piece of paper. This was the content of the bet between Lilia and Aura. For some reason, Lilia cherished this matter deeply, guarding it so closely that she refused to reveal it even through memory. When Liya moved to open the paper, that wisp of remnant thought actually flickered with a strange sense of shyness. Influenced by this, Liya’s expression became solemn.
Upon unfolding the paper, she saw the bet between the two:
Whoever loses must get lost and go home! The winner gets to be Master Hisoka’s contract girlfriend for three months.
At the very bottom, there were not only the signatures and fingerprints of the two girls, but also a small, unignorable “~☆.”
After reading this absurd contract, Liya, an ancestor who had practiced the Heartless Path for a thousand years, was suddenly lost. She was born with a closed emotional aperture; she did not feel joy or sorrow. Her emotions were like a pool of stagnant water, devoid of any ripples. In extreme situations, the most she felt was a moment of bewilderment. Even that bewilderment had only happened a few times in her life.
To be Hisoka’s contract girlfriend for three months? She recalled Aura’s words from earlier: “You took the chance to talk to Master Hisoka before the bet was even settled!” and “Master Hisoka’s girlfriend will definitely be me in the end!” Finally, there was the announcer’s blessing for her victory in both love and battle.
Liya realized with a start that she had completely ignored those hints. Had she known, she would not have won. What was a possession backlash compared to this? Could it be more terrifying than falling in love? To ask an old soul who had lived for over a thousand years to play at love with a young man in his twenties? Was this not a case of an “old cow eating tender grass”?
After her initial confusion, Liya felt that this was absolutely unacceptable! Perhaps sensing her resistance, Lilia’s soul suddenly became agitated and resentful.
“Do not worry, allow me to consider it,” Liya spoke to soothe her.
Seeing Lilia pacing frantically within the sea of consciousness, Liya tried to calm her, but Lilia grew even more anxious, crashing around like a vengeful spirit. Liya was speechless. Ten seconds later, she said, “Fine, fine. I agree.”
Having received an affirmative answer, Lilia finally quieted down. Liya let out a deep sigh. Her compromise was not out of fear of a backlash, but rather because she could not get past her own conscience regarding cause and effect. Cultivators value the laws of nature and the cycle of karma. She had taken someone else’s body; that was the cause. Fulfilling the person’s final wish was the effect. Dating Hisoka for three months was the final wish born of Lilia’s contract. Absurd as it was, a final wish was a final wish.
So, what should she do next? Should she go find Hisoka? Liya’s eyes were unusually hollow. How does one “date”? How does one act as a girlfriend? Was she supposed to form a Dao partnership and engage in dual cultivation?
Just as her mind began to drift, someone appeared behind her unnoticed. Hisoka leaned against the wall, his figure tall and well-proportioned. He constantly emitted a bloodlust that usually caused people to notice only his power, ignoring his handsome features. But at this moment, his mood was very calm. There was no bloodlust or malice; he simply watched the girl from a short distance, his brow lowered. The man truly was quite handsome.
When Liya looked over, she happened to lock eyes with his golden gaze. She did not know how long he had been standing there. She did not know what the strong emotion in those sharp, beautiful eyes was. She did not know why a man like him would agree to such an absurd bet in the first place. Liya had too many things she did not know and could not figure out.
As she was thinking, the original owner’s remnant thought suddenly surged in strength. After Hisoka walked over, she blurted out, “Do you… do you want to share a bed and pillow with me?”
“Oh? ~☆”
Hisoka had not expected her to be so open as to ask for a bed within the first sentence. He replied with an amused tone, “Even though I look like that type of person, I am actually quite conservative on the inside. We have three months, little girl. Shall we develop things slowly?”
Liya, caught off guard by being set up by the remnant soul, was speechless. She felt the remnant thought’s overwhelming desire to be close to him. She pressed her lips together tightly and decided not to speak anymore, her face appearing even colder than before.
Hisoka had not expected her to be so stiff. His curious gaze slowly swept over the girl, from her smooth forehead to her exquisite features, finally landing on those eyes. They were a pair of light blue peach-blossom eyes flecked with what looked like ice shards, making one shiver yet feel mesmerized. Hisoka liked these eyes; they made her seem less stupid.
He even began to wonder if this girl had always looked like this. Why did she feel like a completely different person compared to the dark, twisted Lilia in his memory? Until a day ago, this person was a fool who would only dodge and act submissive when meeting him, while secretly stalking him, taking pictures, and sexually harassing him. If it were not for maintaining his relationship with Illumi, as he still had business dealings with Illumi and did not want to break ties yet, he might have already killed this tactless creature.
The reason he had agreed to that bet was not because he liked either of the two girls. In fact, it was quite the opposite.
Hisoka recalled the scene when a group of young girls had noisily knocked on his door. They were likely so caught up in their argument that they forgot to be afraid, only realizing how life-threatening the move was once he opened the door. The group of teenagers huddled like quails at the door of the God of Death, looking at one another. Hisoka felt a rare sense of helplessness. Let alone killing them, he was not even in the mood to speak.
Just as he was about to close the door, someone quick-handed handed him a piece of paper. Hisoka took it and glanced at it; it was a childish, ridiculous betting contract for a romance. He was the male lead. Then he looked at the signatures. Aura Rockefeller. Yes, he knew her. This girl had been stalking and investigating him for a year. The Rockefeller family was massive, with numerous subordinates and complex roots. Killing her would bring a pack of dogs following him, which would interfere with his fun traveling the world, so he had ignored her. Fortunately, this girl was sensible enough not to loiter in front of him too often.
Lately, his mood had not been great; there was no telling when he might lose his patience. And the other person was Lilia Zoldyck. He knew her too, as she was Illumi’s sister. He heard that because of her “love-brain” sickness, she had pestered someone she should not have messed with. The Zoldyck family reached their limit and threw her into Heavens Arena for training. Illumi had even complained to him specifically that this sister was a massive headache.
At the time, Hisoka had spoken mockingly, “So even Little Illumi has someone he cannot handle? How rare. ~”
It was not until he personally experienced being stalked, photographed, sent anonymous flowers, and bombarded with cringey love texts that Hisoka truly understood how outrageous a person could be to make someone as expressionless as Illumi lose his cool.
Looking at the two names on the contract, Hisoka had laughed behind his hand on the spot. He was actually quite annoyed. Out of some sense of spite, he agreed to their invitation and left the symbol representing his participation: ~☆. He would treat it as a sweet surprise. Whoever wins will be the one he kills. At worst, he would be hunted by the Zoldyck family or the Rockefeller family. That should be quite fun as well.
Returning to the present, Hisoka’s voice was gentle as he said, “But the current little Lilia-chan has suddenly become delicious. ~☆”
So delicious that he did not want to kill her yet. He remembered that modified, mysterious playing card and that look in her eyes. Regardless, a romance game is something he could play for a bit! He could kill her once he had enough fun.
Hisoka raised his hand to brush the long hair away from the girl’s eyes. He had not noticed before that she truly had beautiful hair; it was silver-white, fluffy, and soft. As his fingers moved through it, the strands flowed through his fingertips like water. It was truly beautiful. Sapphire-like eyes stared at him without blinking. It was also very beautiful.
Hisoka could not help but rub the back of her head. Liya was rubbed for a long time as if she were a cat. Under Lilia’s control, she tilted her head and actively nuzzled into Hisoka’s palm. Hisoka chuckled and, in a dominant yet intimate posture, leaned down and kissed her earlobe.
“Well then, for the next three months, please look after me. ~”
Hisoka had gone straight to the spectator stands after finishing his match and had not gone to the counter to handle the paperwork. Afterward, Liya accompanied him to the 170th floor to check in, collect rewards, and open a room to stay in. It was not until Hisoka took his clothes into the bathroom to wash up that the original owner’s remnant thought finally weakened as if exhausted, curling up in a corner of the sea of consciousness.
Liya regained full control of the body. In front of the dressing table, the girl’s exquisite features slowly shifted from passionate to indifferent. The clarity and silliness in her light blue eyes faded; when she closed and reopened them, they were like a deep, tranquil well.
Liya looked at the girl in the mirror and said softly, “You worry too much. Even if you do not come out, I will fulfill your final wish. You do not need to do anything extra.”
Taking control of the body was a huge drain on Lilia. After all, the will of a Tribulation Transcendence stage immortal was nothing to joke about. Even though the ascension failed, Liya’s soul was still extremely powerful and domineering. If she ever desired to cast Lilia out, she could deal her a heavy blow at any time.
Once before the arena match and once just now, she had proven this. If Lilia tried to seize control of the body again, her soul might very well dissipate. However, Liya had taken her body for no clear reason, so she felt pity and a sense of debt toward her.
“Rest well. Leave the rest to me,” she promised.
Lilia’s remnant soul flickered slightly, conveying a sense of gratitude, before falling into a deep sleep. There was no telling when she would wake next.
Having comforted Lilia, Liya began to think seriously about how to date Hisoka. She was not just humoring her when she said that; she truly intended to keep the promise. She could not bring herself to just fake it for three months. To have cultivated for a thousand years in a place as harsh as the Far North proved that Liya was a person of firm resolve. Once she decided on a path, she would see it through properly. Not only would she do it, but she would also do her absolute best.
Although it might go against the natural order for someone of the Heartless Path to enter the world of mortal emotions, she looked through the window of the 170th floor at the lights of the city. This was no longer her original world. Was she supposed to suffer through another thousand years of cultivation? Was she supposed to continue those days of being neither alive nor dead?
The sound of water continued in the bathroom. While Hisoka was still showering, Liya pulled a cell phone out of her small dress. Having zero experience in romance, she decided to consult someone. She opened an app and clicked on her contacts. Through her memories, Liya learned that people in this world could use something called the “Internet” to send messages across great distances without meeting. It was very similar to a transmission talisman, yet different.
A transmission talisman required you to know the person first. On this app, you could contact someone first and get to know them later. You could even contact them without ever meeting. It was perfect for someone with a thousand years of social anxiety like her.
After scrolling for a while, Liya selected a person from the address book. First, this person’s profile picture was a handsome, stylish man who looked like he would be very good at romance. Second, Liya looked at the original owner’s chat history with him. It was from four or five months ago. Some of the messages had expired, leaving only two sentences in the dialog box:
LiLiLi: He completely ignores me. What should I do? Hero: Pray to Buddha and chant sutras. Sincerity brings results.
Good. Having consulted the other person on interpersonal issues proved they were reliable. The lack of recent conversation suggested they were not close in real life. Furthermore, the other person seemed to believe in Buddhism. Although Buddhist cultivation differed from her Heartless Path, all paths lead to the same destination. Liya found a rare sense of familiarity.
It would be him. Liya carefully chose her words, then edited and sent the message. At that moment, in the Meteor City base far away, Shalnark’s phone vibrated. He pulled it out and lit up the screen.
Zoldyck Idiot: Excuse me, how do you date someone? Zoldyck Idiot: Urgent.
