Chapter 59.1: Dissolution of the Contract
The next day, Liang Xiuyue arrived at Fang Ziyue’s door as promised, leading a large group of people.
Nearly everyone in the Liang household had been summoned, with only the old butler being set aside by Liang Xiuyue. The old butler, whose life progress had passed the four-fifths mark, offered incense to the deceased Master Liang that day, his eyes filled with lamentation. His young master had ultimately been bewitched by that woman, Gu Qiaorou; he had become overly ambitious, muddled, and arrogant. How much longer could a Liang family like this last?
The little mermaid, who had slept beautifully in the pool, rubbed her eyes as she climbed out. The golden sunlight shone upon the washed fruit at the poolside, making them look increasingly enticing. A bright red apple looked very sweet and crisp, but the mermaid wrinkled her nose and used one finger to push it aside, her little look of disdain completely undisguised.
Having moved away the apple she hated most, Ling Qiu looked at the other plates. Yellow apples, green apples, tiny apples…
Ling Qiu: “…”
“Fang Ziyue!”
The little mermaid’s huffy shout traveled across the long courtyard and reached the ears of the woman sitting on the balcony, who was beautifully eating an apple pie. Taking a bite of the delicious pie, Fang Ziyue pretended not to hear the little mermaid’s shout, continuing to admire the flowers and watch the fish—specifically, watching a huffy little mermaid who was so angry she looked like she might catch fire and braise herself.
After calling several times and seeing that the human hadn’t come over, the little mermaid pouted, looking at the apples before her with a look of extreme grievance. She didn’t like eating this thing at all. Although they contained very rich energy, she just didn’t like them. She thought that since she had sung last night to soothe that “bad person’s” spiritual power, even if there was no glory, there was at least hard work involved; even if she wasn’t given a delicious meal, there shouldn’t be apples…
Lustrous pearls fell into the pool, patter-patter, just like Ling Qiu’s breaking heart. It was being smashed to pieces by these big apples!
The woman sitting on the balcony paused her chewing and finally let out a helpless sigh. Fine—no matter what the punishment was, the one who felt the heartache in the end was always herself. She couldn’t bear to hit her “wife,” much less scold her. She had finally thought of a way to discipline her wife, only to be the first to surrender. She simply couldn’t stand to see her cry or be sad.
The little mermaid, who was gathering pearls while shedding tears, sniffled, feeling she was dying of grievance. She was already so sad, yet she still had to pick up pearls for that “bad woman.” There was no helping it. Humans were so fragile; they couldn’t breathe underwater, and they got sick easily if their clothes got wet. That human was bad, but she didn’t want anything to happen to her.
The little mermaid’s dark blue eyes were wide open, and a tender pink had been cried into her pale cheeks, making her look much healthier. In a very childish manner, she took the apples from the plate and poked them far away, then placed a large handful of pearls into the pale blue porcelain dish.
Clatter… The crisp, melodious sound of pearls hitting the dish made the little mermaid pout with dissatisfaction. She had cried for so long, yet she still hadn’t filled this plate. Ling Qiu sprawled gloomily at the edge of the pool, flicking her tail with both grievance and stubbornness. Fine, she wouldn’t eat breakfast; let her starve to death then!
The moody little mermaid heard Fang Ziyue’s footsteps approaching from afar, eventually stopping beside her, but she didn’t look up. She just buried her face in her arms, refusing to look at that “bad and stingy” human.
“What? Are you throwing a tantrum?” Fang Ziyue was both annoyed and amused by the sight. She truly didn’t have the heart to coax Ling Qiu today. Who could understand the feeling of opening one’s eyes and seeing one’s “wife” covered in the aura of death? That feeling of the heart being wrung together, forgetting even to breathe, the brain going blank—she never wanted to experience it a second time. If Ling Qiu hadn’t still been breathing, she really wasn’t sure if she would have gone mad again. Just like in the real world…
A wave of intense sorrow and pain radiated from beside her, and the little mermaid looked up in surprise. This one glance crashed into a pair of deep eyes. The bad woman’s black eyes were like a bottomless abyss, wrapping around her with countless shadows. The woman, moving forward under a heavy burden of pain in the darkness, seemed to be waiting for someone to save her.
Save her, save her!
The little mermaid’s tears, which had just stopped, fell again. She nearly scrambled to hug Fang Ziyue, heedless of the water on her body soaking the other’s clothes. A pair of well-defined, cold hands touched Fang Ziyue’s cheeks, rubbing beneath her eyes. Ling Qiu desperately wanted to wipe away the other’s tears; even though Fang Ziyue wasn’t crying, she… she just knew. This human was crying, crying very, very sadly.
The little mermaid pressed the tip of her nose against Fang Ziyue’s forehead, nuzzling her incessantly while coaxing her with a trembling voice: “Don’t cry… don’t cry. I’ll hug you, give you pearls… don’t cry…”
Clearly, she was the one crying a mess, yet she used her own way to comfort Fang Ziyue. Fang Ziyue’s heart softened for a moment from the nuzzling. Her near-collapsing emotions slowly recovered. Separated by a world, she was being protected and coaxed by her wife, almost making her forget that she hadn’t fully recovered from her “illness.” She had also nearly frightened her little mermaid.
Fang Ziyue reached out to return the hug, comforting her little mermaid who was being urgent and disorganized. She stroked her long hair and gently kneaded the back of her neck, like petting a cat. The little mermaid, who had been tense and crying uncontrollably, was rubbed until her body went limp; she was so lightheaded and comfortable she nearly let out a moan.
She snuggled in Fang Ziyue’s arms, her dark blue eyes squinting, her small head nodding as she drifted off to sleep in a daze. Fang Ziyue held her, occasionally brushing her cold, small nose; her heart gradually settled, eventually becoming calm and soft.
But this moment of peace did not last long.
“Bang! You, surnamed Fang! Where are you? Get out here right now!” A flamboyant, overbearing male voice rang out abruptly.
The little mermaid, who had just been dazing off and dreaming of eating grapes, was suddenly “hit on the head by a big apple.” The loud Bang! startled her awake immediately. Her dark blue eyes were round and wide—excessively cute.
“Fang, I know you’re home. Bring that lunatic out here! Young Master Liang wants to see her.” The man’s voice grew louder and his tone increasingly impatient.
The little mermaid, suddenly awakened, saw her sharp nails abruptly grow long, and even her two cute little fangs suddenly lengthened. A grim, cold watery mist accompanied by the pressure of the deep sea appeared; the mermaid had entered combat mode. She shielded the water-soaked woman behind her, staring warily at the door being pounded.
Fang Ziyue had no doubt that if the people outside dared to barge in, the mermaid before her would tear them to shreds instantly. But not yet.
Fang Ziyue patted Ling Qiu’s shoulder. The little mermaid turned her head in alarm, her dark blue eyes seemingly speaking, comforting Fang Ziyue not to be afraid. With her there, she would protect this fragile human.
“It’s okay. Change back first. We’re going out.” Fang Ziyue fearlessly took Ling Qiu’s hand. Feeling the soft warmth of the human palm, the little mermaid instinctively retracted her nails, afraid of hurting her.
Ling Qiu’s attentiveness and sense of protection made Fang Ziyue squint with happiness. She interlaced her fingers with Ling Qiu’s, leading her mermaid to change clothes. For the sake of appearances, Fang Ziyue took out a set of old clothes she had scrounged from somewhere. After putting the ragged clothes on Ling Qiu, Fang Ziyue messed up her wife’s hair and dirtied the little mermaid’s fair, beautiful face until her original appearance was unrecognizable.
“A knife hangs over the word ‘lust'”; many people find it hard to pass the trial of a beauty, risking everything for a pretty face. Fang Ziyue didn’t want to cause more trivial matters, so she simply discussed it with the little mermaid: “Ling Qiu-qiu, don’t make a sound later. Just be like you were at the Liang house, and leave everything else to me, okay?”
The woman’s eyes held pure kindness and warm affection, which made Ling Qiu happily wag her very ill-fitting sleeves. She nodded, her eyes curving into crescents. She trusted Fang Ziyue. This human was a bit silly, fragile, and always loved teasing her with bad intentions, but she was good to her and wouldn’t harm her.
The little mermaid’s trust was like a thin red thread, one end of which was firmly tied to Fang Ziyue’s fingertip. The drifting little mermaid had lost her way in the waves, gotten lost on the coast, and come to the barren, black land. When she was lost and helpless, that thin red line brought a fragile yet warm human to her. Ling Qiu had seen the darkness of the deep sea—a cold black. She had also seen the pitch-black nights on the desolate planet, accompanied by the lights of ten thousand homes and the laughter of others, leaving her only with loneliness and silence.
But now… Ling Qiu held Fang Ziyue’s hand, stood on her tiptoes, and her cold, pink-white lips kissed the other’s brow and eyes. She liked it; she liked the gentle black in the depths of Fang Ziyue’s eyes, where stars and bright-colored shells flowed warmly. If possible, Ling Qiu really wanted to live inside her eyes, in that warm, ink-colored ocean.
A mermaid’s feelings were always so intense and straightforward, and their way of expression was graceful and blunt. Feeling the kiss land on her brow, Fang Ziyue only felt her cheeks heating up and her ears burning. The woman, nearly fleeing in panic, wailed in her heart—she really couldn’t handle such a “straight ball” (direct approach)!
Leading the cute little mermaid, she kicked open her own unlucky door. The middle-aged man outside was caught off guard and hit directly by the door. Clutching his nose and screaming in agony, the man pointed at Fang Ziyue with a distorted face, his voice shaky from pain: “You… you dare hit me!”
Fang Ziyue sized up this shifty-looking middle-aged man. Seeing the hatred in his eyes, she searched the original body’s memories and remembered. This man used to be a business partner of the original body; one manufactured fake nutrient solutions, and the other was responsible for selling them. Until one day their affairs were exposed, and both were thrown onto the desolate planet. Originally they were “jackals of the same lair,” but this man insisted it was the original body’s uselessness that caused him to be thrown into this godforsaken place. The original body was bold enough to fake nutrients but was very clumsy with words. Thus, this man had washed his own reputation on the desolate planet by stepping on her and shifting all the blame onto her.
“Hitting you is light.” Fang Ziyue narrowed her eyes, and a chilling spiritual power surged out. If the original body couldn’t even teach a jumping rat a lesson, then she didn’t mind trampling him to death.
Spiritual power as sharp as a blade pierced the barrier of the man’s spiritual sea, churning his already unstable spiritual energy.
“AAAAAAHHH!!—”
The man’s eyes bulged, bloodshot veins filling his eyeballs; he bled from all seven orifices, looking hideous and terrifying. But the most terrifying thing was his spiritual power, which was about to go into a complete riot. When a person’s spiritual power completely runs amok, they become a monster that attacks indiscriminately; everyone present would be in mortal danger. Except, of course, for the woman standing aside watching the play with a smile.
“Fang Ziyue, what are you doing! Stop now! Or we will all die!” Liang Xiuyue, hiding behind mercenaries, shouted sternly. He never expected that Fang Ziyue would not only be unfazed by his “show of strength” but would even turn around and try to pull everyone down to death with her?!
“What am I doing?” The woman, whose smile didn’t reach her eyes, repeated his words. Her spiritual power continued to churn the man’s spiritual sea; perhaps in one minute, the man would be beyond saving and become a monster. Perhaps only half a minute.
But the perpetrator wasn’t flustered at all, even saying unhurriedly: “I am a person with no attachments and nothing to my name; I just want to find a quiet place to live out this life. I have no grand ambitions, nor do I want to get involved in the messy affairs of you big families.”
Bright red blood flowed from the man’s eyes, and his wails gradually turned into the hisses and roars of a monster.
Fang Ziyue looked away in disgust and continued: “So, if anyone wants to disturb my peace, I will drag everyone to death together.”
The color of the man’s eyes completely turned blood-red, even becoming covered with a dark membrane. Everyone on the desolate planet knew that if this continued, in less than half a minute, this person would completely turn into a monster.
But they couldn’t run! The crowd, knowing they would die if they stayed, was firmly suppressed in place by Fang Ziyue’s spiritual power. They could only widen their eyes, staring fixedly at the man about to become a monster, making fearful “he-he” sounds in their throats, yet powerless to save themselves.
Everyone, including Liang Xiuyue, was regretting—why did they provoke a lunatic! Even Ling Qiu, hiding behind Fang Ziyue, looked beautiful in Liang Xiuyue’s eyes right now; at least she wouldn’t, like this Fang Ziyue, recklessly try to drag everyone to death!
“Stop! I’ll agree to whatever you want!” Liang Xiuyue screamed in terror. He hadn’t been to the Imperial Star yet, hadn’t married Qiaorou; he couldn’t die yet!
Seeing Liang Xiuyue and the crowd soften, and seeing the man who had reached the breaking point, Fang Ziyue simply withdrew the spiritual power placed on the others and turned to violently suppress the man’s rioting spiritual power.
As the saying goes, “blocking is not as good as channeling”; such a suppression would either completely destroy the man’s spiritual sea, leaving him with few days left, or it would drastically reduce his spiritual power level, turning him into a cripple without spiritual energy. Fang Ziyue wanted the second outcome.
“Heh—” A large amount of fresh blood gushed from the man’s mouth, the flow terrifying enough to make one wonder if he would die from blood loss. But in the end, he returned to a normal appearance, though those eyes were completely ruined.
Fang Ziyue had seen this man in the system’s scan. To please Gu Qiaorou, he had inflicted many atrocities on Ling Qiu. The nail on Ling Qiu’s left pinky finger was slightly crooked because this man had forcibly pulled out her nail and given it to Gu Qiaorou to claim credit and make her happy. Ling Qiu was a mermaid; her memories warned her not to expose her identity, so she had endured and not killed him. Later, when Ling Qiu’s spiritual power was exhausted, she had no energy to deal with this person. And the little mermaid herself was protective but didn’t hold grudges—if this man tried to pull out Fang Ziyue’s nails in the future, it would be hard to say if he could survive.
Now Fang Ziyue had collected this debt on Ling Qiu’s behalf. He pulled out one of Ling Qiu’s nails; she wanted both of his eyes. The extra would count as interest.
Only after Fang Ziyue completely withdrew her spiritual power—letting those dangerous, invisible spiritual tentacles surround them to protect her little mermaid—did the crowd dare to breathe.
