- Chapter 15 - The Crematorium (Part III)
The Next Day.
Qiu Yuyi was avoiding him. Xia Di’an noticed.
After yet another attempt at conversation was brushed off with a few non-committal mumbles, Xia Di’an felt his pulse throb in his temples. He stepped forward quickly, grabbed Qiu Yuyi’s arm as the boy tried to flee toward the kitchen, and pulled him into the first-floor restroom.
“What are you doing?” Qiu Yuyi’s face went pale with nerves. He tried to shake off Xia Di’an’s grip. “Are you crazy? There are so many people around—how would we explain this if they saw us?”
Xia Di’an pursed his lips, his voice low and firm. “You’re avoiding me.”
Qiu Yuyi guiltily averted his gaze and said nothing.
“Last night was my fault.” Xia Di’an’s eyes darkened, but he took a deep breath and softened his tone. “Next time, I’ll be sure to ask for your consent first.”
Next time? Qiu Yuyi’s eyes snapped toward him in a glare.
“Alright, alright, I was wrong. Don’t be angry,” Xia Di’an coaxed gently.
Qiu Yuyi felt as though things were spiraling in a strange direction, but he didn’t have time to overthink it. He hesitated before muttering awkwardly, “There won’t be a next time.”
Xia Di’an pinched his cheek but didn’t say a word.
Thinking Xia Di’an had conceded, Qiu Yuyi let out a breath of relief and forced a light tone. “I’ve already forgotten about last night. Let’s get out there and work.”
He opened the door and stepped out first. Xia Di’an followed with his hands in his pockets. The moment they exited, they found Cao Ziping staring at them, completely dumbstruck.
“Holy, what is this? Do you guys even have to use the bathroom together now?” Cao Ziping looked utterly bewildered. Seeing Qiu Yuyi’s face instantly flush a deep crimson, Cao Ziping’s expression became even more complicated, his mind clearly racing with inappropriate thoughts.
“Xiao Yi’s zipper broke. I was just helping him fix it,” Xia Di’an explained smoothly, without a hint of panic.
“Oh, oh, right.” Cao Ziping still hadn’t fully processed it.
“We’ll get back to work then,” Xia Di’an said with a small smile, grabbing Qiu Yuyi’s wrist.
Still panicking over being caught by Cao Ziping, Qiu Yuyi submissively allowed himself to be led away.
Left standing there, Cao Ziping finally found his voice. Wait, if his zipper broke, couldn’t he just go to the third floor and change his pants? Do they really need two people in a stall to fix a zipper?
By the time he realized the flaw in the story, the two were long gone.
9:00 PM.
After closing for the night, the seven of them gathered for a meeting.
“Our revenue has reached 20,000 yuan,” Xia Di’an announced.
“That much?” Shen Jiashi was surprised. “Then we’ll finish the task in just a few more days.”
“A few more overnight guests and we’re there,” Xia Di’an said, casually resting his arm on the back of the sofa behind Qiu Yuyi.
Cao Ziping’s eyes drifted toward them. From his angle, it looked as though Xia Di’an had Qiu Yuyi pulled into a half-embrace. Sensing the gaze, Xia Di’an turned and met Cao Ziping’s eyes with a knowing smirk.
Cao Ziping: I definitely didn’t imagine it.
Shen Nian sat nearby, his face stiff and eyes cold as he stared at the pair. Dark currents swirled in his gaze.
“Does that mean we get a break?” Lin Xuemeng laughed.
Just then, a staff member delivered a task card. Cao Ziping read it aloud: “Congratulations on reaching 20,000 yuan. You’ve earned your first reward: a two-day, one-night hot spring trip!”
8:00 AM, The Next Morning.
Qiu Yuyi let out a long yawn. Because of the “incident” from the night before, he hadn’t fallen asleep until the early hours of the morning.
“If you’re tired, sleep on my shoulder for a bit,” Xia Di’an whispered. “We have a long day ahead of us; you’ll need your energy.”
They were sitting in the back of the van, so Qiu Yuyi figured no one would notice. He nodded gratefully and rested his head on Xia Di’an’s shoulder, falling asleep almost instantly.
Shen Nian, sitting diagonally in front of them, kept glancing back. His eyes were like pools of stagnant water—dark and brooding. He saw Qiu Yuyi sleeping soundly, while Xia Di’an rested a hand protectively near the boy’s head to keep him steady.
A suspicion began to take root in Shen Nian’s heart. Suddenly, Xia Di’an’s cold gaze met his. Shen Nian’s heart skipped a beat, but before he could speak, Xia Di’an offered him a slow, chillingly thin smile.
The hot spring resort was a staple of Z City. Even in summer, it drew crowds. Upon arrival, the crew started the live stream.
[Live Chat]
Film Emperor’s Wife: OMG, is that my husband Shen Nian?
Summer Fan: My husband is so handsome! Where are they?
July Sunshine: Shen Nian and Xia Di’an in the same frame? The “Sheng-Xia” CP (Couple) lives!
Autumn Milk Tea: My son looks so pale and soft! Mama loves you!
The resort offered both public pools and private villa suites. The crew booked four private suites.
“I’m still rooming with Xiao Yi,” Xia Di’an said with a smile.
Qiu Yuyi didn’t object. Xia Di’an had excellent living habits, and aside from that incident, they got along perfectly.
“You two are like Siamese twins,” Cao Ziping teased. “Even on vacation, you have to be stuck together.” Xia Di’an just smiled and said nothing.
The rooms were decorated in different styles. Qiu Yuyi and Xia Di’an drew the European-style suite. They agreed to host everyone for a BBQ in their room later that evening.
While setting up the room, Xia Di’an and Qiu Yuyi chatted naturally, unaware of the storm they were causing in the live stream.
[Live Chat]
Summer Fan: What’s going on? It feels like my husband is really catering to him.
CP Shipper: AHHHH! “Si-Ji” CP (Four Seasons CP) is real! Look at them!
Potato Flute: Xia Xia actually asked to share a room with this guy.
After the stream ended and they finished shopping for BBQ supplies, the two decided to head back for a soak. Due to the heat of the water, Qiu Yuyi emerged from the pool with flushed pink cheeks. Xia Di’an stepped out to the nearby shop to grab some drinks.
Shortly after he left, there was a knock at the door. Thinking it was Xia Di’an, Qiu Yuyi threw on his bathrobe and opened the villa door.
It was Shen Nian.
Without waiting for an invitation, Shen Nian stepped inside and shut the door behind him.
“What are you doing here?” Qiu Yuyi asked, pulling his robe tighter and frowning.
Shen Nian’s dark gaze was fixed on Qiu Yuyi’s neck, which was pale and flushed from the hot spring. He remained silent for a long moment. Just as Qiu Yuyi grew impatient and was about to kick him out, Shen Nian spoke.
“You and Xiao An, what exactly is your relationship?”
Qiu Yuyi’s heart gave a guilty thud as he remembered the previous night. He steadied himself to answer, but the door opened again.
“What my relationship with Xiao Yi is, is none of your business.”
Both men turned toward the door. Xia Di’an stood there, holding a shopping bag, looking at them with a cold, indifferent expression.
