After Dumping the Female Lead, It's My Turn to Cry - Chapter 30.1
After saying this, Ruan Yubai didn’t look at Qing Ling’s expression again. Humming a tune, she walked past to dry her hair.
For a Beta who hadn’t even considered that possibility, this was just a harmless little joke.
Besides, what could the female lead possibly want from her? Her short stature? Her lying height?
Naturally, if Qing Ling were actually jealous of that, it could barely count as a small victory.
After freshening up, drowsiness washed over her. Ruan Yubai let out a small yawn and casually asked, “Are you going home today?”
The full moon outside had already climbed the treetops. With a gust of wind, the window frames rattled softly.
Qing Ling still stood in place, faint light spilling from the top of her head, outlining a cool-toned, pale halo. Her hanging hair just happened to obscure her expression.
Her tone was strangely hoarse, but what surprised Ruan Yubai more was the content.
“Stay here and rest,” Qing Ling said as she picked up a coat from the back of a chair and draped it over herself. “I have some matters to attend to. Feel free to use anything here.”
What business could she have at this late hour?
Watching Qing Ling’s back disappear through the doorway, Ruan Yubai was genuinely puzzled, blinking in confusion.
Could it be that the female lead was so averse to sharing a room with her at night? Then why not just tell her to go home?
Surely she couldn’t have already fallen for the male lead this early and was going out for a late-night date.
But Ruan Yubai had one good quality – she didn’t overthink things she couldn’t figure out. Since her clothes weren’t dry yet anyway, she simply collapsed onto the bed. Damn it, this bed is so hard!
Trash Laureus, why design dorm beds like wooden boards? Is it supposed to be good for spinal growth? But the female lead is already tall enough, she doesn’t need to grow any taller.
Still, the smell was quite pleasant. Like a kitten arriving at a new home, Ruan Yubai rolled back and forth. Without the female lead around, she could naturally slack off and avoid dealing with that perverted homework – tomorrow’s problems could wait until tomorrow. Soon, she gradually drifted into dreams amid the familiar, light scent of the bedding. Whether the female lead was going to find Nan Zhu Di or his brother was none of her concern anymore.
As Ruan Yubai sank into sweet dreams, the sky had turned ink-black, like a curtain dyed in darkness.
Standing under a streetlight, the Alpha irritably waved away a moth by his hand. The gray wings were crushed directly in his palm, turning to dust that scattered to the ground.
Nan Zhu Ge muttered something indistinct, his brows furrowed into a deep crease. Just as he was about to kick away a decorative pebble by his foot, he paused abruptly upon hearing footsteps.
The hazy scent of freesia drifted through the air, subtle and elegant. The faint light illuminated the beautiful face of the approaching figure – dark eyebrows and eyes that appeared noble and gentle when silent, with a graceful demeanor evident in her every movement.
Despite being an exceptionally rare beauty, Nan Zhu Ge looked as if he’d seen a demon, his pupils contracting nervously as his face instantly turned deathly pale.
“P-President,” he greeted cautiously.
Qing Ling’s voice was faint. “Where is it?”
Her fingers were pale and slender, appearing flawlessly delicate under the cover of night. Unless one looked closely, it was impossible to detect the faint calluses on her fingertips, let alone imagine how such an ethereal beauty could wield a sword with such precision, splattering crimson blood all over herself.
Nan Zhuge hurriedly fished out a tiny chip from his pocket, not daring to meet her gaze as he mumbled and placed it in her palm: “President, could I ask you not to disclose these past matters of mine to the archbishop in the parliament?”
Qing Ling, who had been about to turn and leave, suddenly halted her steps. A faint smile graced her lips, making her appear even more amiable, and her voice softened: “Of course, as long as you behave. I’ve always liked obedient children.”
Even though this young lady was not much older than him, Nan Zhuge couldn’t help but feel a strange illusion, as if he had become a dismembered puppet, forced to obey commands.
How could that be?
Nan Zhuge shook his head vigorously, trying to dispel the absurd thought. In truth, he merely had a weakness that Qing Ling held in her grasp. Once this matter was resolved, the two of them would naturally have no further ties. Moreover, the Qing family had already fallen into decline. Once he reconnected with his ancestral family.
Eliminating Qing Ling might not be such a difficult task.
At this thought, Nan Zhuge’s brow twitched slightly. He couldn’t believe that upon first meeting Qing Ling, he had entertained the frivolous idea of having a romantic encounter with her. She was nothing but a devil who devoured people without leaving a trace.
Aside from his chuunibyou younger brother, probably no one would still harbor desires to pursue her after learning her true nature.
Come to think of it, he much preferred soft, adorable girls like Ruan Yubai. If someone hadn’t later exposed her, he would never have been certain that she was the one who knocked him out with a fire extinguisher that day.
They were all troublemakers who needed to be taught a lesson.
With these thoughts in mind, Nan Zhuge’s smile grew even more ingratiating: “Of course, as you know, my relationship with my younger brother isn’t great. I’ve always wanted him to learn a lesson the hard way.”
He rubbed his hands together tentatively: “I originally thought that you and that opportunistic relative of yours didn’t get along well, so you wouldn’t care about such trivial matters.”
Seemingly oblivious to the change in his expression, Qing Ling casually waved her hand, her fingers deftly storing the chip away before she vanished into the vast night, just as she had arrived.
The next morning.
“Old Bai, I’ve got good news for you, all those perverted Alphas who were peeping in the restroom have been caught. Your sacrifice wasn’t in vain.” As soon as Ruan Yubai, still drowsy-eyed, stepped into the classroom, her friend slung an arm over her shoulder. She truly couldn’t understand how Bi Biba could always be so full of energy.
Since the matter had blown up, it was hard to keep it under wraps any longer. Ruan Yubai nodded in agreement.
At this, Bi Biba sighed regretfully: “But it seems like two or three of them still got away, and Nan Zhuge doesn’t seem to have faced any serious consequences either. They say someone pressured the school, and the student council couldn’t do much about it, so they had to let him off. Did you see him just now? That big-faced freak Nan Zhuge walked into the school like nothing happened. Anyone who didn’t know better would think he was a eunuch from the Eastern Depot who’d been castrated.”
That was really unnecessary, insulting eunuchs like that.
Actually, these events were expected. Since Bibiba hadn’t read The Proud Girlfriend of the Galaxy’s Strongest Alpha, she probably didn’t know that both Nan Zhuge and Nan Zhuti had enrolled in the academy under concealed identities. Although half of the novel had been torn off, preventing her from reading the part where their true identities were revealed, it was clear they were no ordinary heirs from common families they were undoubtedly significant figures.
Besides, the male lead’s entourage was the core of the story’s development. How could they possibly be completely defeated by such a minor setback?
It was already quite an achievement that most of them faced the consequences they deserved.
“By the way, did you know?”
Suddenly remembering something, Bibiba pulled out her terminal to show the poor, disconnected child. “Today is the public voting day for the citizens of Laoreisi. I wonder what the results will be. I really hope the Transgender Omega Special Protection Act passes it would at least serve as a warning to those lawless criminals.”
The legislative process in Laoreisi wasn’t overly complicated. Generally, the Policy Bureau would draft a bill after internal discussions and reviews, then submit it to the Legislative Council, where the Upper House members would decide whether to pass it. This was quite different from the legal procedures in many other planetary systems of the Oubei Cluster. In short, on Laoreisi, the Upper House members held immense power, with figures like the Grand Bishop even possessing veto authority.
Only after the Upper House approved the bill would it be handed over to the Lower House for a democratic vote. The bill would require a voter turnout of at least 88% before being submitted to the executive officer for signing. Finally, after the head of state affixed their seal, it would officially become law.
Most students at Laoreisi Academy were minors and thus ineligible to vote in the Lower House elections. However, due to the academy’s unique status, it was designated as a “special electoral unit,” equivalent to ten ordinary voters. Given the relatively small number of Lower House members, this special unit could play a decisive role in closely contested votes.
Of course, such situations were rare, as most votes tended to be one-sided.
Upon hearing this, Ruan Yuebai expressed surprise, “This bill actually passed the Upper House?”
That was truly unbelievable.
Since the Upper House was composed of nobles and members of influential families, the very people who might target transgender Omegas, it was absurd that they would approve such a bill. The absurdity was comparable to a boar strapping on layers of bras.
“I found it strange too,” Bibiba lowered her voice. “From what I’ve heard, the Grand Bishop pushed it through against all opposition, leveraging his long-standing connections and authority. Not only that, but several key members of the Upper House recused themselves from the vote because their family members were involved in the recent transgender Omega incident. That’s how it managed to pass.”
“Of course, it’s also possible that the recent incident was too egregious, striking a nerve with those old-timers’ fragile hearts. Looking on the bright side, maybe old age has made them shed a few crocodile tears.”
Hearing this, Ruan Yubai responded with a mix of amusement and exasperation, “You might as well claim the victim was actually from an aristocratic family that would be more believable.”
The recent forced gender transition incident had been utterly appalling. For a time, almost everyone was talking about it. Even with the government’s gag order, not just ordinary students but even teachers occasionally referenced it in class.
