“That fast?”
Ming Tang listened, her eyes widening in surprise.
Qi Deng suddenly leaned forward, getting close to Ming Tang, and sniffed again. “Why is there another scent on you?”
Jian Jiahe curled her lips, pushing Qi Deng away with a look of utter disgust.
“Can you stop acting like a pervert? I’m going to report you for harassing an Alpha.”
“You’re eating lemon candy!” Qi Deng swayed slightly from the push, but wrinkled her nose and said with absolute certainty, “Don’t eat it all by yourself, share some with me.”
Seeing Qi Deng’s hand stretched out in front of her, Ming Tang reached out and slapped it away with a playfully ferocious look. “In your dreams.”
“She was about to faint just now!” Jian Jiahe pulled the corners of her mouth down hard, looking disdainful. “What exactly are you trying to do?”
Qi Deng pointed at the handful of small snacks in Ming Tang’s hands and said as if it were a matter of course, “She was just full of energy and shouting a moment ago, so she must have recovered by now. And look, with so much food, can you really let her keep it all to herself?”
Jian Jiahe’s gaze followed Qi Deng’s finger to Ming Tang’s arms. There was indeed a handful, but it could hardly be described as “so much.”
“Don’t even think about it.” Seeing Qi Deng’s approaching demon claws, Ming Tang quickly blocked and protected them with her other hand. “Chi Ling gave this to me.”
Hearing this, both Qi Deng and Jian Jiahe stared with even wider eyes.
“What? Chi Ling’s?”
“Then I want some too!”
Jian Jiahe, who had originally been opposed, joined the battlefield upon hearing this, while Qi Deng, whose attitude had been casual a moment ago, became urgent.
Seeing the two of them transform into zombies right before her eyes, Ming Tang decisively turned around holding Chi Ling’s thoughtful gift and ran, facing the wall in the corner to form a stable and secure triangle.
Allowing Qi Deng and Jian Jiahe to claw at her, Ming Tang remained as unmovable as a mountain.
“Are you guys bandits?” The person wailing changed from Jian Jiahe to Ming Tang.
“You have so much, what’s wrong with sharing a little with us?”
“Yeah, exactly!”
Ming Tang pressed herself even tighter against the wall, her voice sounding almost tragic. “But Chi Ling gave this to me alone! You can’t just rob me openly, can you?”
“You two look exactly like perverted stalker fans right now!” Ming Tang blocked left and right, dodging left and flashing right, only just managing to strictly fend off the hands they randomly threw out.
The four wildly clawing hands instantly retracted.
“That is slander!” Qi Deng protested.
“To protect Chi Ling’s gift, you really will say just about anything,” Jian Jiahe said, looking deeply pained.
Seeing that this strategy was actually so effective, Ming Tang simply decided to break all restraints. While hurriedly unwrapping a new candy and stuffing it into her mouth, she mumbled and shouted, “So what! Either way, I won’t let you guys snatch away the things she gave me!”
With a duck of her body, Ming Tang slipped through the gap where the two were cornering her. She scurried over to her locker like a streak of smoke and shoved the remaining two biscuits and two candies into the locker all at once.
“Alright then.” Qi Deng let out a long, mournful sigh. “Sealed away in your locker, we really can’t get to them now.”
“Sigh, you’re too cruel, Ming Tang.”
Ming Tang spun around, still not feeling completely at ease, and leaned her back firmly against the locker, blocking it entirely.
Qi Deng let out a “tsk.” “Guarding it so strictly, you really don’t treat us as sisters.”
Ming Tang’s gaze was wary. “Certain people know exactly why I’m guarding it so strictly.”
“Rest a bit, rest a bit.” Jian Jiahe plopped her butt down on the training room floor, leaning her back against the lockers as she nudged closer to Ming Tang, saying, “You two really don’t get tired.”
Looking at Jian Jiahe’s incredibly obvious intention, Ming Tang couldn’t help but laugh out loud out of sheer speechlessness, before saying sharply, “Talking is talking… put your hand back!”
Caught red-handed, Jian Jiahe didn’t show a trace of guilt. She merely curled her lips and retracted her hand with a look of dissatisfaction.
“I’m really tired.” Ming Tang slid down a bit. “Can we call a truce?”
“Fine, fine. Sigh, choosing romance over friends…” Shaking her head, Qi Deng also completely let go of her strength, leaning against the lockers to sit in a row with Ming Tang and Jian Jiahe.
Ming Tang let out a yawn as a delayed wave of exhaustion washed over her. Her voice sounded lazy as she said, “Stop, don’t spread rumors…”
With half of the words still caught in her throat, Ming Tang suddenly had an epiphany, secretly feeling that what Qi Deng said wasn’t completely without reason.
But it wasn’t entirely “choosing romance over friends” either, she had clearly become friends with Chi Ling first.
More and more people returned to the training room after completing their evaluations. With the three of them setting an example in front, the returning trainees all looked as if their bones had been removed, leaning, lying, scattered all over the floor in a chaotic mess.
“I’m so nervous.”
Looking at the gradually filling room, Ming Tang couldn’t suppress her anticipation, yet she inevitably felt anxious. Unconsciously, she reached her hand back, pulled out a piece of candy, unwrapped it, and popped it into her mouth. Ignoring the resentful glares of the other two, she crunched the small candy loudly.
Qi Deng: “Is this your way of flaunting the candy Chi Ling gave you?”
Listening to Qi Deng’s tone, Ming Tang couldn’t help but snort a laugh. “Can you stop focusing solely on this one point?”
“What, am I not even allowed to be envious and jealous?”
“Then you should put in some effort too.” Ming Tang straightened her legs and arms, extending into a long stretch.
“Effort to faint in front of Chi Ling?” Jian Jiahe asked.
Ming Tang, thoroughly exasperated, replied, “Effort to climb higher, so you can get closer to her.”
But not too close, Ming Tang silently added the second half of the sentence in her heart.
“Do you think everyone is like you?” Qi Deng let out a long sigh.
Hearing this, Ming Tang followed with a long sigh of her own. “Sigh, then they better not be like me. Being like me means having a truly bitter life.”
Qi Deng wanted to press for details, but Jian Jiahe tugged at the hem of her clothes, and she tactfully shut her mouth.
The two began to fill in the blanks about Ming Tang’s tragic background, her painful and ostracized trainee life. After looking at each other, they saw sympathy and solemnity in each other’s eyes, silently agreeing not to dig deep into Ming Tang’s painful past.
In reality, Ming Tang was furiously cursing the system in her mind.
If she hadn’t been bound to this bastardly thing, she wouldn’t have to live in fear every day, nor would she frequently leave behind dark history on camera.
Recording the show Moment of Destiny alone would take ninety days. Even calculating by a frequency of issuing a task once every three days, if she really managed to hang on in the show without being eliminated, she would have to perform at least twenty-eight more tasks!
The more Ming Tang thought about it, the angrier she got. She clenched her fist and slammed it hard against the wooden floor, making a dull thud.
【Host, I can hear everything.】
Ming Tang instantly lost her spark. She awkwardly rubbed her hand, succumbing to the despotic might of System 521.
Unsure where the memory or impression came from, Ming Tang felt that at a time like this, she should tilt her head up at a 45 degree angle. Just as she tilted her head back, intending to stare at the ceiling to calm down, she first met the deeply meaningful gazes of Qi Deng and Jian Jiahe.
Ming Tang: ?
Ming Tang furrowed her brows and squinted, looking with a puzzled expression at the two people whose faces were practically written with motherly love and heartache.
“What’s with your expressions?”
Qi Deng didn’t speak, but silently patted Ming Tang on the shoulder.
Jian Jiahe merely looked at her with a firm, steady gaze.
Stared at by the unfamiliar looks of the two, Ming Tang found it baffling, feeling a layer of goosebumps rise on her arms.
“Don’t worry, Ming Tang.”
“We will always support you.”
Ming Tang: What on earth is going on?
“If you two are sick, go to the…”
A sharp, tragic wail suddenly erupted from the doorway, cutting off Ming Tang’s protest.
“Help! Why is the mentor coming towards our room?!”
