After Disguising As A Woman To Marry The Foolish Prince, I Became Pregnant - Chapter 21
The flower-viewing banquet was scheduled for just before the Mid-Autumn Festival. On that day, Zhu Man woke up very early—not because he was nervous, but because He Tianyun had been dreaming about who-knows-what and had squeezed his waist so hard that he was physically jolted awake.
Seeing that the time was about right, he simply got up. By the time He Tianyun woke up, Zhu Man had already finished breakfast and was applying his makeup.
He Tianyun immediately ran over, looked at him through the mirror, and said, “I want some too.”
“Go wash up and eat first; come back when you’re done.” Zhu Man put down his brush, turned around to pinch his cheek, and said, “Go on. You’ll be seeing your Imperial Mother, Xiuxin, and Tianye in a little while.”
He Tianyun nodded and immediately ran off to wash up. A moment later, he came back clutching a bun, insisting that Zhu Man do his makeup.
“Finish eating first.” Zhu Man had already finished his makeup and was tidying up. Seeing him sitting nearby with a pout, Zhu Man laughed and gave him a little pinch. “Go on, eat your breakfast.”
He Tianyun’s eyes darted around and landed on the hand pinching him—the one stained with balsam flower rouge.
It was slender, white, and very beautiful.
He opened his mouth and took a little bite of it.
Zhu Man instantly pulled his hand back and said helplessly, “Watch your mouth!”
He Tianyun grinned and held out his own hand: “I want it too.”
Zhu Man shook his head: “No.”
“I want it!” He Tianyun frowned and lunged toward him, nearly knocking Zhu Man off his seat with his weight.
Zhu Man had no choice but to say, “Fine, fine, I’ll do it for you in a bit. You eat first.”
Only then did He Tianyun focus on eating.
Once he finished, he ran to the dressing table and sat down, excitedly shouting at Zhu Man, “Princess! Paint!”
Zhu Man had no choice but to perfunctorily paint his little finger for him.
He Tianyun looked happily at the color on his hand, then held out the other one and said, “More!”
Zhu Man tried to distract him, asking, “Don’t want any on your lips?”
He Tianyun hurried to pucker his lips at him.
Amused, Zhu Man made a fake swiping motion over the lip rouge with his finger, pretending he had picked some up, and then tapped it onto He Tianyun’s lips, saying, “There, all done.”
He Tianyun looked in the mirror, frowning. “There’s nothing.”
“There is, it’s very pretty. Our Tianyun is the prettiest,” Zhu Man laughed, pinching his cheek. “You’ll be even prettier once you change your clothes. Don’t you want to wear the things Xiuxin gave you?”
“Yes!” He Tianyun immediately stood up, allowed the maids to serve him as he changed, and then stood obediently in place for Zhu Man to hang his jade pendant.
Seeing his sister’s gift hanging there made He Tianyun even happier. He completely forgot about wanting to paint his face, and once his hair was combed, he went out hand-in-hand with Zhu Man.
To Zhu Man’s surprise, He Tianye had actually come to pick them up.
“It’s on the way,” He Tianye smiled. “It’s a good chance to chat with my Sister-in-law along the road.”
Zhu Man naturally didn’t believe the “on the way” part, but he could more or less guess the kindness behind He Tianye’s gesture, so he pulled He Tianyun into his carriage.
Once inside, He Tianyun began showing off his newly dyed fingernails to He Tianye.
He Tianye found it hilarious and even said he would go get his dyed next time. He Tianyun immediately said he should let the Princess do it, and they chatted boisterously all the way there.
The banquet was held at an estate in the suburbs of the capital. When they arrived, many horse-drawn carriages were already parked outside.
He Tianye happened to run into some acquaintances and stopped to talk, so Zhu Man pulled He Tianyun down from the carriage, intending to lead him inside first.
However, He Tianyun suddenly poked his head out curiously to look at the carriage in front of them.
But the window was covered, so he couldn’t see clearly. As he passed by, he patted it and said, “Open up!”
Zhu Man hurriedly tried to pull him away.
But since he had already patted it, the person inside did indeed open the window to look out. It was a young lady from some noble house, quite beautiful. Seeing them, she wasn’t angry, but instead asked in a soft, refined voice if something was the matter.
Zhu Man waved his hands hurriedly, saying helplessly, “He has the temperament of a child, I’m so sorry.”
The girl looked at He Tianyun upon hearing this. She seemed to think for a moment and then lowered her head to give a soft greeting to the two: “Greetings, Prince, Princess.”
Zhu Man: “…”
True enough, with He Tianyun’s simple-minded appearance, it really was hard not to recognize him.
He waved his hand, intending to lead He Tianyun away, but He Tianyun refused to move. He pointed at the sachet hanging on the girl’s carriage and said, “I want that!”
Zhu Man: “…”
He pulled the man further away from the girl’s carriage, but He Tianyun was unwilling. His eyes remained fixed on the sachet, looking as if he didn’t plan on leaving until he got it.
Zhu Man had no choice but to walk over and ask the girl if she could sell him one.
The girl was also stunned. It took a while before she nodded and had her maid untie the sachet to give to Zhu Man. She didn’t take any money and hurriedly got out of the carriage and walked away.
Helplessly, Zhu Man gave the sachet to He Tianyun and said, “You can’t just point at girls and talk nonsense like that in the future.”
He Tianyun was still immersed in the joy of his new toy and wasn’t listening at all.
Zhu Man simply gave up.
At this time, He Tianye came over. Hearing what Zhu Man said, he was also a bit helpless and led them into the estate.
The estate belonged to He Xiuxin. She would usually gather here with friends or host elegant little banquets like this, so it was beautifully maintained.
The result of that beauty was that He Tianyun became extremely excited. As soon as he entered, he was like a butterfly that couldn’t be caught, looking everywhere, touching this and playing with that. He even went so far as to pluck a handful of flowers that people were currently admiring. Neither Zhu Man nor He Tianye could hold him back.
Looking at the flowers being handed to him, Zhu Man suddenly felt skeptical about whether He Tianye would actually be able to find a wife at this banquet.
He pulled He Tianyun aside and lectured him: “We are here today to find a Princess for Tianye, so you have to be good.”
He Tianyun pointed at him: “Princess.”
Zhu Man said helplessly: “I am your Princess. Tianye will have one too, so you can’t cause trouble.”
“I’m not!” He Tianyun said unhappily. “I’m good!”
Zhu Man: “…”
He said helplessly: “Then since you’re so good, can you stay with me and not run around?”
He Tianyun nodded. He threw the flowers on the ground and was about to wipe his hands on his clothes.
Zhu Man hurriedly stopped him, took out a handkerchief to wipe his hands, and then took hold of him to sit down nearby.
They made quite a stir, and many people noticed them. However, since this was He Xiuxin’s territory, no one was foolish enough to speak ill of her brother here; at most, they made a few harmless, teasing remarks about Zhu Man, the Princess.
Zhu Man didn’t care about the gossip, so he wasn’t unhappy staying there.
Everyone attending today was an eligible unmarried gentleman or lady of the capital. They composed poetry and discussed romance—it was indeed a very fine banquet. But as someone already married, Zhu Man had no interest in such scenes, especially with a “giant tag-along” by his side. He just sat there aimlessly watching the people coming and going—mainly looking at the girls, since he had come to help look for a good match.
After watching for a while, his vision suddenly went dark as a pair of warm hands covered his eyes. Without even guessing, he knew who it was. He said helplessly, “Prince, stop playing.”
He Tianyun said with a chuckle, “Guess!”
Zhu Man had no choice but to repeat: “It’s the Prince.”
“Wrong!” He Tianyun said.
Zhu Man changed his answer: “It’s He Tianyun.”
“Wrong!” As he spoke, He Tianyun let go, circled around, and crouched down in front of Zhu Man. “It’s me!”
After saying that, he started grinning foolishly. Zhu Man didn’t know whether to laugh or cry; he reached out to tap his nose and asked, “Then who are you?”
He Tianyun thought about it and said, “I am… I am the Princess’s wife.”
Zhu Man laughed again and asked him, “Are you bored?”
He Tianyun nodded and said, “Go play.”
Zhu Man pulled him up, intending to walk around, when he suddenly heard someone say: “The Zhao Princess’s figure is quite nice.”
Zhu Man’s footsteps paused. He followed the sound and saw two men. When they saw him turn around, they even raised an eyebrow at him.
Zhu Man frowned. “What did you just say?”
Upon hearing this, the man put on a fake look of innocence: “We didn’t say anything. The Princess must have misheard.”
Zhu Man’s lip twitched. He was just about to go up and “reason” with them properly when He Tianyun, standing beside him, suddenly lunged forward. He clawed fiercely at one of the men’s faces, instantly leaving three bloody gashes. He said angrily, “You are not allowed to bully the Princess!”
Both men were stunned.
Zhu Man was also stunned.
No one expected He Tianyun to suddenly charge.
It took a moment for the man who had been scratched to snap out of his shock. He roared at He Tianyun, “What are you doing?!”
This time, it was He Tianyun’s turn to be stunned, but he didn’t stay stunned for long. After being yelled at, he immediately turned around and ran back to Zhu Man, throwing himself into his arms and saying aggrievedly, “Princess, he’s bad!”
Zhu Man was nearly moved to laughter by him. He whispered to him, “The villain sues first?”
He Tianyun snuggled into his arms again without speaking, but the corners of his mouth turned up high.
Zhu Man patted his back and said, “Don’t be afraid. I’ll get even for you.”
Having said that, he dragged the secretly delighted He Tianyun off to settle the score.
