After Cutting Off Love And Emotions, I Was Pestered By The Demon Sect’s Enchantress - Chapter 33
Reunion (Part IV)
The sky was dim and sunken, with flashes of lightning occasionally flickering through the thick, accumulating layers of black clouds.
Zhu Shengxi glanced at the weather and closed the window. Turning to the person on the bed, she said, “Rest well here.”
After a long while, she heard no response.
Frowning slightly, she walked to the bedside and called out softly:
“Ning Xu?”
Ning Xu remained silent, her eyes still shielded by her hand. Seeing this, Zhu Shengxi grasped her wrist and moved the hand away from her eyes.
Those eyes had, at some unknown point, turned a blood-thirsty red once again. Before she could ask, Ning Xu grabbed her sleeve, a trace of plea in her voice:
“Are you leaving? I’m afraid.”
Zhu Shengxi couldn’t tell the truth of those words, yet she didn’t immediately shake off the hand.
“Your eyes?”
Ning Xu turned her head away unnaturally, saying only: “It’s nothing, it will be better in a moment.”
Zhu Shengxi gazed at her intently; there was a flicker of trepidation on Ning Xu’s face that didn’t seem feigned.
That time, while flying their swords through the thunderclouds, her face had worn this exact expression.
Zhu Shengxi remained silent, the look in her eyes unreadable. Ning Xu, unable to gauge her thoughts, simply gripped her sleeve tightly.
Then, she saw the woman before her sit down on the wooden chair by the bed. Her expression remained cold, but she didn’t mention leaving again.
She actually yielded…
Ning Xu stared at her without blinking, a bright smile hanging between her brows.
Zhu Shengxi did not look at her, suddenly asking: “From whom did you learn your sword-flying techniques? Tell the truth.”
The sudden question carried a hint of interrogation.
Ning Xu’s smile faded. After a moment of silence, she spoke slowly: “You’ve heard of that incident in Shizhou City, haven’t you? I plotted for a long time before I found a suitable opportunity to eliminate the Xu family.”
Hearing this, Zhu Shengxi thought back to the storyteller’s words; Ning Xu indeed had a private vendetta against the Xu family.
Ning Xu pointed to her blood-colored eyes and smiled: “Since I can remember, I was in the Xu family. I don’t know what they considered me to be. They taught me orthodox techniques, hoping I would join an immortal sect, but once they discovered the blood pupils, they called me a freak and tried to drive me out.”
She let out a low laugh: “If it had ended there, it would have been fine. But they insisted on sending people to take my life, to wipe me out entirely. Though, the Xu family is a demon-slaying clan after all; my existence would indeed bring shame upon them.”
Hearing this, Zhu Shengxi had several suspicions. In the next moment, she felt her sleeve being tugged gently again.
Ning Xu looked at her earnestly and said softly: “These words, I only say to you. Before, everything around me was malice. It was you who made me feel, for the first time…”
“Ning Xu,” Zhu Shengxi interrupted her sternly, voicing her thoughts, “If you are of the demon race, the Xu family’s actions were not improper. To eliminate demons and uphold the righteous path is what we are meant to do.”
These words were spoken without a hint of hesitation, delivered with righteous conviction—the very rhetoric Ning Xu used to loathe most.
She stared intensely at Zhu Shengxi and asked: “Do you truly think that way?”
“It’s not just me; everyone in the righteous sects thinks similarly. So, are you of the demon race?”
The tone of questioning made Ning Xu feel extremely uncomfortable.
She had poured out her past with genuine emotion, yet this person only cared about whether she was a demon.
If she told her the truth of her identity, would the woman immediately pull out a Demon-Binding Rope?
Ning Xu smiled with an unidentifiable meaning. Driven by a sudden impulse, she pulled the wrist of the person before her and bit down on it, as if venting her frustration.
Shocked by the unexpected move, a flash of bewilderment appeared in Zhu Shengxi’s eyes. She looked down to see her wrist aching faintly, a clear set of teeth marks left behind.
Zhu Shengxi’s gaze darkened as she directly pinned Ning Xu’s hands.
Ning Xu struggled but couldn’t break free. “What are you doing?”
“I should be the one asking you that. Why did you bite me?”
Ning Xu had already forgotten her original purpose, speaking recklessly: “What if I bite you? I’ve bitten others before. Oh, I forgot, Master Zhu is of noble status; you’ve probably never been treated like this, mmm—”
The rest of her words were cut off. Ning Xu looked in astonishment at the person who had suddenly leaned in; the warmth on her lips left her stunned.
Zhu Shengxi pinned her hands, using her other hand to tilt her chin up. Ning Xu was forced to look up obediently, enduring the kiss from the person before her.
“Open your mouth,” Zhu Shengxi’s voice was entirely different from usual, carrying an underlying sense of pressure.
Ning Xu didn’t notice the abnormality. She quite obediently parted her lips. The moment their tongues touched, her heart drummed like a stampede; all her senses were seized by the other woman.
“She’s bitten others. In these five years, perhaps she has shared such intimacy with others too.” That raspy voice echoed inopportunely. Zhu Shengxi had no mind to suppress it, staring intently at the person beneath her.
A flush stained Ning Xu’s fair face. Those clear eyes were now filled entirely with her.
“Do you want her to stay by your side forever? Then leave the righteous path. Only without the shackles of status can you be with her.” The voice became ethereal, carrying a hint of temptation.
Leave the righteous path? No, that’s not right…
Zhu Shengxi frowned, her consciousness gradually clearing. Realizing what she had done, she immediately stood up, putting distance between them.
The soft lips vanished abruptly. Ning Xu looked at her in confusion, only to find her expression indifferent, without a trace of passion.
It was as if the kiss meant absolutely nothing to her.
A strange panic rose in her heart. Ning Xu sensed something was wrong and was about to ask, only to see the woman turn and walk out without a word.
The streets were empty in the deep of night. Zhu Shengxi walked aimlessly, letting the cold rain drench her hair.
She had actually been controlled by her inner demon just now, even birthing the base desire to keep that person imprisoned by her side.
Zhu Shengxi looked inward at her spiritual consciousness again, finding that the black mist had grown even denser.
Leave the righteous path and be with Ning Xu?
It was utter nonsense. She had cultivated in the Guiyun Sect for years; any sister or disciple in the sect was better than that cunning member of the demon cult. How could she possibly turn against her fellow disciples for the sake of Ning Xu?
As expected of an inner demon—every word was an attempt to lure her into distraction.
The icy rain cleared her mind a bit. Zhu Shengxi discarded the inappropriate thoughts and turned to head back to the inn.
At that moment, a low murmur came from a nearby alleyway: “Tsk, what are you crying for?”
“There, see that inn? Your ‘good senior sister’ is inside.”
The tone was somewhat familiar. Zhu Shengxi silently approached the alley and stole a glance inside.
A woman dressed in light green had a face full of stubbornness, her eyes slightly red. Standing next to her was a young girl holding an oil-paper umbrella, a playful smile hooked on her lips as she gazed nonchalantly toward the inn.
Ling Zhuo? Combined with the words she just spoke, could the green-clad woman beside her be Ye Liuxi?
Zhu Shengxi was filled with doubt. When she looked again, she happened to meet Ling Zhuo’s gaze.
Ling Zhuo raised an eyebrow slightly and tossed the umbrella aside carelessly. “Long time no see, Immortal Zhu.” The green-clad woman beside her grew anxious upon seeing Zhu Shengxi, appearing as if she wanted to say something.
“You placed a Silence Curse on her?”
Ling Zhuo: “You still love meddling in others’ business as much as ever. Oh, and where is that Miss A-Xu who was with you? She destroyed my hard work; this debt cannot go unpaid.”
Zhu Shengxi said coldly: “Let her go.”
“Tell Li Yishuang to come see me.” Leaving those words, Ling Zhuo pressed her hand against the back of the green-clad woman’s neck.
Zhu Shengxi saw the killing intent surface in her eyes. Wasting no more breath, the Chenque Sword unsheathed with a ring.
Ling Zhuo didn’t care, her expression remaining nonchalant. In the next instant, her face shifted. She moved sideways quickly as a thin layer of frost covered the spot where she had just been standing.
Ling Zhuo stared fixedly at a certain spot, her eyes seemingly filled with a thousand words.
Zhu Shengxi followed her gaze back. A few paces away, Li Yishuang was walking slowly toward them.
At this moment, the composure on Li Yishuang’s face was gone, replaced by an extremely complex expression.
She looked at Ling Zhuo for a long while before shifting her gaze to Ye Liuxi, saying softly: “Ling Zhuo, she is my junior sister. Let her go.”
Her tone was not that of one facing an enemy; the atmosphere between the two was indescribably strange.
Ling Zhuo stared at her intensely, her voice trembling as she asked:
“You call me ‘Ling Zhuo’?”
Li Yishuang repeated: “Let my junior sister go.”
“And what if I don’t?”
Accompanying those words was a sharp ‘shing’. Cold light overflowed as Ling Zhuo looked at the Qianshuang Sword already drawn in her hand. Understanding everything in an instant, she asked:
“What orders did Feng Yu give? Did she command you to kill me?”
Li Yishuang kept her voice level: “If you let Ye Liuxi go now, I will not kill you.”
In just a few sentences, every word revolved around Ye Liuxi. Ling Zhuo smiled bitterly: “Fine. She is your junior sister. In your heart, is she the only junior sister you have now?”
There was no answer. Biting cold sword energy swept forth. Ling Zhuo shifted her stance, skillfully dodging the Qianshuang Sword’s Qi.
“Using your old sword techniques is useless against me.”
Li Yishuang pursed her lips tightly. Her fingertips condensed power as a vast sword Qi surged, forcing Ling Zhuo back a few steps. She then flashed to Ye Liuxi’s side, breaking the Silence Curse.
“Senior Sister, she’s a lunatic. She was hiding in the deserts of the Western Profound Region, transferring the spiritual energy of passing cultivators into dead bodies for her own selfish desires.”
Ling Zhuo looked at the two of them and sneered: “If you weren’t a disciple of the Xuanqing Sect, do you think you’d still be alive?”
Li Yishuang looked at her excessively youthful face and asked: “What happened to your appearance?”
Perhaps to soothe Ye Liuxi’s emotions, Ling Zhuo watched as Li Yishuang took the hand of the person beside her.
They looked intimately close, truly a picture of deep sisterly affection. Ling Zhuo’s face darkened, cold rain snaking down her cheeks. She said harshly:
“You might as well go back and tell Feng Yu: I have appeared this time specifically to kill her with my own hands.”
Ye Liuxi instinctively retorted: “Our Master is only a few steps away from ascending to immortality. You can’t even get near her, let alone dream of killing her.”
Ling Zhuo ignored her words, staring only at Li Yishuang. “Wait and see.” Leaving those words, she vanished into the curtain of rain.
Seeing this, Li Yishuang retracted her hand and gave a calm command: “Go back to the Xuanqing Sect first. Master is very worried about you.”
Hearing the latter half of the sentence, Ye Liuxi had no room for argument, asking worriedly: “Senior Sister, are you not coming back?”
Li Yishuang didn’t answer. Instead, she looked at the nearby Zhu Shengxi.
“Just now, were you able to see clearly? Was the yin energy on Ling Zhuo the same as what Xie Funing refined?”
