After Cutting Off Love And Emotions, I Was Pestered By The Demon Sect’s Enchantress - Chapter 15
Jiyu City (I)
“Until we meet again.” Yue Xu and Zhinuo stood at the door, bidding the two of them farewell.
Zhu Shengxi summoned the Chenque Sword. Pressing her two fingers together, the sword gradually rose. She leapt onto the blade and looked at A-Xu, saying, “Get on.”
A-Xu leapt lightly and stood steadily upon the sword. “Don’t you have a second celestial boat?”
“It is not far from Jiyu City; we can reach it by flying on the sword.”
This was effectively a non-answer to the question.
A-Xu thought for a moment and asked, “What about that shattered celestial boat?”
Controlling the sword, Zhu Shengxi replied in a cool voice, “It is already shattered. What else can be done?”
“You said before that the boat belonged to someone else and wouldn’t let me touch anything on it. Seeing how much you valued it, I almost thought it was a gift from a sweetheart of yours, Daoist Zhu.”
Zhu Shengxi couldn’t help but retort, “I have no sweetheart. Do not speak nonsense.”
“Then…”
“Speak another word and I will throw you down,” Zhu Shengxi interrupted her coldly.
A-Xu gave a light snort and finally fell silent, turning instead to look at the surrounding scenery.
The undulating mountain ranges below receded rapidly behind them. After watching for a while, A-Xu spoke up: “Do you think it is good to live in seclusion in the mountains like Miss Zhinuo?”
Zhu Shengxi was focusing on steering the sword. She didn’t say whether it was good or bad, only remarking, “It varies from person to person.”
A-Xu murmured to herself, “I think it’s very good. Not being caught up in disputes and schemes—free and easy.”
Hearing this, Zhu Shengxi glanced at A-Xu, looking thoughtful.
After about half a day, the city gates of Jiyu City finally came into view. Zhu Shengxi found a grove of trees, and the two of them landed within the woods.
Flying on the sword for so long had consumed a significant amount of spiritual energy. Observing her complexion, A-Xu took out a Spirit-Gathering Pill and handed it to her.
Zhu Shengxi did not refuse; she took it and swallowed it, saying softly, “Thank you.”
Seeing her rare lack of hesitation, A-Xu smiled. “What, aren’t you afraid I’m giving you poison?”
Zhu Shengxi glanced at her and began walking forward. “I still recognize a Spirit-Gathering Pill.”
A-Xu caught up and walked side-by-side with her. “I’ve noticed you never wait for others; you always just walk off on your own.”
Is that so? It seems it really is, Zhu Shengxi thought to herself, but her mouth said, “It is because you are too slow.”
A-Xu curled her lip, then heard her ask, “Which city in the Eastern profound region is your home?”
Is she that eager to get rid of me? A-Xu let out a “tsk” in her mind. Suddenly thinking of something, she said leisurely, “What a coincidence, it’s right here in Jiyu City.”
In Jiyu City?
Then why did this person have no reaction when it was mentioned before?
Zhu Shengxi looked at her, a flash of suspicion in her eyes, though her face remained extremely calm. She said tonelessly, “Since that is the case, Miss A-Xu should head home.”
A-Xu ignored these words. “Is Daoist Zhu going to continue searching for the Jade Remnant? I am very familiar with Jiyu City; I can lend you a hand.”
Zhu Shengxi remained unmoved. “I will not stay here long. I am only stopping in Jiyu City temporarily to rest. Besides, perhaps the Jade Remnant isn’t even here.”
“Alright then. Can you walk me home?”
Zhu Shengxi: “…”
What kind of strange request was this?
Seeing her remain silent, A-Xu knew it was a refusal and sighed, “Then let me show you around.”
Having said that, she didn’t wait for Zhu Shengxi’s consent and walked straight ahead. Zhu Shengxi felt somewhat helpless but lifted her feet to follow.
The two soon entered the city. The streets were lined with numerous shops and stalls. Whenever she saw something novel, A-Xu would pull on her sleeve to make her look.
Several times Zhu Shengxi wanted to call a halt, but catching a glimpse of the smile in the other’s eyes, the words died in her throat.
They walked and stopped along the way until, finally, they passed the market stalls. A-Xu led her through several small alleys and eventually stopped in front of a house.
Zhu Shengxi looked at her, puzzled. “This place is…?”
A-Xu pushed open the heavy wooden door. A cloud of accumulated dust billowed out. She coughed a few times and said, “This is my home.”
Her home was really here? Zhu Shengxi walked in with her. The house wasn’t large; inside there was only a bed and a wooden table. The floor was covered in dust, looking as though no one had lived there for a long time.
Furthermore, it was obvious the house was meant for only one person.
When A-Xu had said her home was in the Eastern profound region, Zhu Shengxi had naturally assumed she lived with relatives. Now, it seemed that wasn’t the case.
“Do you not live with your family?”
At the mention of the word “family” again, A-Xu’s face darkened slightly. “Have you forgotten? I told you, they avoid me like the plague, so I left them long ago.”
“I’ve been wandering for these past years and don’t return here often, which is why there is so much dust,” A-Xu explained briefly.
After a moment of silence, Zhu Shengxi’s tone turned cold. “You previously said you feared Ling Zhuo would seek revenge and that going home would involve your family. Now you say you haven’t lived with them for a long time. You are full of lies; what exactly are your intentions?”
Hearing this, A-Xu defended herself in a low voice: “I said those things before because I was afraid of Ling Zhuo’s revenge. If I stayed with you and she really came for me, there would be a way to strike back. That’s why I lied to you.”
Zhu Shengxi knitted her brows and looked away from A-Xu.
This person’s skill at lying was consummate; she simply couldn’t distinguish which of A-Xu’s words were true and which were false.
Seeing that her mood was off, A-Xu immediately promised: “I will absolutely never lie to you again.”
Zhu Shengxi glanced at her earnest expression, lowered her eyes, and pondered, still saying nothing.
Seeing this, A-Xu said softly, “Really, believe me.” Her expression was sincere, her tone carrying a hint of entreaty.
Zhu Shengxi looked at A-Xu again, but said instead, “You have reached your home. Let us part ways here.” After speaking, she turned to leave, not seeing A-Xu’s eyes turn cold.
“Does Daoist Zhu still remember the secret technique to dispel the Cold Poison?”
Her tone was somewhat off. Zhu Shengxi stopped in her tracks, a bad premonition rising in her heart.
“I remember. What of it?”
A-Xu said leisurely, “There is one thing I forgot to tell you. That secret technique must be performed three times to completely dispel the Cold Poison. Once started, it cannot be stopped.”
Hearing this, Zhu Shengxi understood something instantly. She turned around and looked at her coldly.
A-Xu had already anticipated her reaction, the corners of her lips curling up slightly. “If you leave now and do not receive the next two treatments, the Cold Poison will spread throughout your entire body within a month. At that time, even if your healer senior sister comes, she will be powerless.”
“Ah, what a pity. I’m afraid we cannot part ways just yet.”
It turned out it wasn’t because of some promise that she helped suppress the Cold Poison at all. It was likely this person had been prepared all along, waiting for this moment to use it as a threat.
And to think she had felt guilty and soft-hearted toward her over the past few days because of it.
Zhu Shengxi pursed her lips tightly and asked in a freezing voice, “Just what is your purpose in staying by my side?”
A-Xu ignored her icy gaze and lowered her head slightly, as if thinking for a moment.
After a long pause, she looked up at the person before her and smiled. “You don’t need to worry so much. I just want to take one thing from you.”
Zhu Shengxi frowned. “What thing?”
“Once the Cold Poison is dispelled, you will know.”
