- Chapter 28 - Bubbles, Lace, and Bows
Outside the window, light snow was falling, but within Zhu Songning’s world inside the house, a torrential rain was pouring, soaking her through and through.
The strands of hair on her forehead were matted to her face with sweat, and a look of uncharacteristic disorientation appeared in her pale eyes.
It was pitch black under the covers, yet before her eyes, a white figure seemed to be there, pulling her hand through the downpour, preventing her from losing her way amidst the turbulent waves.
The next day.
The weather was excellent, sunny and bright.
When Zhu Songning opened her eyes, she was still tightly hugging the rabbit plushie in her arms.
After the previous night’s events, a feeling of guilt lingered within her. Just as she gathered the psychological readiness to lift the covers and get out of bed, she heard a familiar, clear and cool voice.
“For three days, the great snow fell, and no sound of humans or birds was heard on the lake… Heaven and clouds and mountains and water, one vast expanse of white…”
Zhu Songning: “?”
Looking at Shen Qingyu, who stood independently by the window, reading aloud from a book, Zhu Songning wondered if she was still asleep.
She quietly closed her room door again, waited a few seconds, and then reopened it with a blank expression.
Shen Qingyu by the window had not vanished.
Damn it.
Had Shen Qingyu gone mad?
Why was she in her room reading a book first thing in the morning?
Trying to act like a cultured literary woman?
Nobody told her entering the entertainment industry required passing a cultural studies exam.
“You’re awake?”
The white-haired beauty heard her footsteps, put down the book, and turned her head.
Today she was wearing an off-the-shoulder pink sweater, the vibrant color significantly tempering her usual cold, aloof demeanor. Her white hair cascaded over her snowy shoulders, surprisingly revealing a hint of tenderness.
Zhu Songning looked at the ancient poem in her hand and raised an eyebrow: “Is this…?”
“Oh, this.”
Shen Qingyu first glanced down at the book in her hands, then lifted her head, showing Zhu Songning her most flattering left profile, her eyes twinkling with a smile as she looked at her.
“I have always maintained a habit of morning reading, but due to being busy with work, I neglected my cultural cultivation for a period. I only recently decided to pick it back up.”
She spoke a long sentence without missing a beat, thinking of the whole stack of books her manager had bought for her, and for a moment, it felt like she was back in university, racking her brain over her graduation thesis in the library.
Taking a slight breath, she continued:
“Perhaps, would you like to discuss Eileen Chang’s desolate elegance, Jian Zhen’s pure ethereal quality, or maybe Svetlana Alexievich, who pioneered ‘oral history literature’?”
Zhu Songning: “……….”
The expression on her face nearly broke.
She deeply regretted her momentary, mistaken feeling that Shen Qingyu was gentle.
It was her fault.
She had only thought that the domestic entertainment industry didn’t care about academic qualifications, but apparently, lesbians did.
Ha-ha.
With a wooden face, she selectively ignored Shen Qingyu’s challenge for a morning literary discussion and turned to enter the bathroom to wash up.
Behind her, the Omega followed her footsteps like a mimicking apprentice, close behind.
Zhu Songning moved her left foot to walk to the right, and Shen Qingyu copied her manner of walking. In the mirror, their steps were perfectly synchronized, even the arc of their coattails swaying was the same.
Zhu Songning couldn’t help but secretly glance at Shen Qingyu several times in the bathroom mirror.
Finally, she couldn’t resist a small curl of her lip.
Boring.
She took a towel, wet her face, and applied facial cleanser. Shen Qingyu, having nothing else to do, wandered around the bathroom.
“Hey—what’s this?”
Zhu Songning, with a face full of bubbles, turned to look at her, and upon seeing the item in Shen Qingyu’s hand, she was utterly shocked.
Ignoring the cleanser still on her face and hands, she lunged at Shen Qingyu.
“You! Don’t touch that!”
But it was too late.
Shen Qingyu looked at Zhu Songning’s intimate garment in her hand, and the distinct water stains on it, a moment of surprise flashing across her face.
Zhu Songning snatched the item away and hid it behind her back.
Her face brushed past Shen Qingyu’s nose, and white foam stained the Omega’s nose tip.
Zhu Songning’s face flushed crimson.
Last night ended so late that she only had time for a simple clean-up. After changing her underwear, she was exhausted and sleepy, so she casually tossed the item into a basin, intending to wash it today.
Who knew that in this short span of one morning, another unexpected complication would arise?
She looked helplessly toward the ceiling.
Shen Qingyu’s expression just now surely meant she had seen it.
She didn’t know how she would be teased now.
Why did she always end up looking so embarrassing in front of her?
Zhu Songning lowered her head, but her eyes sneakily lifted to observe her, and when she saw the tiny white dot on the Omega’s nose, her pupils widened.
So… so cute.
On that delicate and aloof face, the little white dot on the nose was like a finishing touch, making the face look unusually lively.
It had been tainted by her foam.
That little bit of internal discomfort and distance seemed to have been melted away by this spot of foam.
“Don’t move!”
Shen Qingyu noticed her unusual demeanor. “Why are you holding back a laugh? Do I look funny?”
The mirror was blocked by Zhu Songning’s tall body, so she couldn’t see.
Zhu Songning took out her phone from her pocket, opened the front-facing camera, and aimed it at her.
Shen Qingyu looked through her phone—
She saw in the camera screen that Zhu Songning’s facial cleanser had somehow gotten onto her nose tip.
And next to the “little white-nosed fish” was the Alpha’s face, covered in white foam, grinning foolishly without a care.
“Click!”
The moment was captured.
Zhu Songning’s finger pressed the shutter button, and the loud sound made the faint smile on Shen Qingyu’s face vanish instantly.
“Delete it quickly! It’s hideous!”
Shen Qingyu thrashed in Zhu Songning’s arms, reaching out to grab Zhu Songning’s phone.
“I’m a female celebrity! Do I not have any dignity, Zhu Songning—”
She was not only bare-faced, but her face had also been messed up by Zhu Songning.
Compared to her usual glamorous, heavily made-up appearance in front of the public, she certainly didn’t look good.
“I think it’s fine?”
Zhu Songning held the phone high, keeping it out of Shen Qingyu’s reach, and tilted her head to admire her self-proclaimed perfect candid shot.
“Look, aren’t you quite adorable?”
Adorable?
Shen Qingyu gasped in disbelief.
She was being called “adorable” by a kid quite a bit younger than herself?
A strange sense of absurdity welled up in her heart.
“Fine—”
Shen Qingyu was so angry she laughed.
“You think it’s adorable, do you? Then send me the photo. I’ll immediately set it as my phone wallpaper and walk around outside for a day. I guarantee that by the end of the day, the whole world will know I’m adorable, and the girl next to my wallpaper is even more adorable.”
“I will make your name famous across the entire network within 24 hours, and our relationship will instantly become the hot topic of discussion for every gossip account.”
“From now on, whenever anyone mentions your name, the first person they think of will be me.”
—Their names would be imprinted on various gossip news articles, inseparable.
As a public figure, her phone wallpaper was also something fans loved to analyze.
Therefore, her wallpaper was always a landscape picture or her own beautiful photos, never anyone else.
If Zhu Songning could truly ascend to that position, it would indeed be a significant event.
While Zhu Songning was stunned and frozen by her words, Shen Qingyu launched a sudden attack on her phone.
Fortunately, Zhu Songning’s reaction was fast enough to prevent her from succeeding.
Having failed the strike, Shen Qingyu did not show disappointment.
The Omega slowly backed away in her line of sight, retreating until a safe distance was established between them, then smiled and held up the object she had snatched.
Only then did Zhu Songning realize that while her phone had been successfully protected, the item in the other hand, hidden behind her back, had been lost.
Shit.
She cursed under her breath.
How could Shen Qingyu use a feint while she wasn’t paying attention?
“Oh.” The Omega shook the item in her hand. “What is this?”
“It’s pink, and it has lace and bow trims.”
“My Ningning is very adorable too.”
