After Breaking Up with the Stoic CEO - Chapter 40
Chapter 40: Do You Like the Good-Looking Ones?
Thinking that Li Jin had to go on a business trip tomorrow, Lu Wu had intended to stop at a reasonable point, but once her emotions surged, she couldn’t care about anything else.
By the time they finished, the sky was already faintly brightening. Li Jin was exhausted, closing her eyes to regain her strength. Lu Wu, on the other hand, snuggled in the quilt and watched her, tracing her features with her eyes, feeling her chest warm as if filled with something precious.
As time drifted by, Li Jin grew uneasy under the gaze and opened her eyes to meet Lu Wu’s.
“Haven’t seen enough yet?”
It was still that cool voice, but so soon after the act, it was slightly raspy, carrying a lingering trace of allure. It was soft, like a gentle scratch against the heart.
The tips of Lu Wu’s ears felt a tingling numbness, and she smiled unconsciously. She replied, “I could never see enough.”
Li Jin lazily closed her eyelids again, delivering a verdict on that sentence. “Smooth-talker.”
Lu Wu protested in a small voice. “I’m speaking from the heart.”
She wanted to sincerely confess her feelings further, but unfortunately, the clock began to announce the time, breaking the perfect atmosphere.
“It is now 6:00 AM. Today’s weather is clear turning to cloudy. UV intensity is high; it is suggested to carry a sunshade for travel…”
Lu Wu was somewhat surprised. “It’s already six o’clock?”
Li Jin brought up the previous matter. “I recall someone blaming me last night for not giving advance notice about my trip, yet once she knew, she ended up pestering me the entire night. I still have to catch the earliest flight; looking at it this way, it’s better not to say anything.”
Lu Wu let out an “ah,” buried her head in the crook of the other’s neck, and explained in a muffled voice. “It won’t happen like this next time. I originally planned to stop early, but when you looked at me with those eyes, my self-control was a bit… in short supply.”
Li Jin raised an eyebrow, her tone meaningful. “You’re blaming me?”
Lu Wu shook her head hurriedly. “I blame myself. But you’re also at fault, you’re too beautiful.”
Her voice grew smaller toward the end; it was clear she felt a bit guilty.
Li Jin looked thoughtful and asked, “Do you like the good-looking ones?”
“No.” Lu Wu lifted her head to look at her, giving two silly giggles. “I like you.”
This person was in the habit of keeping the word “like” on her lips. Li Jin tilted her head, neither confirming nor denying.
Lu Wu asked again, “What time is the flight?”
Li Jin answered flatly, “Nine o’clock.”
Lu Wu paused for a few seconds, an inexplicable sense of reluctance at their impending separation welling up. “Then I’ll see you off.”
Li Jin had always kept work and private life strictly separate; letting a bed partner see her off at the airport was naturally a blurring of the rules. She originally intended to refuse, but somehow, looking into those crystal-clear eyes, the two words she meant to say turned into one.
“Mhm.”
“It’s a bit far from here to the airport, about an hour’s drive. We need to leave half an hour for check-in, plus potential delays on the road… What do you want for breakfast? I’ll go make it for you now.”
Lu Wu rambled on as she climbed out of bed. The thin quilt slipped from her shoulder, gradually revealing her delicate, protruding collarbone, her small and exquisite breasts, and then the clearly defined lines of her lower abdomen. Her neck was still branded with the mottled purple and blue marks left from last night’s passion.
Li Jin had always been honest about facing adult physiological needs; she merely treated her repeated encounters with Lu Wu in bed as a form of pastime. She satisfied her own desires, and Lu Wu got what she wanted—straightforward, with nothing else attached. Yet at this moment, as her gaze was drawn along, a heat involuntarily sparked behind her ears, wanting to go further, to see more.
Li Jin paused, cutting off her thoughts, and said something trivial. “I’ll have the driver bring you back.”
Lu Wu turned to look at her with a smile in her eyes. She didn’t say she would take the subway like she did the first time she came to Rongjiang. “Okay, I’ll wait for you to come back. And… if you miss me, remember to call me.”
Li Jin looked away and said nonchalantly, “Work is busy; no time for calls.”
Lu Wu wasn’t angry either. She narrowed her eyes, catching the loophole in the words. “Then send messages.”
Li Jin glanced at her but said nothing. Lu Wu turned around again, lying prone in front of Li Jin, and hooked her finger. Li Jin looked down at her.
This person was nearly 172cm tall and lean, but her overall muscle lines were well-proportioned and healthy. Her hands were the same, slender and bony, with nails trimmed round and clean, showing white against pale pink. They were very beautiful. It was this pair of hands that had been boldly and wantonly pleasing her all night, and now they were hooking into her palm, drawing circles carefully and innocently.
Lu Wu asked, “If I miss you, can I call you?”
Li Jin remained silent for a moment. In the end, she still couldn’t say no and only said, “Up to you.”
Lu Wu was very satisfied. She gave another kiss to her profile and stood up. “Take a nap, I’ll call you once breakfast is ready.”
After seeing off Li Jin, Lu Wu received a message from Tan Xingxue on the way back.
“Do you have time? Want to meet up today?”
Several days had passed since she last saw Tan Xingxue. During that time, the frequency of their chats had decreased significantly compared to before. Lu Wu guessed she was still processing things, so she hadn’t disturbed her. Seeing a message now—she had likely come to terms with it.
Lu Wu: “Where should we meet?”
Tan Xingxue: “Ji Youyan and I are both at home, just come over directly.”
Lu Wu: “Okay, I’m coming over now.”
Lu Wu thought for a moment and said to the driver in front, “Could you drop me off at the nearby subway station?”
The driver looked into the rearview mirror. “Is there something you need to handle? You can tell me the destination directly, and I will drive you there.”
Lu Wu wasn’t used to this feeling of being served and said awkwardly, “Just meeting a friend, I won’t waste your time with the extra trip.”
The driver was insistent. “President Li instructed that I must take you to your destination no matter where you are going. This is my duty.”
“Li Jin said that?” Lu Wu was stunned. She unconsciously pursed her lips, inexplicably tasting a hint of sweetness. “Then I’ll trouble you. The address is…”
Since the previous incident wasn’t long ago, Tan Xingxue was worried about Lu Wu being alone and went downstairs early to wait at the entrance of the residential area. It was the heat of the day; even though the morning sun was only halfway up, it made people sweat.
Only one black car drove slowly down the road, but Lu Wu was nowhere to be seen at the subway station across the street. Tan Xingxue couldn’t help but call her.
“Lu Wu, didn’t you say you’d be here in a minute?”
“Didn’t you… say you’d… be here?”
An echo came through the receiver first, followed by a slight click and a rustle, then Lu Wu’s answer. “I’m here.”
Tan Xingxue moved the phone away and looked at the subway station again. “Where? I didn’t see you come out.”
Lu Wu slowly walked out from behind the car and stopped in front of Tan Xingxue, who had an expression like she’d seen a ghost. “I came by car.”
Before Tan Xingxue could speak, someone in formal attire stepped out to open the door. “Miss Lu, I’ll be leaving now. Call me anytime you need.”
Lu Wu nodded. “Okay, thank you.”
The car door closed, and the engine roared. Tan Xingxue stood there, and Lu Wu stood there; for a moment, neither spoke. The car was a standard SUV, entirely black with a low-profile, sleek design—nothing seemingly special. But Tan Xingxue recognized the hood ornament—the little figure with wings.
Even if she were to call a car, Lu Wu wouldn’t bring herself to take a luxury ride, so the owner of the car was obvious. Tan Xingxue had originally worried it was just Lu Wu’s one-sided infatuation, but seeing this, it didn’t seem like a purely one-way street. Sniffing the exhaust fumes, she muttered under her breath.
“That’s more like it.”
Lu Wu asked, “What’s more like it?”
“Nothing.” Tan Xingxue looked at her, struggled for a moment, and then spoke plainly. “I’ve thought about it seriously these past few days. We’re friends, and I should support your feelings. It’s just dating; there’s nothing wrong with two women being together, especially since Li Jin is so outstanding. I apologize for my narrow-mindedness.”
Lu Wu didn’t say much, only smiling. “I wasn’t angry. You don’t need to apologize to me specifically.”
Tan Xingxue leaned in to look closer, a bit suspicious. “You’re really not angry? Your eyes are all red. Don’t tell me you’re too embarrassed to say you were cried out by me?”
Naturally, she hadn’t cried; it was eye strain from staying up all night. Lu Wu was too embarrassed to say, so she replied vaguely, “My eyes are just a bit uncomfortable. Let’s go up. What are we having for lunch?”
Speaking of food, Tan Xingxue’s attention was clearly diverted. “Korean BBQ. I took out the grill that was gathering dust in the kitchen. I prepared a lot of meat and some pineapple to cut the grease.”
Lu Wu followed the conversation naturally. “Is anything missing? I can go buy it now.”
Tan Xingxue waved her hand. “No need, everything is ready. We have beer and drinks too. It’s the weekend; we can get a little tipsy.”
Lu Wu asked casually, “Ji Youyan isn’t working today either? That’s rare.”
Tan Xingxue’s footsteps paused as she recalled the scene of that person deliberately giving her the cold shoulder these past few days. “Not working. That lady is in the kitchen prepping the food right now.”
Lu Wu caught the traces of unprovoked anger in her words and turned to ask, “Did you two have an argument?”
Tan Xingxue sneered. “It’s nothing. Her period probably arrived. Don’t worry about it.”
She said not to worry, but once they reached the dining table, the person caught in the middle turned out to be Lu Wu.
“Help me get a tissue.”
“Help me get a piece of lettuce.”
The dining table was rectangular. Tan Xingxue had short arms and couldn’t reach many dishes even when standing. Despite Ji Youyan sitting right next to her, the errands for help always bypassed her and landed on Lu Wu. Silence permeated the air, but Tan Xingxue, being the type who couldn’t keep her mouth still, looked for things to talk about.
“What stage are you and President Li at now? Are you together? Any arguments or anything? Do you want me to give you some advice?”
Before Lu Wu could answer, the person who had been silent with her head down suddenly spoke up.
“If you don’t understand it yourself, don’t go causing trouble for others.”
Tan Xingxue: “…”
“Ji Youyan, are you looking for a fight—”
Lu Wu hurriedly spoke to divert Tan Xingxue’s attention. “We’re not together yet.”
As expected, Tan Xingxue stopped being angry with Ji Youyan and looked over in shock. “Not together yet—”
She dragged out her tone, her gaze scanning Lu Wu up and down, focusing specifically on the ambiguous marks faintly visible at her neckline. “For real?”
