After Breaking Up with the Stoic CEO - Chapter 31
Chapter 31: President Li’s Little Lover
Seeing Li Yan, Qin Xu immediately brightened up with a smile.
“Sister Yan, isn’t there still a while? Why are you here so early?”
Li Yan tapped her forehead, her tone also carrying a smile: “I guessed you would definitely arrive early.”
The spot where her fingertip touched carried a trace of lingering warmth. Qin Xu’s heart skipped a beat again; she lowered her head to hide the light in her eyes.
Lu Wu also heard Li Yan’s voice and had an idea.
“Sister Yan must know what Li Jin likes. Opportunities are rare; why don’t you help me ask her?”
Qin Xu was shocked: “Me?”
Lu Wu didn’t give her a chance to refuse, ending the conversation in a few words.
“You promised to help me, don’t try to back out.”
“Remember not to tell Sister Yan it was me asking; I plan to give Li Jin a surprise.”
“That’s all for now, waiting for your message~”
Beep—
The call disconnected.
Qin Xu: “……”
Li Yan was completely unaware of the awkward atmosphere and asked curiously, “Was that a call from a friend?”
Qin Xu put down her phone and made up an excuse: “Yeah… they called to ask how my interview preparation is going.”
Li Yan’s eyes crinkled slightly as she comforted her warmly: “Don’t worry too much. Your resume is excellent. As long as you perform steadily, you will definitely pass the interview.”
The Qin family implemented elite education; Qin Xu had participated in many international competitions and cultural exchange activities from a very young age. In terms of experience, she wasn’t worried that her resume wouldn’t be enough to impress an interviewer.
But hearing words of affirmation from Li Yan’s mouth carried a different meaning. The curve of her lips was hard to suppress.
“Thank you, Sister Yan. I’ll work hard.”
Li Yan nodded slightly, brushed a stray hair behind her ear, and opened the menu: “You must be hungry after waiting so long? What would you like to eat?”
Qin Xu shook her head: “I’m not very hungry yet.”
Li Yan was easygoing: “Then let’s order the signature dishes here; it’s hard to go wrong.”
With a few casual strokes, she handed the menu to the waiting server.
Qin Xu pondered for a moment, then braced herself to speak: “Sister Yan… I have a question I want to ask you about President Li.”
Li Yan looked up at her, suddenly feeling a bit interested: “Oh?”
Qin Xu finally sent a message.
“Sister Yan says President Li doesn’t really have anything she likes, the only exception is cats.”
Seeing this message, Lu Wu paused. Li Yan was Li Jin’s family, one of the few people in the world who knew her best. Since she said Li Jin liked cats, this was very likely a solidified fact.
So, the indifferent attitude Li Jin showed yesterday when she saw that little black cat was simply because she was allergic to cat fur?
If that was the case—
A good idea formed in Lu Wu’s mind.
Walking into the Li Group’s office building, employees were scurrying back and forth, and the atmosphere in the air was somewhat tense. Lu Wu walked to the reception desk.
“Hello, I’m looking for Li Jin.”
The Li Group was a well-known investment giant in the industry, possessing great strength and an extremely high ability to foresee risks. New startups they invested in either saw their stock prices soar overnight or their orders double in a very short time. Over time, a saying spread among entrepreneurs: as long as the Li Group took a liking to you, even a pig could fly by riding the favorable wind.
But achieving cooperation with the Li Group was not easy; it required strict product potential assessments, meticulous market research, and sufficiently rigorous R&D and iteration planning. Every small and micro-enterprise wanted to gain the Li Group’s favor, but the reality was that most couldn’t even meet the threshold.
Thus, many pretentious people appeared, treating fish eyes as pearls. Their products couldn’t pass the basic value assessment, yet they tried to bypass procedures to speak directly with the highest authority of the Li Group.
Wu Shi had been a receptionist at the Li Group for less than half a year, but she saw many such people every day. Seeing the finely packaged gift bag behind Lu Wu, she naturally categorized her as one of them.
“What time slot is your appointment? I’ll check it for you.”
Lu Wu paused and looked down at her chat interface.
“I’ll arrive in about ten minutes, can I go directly up?”
The other party hadn’t replied. Seeing Lu Wu’s look of difficulty, Wu Shi understood.
“Meeting President Li requires a prior appointment. If there’s no appointment, I can’t let you through.”
Lu Wu remembered what Li Jin had said this morning and spoke tentatively: “I don’t have an appointment, but she said I could wait for her in the reception room.”
Wu Shi didn’t deny that Lu Wu was very good-looking, but she was in her early twenties at most, with a very young face and wearing clothes that weren’t luxury brands; how could she truly know President Li?
She frowned: “If you really have important business to discuss, you can contact President Li’s assistant via email.”
This reminded Lu Wu that she had the phone number of Li Jin’s assistant.
“Wait a second.”
Lu Wu turned and walked a short distance away, dialing Du Lin’s number.
Beep.
The call connected.
“Hello, Li Group President’s Office, this is Du Lin.”
Du Lin didn’t even have the focus to look at the caller ID on the screen. She handed documents to a deputy with one hand while her eyes remained fixed on the computer screen, confirming at top speed that the presentation files for the meeting were clear and correct.
Until a polite sentence came from the other side—
“Hello, Assistant Du, I’m Lu Wu. I’m currently at the first-floor reception. Can you help me make a temporary appointment to see Li Jin?”
President Li had already told her Lu Wu would be coming. As an assistant, Du Lin’s responsibility was to pick her up respectfully. But now, the person her boss wanted to see was already downstairs and had to cautiously call for a “temporary appointment.” This was a Waterloo in her professional career, bar none.
Du Lin snapped out of her dizzying busyness and couldn’t help but gasp. She checked her watch; it was twenty minutes before two o’clock. It seemed the guest was early.
She immediately stood up: “Please wait where you are, I’ll be down immediately.”
“No need to trouble yourself, I…”
Just as Lu Wu was about to politely decline, the phone had already hung up. Unable to stand still yet unable to sit, she stayed where she was, looking at the receptionist. She held up her phone and gave an awkward smile: “I’m waiting for someone.”
Lu Wu hadn’t intentionally muffled her voice while on the phone, so Wu Shi naturally heard the words “Assistant Du.” Every employee within the Li Group knew that the only one who could be called “Assistant Du” throughout the company was Du Lin from the President’s Office.
Could it be… the person in front of her really knew President Li?
She was still a bit hesitant but pointed to the waiting area in the middle of the hall.
“There are sofas over there; you can sit for a while.”
Lu Wu sensed her kindness and nodded slightly: “Thank you.”
She didn’t wait long before Du Lin stepped out of the elevator in high heels, wearing a streamlined and capable professional outfit, heading straight for the waiting area.
“Miss Lu, sorry for the wait.”
Lu Wu rose politely: “Assistant Du, thank you for making the trip.”
Du Lin shook her head: “Please don’t say that. President Li specifically instructed me to receive you well. Failing to do what President Li arranged is my failure.”
Li Jin had instructed in advance? Lu Wu once again felt the other woman’s thoughtfulness. Just like the first time she arrived at Rongjiang, even though the other person wasn’t home, she always arranged everything perfectly. She pursed her lips slightly, a faint smile on her face.
“…Is Li Jin busy?”
Du Lin answered matter-of-factly: “She’s still in a meeting. It should end in about twenty minutes. I’ll take you to the reception room first; please follow me.”
“Okay.”
As the two disappeared into the private elevator, Wu Shi and her colleague at the reception desk were already jaw-dropped. Soon, the company’s anonymous group chat became lively.
“A young girl came to find President Li, and Assistant Du personally came to pick her up.”
“Real or fake?”
“I saw it with my own eyes.”
“I can testify, I saw them at the elevator just now too.”
“Wow wow wow wow~ something’s going on.”
“What’s going on? President Li’s illegitimate child?”
“The person above is killing me with laughter.”
“I guess it might be President Li’s little lover.”
“What lover? Aren’t both sides women? A ‘boy toy’ is more likely.”
“Is the person above not connected to the internet? President Li and Vice President Liu from the Hua Group are old flames; it’s basically an open secret.”

“Speaking of which, didn’t Vice President Liu also come today?”
“Yeah, she’s been here for over an hour, but President Li hasn’t seen her yet.”
“A battlefield?”

Du Lin handed a coffee to Lu Wu: “Miss Lu, your Iced Americano.”
Lu Wu took it and thanked her softly: “Thank you.”
Du Lin’s phone vibrated again. She looked down. “Please wait here for a moment; I have some other matters to handle.”
Lu Wu said considerately: “Alright.”
Du Lin nodded and thoughtfully closed the door as she left. The next second, a woman’s voice rang out.
“Assistant Du, is it convenient to ask how much longer your President Li will be before she can talk with me?”
Du Lin’s tone was respectful: “I’m sorry, Vice President Liu. President Li is still in a meeting. If you are in a real hurry, you can leave first; I will relay your message to her.”
Liu Yuhuan glanced at the person sitting properly on the sofa inside the reception room and smiled without reaching her eyes: “Well, there should be a ‘first come, first served’ rule, shouldn’t there?”
Du Lin answered professionally: “That depends on President Li’s arrangement.”
Liu Yuhuan raised an eyebrow: “Which company’s big shot is in there? Can you introduce them to me?”
Du Lin had no obligation to explain and only said: “This is President Li’s guest; it’s not convenient to reveal their identity.”
Lu Wu didn’t want to pay too much attention to others’ conversations, but since she was already involved, she turned her attention over. The wall of the reception room was a glass front, so she could clearly see the woman standing opposite Du Lin.
A white off-the-shoulder bodycon mini dress with lace trim at the neckline perfectly highlighted her figure. Her features were superior, with a hint of allure when she smiled and a powerful “my way or the highway” aura when she didn’t.
And at this moment, the other person’s gaze happened to look over, with a clear sense of scrutiny.
