After Breaking Up with the Stoic CEO - Chapter 10
Chapter 10: Is Li Jin Avoiding Her?
A simple touch, the distance between their lips less than a centimeter, noses brushing, a teasing pull and push.
Lu Wu was very close, yet she maintained basic etiquette, refraining from any overly aggressive movements. It wasn’t until Li Jin’s body shifted from rigid to gradually soft, and her breathing moved from tense to steady, that Lu Wu finally closed her eyes and pressed against those cool lips.
It was a tentative taste, a touch and part.
Li Jin’s flavor matched her temperament: as clear and cold as a mountain spring, with a trace of imperceptible sweetness. Looking back, there might have been a hint of tobacco. Mint-flavored. Not at all unpleasant.
Lu Wu leaned her forehead against Li Jin’s, her gaze tracing the curved contour of the other woman’s Cupid’s bow. “Don’t like people younger than you?”
The space was limited and overly intimate; it was difficult for Li Jin to ignore the sweeping view visible when she glanced down. A thin piece of lingerie could barely cover the petite, lovely shapes, but it couldn’t hide the vast majority of the curves.
Lu Wu had a slender frame and fair skin, giving off a delicate, almost weak impression. But in reality, the exquisite waistline and the faintly visible abdominal muscles all proclaimed the youth and vitality of the body’s owner.
Li Jin averted her eyes, her tone as calm as usual. “I don’t like them.”
Lu Wu didn’t believe her. “Just like you said you don’t smoke?”
Li Jin shook her head. “That’s different.”
Lu Wu pouted, her tone tinged with jealousy. “How is it different?”
Li Jin paused, casting a meaningful glance at Lu Wu. “You’re much more well-behaved when you aren’t talking.”
She spoke as if she were facing a disobedient junior.
Lu Wu didn’t want to be the ‘well-behaved’ one. So, while there were many ways to stay silent, she chose the most audacious one.
She leaned into Li Jin’s lips again.
This was no longer a tentative kiss. It was a gentle licking, a flurry of light bites. Then, she pried open the teeth, stirring and provoking.
Amidst the sound of heavy, disordered breathing, she suddenly turned. The person pressed against the sink became Li Jin. Holding the initiative firmly, she pinned the other woman’s hands together, further deepening this intoxicating trance.
Pressed against the hard, cold marble countertop with a naked, hot body clinging to her front, Li Jin’s body seemed to have become much more sensitive. She wasn’t sure why she hadn’t pushed Lu Wu away immediately; instead, she instinctively cooperated, responding to the other’s entanglement and provocation.
Her breath was drowned between their lips, and her limbs gradually went weak. Li Jin couldn’t stand steadily and could only hold onto Lu Wu’s body for support.
The door wasn’t tightly shut. The background music seeped through the crack. It was Harlem Yu’s Can’t Help Falling in Love. The duet version by Qin Xu and Li Yan—standard, with a few off-key notes here and there.
During the bridge, the sound of conversation mixed in.
“Why haven’t those two come out yet?” “Did something happen? Should I go check?”
Li Jin opened her eyes to look at Lu Wu, a silent reminder for her to stop. Lu Wu raised an eyebrow, circled her neck with her arms, and became even more demanding.
A soft hum escaped Li Jin’s nose, and her warning instantly became soft and powerless, losing its usual deterrent effect. The conversation outside was impossible to ignore, making the ambiguous, wet sounds of their kiss in her mind even more audible.
Until someone stood up, and the footsteps drew closer.
Creak.
“Xiao Lu?”
Receiving no response, Qin Xu pushed the door open a bit further. The room was dark, and she could only see two vague shadows. She fumbled at the door for a bit but couldn’t find the switch, asking in confusion, “Are there no lights in here?”
“Voice-activated. They just went out.”
Accompanied by a raspy female voice, the lights flickered on, and everything in sight became clear.
Lu Wu was wearing a black suit jacket. Li Jin stood by the sink, with the white T-shirt tossed casually on the marble countertop. Everything looked normal, yet something felt off. Qin Xu looked at the two of them, unable to catch the fleeting thought in her mind.
“Why were you in here so long?”
Li Jin spoke first: “I’m heading out first.”
She left decisively, not giving Lu Wu a single glance as she brushed past. Qin Xu didn’t dare ask much, waiting until Li Jin was gone before turning to Lu Wu. “What was that about?”
Lu Wu pursed her lips slightly, her eyes curving. “Nothing. Let’s go.”
It was past eleven by the time she got home. Lu Wu showered and went to bed, but she tossed and turned for a long time without feeling sleepy.
When her eyes were open, she thought of Li Jin’s cool and indifferent features; when they were closed, the image of the woman’s eyes tinged with a faint flush automatically appeared in her mind. The room was quiet, so even the sound of the clock’s ticking gradually transformed into the ambiguous sound of tangled breathing.
Lu Wu buried herself in her pillow, trying to stay calm and process everything that had happened.
She had kissed Li Jin. And it wasn’t a light kiss. It was a deep kiss, as if she wanted to rub the other woman into her own body.
Perhaps there was one thing she had to admit: Lu Wu had fallen for Li Jin at first sight, a case of “lust at first encounter.” Her heart had been restless, and now she had simply put her bold thoughts into practice.
The only question was: Li Jin hadn’t refused when she kissed her.
Why? Could it be that Li Jin harbored the same feelings?
If the answer was yes, Lu Wu would probably be too happy to sleep all night. If the answer was no… No matter the possibility, it tugged at her heartstrings, keeping her wide awake.
After a long while, Lu Wu finally gave up the struggle and opened the Weibo app. The trending search had expired and faded from public view, but there were still many real-time comments from Qing He’s fans discussing her “clout-chasing” behavior.
She clicked on the official Weibo account of Feiyan Literature. The latest post was pinned.
“We are honored that @LuWu could participate in the offline book signing event with @TeacherQingHe. The two have many common insights on creative ideas and structural building; we believe they will become good friends. We also hope everyone follows Lu Wu’s work Two Sides. The next sale for the simplified Chinese edition is tentatively set for August 15th. See you then!”
There were only tens of thousands of likes, but hundreds of thousands of shares. The comment section was filtered.
Returning to her personal homepage, her private messages were a uniform wall of insults and attacks. Scrolling up, there seemed to be no end. The only consolation was that there were still many fans offering comfort and encouragement.
Lu Wu randomly opened one.
“Go Lulu, I believe in you!” ID: The Best Lulu in the World.
It was a common nickname among fans, but it inexplicably made her think of Li Jin again.
Li Jin has a daughter… Will her daughter look like her? A miniature version of Li Jin wouldn’t be bad. She would surely be a cute and likable little girl.
The meeting was scheduled for 1 PM at the Li Corporation office building.
Lu Wu arrived half an hour early. When she got there, someone was already waiting for her at the entrance. The person led her through the lobby, up the elevator to the 14th floor, and finally into a lounge.
“Miss Lu, here is your coffee. Please wait here for a moment; the person in charge will be over shortly.”
Lu Wu took the coffee and smiled politely. “Thank you, sorry for the trouble.”
Thud—
The person left, closing the lounge door on their way out. Lu Wu relaxed her tense body and let out a long breath.
That morning, Qin Xu had told her a lot about Li Jin’s past on the phone detailing her academic background and her astonishing achievements at work, naturally mentioning the Li Corporation.
Lu Wu’s knowledge of the Li Corporation was limited; her impression was just that of a well-known domestic financial investment giant involved in many famous enterprises. It wasn’t until she came here in person, faced with a luxurious and grand office building and the serious, professional atmosphere of the busy staff, that she truly gained a concrete perception of this colossus.
And Li Jin she was the one in power behind the Li Corporation. To be able to manage such a company in such an orderly fashion, one could foresee what an outstanding and brilliant woman she must be.
This realization was quite overwhelming. After all, just last night, Lu Wu and Li Jin were kissing by the sink in a private room.
But more importantly, they were about to meet again. This time, to discuss a serious cooperation. Lu Wu looked at the door, already imagining what kind of high-powered outfit Li Jin would be wearing today.
Oh, by the way, the jacket Li Jin lent her yesterday had been sent to the dry cleaners; she needed to find a time to return it once it was ready.
As her mind wandered, a light knock suddenly came from the door.
Lu Wu cleared her throat. “Come in!”
The door opened with a slight creak. A mature woman in professional attire walked in, but—it wasn’t Li Jin.
“Miss Lu… Miss Lu?”
At the repeated calls, Lu Wu finally snapped out of it. “Sorry, what did you just say?”
The woman was clearly professional; even after being ignored, she maintained a polite smile. “It’s alright. I am Du Lin, President Li’s special assistant. We spoke on the phone last time, do you remember?”
Rather than asking if she remembered, it was more accurate to say that because she had been left hanging for several days, Lu Wu’s impression of the assistant was extremely deep. She answered, “I remember.”
Du Lin got straight to the point. “I will be in charge of discussing the cooperation details with you today.”
Lu Wu hesitated. “She… Is President Li not coming?”
Du Lin explained succinctly, “President Li has some private matters to attend to and cannot make it for the time being.”
Lu Wu nodded instinctively. “…Right, I see.”
Du Lin pulled a document from her folder and handed it over. “Regarding the requirements for the customized work, President Li has a few points. This is the material; you can take a look first.”
As the assistant diligently explained, Lu Wu zoned out, not really listening. Only one thought remained in her mind:
Is Li Jin avoiding her?
