- Chapter 3 - "These legs will only ever give you the urge to run away."
He was not like Xing Xiyan, and he certainly wasn’t a heartless tool.
Even having lived two lives, even if this was just a world inside a book, and even if the onlookers were nothing more than soulless NPCs, his deep-rooted sense of shame was enough to lash him until he was raw, leaving him utterly humiliated.
Losing his cool, he kicked frantically against the heavy weight pressing down on him, his voice weakening as he begged for mercy: “Fk, fk, fk… You lunatic! I was joking! It was a joke! Don’t you dare do anything!”
Beneath his messy bangs, his peach-blossom eyes were misted with a thin veil of moisture—stubborn and unwilling, a sharp contrast to his submissive tone.
Xing Xiyan did not miss the indignation in Gao Chang’s eyes. Instead, he reached out and pinched his chin. “Why did you run away?”
That short question was like a stray spark falling onto an oil field. In an instant, it ignited the months of grievance suppressed in Gao Chang’s heart, erupting in a world-shattering roar.
He swallowed the urge to spit in the man’s face and shook his hands, flaunting the thick metal chains wrapped around his wrists. He stopped pretending to be compliant.
“You have the nerve to ask why… You tell me why! You fking locked me up so tight I couldn’t move. If I didn’t run, did you expect me to happily come crawling back to be your pet?!”
Xing Xiyan’s fingers, clamped around his jaw, trembled slightly before tightening with even more force.
He frowned and remained silent for a long time. When he finally spoke, his tone was indifferent. “You weren’t being good. This was the only way to keep you.”
Gao Chang’s scalp went numb. He screamed in a breakdown, “How many times do I have to say it? We’ve broken up!! Can’t you just let me go?!”
He sucked in a cold breath, his voice nearly pleading: “Let me go, I’m begging you.”
He truly regretted not having his eyes wide open back then to recognize Xing Xiyan’s true colors sooner. If he had known the man was a psychopath, he would have preferred to rot away doing nothing rather than have even a cent’s worth of connection with him.
He would have stayed as far away as possible.
Unfortunately, the Alpha, whose observational skills were always razor-sharp, had already seen through his insincerity.
“You are mine. You belong only to me.”
Xing Xiyan shook his head. His thick, straight lashes fluttered, and a deep darkness settled in the depths of his pale brown eyes.
Gao Chang’s unilateral decision to break up had ended in failure once again.
“Get fked!!”
Gao Chang caught a gap when Xing Xiyan lowered his guard. He swung his uninjured right hand, using the thickest part of the chains, and slammed them heavily against the Alpha’s exquisitely sculpted cheek. He threw every ounce of strength into kicking away the restraints surrounding him.
He shouldn’t have tried to reason with a madman!
Gao Chang had only crawled a short distance, and before the weight in his heart could even begin to lift, his ankle was seized by a hand with slender, well-proportioned fingers.
An irresistible grip held him firm, dragging him back to his original position.
That hand traced the well-defined lines of his calf, feeling the firm warmth beneath the palm with a hint of lingering attachment an almost nostalgic reluctance.
“These legs… will only ever give you the urge to run away.”
Xing Xiyan murmured softly, like a devil’s whisper.
Even as someone who was usually thick-skinned and careless, Gao Chang felt something was terribly wrong the moment those words left Xing Xiyan’s mouth.
An instinctive sense of alarm made his eyes fly open. He stared back at the Alpha behind him with pure wariness. “What are you… talking about…”
In the next instant, a sharp, sickening crack of bone answered his question.
It hurts!
An overwhelming wave of agony shot up from his calf directly to his pain receptors, crashing through his consciousness like a violent storm.
“My leg! AAAAAHHH—!”
Gnawed by the excruciating pain, Gao Chang’s body convulsed. The blood drained from his face, and his eyes instantly became bloodshot. His Adam’s apple bobbed rapidly as he let out a series of hoarse, agonizing wails.
At this moment, the Alpha remained silent with a dark expression. Held firmly in his hand was the very wrench he had snatched from Gao Chang earlier.
A thick, sweet-smelling red was splattered across the silver metal surface, winding its way down the edges in a startlingly vivid trail.
“I truly regret… ever laying eyes on you…”
A moment before he fell unconscious, Gao Chang bit his lower lip hard and glared up at him, the hatred seething through his teeth as intense as the physical pain.
Xing Xiyan’s eyes flickered. He picked up the unconscious youth from the ground. A profound sense of helplessness flashed across his beautiful, refined face, though it vanished in a heartbeat.
Ten minutes ago, the pheromones he had intentionally suppressed poured out, covering everything within a two-hundred-meter radius. The onlookers, unable to withstand the high-level pressure in the air, collapsed to the ground one after another, falling into brief states of shock.
