- Chapter 24 - Take Off Your Shirt. Mysterious Guests, Airport Siege
Outside the police station, the night was deep.
Xu Zilang finished the formalities with the lawyer. He glanced at the dejected figure sitting alone on the metal bench before stepping out of the main gates.
“Brother, it’s all handled.”
Xu Ziming was leaning against a sedan not far away, a cigarette held between his fingers. His expression was indistinguishable through the haze of smoke.
“You should have come later,” Xu Ziming said, taking a deep drag and exhaling slowly. His tone was devoid of emotion. “It would have been better to let him suffer a bit more to improve his memory.”
He Yuchen walked out from inside. His hair was disheveled, and he radiated an indescribable aura of violence. His lips moved slightly as he whispered, “Thanks.”
The He family driver had arrived early. Bowing slightly, he opened the car door and nodded toward the two young masters of the Xu family.
“Young Master, the Master and Madam are waiting for you.”
The moment He Yuchen stepped into the He Mansion, a torrent of reprimands crashed down upon him.
“You worthless thing! Get over here!”
Father He’s face was ashen with rage. “You actually went to jail for a Beta who can’t even be shown in public!”
Mother He reached out to tug at Father He’s sleeve, signaling He Yuchen with her eyes to hurry upstairs.
Defying his usual behavior, He Yuchen interrupted his father. “I can’t let go of Qiu Ye.”
“I can give up everything, as long as he comes back to me.”
Father He had a volatile temper that ignited instantly. He immediately yanked off his belt to strike his disobedient son, roaring, “He’s already married, and you still want to force your way in?!”
“Are you determined to throw away every last bit of the He family’s dignity before you stop?!”
Only through Mother He’s repeated intervention did He Yuchen escape that beating.
Bang—
He slammed his bedroom door shut and slid down against the cold wood. He pulled out his phone and dialed a number.
“Use every resource to investigate Lu Mingchuan.”
“I want to know exactly what is going on between him and Qiu Ye. Don’t come back to me until you have the truth.”
Low clouds hung heavy as the Huanhe Building stood like a monument, its glass curtain walls reflecting the murky light of the sky.
The staff in the CEO’s office had been working with their heads down, but seeing Liu Mian walk into President He’s office, they couldn’t help but start whispering.
“I told you, an Alpha will always end up with an Omega. It’s a physical instinct you just can’t resist.”
“Looking at his posturing, does he really think he’s the future lady of the house?”
“I heard President He has been having a lot of friction with his family lately because of Liu Mian. He hasn’t gone home for dinner in a long time.”
“Sigh, it looks like Secretary Qiu really isn’t coming back.”
The faint sounds of gossip drifted into Liu Mian’s ears.
He tilted his chin up, the corners of his mouth curling into an irrepressible arc, as if he could already see himself successfully ascending into high society.
“Young Master He, you called for me?” Liu Mian’s voice was naturally soft, but now it was so sweet it practically dripped.
He Yuchen looked up. His face was still somewhat pale, but his gaze was startlingly sharp. He gestured with his chin toward the chair opposite him. “Sit.”
He took a document out of a drawer and pushed it toward Liu Mian. His movements were crisp and efficient, devoid of any affection.
“Read this first. If you agree, sign it.”
Confused, Liu Mian picked up the file and flipped to the first page.
“Your pheromones have a good compatibility with mine,” He Yuchen’s voice was calm and flat. He reached up to touch the therapeutic patch on the back of his neck.
“For the coming period, I need you to periodically release soothing pheromones for me.”
He paused, pointing to a clause in the contract. “In return, I will establish an independent studio for you, equipped with the best team and resources. I will put everything into promoting you.”
The terms offered were so enticing that Liu Mian felt as though he had hit the jackpot.
“Additionally, I need you to participate in the recording of Travel Diary of Love as my partner.”
Wasn’t that the marriage variety show Qiu Ye and Lu Mingchuan were on?
Liu Mian frowned slightly but didn’t ask further questions. He picked up the pen and briskly signed his name at the end of the contract.
A week had passed since the original scheduled recording date.
The suitcases had gone from empty to full, then full to empty again.
Ji Bing finally received news from the production team. She turned to the two of them and said, “I’ve booked the flight for tomorrow morning. I sent the itinerary to Xiao Bei; he’ll pick you up.”
“However, the production team has made a temporary adjustment to the cast. They’ve added a pair of special guests.”
Lu Mingchuan gave a faint “Mm” and asked, “Which two?”
“The station is keeping a tight lid on it. We don’t know who they are yet,” Ji Bing replied after a moment of silence. “They said it’s a secret until recording starts. I asked Director Lai; I suspect Mingzhu TV forced them in at the last minute.”
Qiu Ye looked up, a flicker of doubt crossing his brow. Adding guests at the last minute without revealing their identities made him feel a slight sense of unease.
The two arrived at the airport early, but the usually clear VIP passage was swamped with people, blocked to the point of being impassable.
Their itinerary had been leaked.
Xiao Bei urgently contacted security, and airport staff were deployed to maintain order.
Qiu Ye and Lu Mingchuan were practically shoved through the crowd. A walk that should have taken minutes was dragged out for half an hour.
Screams, shouts, and the relentless clicking of camera shutters intertwined.
“Qiu Ye, stay close to me.”
Lu Mingchuan’s deep voice sounded in his ear. He reached out to pull Qiu Ye by the shoulder, shielding him halfway in his embrace.
The Alpha’s tall frame acted as a barrier, sealing out the surging crowd.
Security personnel fought to maintain order, carving out a narrow path.
“This Beta doesn’t deserve him! Get out!”
“Illegitimate son of the Qiu family! Vixen!”
Qiu Ye took a deep breath. People’s phones were extremely close to him, shoved in his face at incredibly rude angles.
“Stay away from him!”
Piercing insults flew from all directions, nearly drowning Qiu Ye out.
Suddenly, a plastic bottle filled two-thirds with water was hurled from the back of the crowd. It tore through the air, aimed straight for his face.
“Watch out!”
In that split second, Lu Mingchuan’s reaction was terrifyingly fast. The arm holding Qiu Ye tightened instantly as he jerked his body around to block the impact.
Thud!
A dull impact echoed as the water bottle slammed hard into Lu Mingchuan’s broad back.
The water burst open, soaking his dark coat.
Qiu Ye looked up slightly, seeing Lu Mingchuan’s clenched jawline and hearing his own heart beating like a drum.
“Qiu Ye, are you okay?”
Qiu Ye shook his head, instinctively clutching the fabric at Lu Mingchuan’s waist. He watched as droplets of water trickled down the hem of the coat, falling one by one.
Lu Mingchuan slowly turned around, keeping the unharmed Qiu Ye behind him.
His usually gentle grey eyes were now frozen over, his sharp gaze cutting like a blade.
This was likely the first time Lu Mingchuan had ever shown a “black face” in public. The low-pressure aura radiating from him caused the surrounding noise to fall into a sudden silence.
“Who was it?”
Just three words, but they carried immense weight.
Minutes later, videos of the airport incident swept across the internet.

In the videos, the footage of Lu Mingchuan swiftly turning to protect Qiu Ye with his back was played back in slow motion repeatedly.
Perhaps due to the camera angle, the Alpha’s tall figure completely enveloped his Beta lover, showcasing a stunning size difference.
[My god! That sound was so loud, I felt the pain just watching… That person must be held legally responsible!]
[Who is the one who immediately pulled his bunny wife completely into his arms! Natural instincts in an emergency don’t lie!]
[A person who is usually so calm and composed actually lost his temper in public. Who says AB relationships aren’t great? This is incredible!]
[Sorry, the size difference between these two is so ship-worthy, my brain is automatically generating a lot of R-rated thoughts…]
The plane flew steadily at ten thousand meters, with rolling snow-capped mountains stretching out beneath the cabin window.
Inside the first-class cabin, the lights were dim.
Qiu Ye took out iodine swabs and ointment for bruising from his carry-on emergency medical kit.
“Take off your shirt.”
His voice was very soft, sounding somewhat embarrassed, even though they had done much more intimate things.
“I’ll help you treat the injury on your back.”
Lu Mingchuan complied, unbuttoning his shirt and letting it fall to his waist, revealing his bare torso.
As he turned, a vivid purple bruise was visible on the upper part of his back near the shoulder. It was quite striking, and the edges were even slightly swollen.
Qiu Ye’s heart felt a sharp pang. He gingerly touched the edge of the bruise with his fingertip.
“Does it hurt much?”
“No.”
“We often get injured filming action scenes; this level is nothing.”
Qiu Ye remained silent, his lips pressed together as he carefully disinfected the area with the iodine swab.
When the cool liquid touched his skin, Lu Mingchuan’s back muscles tightened for a moment before he forced himself to relax.
Qiu Ye unscrewed the cap and squeezed out a bit of white ointment.
His movements were extremely gentle. Using his warm fingertips to take an appropriate amount of cream, he patiently applied it to the bruise, bit by bit.
A cool herbal scent diffused through the small space.
“Finished.” Qiu Ye retracted his hand quickly after applying the ointment.
“Not yet,” Lu Mingchuan’s low, husky voice sounded, carrying a hint of inexplicable languor.
He turned around and suddenly leaned in, trapping Qiu Ye between the seat and himself, forming an ambiguous circle of confinement.
Qiu Ye’s nose twitched; he could smell the faint scent of cedar from the other man, mixed with the slightly bitter aroma of the ointment.
Likely due to his professional requirements, Lu Mingchuan’s physique was maintained perfectly. The lines of his chest and abdominal muscles were flawless, radiating strong masculine pheromones.
“Right, there’s the front…” Qiu Ye’s throat felt dry; he didn’t dare look the other man in the eye.
“Sorry for the trouble,” Lu Mingchuan’s deep voice rose slightly at the end, like a feather brushing against the heart.
Clearly, he could have applied the medicine to that spot himself.
Qiu Ye felt that since this person had just protected him, he shouldn’t be too petty about it. He slowly placed his fingers on the bruise on the shoulder.
The skin beneath his fingertips was warm and elastic, rising and falling slightly with his breath.
Qiu Ye instinctively held his breath, speeding up his movements. He only wanted to end this agonizing ordeal as quickly as possible.
Lu Mingchuan’s Adam’s apple rolled slightly. He thought that Qiu Ye probably didn’t realize how much willpower it took for him to stop himself from doing something more.
“Done.” Qiu Ye felt uneasy being stared at. He hurriedly stuffed the medical kit back into his bag and turned away, pretending to look at the sea of clouds outside the window.
Only then did Lu Mingchuan pull the shirt back over his shoulders, unhurriedly fastening the transparent buttons one by one.
After landing, the two didn’t linger at the airport. They immediately boarded the production team’s off-road vehicle and headed toward the Lagu Grasslands.
Several cameras were installed inside the car, and Qiu Ye’s sitting posture was noticeably more restrained than usual.
“Is it filming already?”
“Mm, but this footage might not necessarily be used.”
Qiu Ye nodded. After a long drive, they finally arrived at the first stop.
Zhou You and Liang Yongning were the first to get out of their car, followed closely by An Yilun and Xin Ye.
Lu Mingchuan and Qiu Ye were in the third vehicle and arrived shortly after.
“Wasn’t there supposed to be another pair of special guests?”
Before the words had even fully left someone’s mouth, a fourth off-road vehicle sped toward them, braking sharply by the roadside.
Liu Mian stepped out of the car, his brown leather boots sinking into the grass.
He slowly looked up, the corners of his lips curling into a perfect arc. His voice carried a calculated intimacy:
“Secretary Qiu, what a coincidence.”
“We meet again.”
