After Being Used As A Substitute By A Scumbag Alpha - Chapter 12
Based on past experience, this temporary mark could last for three to four days. When she left, Dr. Qiao had reminded her that if she wanted to cure her allergy within three months, she had to apply a new mark before the current one faded.
Qin Wei frowned slightly, feeling a bit conflicted.
“Wow, Senior Sister, how do you have this video?” The junior female Omega had a face full of surprise, a layer of crimson flushing her cheeks. She had always thought that when her senior said she was a “fan,” she was just being perfunctory, but she actually even had this video.
“What’s wrong?” Qin Wei was always gentle with people, her conduct beyond reproach.
She quickly closed the chat page, so the other girl didn’t see anything specific.
“This is Zhongli Tang! She’s a legendary figure in the School of Finance. Back when she got into this university, as long as she was there, the classrooms would be packed, every single seat taken. Most people were just there to see her. But by the time I got in, she had already graduated. If only I could see her in person just once… Back then, the school forums were filled with posts about Zhongli Tang, and there are still many even now.” The junior’s face was full of yearning.
Qin Wei only smiled and didn’t speak. A fan knew more about her than she did as her bedmate. However, if the girl knew what Zhongli Tang was like in reality, she would likely find it hard to like her anymore.
“By the way, could I trouble you for a favor?”
The junior immediately forgot her previous excitement and straightened up. “Please tell me, Senior.”
“I have plans to move in the near future. Do you know of any apartments for rent near the school?”
Qin Wei had always been the type to plan ahead. After leaving Dr. Qiao’s, she had the intention to rent a new place. The current house, after all, belonged to Zhongli Tang, it wasn’t appropriate for her to keep living there. She had heard others in the lab talking about renting before, if she found something suitable, she didn’t mind renting it in advance.
“I’m really not sure about that. The undergraduates are about to start school, so housing nearby is quite tight. I’m sharing a place with a friend…”
“It’s okay, I’ll look around when the time comes,” Qin Wei said.
Bai Ling had been paying attention to the movement over there. Hearing this, she didn’t even think before walking over, saying enthusiastically, “I know of some! How about this, Senior, whenever you have time, I’ll accompany you to go take a look.”
Qin Wei nodded, slightly surprised. “No rush. I’ll treat you all to dinner tonight.”
Bai Ling’s heart stirred. “Then I’ll thank you in advance, Senior.”
“You’re welcome. Anyone who’s free can come; you guys decide the place.”
A small cheer broke out in the lab. Most of the time, Qin Wei was too cold and rarely participated in group activities. This was an unexpected surprise.
In the afternoon, Qin Wei went to the Su Corporation’s office.
Their headquarters were located in the city center, occupying a large area with a high volume of people coming and going.
Qin Wei reported her name at the front desk, and soon a Beta came downstairs to lead her to the top floor.
When Qin Wei informed them about the competition, the other party wasn’t angry at all. Instead, they politely handed her a cup of coffee.
“I don’t think this will affect the cooperation between us. After all, as a student, participating in more major competitions can help you gain a lot of insight.”
Qin Wei didn’t move. Her expression was neutral, and she sat up straight, remaining unmoved by his words.
The Beta paused, his tone becoming tactful: “Miss Qin, I’d like to ask… why did you choose the Su Corporation before? Of course, I believe our strength is not to be underestimated, but wouldn’t Gamma be more valuable in terms of medical research?”
Qin Wei didn’t understand why he was asking this. The previous person in charge had only asked professional questions, but she answered nonetheless: “When I was in the orphanage, I received funding and scholarships from the Su Corporation. You can consider this my way of showing gratitude.”
A flash of surprise crossed the Beta’s eyes. “My apologies, I didn’t consider that.”
Qin Wei shook her head and even offered a slight smile. “It’s fine. It was a long time ago. Later, I was adopted by a family.”
She didn’t shy away from discussing this past experience.
“How about this? I’ll go consult with the boss. If she has no objections, shall we leave things as they are for now?”
“Alright.”
The Beta didn’t keep her waiting long. When he returned, he had a thick smile on his face. “Our boss says she wishes you success in your competition. If you have any requirements, we will do our best to meet them.”
Qin Wei stared at the door with a hint of confusion in her gaze, but she could distinguish between sincere words and polite formalities. “I understand. If there is any further news, I will let you know.”
“Um, I’m not sure if you have any plans later? Our boss would like to invite you for a detailed chat.”
Now Qin Wei was truly puzzled, though she didn’t show it. Her voice carried a hint of apology: “I’m sorry, I’ve already made plans with my classmates tonight. I’ll definitely invite her personally another day.”
The Beta hesitated slightly. “No problem, no problem. I’ll see you downstairs.”
After seeing Qin Wei off, the Beta cautiously knocked on the office door. “President Su, she has left.”
Su He nodded, indicating she already knew. In front of her lay Qin Wei’s file. These things weren’t hard to find; the Su Corporation had indeed funded Qin Wei during her time at the orphanage. The “gratitude” explanation held up.
Crucially, she finally remembered why Qin Wei looked familiar. She had been to the Su Corporation before. Back then, Su He only thought she was a somewhat talented student with zero background, so she had merely glanced at her and moved on.
Su He flipped through a few more pages of Qin Wei’s resume, becoming more shocked the more she read. She found it hard to imagine that a second year graduate student could have so many experiences in medical projects. Even if there was someone pushing her from behind, she had to be capable of being pushed in the first place. It was clear that Qin Wei had poured almost all her heart into research.
No…at least a part of it had been given to Zhongli Tang.
It had to be said that Su He was truly envious. She racked her brain: why hadn’t she met a lover who was both talented and single-mindedly devoted to her?
The result of this envy was that Zhongli Tang, who was away in City D for a meeting, received a message, though she didn’t open it immediately.
She was currently facing a group of people from the inspection team. Hidden arrows and overt jabs were everywhere; every sentence was a trap, and they were ten times harder to deal with than Zhong Chengyu.
“As far as I know, Gamma currently has no capability to reconstruct the M6149 experiment. And isn’t President Zhong’s specialty in the entertainment industry?” The leader said with a fake smile.
Zhongli Tang felt like his jaw might drop to the floor at any second and she’d have to catch it for him. “Group Leader, this isn’t about which ‘circle’ one is in. It’s about the final result.”
“I remember your mother said the same thing when she wanted to start M6149. But she died before she could succeed, and she left Gamma in such a mess. If you want to continue her unfinished work, I have no objection. However, we will conduct irregular inspections. I hope President Zhong can cooperate.”
“Of course,” Zhongli Tang didn’t back down an inch before the group. She looked the man directly in the eye, her voice carrying an invisible power. “She was just a madwoman. I am not.”
After much talk, she finally saw off the inspection team. Zhongli Tang rubbed her temples. She had received the news suddenly, and she didn’t need to guess to know it was Zhong Chengyu who had called them. But regardless, this was bound to happen sooner or later, it was expected.
When one is mentally exhausted, they always think of something sweet.
Zhongli Tang picked up her phone. Qin Wei hadn’t sent her anything, likely afraid of disturbing her work or simply busy. A faint, starry smile appeared in the depths of her eyes, how could she be so obedient? But then, she saw Su He’s inexplicable message of “envy.”
Zhongli Tang sent a question mark back.
[Su He: I ran into Qin Wei at the company today. She brought her research and said she’s entering a competition.] [Su He: She’s really talented, and she’s really beautiful.] [Su He: Sigh, if only I were the one who helped her back then. I wouldn’t care about that Ebony pheromone stuff.]
Zhongli Tang heard the teasing in her tone. Now was not the time to care about that, so she knitted her brows: I’ve told you already, don’t even think about Qin Wei.
Su He sent a perfunctory “OK” gesture, but Zhongli Tang felt she didn’t take the words to heart at all.
[Su He: Oh right! You’re on a business trip today, but I just heard she’s going to dinner with other classmates. You’ve barely been gone for forty-eight hours, tsk tsk… this speed… If there’s an Alpha in that team, spending every day together might lead to feelings…]
This time, Zhongli Tang didn’t just frown; she gripped her phone tightly. She knew Qin Wei’s relationship with those classmates was quite distant and definitely didn’t warrant having dinner together. Once or twice was nothing, and Qin Wei loved her so much she couldn’t possibly notice anyone else, so why was she getting angry again?
What a joke. She was just a substitute; as long as the pheromones were right, that was enough.
[Su He: For the sake of our friendship, I’ll go check it out for you.]
After sending this, Su He quickly grabbed her car keys. She would procrastinate on work in every possible way, but she was most proactive when it came to “digging at the foot of a wall” (stealing someone’s partner). Just as she reached the ground floor, she received a message from Zhongli Tang.
[Find them, but don’t disturb them. Send me the address.]
Su He casually tossed her phone onto the passenger seat. Tsk, and here she thought Zhongli Tang could hold out.
